We ate there for lunch today and we loved it. We had brisket, baby back ribs, burnt ends and sausage. It was all good. The few slices of sausage were just OK but not a link like I was expecting. The potato salad was amazing. We also loved the fries. The collard greens and beans were also very good. It was an overall great experience and will go back again. Arrived at 630pm. Order put in at 639pm. Got waters. Orders 2 meals, all 5 happy hour apps, and old fashioned 10 min later. Still nothing and the waitress said the drink should be coming out. 25 minutes later I asked about the drink and the waitress confirmed the order was in. 5 min later and the hostess came with the drink. Food came out sooner after. There was musician there that night and we had gone thru 3 songs and his intermission before we got anything we ordered. Overall food was ok. Ribs are good and sticky. Burnt end pillows - you couldn't tell if it was just chopped beef. Not to write about the chicken sliders. Pretzel bites were like a cut up long piece with a toasted texture instead of a chewy inside. So we asked for the bill. Took 5 min to get that. We had some gift cards. Our waitress struggled with that and another waiter assigned. Overall it took another 20 min to pay the bill. The waitress came out with the bill onetime. I gave her my number for the rewards. Then, she was gone another 5 min and came back out with things for another table. I showed her the gift cards and she said she would come back. Another waiter came to take the cards and receipt. Another 5 min when she disappeared. The waitress came back with the bill with deducted gift cards and my credit card. But she didn't bring a pen. In short, they were slow in all aspects - initial order, drinks, food, and bill. What should have been a 45 minutes stay was more like 1 hr and 40 min. During our late December 2025 visit, a group of 10 of us went to Blind Box BBQ for dinner, and the service was spectacular. We shared a variety of dishes, including nachos, sandwiches, and a few Rashee plates. My personal favorites were the ribs, cornbread, and collard greens. The nachos were perfect for sharing and disappeared quickly. The kids loved the mac and cheese and cornbread, while the guys couldn't get enough of the burnt ends. In general, I think BBQ is often freshest during lunch hours, but we still had a fantastic reunion dinner. I have been itching to try this place for a long time. I was disappointed. Service - This is a tough one to rate. I saw many tables being taken care of by waiters, and even the store manager coming out and doing his part for those sitting at tables near ours. Our table, for some reason, was being covered by the bartender. He did stop by... but had a weird vibe of trying to be our buddy. He did not act or look like staff. But he did take the order and deliver the food. I think we are going to go with 3 stars. Ambiance - Well, the design is nice enough. There is no personality, and the building could be utilized for any kind of eatery with little to no changes. Normally, that would get a standard 3-star... dropping it to a 2-star in this case because this is to be a BBQ place... and the smell of smoked, roasted meat... is seriously missing. Food - Again, nothing wrong with it. In fact, the flavour of our sides was actually rather good. So 4 stars... except... Everything, as a side, either came from a tub or a frier. I began to be seriously suspicious of the BBQ, the sides, and the kitchen on mass. It is almost as if everything is preportioned somewhere else and just used a suvied, frier, or grill, to make it plate-ready. So we are gonna drop to 3-stars. I also noticed that they have whiskey, bottles, and cans. No taps. Though they do serve all drinks in a glass. The whole place gave me a vibe of a quick setup that they could pick up and leave at any time. To wrap this up... If this BBQ place were somewhere else, it would get rated rather high. But this is Kansas City. There is MUCH better BBQ, cheaper, just down the road... no, it doesn't matter which road. My honest opinion... this is a half-hearted attempt at a BBQ restaurant and more of a quickly tossed together venture to capitalize on area BBQ. We are so glad we did the buffet for Mother's Day. One of the best buffets we have done thanks to their delicious ribs and other assorted goodies. On my plate, I had some lovely smoked salmon, some shrimp cocktail, bacon, sausage,some macaroni and cheese with burnt ends and a lovely piece of prime rib. They had a chocolate fountain with strawberries and rice krispy treats to dip, assorted fresh fruits, cake pops macarons, petit fours and other small desserts. Came here for the Father's day brunch and the service was some of the worst service I've had in a LONG time. The brunch and food were delicious. My sister ordered a cheeseburger and it came out with no cheese on it twice. She had to wait like 30 minutes to get it. My dad also called to make the reservation twice and they still messed it up. We had to stop them to even order drinks after sitting for more than 10 minutes. The buffet line is messy and you have to come back out through the entrance so I had a stain because I got bumped and the bbq got on my shirt. I never got a refill on my soda and we had to ask multiple times for water refills. The smoke sausage was three thick cut medallions, nicely seasoned and ham was smoked with a touch of sweetness on the back end. Beans were thick and sweet, good taste. Mac was creamy shells and you actually see and taste cheese. Will say I preferred the sweet sauce over the original, so I would ask for that on your sandwich or on the side. The wontons were chopped brisket, pulled pork and cheddar cheese. While they taste okay alone, you have to sauce, it's like honey chipotle. Before my on-site visit, I had tried Blind Box catered a couple of times, and was a bit underwhelmed. So, when the opportunity arose to have this fresh, straight inside the restaurant, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to salvage my overall take on it. We visited with some friends, making for a decent-sized party, which they accommodated without issue! We were promptly seated and helped, and our waitress was kind, attentive, and very helpful and friendly! Although it's located in a fairly-generic strip center, the inside of the restaurant definitely gives off the right vibes about the incoming smoked delectables coming your way! The menu has all the normal, expected barbecue options, including a good selection of smoked meats and some mostly-standard sides. One of my friends highly recommended the smoked sausage (one of my favorite smoked meats!), so I decided on the combo dinner that included that sausage, some ribs, and some burnt ends, along with two sides. The sausage and ribs, while dry, both did have a nice, smoky flavor to them. Also, the burnt ends were appropriately tender and fatty, exactly the way I like them. Both of my sides - the barbecue beans and the sweet potato fries - were solid. And lastly, I enjoyed both sauces I tried. On the downside: the ribs and sausage were both desperately dry, requiring sauce to salvage. I was hoping that we'd get pretty fresh 'cue, being it prime time on a Saturday (and, maybe it was), but, either way, they did come out pretty dry. If I put my SUPER critical barbecue hat on, I'd still probably land at the overall food here being a B, or B-. Call it good, not great. All of the meat I tried was not competition-winning (as per the restaurant name, which I really like!), and the sides were only well-executed "standard" fare, nothing overly creative or outside the box far enough to get an A-rating. So, that said, in a city and region chock-full of spots vying for barbecue business, it's difficult to say when I'd make it back here, unfortunately. The server was attentive and nice and the food came out quickly. The food was very good including all the sides we ordered. The restaurant was also clean and orderly with a great playlist! Negative: the only two things negative I consider negative is the bathrooms are one person stalls with a community sink outside the stalls which I don't care for. Also the food temperature could have been hotter. The ribs were just barely warm and the fries were warm to cold. Then I get up to go get my plate and I keep having to put them down and pick up the next one because they are all FILTHY! Wow, dirty plates? Stick to what you know! Blind Box BBQ needs to stick to bbq because jumping on the brunch craze is not a lane they need to be in. Although this place packs to the masses for brunch just cause everybody and they momma is there doesn't mean you need to too. I came during restaurant week and it was 2 for $55 to eat their brunch when it is typically $36 a person. $36 a person is exploitation because none of their things are good and come across as frozen. They have an omelette station and a waffle station. You have to order it from your table and it takes forever to get to you. When the waffle came out it was over cooked and hard to the touch. I could've lost a tooth. And the omelet was nothing special...kinda runny. What is also a turn off is that the omelet station is right by the door so everyone waiting for a table is hovering over your omelet...gross. As for the buffet "stick to what you know" is the theme.. In the Buffett they featured French toast sticks and pancakes that looked like they were frozen but got jazzed up by getting heated up in a skillet and not in the microwave or toaster like what you would do at home. Their potatoes had no taste, their enchiladas were gross, their sausage was cut weird. They featured some of their typical sides and also chicken wings and ribs which were good along with their smoked salmon. Although those items were good.... it's a bbq place, I would hope so. For it to be brunch I feel like the ribs and chicken wings were left over from the night before and warmed up. It was good but....if you want to have a bbq buffet just say so. Their sweets table was impressive looking because of the chocolate fountain but everything looked like it was purchased from the Sam's Club. Or we can make it Costco to make it fancier. I ordered the Notorious P.I.G. with bourbon baked beans. The sandwich is really tall with a heaping pile of onion straws on top. I was trying to figure out how to best tackle it and decided to press down from the top bun. This was a very flavorful and filling sandwich. First off, I recognize that our poor experience happened on Father's Day--probably the Super Bowl of BBQ joints. I also get that our reservation was for later in the day, at 6:30 PM. I understand that BBQ places run out of meats. That's part of the game. But with all that said, nearly everything that could go wrong, did go wrong: They were out of ribs when we sat down. Fifteen minutes after we placed our order, they ran out of brisket and burnt ends. That meant scrambling to revise our order and settle for items we wouldn't normally choose. There was no consideration reflected in the check. I'm not asking for freebies, necessarily--but come on, don't nickel-and-dime me after all the chaos that derailed our meal. The food we did get ranged from "meh" to "pretty good." Not "good good," but about 3.5 out of 5 stars. I will say the mac and cheese with pulled pork (originally ordered with burnt ends) was solid. Smoked gouda will usually carry a dish. My kid's meal didn't get entered (they blamed the tech), so he had to sit for another 5-10 minutes while they cobbled together a pulled pork sandwich and corn. Unclear why that took as long as it did. My tequila drink--the Butterfly Sting--was just okay. It could've used more heat and definitely more tequila. It ended up tasting more like spiked lemonade than a proper cocktail. I wound up with a chicken Philly instead of the brisket or burnt ends. I don't go to a BBQ joint to eat yardbird--I'm there for pigs and cows. I mean, who gets a chicken Philly at a BBQ place? This guy, apparently. It came out drowning in sauce and looked like it had been under a heat lamp for ten minutes. Definitely a fork-and-knife situation. As sides, I had the smoked potato salad and beans. The potato salad was intensely flavorful--to a fault. The first bite was great, but it quickly became overwhelming. Same with the beans: they started off strong, then somehow became tiring. I'm not even sure what I mean by that, but I definitely liked them less as I went on. To be fair, the brisket and burnt ends we didn't get looked amazing as we were walking in. They have a great-looking drink menu, though one bartender was clearly getting crushed by the volume of orders. Our server was friendly and mostly attentive, but someone--ideally a manager--should've checked in when things started going sideways. We went from excited to try this place to just wanting the check and calling it a night. That's when a manager should step in to give guests a reason to come back. Multiple times our server told us the kitchen was in "shit hit the fan" mode. I believe her--but I didn't need to hear about it as much as I did. I might give this place another shot because I've heard great things, and yes, it was Father's Day. But right now, I'm left with the taste of smoke--and not in a good way. First, Andrew Sullivan, the Director of Sales, does an outstanding job. He is informative and his service is next level. Easy to work with, informative, and sincere. He provided all the items required so I could focus on our guests. We hosted an industry training in our facility. About 30 people.
