Absolute joke of a shop. Their sign says "Repairs on All" and "Domestic and Imported Vehicles," but apparently that's just for show. I brought in my BMW with a power steering rack issue as well as the part and he immediately nodded no and said along the lines "I don't wanna go near a BMW". What's the point of advertising that you handle imports if you're going to cherry-pick which ones you'll even look at? Wasted my time and gas. Go somewhere that actually stands by their claims. My old 2007 VW GTI failed the state inspection, and I was pretty worried as everybody told me to get a new car unless I spent $$$$ on repairs and that it would never pass. A couple of local friends recommended this place, and boy, am I glad they did! Vinny, the owner, totally got that I needed the bare minimum to pass. He fixed only what was necessary and didn't try to upsell me on a bunch of extra stuff. He did point out some "weaknesses" he spotted, which was helpful to know for future reference. The service was super quick, honest, and exactly what I needed. They really know their stuff. They've been in business for 26 years - that says a lot! I live in Bergen point and have brought in my car to a local garage in my neighborhood and you had a good experience with the owner Vinny with my first oil change on a certified pre-used car that I bought last summer, I needed two front tires to be mounted and balance the other partner Donald, said bring it tomorrow morning I showed up at 8:30 AM and I'm glad that I asked the price because he was the most expensive, instead of trying to establish a good business relationship from a new customer I felt I was taken advantage of because I called other places and the average price was Mid $40's . I was disappointed so I left his partner was rude and made a comment under his breath about my ethnic long sounding last name. Can't say enough good things about this auto body shop. We've used them several times most recently 2 months ago when we had a fairly major accident. Repair was great (although our insurance company dragged out the appraisal causing us to have to wait quite some time for the repairs to be approved & then completed). If I could give six stars for this place, I would. Vinnie is an amazing mechanic and incredibly nice. I took my 2010 Infiniti M35 into a Sears for an oil change about a month ago. When I left, something happened that caused all the coolant to leak out at once. By the time I got my car home, the car was overheating so bad that the car was stopping every few seconds, lurching forward, stopping again, etc. The temperature gauge was as high as it could go. I towed my truck to Sears the next day to have them look at it. They tested it and thought it was something to do with a broken cylinder head gasket and said that isn't something they can repair. I towed my car to two other mechanics who also thought it was something wrong with the cylinder head gasket and something too labor intensive for them to help out with. I was close to giving up and just junking the car but thought I'd call around to give it one more shot. I called Vinnie at Midtown Auto, described the situation and he told me to bring the car in because he was skeptical that it was really the head gasket. The car situation was bad timing as I had to go on a business trip to Boston in two days. I let Vinnie know about the trip and said maybe I should bring the car in after I got back. Amazingly, he said to still bring it in and he would keep my car their during the trip! Above and beyond almost any other garage IMO, especially given how little space most garages have for housing vehicles. The next day, as I was boarding my train to Boston, Vinnie called me and said he had already fixed my car. He also got the emissions done for me and repaired a flat tire! He was able to fix the car when three other mechanics couldn't. It was amazing. To top it all off, the amount he charged for all these services was ridiculous. He should have charged me at least double what he did. How often can you say that about a car repair place? I will only go to Midtown Auto now for any auto problems. Living in the Bayonne area only gives me a few choices when something goes wrong with my vehicle. I have bought this car in to them many times but only because when I bought it from a used dealership it was a piece of crap already. So every so often something new breaks on it. However every time it breaks down and I bring it to the guys, they fix it permanently. I had the worst gas leaks on this car and brought it to Firestone time and time again and they said it was fixed but it would continue to leak. I brought it to the guys and have not had to deal with that problem since :) Vinny is very kind and knows his stuff and they fix it quickly, so I fully recommend going to their shop :) read more

I live in Hoboken, was recommended here at some point and went for several years. But the last year or two there have been increasingly frequent minor errors, like a mixup on a tire repair, and other little things. Not a huge deal if I lived in Bayonne, but coming from Hoboken it's pretty inconvenient to need to come back a second time. But the deal-killer was a very sloppy oil change in July. Oil cap was left off, and a leak (which did not exist before the oli change) may have been caused and / or missed. (I can't prove how the leak came about however.) Between oil splashing out and leaking out, I lost all my oil. Didn't ruin my engine, but it was a scare. So... not going back. Ah well. read more

I've visited this location on 3 separate occasions with 2 of my vehicles. normal maintenance services. Two guys that seem to work behind the counter a slim man and a heavy set man. On all three visits the heavy man seems to have a grudge for me as if I've done something to him. The thinner man has great customer skills. While my work has always been done with good quality as well as in a timely manner ill be looking else where from now on I like to be treated like a human being. Today I passed in simply to schedule a test drive with a mechanic to possibly help diagnose a noise from the vehicle. The only option I was given was to leave the car. I said that wouldn't be an option and I was told to wait an indefinite time with the possibility of maybe someone helping me. It really is a shame that the customer is not first at this establishment. I was also told its not a 123 thing to diagnose a ball joint. It pretty much is jack up on side of the car check for play check for rips. I choose to come in because time for me is limited not lack of mechanical knowledge. TLDR: Heavy set guy has low customer service skills and paying customers seem to annoy him. Lied to about complexity of troubleshooting an issue. read more

I've needed a couple of things done on my Ford Explorer for a looooonnnngg time, but just recently moved to the area and didn't know any of the auto shops. Who would do a good job and who might fleece me? Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore (and had enough spare $'s on hand, just in case) and found Midtown Auto. I brought it over in the morning and Vinny took a look at what I needed. He said honestly it might be real busy so he couldn't promise to get to it the same day, but asked me to leave it just in case and he called. A few hours later, he called and said that one job was done and the other was waiting for a part to come and if I left it, they could have it done by the next afternoon. But he left the decision up to me. I said OK. A little after 5 PM, Vinny called again to say that they got the part already and all the work was done! Two clowns run this service. They knock off bolts, put after market garbage, and take sometimes a month, and do not let you know that they did such changes, while charging you for OEM parts. One repair was actually dangerous, and could have caused a fire. I found ER Repair on Seaview Ave in Jersey City much more reliable. read more

nice place, quiet and lots or room to get your car in and out, convienient location and small. problem was they tried to stick me with some cheap chinese made tires without my knowing it, i called back and asked for name brand tires and that i would happily pay more for them. Which they provided , they were going to charge me $100 a piece for chinese made tires, imagine that, Also thats some MARK UP $$$!!!! There's more money for the auto shop when they can sell you the cheapest tires because they can mark it up alot more since the tires are so cheap for them to buy to begin with. Lord knows how those tires would behave in the rain, snow or at high speeds for long distances! I just didnt appreciate that. A customer should be given a choice as to what there putting on their car especially when it comes to tires as your only going to buy them every few years. So why be stuck with inferior crap on your car right???? Why should I drive around for 40 or 50 thousand miles on those crappy tires. I dont want my safety compromised so he could make an extra few bucks per tire and stick me with the road hazard. That was real shotty. Would he put those on his children's cars too? i highly doubt it. read more
