I've been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time! The stars aligned for brunch this morning. It is unique in that they serve lunch/breakfast items no matter what time of day. My daughter ordered biscuits and gravy. She said it's her new favorite place to get them. The gravy was perfect and the consistency was thick. It was seasoned perfectly. My husband got the tenderloin dinner, which he enjoyed. I ordered the giant tenderloin sandwich, as that is what they are famous for. It wasn't as large as what I have seen in pictures. But, I'm a quality over quantity girl so that's all good. I thought the tenderloin itself could have used a tad bit more seasoning but overall was cooked well and was tasty (and I'm particular about hand breaded tenderloin). Good food and friendly service. Watch out though when paying with a debit card. They are charging a surcharge on debit cards which in the state of MO is illegal and is also against VISA and Mastercard agreements when they agreed to accept these debit cards. They told me that it's just the way their machine works because it doesn't recognize the difference. read more

Been missing one of those old time dinner cafe experiences?? Make your way here. We caught a late lunch on our way east. Seemed busy but really was not even full. Good service. Real food cooked for you. This is not fast in and out stuff. This was a friendly little side trip. Not much off 50 hwy. My wife had a burger and thought it was fine. She said next time she'd like to explore more of the menu. While you can get breakfast when they're open I discovered the grits are popular enough that they were out. So I had a roast beef open sandwich. Plenty of mashed potatoes and the bread was fresh and soft. Good beef gravy. The roast beef slices were different than I was expecting but they sure were good!! We've heard about their great pork tenderloin so maybe that'll be out next pick. They have everything you might want for breakfast. It's a good menu. Being your appetite!! Food is mediocre at best. This place caters to the retired community from what I can tell. Half the time they close early, they don't open until 8am..... Aren't most people at work by 8?? This has changed ownership over the last 6 years. It is currently called J&K Roadside Grill, and is owned/operated by a husband and wife. He is a trained chef and has put some personal touches to an otherwise traditional cafe menu. The staff, like much of Lone Jack, is still a bit slow and not used to rushes of business. They should get adjusted as J&K has only been open for a few weeks. I had the Meatloaf (tabbed as better than your Mom's). It had great flavor and was topped with mashed potatoes and onion straws. The onion straws were plentiful (which was to my liking) and the potatoes were applied with a pastry tool - which only made them LOOK fancy. Their flavor was lacking and there wasn't enough sauce from the Meatloaf to serve as a gravy. My steamed veggies were cold and ordinary. I plan on going back and trying a custom made burger. The other patrons' food looked good and the owners are visible in the restaurant. Worth a try! read more

Clean, cute, right off 50 highway. The food is regular old diner food, nothing fancy. Breakfast served all day. Portions are good-sized, and I thought the prices were in line with the norm... $5.99 for my two-egg breakfast with sausage, hash browns, and toast. The servers are all quite friendly! They still have a smoking section, which would normally cost them a star, but it is sensibly located in a completely separate section of the building -- & I didn't even notice an odor of smoke while we were there, so it's probably got a separate ventilation system. read more

For what it is, it's great. We were traveling on the 50 and saw this little cafe and thought we'd give it a shot. It was a pleasant surprise! Very humble setting, but with good, American style food, not pretentious, tasty, and affordable. This cafe is situated right near the freeway where travelers will see it and drop by. Lone Jack is a very small, but charming town, and this appears to be one of the few restaurants in the town. Whenever we're in the area we try to drop by. We've been there a few times and the food's always good, service fine. read more

This place has the best feel of small town. Everyone knows each other. Stories and jokes shares. The food was absolutely amazing. My daughter and I had a great time on our road trip. I read about this cafe and had to try it. We stopped by for lunch and it was packed. We waited for a table and sat down to one that had just became available. I was amazed watching the only waitress in our non-smoking room, clear and clean our table, asked us what we would like to drink, serve other customers, take other orders, receive payment for other diners, bring our drinks, then take our order, all with a smile. I ordered the 'giant ', or should I say, massive tenderloin sandwich with fry's and my guest ordered the Ruben with fry's. When our food arrived, the first thing I asked my waitress for was a box. She just laughed and said you're supposed to wait and see how far you get first! I could only eat the tenderloin around the outside of the big bun and was able to eat all my fry's. The fry's were incredible. My guest was able to devour his Ruben and fry's which was moist and cheesy. I will be having the rest of my tenderloin tonight, IF I can finish that!! Kinda expensive for average (some would argue below average) food. I took my 3 kids there and we ordered 3 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 orders of bacon, an order of sausage, and an order of toast. This totaled $30, which would have been OK if the food had been better. I don't see me coming back. read more

Best burger I have had in ages. And BONUS!!!! They have tater tots!!! Breakfast all day. Just a little slice of heaven tucked away. Oh btw, they have southern style sweet tea (sugar melted into the tea while brewing), the only real way to do it. The hostess was exceptional and earned a 40% tip. This is a home-style restaurant with excellent food & friendly service. It was busy the day we arrived for 12:30 lunch, but the wait staff was friendly & knew the menu well. This is my new FAVORITE restaurant!!! We moved to the area 6 months ago and have eaten here MANY times. The daily specials are wonderful. The staff is friendly, efficient and accommodating. The owner smokes the brisket himself, it melts in your mouth. I also recommend everything on the breakfast menu, the Salmon Cakes, Chicken Fried Steak and especially the Liver and onions. YES, I like Liver and onions. They have free fresh baked cookies on Friday. You get a LOT for the money. I only wish the place was bigger, so I never had to wait for a table. read more

Wonderful little Mom and Pop Café! Service was great, my coffee was kept full to the brim and food was delicious. Hominy was perfectly seasoned as well as spinach. Loved the egg salad sandwich. Food is below average for what is billed as family run and as other reviewers stated on the high side for what you get. Also considering the whole town is a SPEED TRAP it can get expensive to even stop for any service in the town, unless you just want to fill LJ court coffers and pay for more of the PD equipment. If you go any faster than 1 mph over or do not come to a stop for 5 seconds you will get a ticket. With the food being so bad it's not worth taking that chance for any business their, period. read more
