    Chenjeh Kabob
    Lizeth S.

Somehow, I missed posting my review back in March when I visited. This is where my aunt picked for our dinner for 2. The owner was actually our server, which made the whole experience feel more personal in my opinion. You can tell there's real pride in what he does, everything we had was made fresh and came out just right. We ordered the baba ghanoush, salad Shirazi, and the chenjej kabob, and everything was full of flavor. We finished with the baklava for dessert, which was the perfect sweet ending. (my favorite was the birds nest.) The place itself is very clean, organized, and has a fresh, welcoming feel, which makes a big difference to the busy hustle of other establishments. Service was attentive without being overbearing, and overall everything just felt thoughtful and well put together.

We came here on the way to Huntsville and it was amazing! We had a mixed platter with chicken and beef, which was superb, and the hummus was delicious. But the dishes that stole the show for us was the beat salad. There was nothing left on our plates.! This is a must Try.!

This was my first time inside Herands Kitchen. The location is convenient to my place in Garden Oaks. As soon as I stepped inside, the owner was super welcoming. The establishment is super clean and bright. After I placed my order, we spoke a little longer and he showed me around the restaurant. He was very hospitable and it made the experience that much better. I ordered my food to go and had the Beef Koubideh and the Baklava. He even threw in a delicious taziki. When I got home took it out of the box and plated the food. It was very deserving of real silverware and plates. Beautiful food, beautiful restaurant and beautiful customer service. I can't wait to try more dishes. Thank you Herand

The beef skewer was phenomenally juicy and tender. The ikra dip was fabulous. There were no bad dishes, every one was a hit. Masterclass in how to cook meats to their fullest potential. I will be back soon.

General: A Mediterranean restaurant located in a residential community. Good: - Food was great. Chicken was tender and salad was fresh. - Clean atmosphere. - Herand (owner) was there and served us. He made sure we were taken care of. Bad: - I can see how parking can become hectic during busy times. Overall: I will definitely try this place again. Note: - The restaurant is located in a residential neighborhood. I passed by it the first time. - Order at the counter and then take a seat.

I love this place and will definitely return. The first thing I noticed was how clean it was including the bathrooms. It was so nicely decorated and thoughtfully arranged. You order and pay at the counter. The service was excellent. The owner was friendly and so helpful. We really enjoyed the whole vibe of the place. The food was the star of the show, as it should be. We really liked the falafel and the hummus. The pita was delicious and warm. The Greek salad was so refreshing. Our orders were combined family style. We had boneless chicken and beef koobideh over Zereshk rice. It was delightful. I will definitely return. I think it would be great for lunch too.

Happy Birthday to me! Such an amazing choice for my dinner. We were in and out in less than a hour with plenty of food. It was so good. Honestly not sure what my favorite part. The hummus was the perfect smoothness. The beef so tender. The veggies perfect pickle. Honestly before we even left I was texting couples about a double date there in the future. Simple menu but has all the options you need. Honestly really liked that it was served family style. Seemed to be good for groups or date night. Can't wait to see this place grow. Baklava was great too. Not overly sweet.

Really enjoyed trying this new place out. We were served by the owner himself, which was neat. Very fresh and flavorful Mediterranean food. Chill atmosphere so need to dress up. Convenient location. The prices are a little steep for the portion sizes than what we are used to, but it's understandable given the area they're located in. Would definitely be back!

The service was amazing. We were personally served by the owner himself - Herand! The food was amazing and delicious! He is going to do well here in Houston. Herand, thank you for your hospitality! There is no one like you! From, The King

    Fantastic Beef Kubideh Meal !!!
    Michael C.

I made a long trip to this area yesterday and got to try this place, which I just discovered randomly. I ordered the Beef Kubideh Meal for dine-in. The meat was very robust in flavor and very delicious. It was wasn't mushy or filled with fake bread fillers like most Iranian kabob places in Houston seem to have. It tasted like real beef inside n out. It had a nice, unique, aromatic seasoning and charbroiled punch to it that I really appreciated in each bite as well. Most kabobs in Houston don't even have that charbroiled taste, which is essential like smokiness to bbq. The rice was very moist, fresh, fluffy and had little pieces of dried cranberry making it a very good, contrasting side with the meat. The tomatoes were soft, hot, charred and tasty. The cucumber n tomato salad that came with the entree was very good and refreshing like a Persian pico in a way. The service from the owner was very attentive, friendly and caring. I hope to make a trip here twice a year for the awesome food when I can.

Everything was so flavorful here! From the water being infused to the pomegranate and spices in the rice, it was all so tasty. Everything was super fresh. The vegetables were crisp and the meat tender. We may have found our new favorite Mediterranean place in the area!

We enjoyed a glass or two of wine, tossed some darts, and soaked in the relaxed, unpretentious vibe. It is casual in the right way. Anyone who knows me understands I tend to avoid the corporate or heavy investor funded bars. I will…read morereluctantly go to them with friends, but I prefer local joints that I can support. The types of places that combine the atmosphere I'm looking for: 1) has a good selection of beer, preferably local brewers; 2) some wine or craft cocktails for different preferences; 3) has a food menu, permits outside food, or brings in food trucks/pop-ups; 4) a laid back vibe that welcomes families and doesn't have the air of pretentiousness; and lastly; 5) a patio for the small windows of nice weather we have in Houston, or just anytime we want to bring along our four legged friends. I've rarely ran across an outdoor patio that doesn't permit pets and if they do restrict them, it's not worth my business. To that end, this spot ticks a lot of boxes. For those who aren't into the Houston F&B scene as much, Robin Berwick is the creative mind behind this spot. If you've ever visited a caffeine themed coffee and bar in the midtown area, you've been to another long standing establishment of hers. When Berwick's opened roughly over a year ago, I knew this would be a spot I'd enjoy. This spot tows the line well, it's not a dive bar, it's not pretentious, and it has the neighborhood bar feel that welcomes those looking for a great cocktail, a simple beer, or just some good vibes with family, friends, or kids. It feels like if a laid back tiki bar combined with a rustic feel. Living nearby, I think it fits the area. Food & Drink - 4.5* They have burgers, wings, friends, salads. All the food is good and I definitely recommend grabbing a bite during your visit. I particularly like their burgers and always grab a cocktail to go along with it. Service - 4* I've had mixed results, sometimes the attention to detail and service times are really good. Others they can be a little long or the sense their focus is elsewhere. Cost - 4* They used to have solid specials but they have dropped off over time. As an example, there used to be BOGO burgers on Wednesdays from 4-9 pm. Then it was 50% off. That's now only 25% off on Wednesday and only from 4-7 pm. They also had half price margaritas and frozen las brujas. This is now 25% off. Tuesday's was half price French 75s and Sazeracs. That's now 25% off. Thursday's used to be BOGO wings, $3 pacificos, and half price daiquiris. That is also now just 25% off wings, daiquiris, and cabana crushes. Fridays is industry night. They offered 25% off the entire food menu from 10 pm-12 am, now it's only 11 pm-12 am and only for the sandwich. Look, I worked in the industry, I know it's tough. I get that it's really tough for bars in Houston to make the margins work when the burdens seem to continue to rise. Landlords particularly are brutal /rant. It's even tougher when a bar is just getting their feet under them. This neighborhood has seen a lot of great additions in the last couple of years and the specials had us visiting more often, particularly when they ran til 9 pm. We now can't make it as often with the cutoff at 7 pm. Ultimately we were spending more time and money during the past visits, but I'm sure the overall margins were thinner for them. Possibly even some loss leaders to get traffic and business in the door. Now that the specials and times have tightened we elected to diversify to other bars nearby. Ultimately, they're all local and have the vibes I look for. Overall - 4.25* I highly encourage everyone to give this spot a visit if you're nearby. It's a great spot with good drinks and friendly neighborhood vibes. I do wish they would make some further adjustments to certain things that I thought differentiated them from others, the 4-9 pm specials was particularly strong as it allowed for the chance to visit more often when many folks can't make it by 7 pm. At least it isn't as bad as some bars, that I won't name that have basically limited their offering to a 1-1.5 hour happy hour (though it is half price) that runs so early that it's shocking how anyone could visit during that small window.

It has the vibe when you step in that what's going on in the world pauses, a place to unwind, and just about everyone you run into in these types of spots are laid back looking for that same soul in a bar. If you're the type that wants packed, lively and busy, this ain't it (aside from big sports events). The original D&T icehouse first opened in the 1960s and closed in 2012. Then after acquisition and renovation, reopened in May 2013. There's been changing of ownership in that time, but the spirit of what this bar has been about remains. There is a parking lot across the settees and you can generally find parking around the place, which is always nice when you're just seeking to catch up with some friends and watch a game. To that end, the bar is long with a good amount of seating, there's also tables throughout and a large patio, mostly covered, if you have a pet or care to take in some sunshine. They typically have fans running in the summer and some heaters in the cooler months. There are TVs throughout which always have at least one sports event on. They are typically open in the afternoon and close around midnight aside from the weekends, when they stay open later. Food & Drink - 4.25* They have a solid selection of craft beer on tap, a good amount of local brewers, which is great. They also carry a selection of canned beer as well. There is a full bar if you are looking for something a little stronger or are not a fan of beer. As for food, it's a bit more of a roll of the dice. This has changed with time, but generally there's pop up vendors that will visit. You are also welcome to DoorDash or bring whatever you like in as well. Service - 4.25* Ive never had any trouble going into the bar and getting service. They don't have servers in the traditional sense, it's your typical dive bar where you want something, go get it at the bar. On occasion you'll have someone come out and grab an empty glass and they may ask if you want anything. Cost - 4.75* Always subjective but getting some good craft beer at a typical tap price is about as simple as it gets. There's a few that could be adjusted but I've never noticed anything too out of market norms. Overall - 4.5* The only knock I would give D&T over other nearby neighborhood bars in the area is the fact there is a more consistent food setup at most of the others - whether that is in house food or a good rotation of pop-ups. That said, this neighborhood "dive" bar offers just about everything I want in a spot. Local beer, great patio space, plenty of tables for friends or family, local sports, and non-pretentious vibes for those who tend to prefer being away from the massive crowds.
