My sister and I love HH at Hereford House! We meet up with one of our friends for a Pre Post Malone Concert drinks and apps. We sat up at the bar top and were greeted with some ice waters. We looked over the Happy Hour Menu and I chose to try the Orange Cadillac Margarita. It was very smooth and tasty. We ordered the steak Dijon kabobs and the KC hot honey boneless wings. Our bartender was friendly, attentive and was a hoot to chat with. The food came out fresh, hot and very delicious! I'm beating myself over the head for not remembering our server's name. He was attentive & good! We didn't need to ask for a refill, once! He knew when we needed it / when we were done with our food. Onto the food. The pesto primavera w/ grilled chicken - my oh my was is full of flavor. Bland? I don't think so. Chicken dry? No sir! The 12oz Rib Eye (med rare) - done correctly and so good w/ the brown sugar Dijon. Slightly sweet but paired so well with the rib eye. Let's talk about costs. Costs of drinks - espresso martini $10, worth it..? Yup! Food costs - for steaks, yes. They will always be somewhat on the pricey side. Not sure when but I will likely find myself dining here again! Reserved a table for my wife's birthday and I was not disappointed. Somehow, I confused the reservation time and got there an hour early. The staff were friendly and we were seated within 15 minutes instead of having to wait for our reservation time. Our server, Ricky, was really kind and took care of us throughout our visit pretty consistently. Our food and drinks were out and at our table really quickly! Huge wood burning fireplace in the back of the restaurant that add to the ambiance of the place. We were waited on my Andrew, who was tentative and professional. Our server was very nice and helpful. The complimentary bread was great. However, the rest of the food did not impress me. The Caesar salad hardly tasted like Caesar, the lettuce was also pretty old and browning, wouldn't recommend. The filet was just okay. I didn't care for the seasoning and the medium rare I requested still had some blood, which was off putting to me, but I didn't notice til I was almost done with it. The mashed potatoes were just fine, they were a good texture but unseasoned and pretty cold when they came to the table. My husband and I made a reservation for a date night dinner here last night. While the restaurant itself is very beautiful and rustic, the service and some of the food left much to be desired. For drinks, I ordered the white sangria, which has both peach and orange, and my husband ordered the Manhattan. Both drinks were very good! The restaurant provides complimentary dinner rolls served with both honey butter and whipped butter. The rolls were warm and delicious; however, the honey butter tasted very bitter and the whipped butter was very salty. For an appetizer, we ordered the goat cheese that was covered with a habanero jam and surrounded by sliced strawberries. It was served with perfectly grilled bread. The appetizer is the only thing we would rate 5/5 stars on! The goat cheese was complimented very well by the habanero jam, which was spicy, but not too spicy. The strawberries were fresh and delicious. For my entree, I ordered the Hereford steak burger medium well with sides of the goat cheese and jalapeño corn and the bacon Gouda macaroni and cheese. The burger was cooked right and very juicy. The brioche bun was crispy and fresh. I should have seen that the waiter asking me if blue cheese crumbles were okay on my burger was a forewarning because there was so much blue cheese, it was overpowering. The goat cheese and jalapeño corn was very creamy and delicious! The bacon Gouda macaroni and cheese was also very creamy and the pasta was cooked perfectly! My husband ordered the meatloaf, which comes with sides of garlic green beans and mashed potatoes. I did not try the meatloaf but, from my perspective, it looked dry and like it had been microwaved. My husband said the sides were good, but the meatloaf was very bland. Now, on to our waiter. At first, he was very nice and professional. We were not even halfway done with our entrees when, without us asking for one, he came back with a to-go container and said, "No rush, but I see you're slowing up." I'm sorry, but we thought that was very rude, not to mention weird since he just randomly brought it out. He later came back and asked me if I wanted to use the to-go container. When I told him no thank you, he said in a sad tone, "Nobody is finishing their meals today." I hate to be rude, but there are some things that are best left unsaid at a restaurant, and that is one of them. As my husband has lived in the KC Metro area longer than I have, he told me that he has eaten at Hereford House before and it wasn't good, but was willing to give it a second chance. I stumbled upon this place when we moved here last month. We had to stay at the attached Hilton, and we were tired and too hungry to get picky about where to eat dinner. I'm not sure why the reviews aren't great here, as our food, service, and overall experience were better than we had anticipated. We both split the ribeye and enjoyed a salad before our meal. The steak was cooked perfectly, and we thoroughly enjoyed the homemade dressing that accompanied our salad. We had plenty of food for sharing, and our server was great! This place is somewhere in between Long Horn and a higher-end steakhouse. The staff were nice and welcoming, and our server was great. We ordered off the KC restaurant week lunch menu. My wife started with the 1957 salad, minus the cucumber, with creamy cheddar and creamy Italian dressing. She thought it was really good. I started with a cup of Prime Rib stew. I was disappointed. It tasted canned or prepackaged to me. The meat was tough and the potatoes weren't tender enough for me. After seeing my wife's salad, l wished I had started with that. We both ordered the Cheeseburger as our main, as we'd heard it was really good. The plus side of it was that they put the lettuce, tomato and onion on the side, you get to pick your choice of cheeses, and they give you plenty of mustard, ketchup, and mayo for the burger. The down side is we ordered them medium, and they came back well done, and very dry. We both chose fries as our sides, which were good. Then we never saw her again at our table! We waited and waited...finished appetizer and all the bread and still no salads or soup...waited and waited. I'll give Hereford 4 Stars simply for their Sunday and Monday Night specialty discount menus. We ear there a couple times a month and can recommend the Steak Burger, Country Fried Chicken, Grilled Meatloaf, Short Rib Tacos and the Dijon Fillet skewers all under $17 with one side. Good sized portions, good service and cocktails are also on special those nights - the $7 Mahomes mule being my favorite. We were in recently for a celebratory dinner. Steak was on our minds and a trusted co-worker recommended this particular Hereford House. We made reservations which turned out to be a good thing. That said we were promptly seated and almost immediately greeted by our server whose name I have forgotten and to her I apologize as she was super friendly, helpful, attentive and candid in her recommendations. She was really, really great. We didn't realize the restaurant is attached to what I think is a convention center which at first glance seemed a detraction of sorts. That turned out to be a non-factor, we just didn't expect it. We found the atmosphere nice if a tad loud - especially the lobby. We were served complimentary rolls to start. They were wonderful. My wife ordered prime rib and it was delish if a little under cooked from medium rare. She added twice baked mashed potatoes which were unique and the best mashed potatoes of her life. Asparagus as a veggie done just right. Her desert was key lime creme brûlée, also unique and to die for good. I also had asparagus and green beans paired with a filet mignon. Interestingly, my steak also ordered medium rare was a bit overcooked - still good and moist though. No desert for me. We both had to take some home. Besides our server, I was impressed that all steaks are sourced from any one of four local ranches. Nothing beats local. Overall a great meal and experience. We made a reservation for the Independence location. Upon arrival our table was ready but due to our party not being complete we stopped at the bar since it was still happy hour. The bartender was super helpful and made great cocktails and mocktails. Once we were all together and seated, our waiter was very good and attentive. The ambiance is cozy, low lit and smells amazing. Our server also treated us like we were stupid and didn't know how to read a menu because we couldn't find where the sides were located which they decided to print in the smallest font possible. I have been going to Hereford House for over 30 years. Dating back to the original location. Have always had supreme service and food. I was there on Tuesday this week and spent $140. Service was slow but food was good. I stopped in yesterday to quickly order a beet salad to go. Waited at the bar for 45 minutes and listened to whoever does liquor ordering (assuming a manager ) in a very raised voice complain to employees literally right in front of me. It was a horrible experience. Finally got my salad and brought it home to eat. It was awful. It had obviously been sitting for a while. What few pieces of arugula I had were wilted and I didn't receive bread nor was I asked if I wanted any. I'm a vip member and have obviously spent a lot of money there over the years. Just want to let you know of my bad experience so hopefully it can be improved for the next person. read more

For our entrees, I ordered the set of bacon-wrapped 5-ounce filet portions, along with green beans and an upgraded side of mushrooms. Everything was delicious. My husband had the ribeye along with fries and broccoli, and greatly enjoyed his food, too. We had to splurge on dessert as well, getting a KC Irish Cream Coffee and a bread pudding with flambé. The hot spiked coffee was tasty and potent, but the bread pudding was truly a sensation. Our server lit it on fire right at our table. The portion was large--definitely a dessert to share--and rich, with a thick custard top and bready bottom within a lush sugary sauce with islands of sliced peaches. We also were served some very soft and hot rolls accompanied with a sweet cinnamon butter which was delicious! We started the meal off with an order of KC Hot honey boneless wings. These were FANTASTIC as always. The Chops too were delicious but if I'm being honest, a little on the thin side. Generally when you think of steakhouse Protein portions you think big, but with that assumption in mind, I was underwhelmed. Flavor wise however these were delicious, and the browned butter that was everywhere on that plate to, was heavenly. Food was good but service poor, lacking personality. Coming to Hereford house was the culmination of a date between my wife and me. We were looking forward to having dinner at what we consider to be an upscale steakhouse. Upon entering, we were met with the sourpuss with no smile no personality. I was the mood for steak and my hubs had never been to the Hereford House. I've only been to the one downtown. This one is close to our new house so we went. It's connected to a hotel and usually, I don't eat at restaurants that connected to hotels but since it was the Hereford House, it should be ok. Well, let's start with we ordered the calamari and it also had fried green and red peppers. Most of the dish was peppers. It was tasty and the sauce had a kick. Just wished there were more calamari in it than peppers. Then on to the steaks. Bland. No flavor at all. No seasoning just meat. I added Béarnaise sauce and even that was lacking flavor!
