    Creme brûlée latte
    Kyle J.

Decided to try a local coffee shop this morning, and noticed this place had some good reviews, so I decided to give it a try. A pretty small coffee shop, and has an antique look I would say inside. But the customer service was great as I let them know this was my first time. They gave me some good recommendations, and I ended up going with the Hot creme brûlée latte. I heard they make their own ingredients and syrups and such, I went with their homemade Oat milk for the latte, and I would say the latte was not bad. I also noticed a lot of yelpers raved about the croissants. I went with the Ham and Cheese Croissant. I will say 10/10 ! It was very flaky, they heated it up as well, and the buttery flavor was my favorite part. Would definitely order it again and may have to try another flavor as I saw someone buy a few almond croissants which sound good too. Overall, a nice little local coffee shop and I do recommend giving the place a try!

Sugar & Rhyme is a cute, quant coffee and tea shop located in downtown Elgin. When I arrived, there were quite a few people sitting and enjoying their drinks and food. The inside wouldn't necessarily be conducive to work from but would be nice for a casual catch up with a friend or an alone morning. The staff member was extremely kind in explaining some of their specialties. I was super excited to hear they make all their house syrups, sauces, and oat milk! Getting a fresh coffee without all the preservatives is so nice! My lavender latte was ready in minutes. The flavor came through very nicely and was not subtle. I recommend going in knowing their latte was not as creamy and frothy as others I've had but tasted delicious in its own sense. This was definitely one of the better coffee shops I've visited in Elgin and will certainly be back!

Iced Chocolate Carmel latte SO YUMMY

Great independent coffee shop. I had a ice chocolate Carmel latte that was excellent. Mo key bread was good too! LGBTQIA friendly! Chairs ARE comfortable.

This was a wonderful site with flavorful coffee. Not for the chain-aquatinted. Cash preferred!

Great baristas! Great bakery! We love the croissants they make: butter, chocolate and almond. The bakery items too. Lattes are so good. We love to start our day here. So friendly.

Service and coffee was excellent. Just need more seating. Some people came in with computers and took up critical tables.

Had an amazing almond croissant. Also sampled the savory ham. Counter staff was friendly, and helpful. Nice place to enjoy a snack.

5 stars for the veggie quiche alone. Not a lot of seating. Very lovely staff. Chai was good.

There's some quite unusual flavors so you can come back a few times. Coming here the first time it was kind of confusing. It's located on one side of the entrance. There's a bit of a passage to get through. Has mostly gelatos. There's also a few sorbets at times. It's about $5 a scoop, but there's much more than just bowls and cones. They make milkshakes and even have hot and iced coffee including Turkish. Crepes are one of the main items. These are filled with chocolate, Nutella, or basically whatever. Also they have dip sticks, which is fruit on skewers dipped in chocolate. They also make lava cake and other big items. Got a lot of sweet stuff to both drink and eat. It's located on Douglas close to Highland. There's a lot of more unusual flavors, along with more common ones, so it has a pretty big variety.

Honestly, I wish I could give them negative numbers because even one star is overrated. I can't speak for their regular menu, but I ordered a surprise bag on the TooGoodToGo app. Maybe I was wrong for assuming it would contain items from the day before, but what I received should not have been given away--let alone sold for any amount. It clearly had been sitting for at least a couple of days. What I received sent a clear message: they don't value their customers. It's profit over people. Why they would serve that crap is beyond my understanding. Honestly, it should have been trashed. It wasn't even palatable. I couldn't tell what the pastries were supposed to be. They were inedible by my standards, but I bit into two different pastries to give them the benefit of the doubt. They weren't just old and stale--they were bland and stingy on the filling. It was obvious they were several days past shelf life and likely not appetizing even when freshly baked. It honestly felt like the cashier just went in the back and threw a handful of old leftovers into a bag. My experience was 4 months ago, I waited and came back here to check out other reviews older and newer before changing mines just in case it was a one off situation. Unfortunately, it seems to be a consistent pattern. Needless to say, I won't be returning.
