Stopped in here on the way back home and enjoyed our ice cream... I couldn't decide between the mocha, espresso, and coffee flavors. Chose the mocha -- it was delicious! Kids loved their ice cream too.

Chocolate chip & caramel - just meh

Meh. Meh = service Meh = taste I'm not sure if we showed up at a particularly busy time, it was a warm Sunday afternoon and we had no idea of open hours because there was nothing here on yelp and nothing we could find, so we tried our luck and they were open at 4pm. There was a line, a few families ahead of us and one ordered the mint ice cream - I know this for three reasons, 1 because I saw her get it, 2 because I saw the remnants of it on the grumpy server lady's glove and 3 because I later tasted it in my chocolate chip ice cream. While mrs grumpy face was scooping my husbands ice cream I also saw the unmistakable green color drip into the vanilla ice cream located behind his coffee flavor. Now, I'm not one for changing my gloves unless I need to, but it wasn't that busy that she couldn't take 30 seconds to do that, I would have waited. As for our ice creams, I got chocolate chip (with a slight minty taste at no extra charge) and caramel. They were nice, and nice to have homemade, which was one of my initial attractions, but nothing special, especially at over $5 for two scoops. My husband got espresso gelato and coffee ice cream. He said that you could absolutely tell it was gelato by the texture and funnily enough, they are charged at two different prices! It took the lady at the register a while to understand what we purchased but she got there in the end. I think part of the issue was that mrs grumpy scooped so much into my husbands cone that it looked like 3 scoops...and I did feel that she may have made up the difference with mine.

I wish I could give this place more than 3 stars because the owners are super cute and their store is clearly beloved in town. But the ice cream was only Ok. I only tried one flavor, butter pecan, and it was OK. Really creamy but just not enough pecans. Not enough oomph. Not enough love. Simply put, just not quite good enough. There are a bunch of ice cream shops in salida so I'm wondering why this one is rated so highly. Maybe I just didn't get one of their best flavors. I'm tempted to try it again. But I'll probably end up trying the other ones first :(

Not only was the ice cream icy, refreshing, and out of this world (we recommend the dairy-free gelato) the worker inside was cool and nice as hell. That's the scoop

The toasted coconut ice cream is incredible and it worth the stop in downtown Salida Colorado. Even with the limited attendance due to the coronavirus, the service is exceptional and it is an exceptional ice cream parlor.

One side of the homemade and in my opinion, truly authentic, display case of ice cream flavors at Here's the Scoop in Salida, CO

While the atmosphere in this ice cream shop is not that great, the ice cream makes up for it. The best way I can explain this HOMEMADE ice cream is just like I told the owner - it tasted as authentic as when I got ice cream as a kid at the Minnesota State Fair dairy barn ice cream stand... as authentic as it is going to get. There is something unique about authentic ice cream that I can't get from any of the well known chains. This place separates from the rest. The owner said he uses his mother's ice cream recipe with his flavors. I would highly recommend it!

We come up every other weekend to visit family, and this is a place we keep coming back to. The sandwiches are really good and consistently high quality every time. They are on the pricier side, but you can easily split one, which makes it a great option to share. The menu has a ton of options--it can feel a little overwhelming at first--but honestly, you can't go wrong. We've tried quite a few, and every single one has been great in its own way. Pro tip: during the summer, the line can wrap around the block. If you don't want to wait 30-40 minutes, ordering online is definitely the move. Also, don't skip their bars--they're absolutely amazing. Perfect to grab for later if you're heading out on a hike, or just enjoy it right there. Highly recommend grabbing a sandwich and taking it down to the river--that's honestly the best part of the whole experience.

Our group each had one of "The Classics". Beef stroganoff…read moretasted okay but very little meat.. Given the word "classic", I was expecting long thinly sliced beef , this was small chunks of beef. When I see "Classic Fried Chicken" on a menu, I would expect crispy pan fried bone in chicken... like what my mom made. This Fried chicken consisted of two roundish chunks of boneless white meat breaded in bread or corn meal, picture "shake--n-bake" consistency. Truly tasted like eating cheap frozen breaded boneless chicken. No flavor. No seasoning , not even salt/pepper. The gravy was pale yellow.. NOT at all like CLASSIC freshly made/home made pan chicken gravy, with chunks of the crispy fried pieces from the pan . This seemed more like something out of a jar.. I subbed seasonal vegetable instead of mashed potatoes. The only thing we ordered that was delicious, Cauliflower and Romanesque . Although when asked prior to ordering , the server said the seasonal vegetable was Romanesque, I was surprised that it was a blend with cauliflower...mainly cauliflower, very few Romanesque The fish and chips looked and tasted like Long John Silver's fast food. Two chunks of fish batter fried. The chips seemed like bulk frozen fries. The person who ordered the fish/chip ate very little of it. The bar drinks were good, on their own, those would be 4 stars. , I ordered the mocktail Butterfly Lemonade. It was a lovely shade of lavender, but was like drinking pure bottled lemon juice mixed with some sparkling water. Zero sweetness, even though simple syrup was the second ingredient stated in the ingredients. We sent that drink back. Server was very nice. Outdoor seating was pleasant. Those elements would be 4 star.
