What an incredibly fun craft cocktail speakeasy bar. The drinks are fantastic with a clever story-telling experience conveying the options. Prices are definitely on the high side, but comparable to Death & Co or other elevated cocktail experiences. The trickiest bits are 1) getting a reservation (gotta use the custom app) and 2) finding the entrance, but after that it's all straightforward. We had such an incredible experience here. From confirmation to check in, from seating to pay out. The vibe was immaculate, the snacks were savory, and the drinks absolutely lived up to my expectations. After giving your entry code, you follow a corridor and stairs to the host. The host greets you with Prosecco and leads you to your table. They tell you that their menu, while story book style, tries to evoke memories. They're right. We did have a trio of men sitting close to us that desperately wanted to be the loudest men in the bar, and they were successful. I do wish people knew how to conduct themselves, but that is not to the detriment of the bar itself. I fully recommend this place and am going to be returning ASAP. read more

We we're thoroughly impressed after coming here! Get the app and make a reservation asap because it is really worth it! We got the secret code on the app the day of our reservation and went inside. I almost missed the code box because of how excited I was! It was quite dark inside but I loved the ambiance. Each drink was $20 but we all shared and they were all enjoyable! The service was great! We had a lady and she checked in with us the perfect amount and did not bother us like most servers do. We each got two drinks and loved them all! Each drink was unique and amazing. Best speakeasy in Austin! The drinks, service and overall vibe are 10/10. Downloading an app to get the gate code, navigating downtown to find the gate, then entering the dimly lit bar is such an experience. When you walk in, you're greeted by a big taxidermy bear with champagne then taken to your seats. I tend to get the Gin or Champagne drinks and my boyfriend gets the Whiskey and Tequila drinks, and each of them are great! We tend to go out to dinner nearby then end the evening at HNT with a few cocktails. Lovely overall! read more

After having a few spectacular cocktail experiences in Houston recently, we were looking for something to blow us away in Austin on a recent trip. Here Nor There popped up on the Yelp machine so we decided to go for it. Well first things first. You gotta download an app to make an appointment. There was a little hesitation on our part but we went for it. Well, turns out they were all booked up while we were in town. There was an option to let us know if anything opened up. Shortly before the trip, we were able to get a reservation so we moved around our plans to fit Here Nor There into our itinerary. Shortly before our visit, we were given instructions on how to find them and a code to get in. Yes we knew the address, but it is definitely not in plain sight. We found the black and white wall and a keypad. There was a couple ahead of us but we let them have their moment and close the gate behind them. We wanted to have our own moment as well. We entered the code and voila, in we went down a short, dimly lit alley where we were greeted by a doorman. He conversed with some folks in the basement and told us to go on down the black and white stairs into the darkness. Once we entered, we were greeted by a very friendly hostess and Rasputin, a large bear holding a tray of complimentary champagne which we happily accepted. We were then lead through a dimly lit, intimate room with a small bar. They had a few seats at the bar, along with little nooks with seating. Most all the seating was set up for two so this is a great place for date night. We were seated along the wall and had a nice, candlelit table with water and snacks. They presented us with what looked like a story book. This was the menu that told a story with all the drink options. Super cool! You won't find a menu online as they change it up frequently. It was a hot summer day, so all I wanted was a cold, refreshing drink. Leann was our waitress and she was amazing from start to finish. She knew that menu well and gave us excellent suggestions. I started off with Beach Vacation. Presentation alone catapults them to the top of the cocktail game. Mine came complete with a tiny little sand pail filled with champagne sorbet. It gave that beach vibe they were trying to convey. The drink was delicious and refreshing. It came complete with a large ice cube with their logo on it. I had every intention of having just a drink here, but had to go for round two, This drink was the Ice Cream Truck. This one came with a cone filled with mango sorbet. All the little details were awesome and just made for a fun experience. We still talk about this place and can not wait to check them out again the next time we are in Austin. read more

This is definitely the best, if not one of the best, cocktail bars in Austin. I first visited years ago when they first opened, but I don't think I had any incredibly memorable opinions about Here Nor There. However, I visited again a few weeks ago with some friends, and I've been back thrice in three weeks. That's how good it is. It does have a slightly pretentious vibe to it but not necessarily in a negative way if you enjoy the idea of going to an "exclusive" speakeasy. You need to request for a reservation, and they also have a gate code. It's definitely possible to walk in on a weekday evening, which is exactly what I did last Thursday! Here Nor There would fare well in NYC. That's just how good it is. My friend came a few months ago and said they were doing a color menu (drinks inspired by colors), and I thought that was so creative and cool. Now, they're doing a storybook menu where every page is part of a story and is a drink you can order. I honestly can't remember any of the drinks I got because I've tried 4 or 5 during my last three visits, but I can say for certain that every single one was phenomenal. They somehow are able to make a drink taste exactly like an apple pie. There are drinks that come with edible foam or amazing sorbet. Words can't really do this place justice. The only thing I will give a warning about is that they offer food now, but I don't recommend coming hungry. We ordered potato chips that the menu claimed were made in house... but I don't know. They might be, but they also taste just like Lay's original chips. For the price tag of around $15. This speakeasy definitely appeals to the younger, influencer-type crowd. Personally, I prefer speakeasy's that play jazz/lounge music at lower volumes instead of blasting hip-hop/rap. I see that they must've changed their menu because when I went back in March 2022, they actually had specific cocktail names instead of colors. Reservations were done through their app, which was very buggy in its own way, and a code was given to me the day of for their keyless door. I remember there being no photography allowed, but that's obviously tough to enforce. The host was extremely kind and amicable. I did find the atmosphere to be really nice, it's super dark in there but the vibes are really cool! Until you look at the menu and realize they serve cocktails with well liquor for $20+ a pop (also the TINIEST charcuterie board for $55.. you get 4 pieces of one type of cheese). I don't doubt the amount of work that goes into making the cocktails or the snacks themselves, but it's also not rocket science. Thankfully, the service was mostly okay. There were 2 servers on the floor the night I went, but I found that only one of them ended up being attentive toward my group of 4. Two of us arrived earlier than the others, and they were initially proactive in bringing us water and asking if we'd like to get started with anything, but once my other friends arrived, it was like they forgot about us for awhile. They didn't even bring waters or greet my friends for a good 15 minutes after they arrived. I've worked in food service for years, and if there's anything I've learned, it's that every minute counts. One of the servers DID notice I wasn't particularly downing one of the drinks I'd ordered, and she was kind enough to offer me a switch. This was really sweet of her, and I did really appreciate that. They claim to have a dress code, but as soon as I walked in there was a woman in a tracksuit straddling her boyfriend that was in a t-shirt and jeans and making out with him on the couch. Then, after they left, a group of young men in hoodies and jeans and sneakers took their place. I suppose it's a pretty lax dress code, but maybe I expected something a bit more upscale when considering the price, the fun 'secret speakeasy' vibe, and the general atmosphere of the place. Last but not least: the bathrooms. Toilet paper and trash everywhere as soon as I walked in. It was well decorated and the lighting was nice, but I could have done without the mess. Especially for what my bill was at the end of the night. I can see the potential, and I like the premise, but Here Nor There was a major disappointment for me. By the end of the night, it just felt like another cash grab tourist spot in downtown Austin. I unfortunately would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Here Nor There is a speakeasy that so far has been the best one I have been to. They take their craft and the meaning of speakeasy very seriously. You have to make a reservation on their app and then from there they give you instructions on how to find them and the code. We sat by the bar and the vibe and ambiance was great. Such a great date night spot! You have to book a reservation via an app and can only stay for either 1 or 1.5 hours. On the day of your reservation, you will receive a code to get into the bar. We came on Halloween night and loved that everyone was dressed up. The low lights, couches, and decor gave it quite a spooky feel. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted with a glass of bubbly to your seats. There you're given a menu, pretzels to munch on and a light to shine at the menu. I went to Here Nor There a few years ago, and I remember having an amazing time. Yesterday, I came with my husband for his first time, and it was a lackluster experience. I'll start with the positives. Our drinks were delicious! My favorite was the Sláinte, and it was our server's recommendation as well. I enjoyed the menu and I feel like it was a cozy atmosphere. Now onto the bad. Our service was a bit lacking. We finished our first round fairly quickly and did not get checked up on for roughly about 10-15 minutes and there were two servers last night. The worst part of the experience was the music that was being played. This place is an intimate speakeasy and they were playing loud rap music. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy rap music, but it didn't fit the vibe of the place. The cherry on top was that I got charged a $10 service fee for using my American Express credit card that was not disclosed to me at all. We lucked out with a group for 3 for 60 mins. And let me tell you, those 60 mins went quick. You'll be seated in your own section. Its comfy. It's cute. Its trendy. Its dark. Its seductive. Theres plenty of air and ventilation down here. I also went in Feb during covid. We felt safe and it was a good time. I got 1 drink with a food pairing and tax and gratuity was instantly thrown on. I think I dropped $32 for everything. I grabbed a tequila drink and 1 bite pairing. We all shared our drinks anyway. Everything was great, some flavors we enjoyed more but you truly pay for the science and showmanship of the craft cocktail. This is a 1 drink and then relax kinda place. There are some theatrics involved in getting into this place - begging the door guy didn't help and we had to come back another night after going through the app, which once you secure a resy - dramatically - gives you a gate code to get into the alley where the door is. (Obviously the extra hoops made me extra want to get in.) Anyhow the door theatrics set up high expectations - luckily the drinks were really that good, whew. They had just changed to a new "colors" menu for SXSW. I had the Milk and Honey (not officially part of menu), and the Green drink. GET BOTH OF THESE. Both tasty and complex. We came here as a celebration for my 21st birthday! We were greeted by a bear holding complimentary champagne before we got to our seats! Almost every server/bartender was aware it was my birthday which made it even more special. They had made a couple hand written cards that were put around the table. Fair warning reservations are generally capped at 1.5 hours. Drinks are strong and fat washed so the alcohol is really complex, strong, and delicious here. They usually have a theme going for their drinks, when we went they had a holiday seasonal menu and a rotating regular menu with a Color theme. My favorites were the Black, Yellow, and Green drinks. The music and ambiance was top notch and the service was great as well! Reservations are extremely limited so plan ahead. They start you off with a welcome drink that tasted like a sweet moscato or Prosecco. The drinks are super delicious and well thought out here. The vibes are exclusive but not pretentious. If I could give this place 10 stars I would. 10/10 or in Yelp's case 5/5 for the perfect vibe! This speakeasy is located beyond a dark gated alley marked only by its distinct B&W wall in front. If you don't have a code - simply ring the doorbell...I say this because I thought it would be more elaborate -- I walked into the building next door thinking the elevator would take me to a secret place downstairs lol. Once behind the gate, you walk down an artsy and very photo-worthy stairwell and you are transported into a dark and luxuriously-sexy lounge. Right after checking-in the hostess offers you a freshly poured glass of champagne as a palate cleanser. Served by the huge brown bear. My husband and I were walked to the back lounge area, where we sat under the starry sky on comfy sofas, experienced friendly service and vibed out to the best hip hop curation. For those unfamiliar with the limited but unique drink menu, it's all based off of colors. You choose a color and the intention is that the taste will visually represent the color you choose. An impressive merger of sight + taste when you can merge senses to create pure art. I also loved how the color choices had 3 descriptive words next to them. My first choice was black: complex, adventurous, and bold. A perfect summary! Also, shoutout to our waiter from Oakland! Super knowledgable on drinks, great recommendations and all around cool vibes. A friend told me about Here Nor There, and since I was coming to Austin for the weekend I thought I'd try to get a reservation. We were able to get a res for 4, and after we found the actual entrance we had a great time. In true speakeasy fashion, the address does not actually bring you to where you need to go, the app shares some general details, and then you have to find the right door with the right code for entry device (hint there are multiple on the same stretch of the street). However, once we got in, it was a beautiful space with a ceiling that mimicked the night sky and a "tree" growing in the corner. We were given menus and small flashlights to read them by in the mood lighting of the space. We were given the "best of" menu so we had several drinks to choose from based around several themes (i.e. colors, around the world etc.) All drinks are the same price ($20), servers are cool and attentive, and overall we had a great experience. The R&B music from the 90's was a great backdrop to our conversations. We would highly recommend the red drink with tequila, the Milk & Honey, and the Slainte. Grace period of 15 minutes if running late. Went on a Wednesday at 5. Greeted with a small glass of Champagne. Qwaint, small space not crowded at the beginning. As the night progressed more people came but it never got too crowded or loud to where you couldn't hear your conversations. Drinks are themed and rotate frequently. Time of visit was "colors", drinks were spot on to the color of choice and menu was definitely thought out. Ordered red (spicy)and friend order gold(tropical). This was my second time visiting Here Nor There and of course, it was even better than the first time. Their menu has been updated since the last time I visited, with the addition of their "Colors" concept. We ordered 2 drinks each and found all of them to be delicious! My personal favorites were the green, which was incredibly fresh and unique, and the red, which was spicy and almost savory. Service was fabulous as always, the waitstaff here are always down to chat about the drink concepts and flavors. The pretzel bowl is also a nice touch, as there is no food to order.
