This Cozy Spot serves up the best fried chicken on a weekly bases. It also has daily weekday specials. Extremely excellent wait staff service. Convenient location.

Really classic diner with food portions on steroids! I had the chicken fried chicken, which was awesome. Everyone at our table of 13 loved their food. Coffee cups never reached empty before a refill.

Enormously pork tenderloin sandwich was delicious! Handmade not frozen like some places.

Great breakfast & service. These folks weren't told about inflation, so the prices are still terrific, too. I've been there several times.

Quiet open arrival, but as it quickly gained patrons, it was difficult with hearing aids to carry on a conversation. Old building, high ceilings - - LOTS of conversations. It's busy with 30 to 50 year olds. It was an absolute JOY to witness their gatherings, hugs and smiles. Eric - - our server, was very kind, patient and helped explain several of the questions we had regarding the menu. We APPRECIATED his attention to our large water carafe, filling it frequently. THANKS ERIC (with a C!!) Our food was nicely plated, temperature perfect and portions were VERY generous. The Classic Breakfast was my choice. Eggs cooked as directed, breakfast potatoes, one smallish, breakfast sausage in natural casing. A steak knife would have been helpful. I don't know the brand of bacon they serve, but it was FABULOUS! Thick sliced, prepared beautifully and mmmm, mmmm GOOD! The plate includes a Cheddar Biscuit. It is BIG and delicious LOOKING! I had to bring it, half of my potatoes and the sausage "to go". My husband ordered the Sausage, Egg & Cheese Biscuit. He was not a fan of the less than tasty sausage. #DIL ordered a Chicken Biscuit - - she shared a bite of the chicken. Let's just say, I KNOW what I will be ordering NEXT time we go. Our grandson ordered his favorite Biscuits & Gravy. HUGE portions, suitable for a growing young man. We will be back! P.S. The Gilded Pear cocktail was delicious. The Key Lime Pie was exquisite. Lovely plating and scrumptious. I shared it with my husband PLUS we brought half of it home.

Came here on a Tuesday evening for a night of trivia, pub grub and cold beer. (an aside, if…read moretasteless lager is your thing, you're in luck, that's all they have on tap. Better options in cans) The food was fine. It's a cool place, plenty of outdoor seating, two stages, indoor and out, pool tables, a long bar and only the faintest whispers of cigarette smoke. The servers and bartenders are super friendly. Service was great for us. Along with our trivia, we got thumping music, a drunk and very vocal contingency, impromptu karaoke, and bumping and grinding atop the bar. This was a Tuesday. If anybody ever tells me Oak Grove can't party, I'll tell em they're a lying SOB. Looking forward to the next trivia. I guess.

We've tried The Oak Tavern several times hoping each time it'll be better than the last, but it…read morenever is. Unfortunately the food looks way better than it tastes. The Buffalo chicken pizza (which I've ordered twice) has been watery each time, with toppings sliding right off the limp crust. We've ordered the fried pickles a few times too, and they taste like they were fried in old oil. If you've had fresh fried pickles versus ones fried in bad or old oil, you know the difference. The beef nachos came out cold, served in a big cast iron skillet that also was cold (why serve cold nachos in a cold skillet?). Service at the bar has also been slow every time. Regulars get priority with very attentive service. As a former bartender myself, I get it: the regulars are sure tippers and people you get to know on a personal level. But every customer deserves attentive service regardless if it's their first time in a bar or their 100th. Also something odd about the bar service: each time I've ordered a mixed drink like Jack and Coke, they serve it in a pint glass. Industry standard for a single serving of Jack and Coke is in a short glass/rocks glass, not in a tall glass unless a customer requests it. The first time I thought it was a simple mistake, but it kept happening the other times we went too. This might be policy here to keep the bartender from having to make drinks more often? But it's not industry standard and is strange. I literally never leave negative reviews, but living locally it really sucks this place isn't better. We make the drive to Grain Valley or Blue Springs if we want to go to a bar because we keep getting disappointed. I'll update my next review of The Oak Tavern with pictures if we decide to try again. Rating 2/5 stars because my husband said his smoked wings that were on special were good! And like I said, the food always does *look* pretty. I hope it's better next time if we decide to try again.

It was cold, and most of the restaurant was empty. When my boyfriend asked if we could sit near the bar, where there were plenty of available tables, the host didn't even look at us and simply said, "Help yourself." I'm not sure why we were treated that way. When the food arrived, my boyfriend's burger was completely different from what he ordered. He ordered a BBQ burger with extra crispy bacon, but it came with no sauce and no bacon at all. My burger was very dry, and the fries were overcooked. I do like crispy fries, but these were far beyond that. I assume the food issues were a kitchen mistake. On a positive note, the ambiance was nice, and our server was kind and attentive. She checked on us more than three times. My boyfriend is so kind and he didn't want to send the burger back.

My favorite is the Philly flatbread; slightly chewy bread, cream cheese sauce base, and topped with generous amount of roast beef, peppers and onions. (Like a Philly Cheesesteak but laid out on delicious fresh flatbread). Now the onion rings; large onion slices covered in an almost tempura like batter and fried until golden brown...batter flakes off when you bite in on the ring and you will find yourself chasing those tasty batter flakes, so delicious!
