Having toured France about 10 times I am a bit picky about Croissants. Most in the US aren't worth the calories. This place makes Croissants at least as good as some of the best in France. Their coffee is also good and they try to keep the prices reasonable, especially considering the quality and the very friendly service. read more

Nice coffee spot in downtown Elgin that I was glad to find this past Saturday afternoon. Very friendly baristas and a large menu full of the usual suspects and more. Ordered a Chili Chocolate iced latte after one the baristas gave me a rundown of what was in it. Tasted great and liked the laidback feel that I got even from just being inside of the cafe for a little while. Looking forward to warmer weather so that I can grab an iced shakerato the next time I'm in Elgin. read more

Decided to try a local coffee shop this morning, and noticed this place had some good reviews, so I decided to give it a try. A pretty small coffee shop, and has an antique look I would say inside. But the customer service was great as I let them know this was my first time. They gave me some good recommendations, and I ended up going with the Hot creme brûlée latte. I heard they make their own ingredients and syrups and such, I went with their homemade Oat milk for the latte, and I would say the latte was not bad. I also noticed a lot of yelpers raved about the croissants. I went with the Ham and Cheese Croissant. I will say 10/10 ! It was very flaky, they heated it up as well, and the buttery flavor was my favorite part. Would definitely order it again and may have to try another flavor as I saw someone buy a few almond croissants which sound good too. Overall, a nice little local coffee shop and I do recommend giving the place a try! read more

The good: everyone that works here is very sweet. The pastries are pretty darn good. The vibes are chill and very welcoming. The bad: honestly, every coffee I've ever gotten here. I've tried to get a plain ol latte with oat milk multiple times thinking maybe with time, they'd get better. Spoiler, they haven't. They're always very watery and seem to be more like a weaker drip coffee with milk added. I think they might shine more on specialty drinks. I'll continue to return for baked goods but might skip the coffee next time. read more

Sugar & Rhyme is a cute, quant coffee and tea shop located in downtown Elgin. When I arrived, there were quite a few people sitting and enjoying their drinks and food. The inside wouldn't necessarily be conducive to work from but would be nice for a casual catch up with a friend or an alone morning. The staff member was extremely kind in explaining some of their specialties. I was super excited to hear they make all their house syrups, sauces, and oat milk! Getting a fresh coffee without all the preservatives is so nice! My lavender latte was ready in minutes. The flavor came through very nicely and was not subtle. I recommend going in knowing their latte was not as creamy and frothy as others I've had but tasted delicious in its own sense. This was definitely one of the better coffee shops I've visited in Elgin and will certainly be back! read more

Friendly service, great coffee, and spectacular baked pastries. The croissants are buttery and flakey, made fresh and delicious. The brioche cinnamon roll had depth of flavor from the spices. Only about 8 seats, it's not a place to sit for a long time because there's usually someone waiting for your seat. Love this place, we'll be back! read more

The service is good,however, the pastries are ok. Their pastries are not as good as Arabica's coffeehouse when it was in Elgin. If you ask to have the croissant warmed it comes out too flaky and too dark. The coffee is good but I think the tea is overpriced. I'm sure that they are trying to be mindful of how much they can spend on pastries, however, they always seem to run short of them by late morning and not much left for lunchtime on. Plus their quiche is bland. Sorry, but because of the standard that Arabica had when they were around, I don't think that their pastries are great. The coffee is really the only thing that I would buy. read more

I have been waiting for a cafe like this to come to Elgin for a long time! When you walk in the door, the scent of baking pastries is divine. The crème brulatte was very good, even though I don't typically enjoy sweet coffee drinks. The almond and chocolate croissants were also very impressive. It was nice to see a steady stream of patrons come through as I was studying and enjoying the atmosphere. I plan to return often! read more
