Heretik is easily one of my favorite Denver openings of the year -- and already one of my favorite restaurants in the city. The space is cozy and charming but still stylish. The people are all great: every interaction we had was fantastic -- from the chef coming out to say hi, to the knowledgeable bar staff, to all the friendly servers. This place is a dream for wine nerds while still approachable for casual drinkers. One of the coolest wine programs I've seen in Denver. Expect Txakolina poured dramatically from high above the glass, unique off-menu bottles, and a serious focus on Jura wines -- those funky oxidative French alpine whites with nutty, savory, almost sherry-like flavors that are still pretty rare to find in Denver. The food absolutely lives up to the beverage program. The menu leans Basque-inspired with lots of seafood-forward share plates, but there honestly wasn't a miss. Favorites included the matrimonio pastry with anchovy, uni toast, deviled eggs topped with ahi tuna, the seafood platter, and surprisingly one of the standout dishes of the night: the half chicken. And of course, you have to finish with the Basque cheesecake. This is the kind of place that feels thoughtful, unique, and genuinely exciting for Denver's dining scene without trying too hard. We will absolutely be back.

Came here recently for date night with my wife and had a great time. Having been to the sister restaurant Marigold in Lyons, we were super excited to check this place out! We ordered a few smaller tapas plates for sharing. Most of them were fairly tasty but definitely a few disappointments. Bread and butter - the bread and butter was pretty good but massively brought down by the fact that the bread was not toasted and was served cold instead. The butter was nice bit after the wonderful bread and butter experience at Madeline, this was one of the biggest disappointment of the night. 2/5 Stuffed Chicken Wing - really interesting dish. The wings are stuffed with boudin blanc and served with a romesco sauce. Super tasty and the boudin blanc is nice and juicy inside. Overall, we really enjoyed the the wings. 4/5 Matrimonio - lightly pickled mackerel over phyllo cracker. This is one of my favorite dish of the nice. The fattiness of mackerel with a slight sourness from the vinegar paired super well with the cracker and yuzu kosho sauce. I could easily down a dozen of these. 5/5 Scallop a la plancha - grilled scallop with bearnaise and seaweed. This was a split for us. I enjoyed the dish but my wife did not like it at all due to the amount of bearnaise on the scallop. The scallop was well cooked and fresh, but the dish does eat a little watery with all the sauce. 3/5 Now onto the main show. We ordered the whole rotisserie chicken. This is definitely the dish to order here as centerpiece for the table. The chicken is super juicy and well-seasoned. The chicken jus was incredible, and the sauce verte was nice and herby to brighten every bite. The fries were crunchy and addicting, though I could see this being just as good with a side of roasted potatoes. 5/5 Overall, we enjoyed our experience here. The service was attentive and the food was great for the most part. The price is a little bit higher for what you get ($68 for the whole rotisserie chicken hurts a fair bit especially since we've been to chicken riot recently) but the quality of the food was good. I would recommend a visit, though I'm not sure if I'll return too often given the fairly limited menu right now.

New spot in the rino area! Upscale French restaurant with great wine-bar vibes. Super friendly staff! The menu is super funky, the apps were okay but the half chicken was insane. The half chicken came on a bed of French fries and it was the best French fry I've ever had (yes I've been to McDonald's, it's better). The two apps we got really were funky. The deviled eggs were good but at the same time were a texture nightmare. I think deviled eggs are so soft and the tuna tartare is also soft so it was strange. Flavor was awesome but texture wasn't for me. I ate them separately. The pinto wasn't too good, the tuna was a little fishy. Now, the half chicken stole the show!! Amazing!! And the fries were the best I've ever had, not joking. The wine selection was awesome. I got the txakoli unfiltered knowing nothing about it and it was delicious! Chilled and great on a hot day!! Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu!! Super happy to have it in the neighborhood

Great vibe, the server provides excellent recommendations which is amazing to have a grasp within seconds after we sat down. All presentation, aroma, and taste are a striking experience. Highly recommend!

This is an easy, five stars for me. Visited shortly after they opened and again recently. Everything about the space is inviting and sets the perfect stage for the experience. The rotisserie glass ovens behind the chefs counter, the open kitchen where you can watch everything being prepared right in front of you is how I wish every meal could be! I love going during golden hour when the sun shines through the windows and the whole staff is cascade in rainbows. But the food is what keeps me coming back for sure! The rotisserie chicken is the juiciest most tender chicken I've ever had, it really can't be missed! They have a pan con tomate, topped with Santa Barbara Uni, and a tiny little Poiquillo pepper that might just be the most perfect bite in Denver! And on my most recent visit, I tried their deviled eggs that are stuffed with a tuna tartare... Let me tell you I don't like deviled eggs, ever. That has officially changed. These are phenomenal! The cocktails are super on point, they even have a house main Negroni that served from a Spanish decanter. All these little touches are what make this one of the most excellent dining experiences of the year for me so far!

Diver scallop with bernaise sauce. Outstanding.

Tried a garage and it was full before we settled on another garage. In the Union Station area, I've been here before and had a great experience last time. We did make a reservation but it didn't seem needed. Cute inside, some indoor seating inside and a small upstairs loft as well as a nice back outside area. Service was friendly and attentive most of the time, small lags here and there and an accidental wrong order for one of the tinned fish. We ordered more bread for both of the tinned fish since we were able to keep both but we did pay extra for it. Had I known, I would have also asked for it toasted. We ordered the Rose Sangria and I believed my husband ordered one of the gin & tonics. For our food, we ordered the Moorish Spiced Ribs, Piri Piri Tuna Tartare with the sauce on the side and the Smoked Trout. The Tuna in Olive Oil was brought out instead of the Smoked Trout but was also good. Definitely recommend coming here.

July 28, 2026 - Denver, CO…read more After a midday hike on the Cherry Creek Trail, we were looking for a shaded, dog-friendly patio to escape the heat. As we wandered through Larimer Square, the menu posted outside Rioja caught my eye, and we decided to stop for lunch. I'm so glad we did. The service was exceptional from start to finish. Our pup was immediately greeted with a bowl of ice water, and despite the hot afternoon, our own water glasses were never allowed to get empty. Those little touches made us feel genuinely welcome. We started with the Summer Harvest Salad ($14) with Rebel Farms greens, freekeh, crème fraîche, pistachios, and fresh herbs. The kitchen thoughtfully split it into two bowls for us, and it was one of the best salads I've ever had--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. For our entrée, we shared the Dumpling Lasagna ($18), made with duck sausage, mushroom ramen broth, egg roll dough, chili crunch, and green onions. It was unlike any lasagna I've ever tasted, wonderfully creative and absolutely delicious. Although it couldn't be plated separately, they provided extra plates so we could easily share. We couldn't resist dessert and ordered the Flourless Fudge Torte ($14) with milk chocolate ganache, cherry compote, and vanilla crème anglaise. It was every bit as decadent and delicious as it sounds, and the perfect ending to an outstanding meal. Between the exceptional food, attentive service, and welcoming patio, we left feeling pampered, well-fed, and truly appreciated.

I used OpenTable to get me a reservation right before closing was like 30 minutes before and I arrived around 45 minutes before my before closing. Ordered a little bit. Greeted and checked in, got a seat right in the front. View was the beautiful street lights. Kyle was my server for the night and he gave me a great layout of whats were the good things to have. I already had the tortellini in mind since it was featured in James Beard awards so I got that it was really cheesy and the truffle was really powerful and then I packed a punch. It was a little bit underwhelming however, I really enjoyed the artichoke soup with chili sauce or chili and then I also really like the beignet. I think I didn't have to go with the seafood. I only had a little bit of the octopus and I was like I don't think I'm gonna get this next time but the next day it was a delicious left over for lunch. It look like a paella. Pretty elegant spot, and recommend for date night spot. Ps loved the starter bread with lavender fragrance. Also the rosemary bread was a majestic touch too!

So much so, that I returned a few months later with a friend before watching the Harry Potter play at DPAC. And AGAIN last night with my husband, sister, mom and her dance instructor and best friend. They are visiting from Atlanta to compete in a ballroom dance competition this weekend. Our waiter was impressive and he managed us well! First drinks, then specials and a handful of tapas while our last guest arrived. Followed by a full on tapas conquest to try every single dish (without seafood). The staff brought several dishes at a time, ensuring we weren't overwhelmed with too many at one time. Perfectly timing the next round of tapas, with new dinner plates, and the next round of drinks. Our waters were consistently topped off. It was a lot! We were a handful! Our waiter (Christian S) knew exactly what to do. Exactly what drinks to recommend. Exactly which tapas and desserts to recommend. Exactly what to say to make us laugh. He rounded out the experience to ensure it was a perfect evening! Thank you Christian! These were some of the highlights: Pan with the homemade salsa verde as well as the pan de tomato The pork with manchego, pepper special was divine! As well as the chicken with garbanzos! Amazing flavor and sauces. The ham, Salchicha, chorizo, olives tray was incredible Other amazing tapas included beets, mushrooms, Spanish tortilla, patatas bravas, meatballs/albondigas, carrot salad, chicken croquetas and the salmon special Followed by churros with chocolate, flan and crema catalana for dessert. It was a delicious meal with a wonderful staff! We would highly recommend and we will definitely return! My only regret is we didn't take pictures of the food except the first one! Beets with Valencia orange and lemon (not sure on the exact name). It was so flavorful, as were all the tapas! Wow! Best meal in Denver we've had in a while! Thank you 9th Door staff, chefs, and Christian!

The Ninth Door to Spanish Serenity (and a Secret Time Machine)…read more For my very first night in Denver, my local "foodie" friends led the way to 9th Door, and it was the perfect introduction to the city's dining scene. After a heavy lunch, the prospect of Spanish tapas was exactly what I needed--light, social, and full of variety. The Experience Since my friends are regulars, I let them take the reins on ordering. We started with sangria for the table, which set a relaxed, celebratory tone for the evening. The tapas that followed were all impeccably sized and flavorful. The Standout: I was pleasantly surprised by the dates. It's a dish I might not ordinarily choose myself, but it ended up being a highlight of the meal. The Vibe: The atmosphere is "buzzing" in the best way possible. It has an inviting layout with a mix of bar seating, tables, and cozy booths that create a "friends among friends" energy. The "Speakeasy" Aesthetic What really sets this place apart is the ambiance. It has a distinct speakeasy feel that makes you feel as though you've stepped back in time. It's sophisticated yet unpretentious--a rare balance to strike. The Verdict If you're looking for a spot to decompress after a high-velocity work week, this is it. It's a relaxing, high-quality environment that focuses on great conversation and even better food. I'll certainly be back next time I'm in town!

And from that point on, from first taste, I knew my experience would be exceptional. The service was attentive without being overly attentive, and the chef's were so kind, answering every one of my weird questions about what they were preparing or ingredients that I noticed. I ordered the smoked burrata to start. The balance between the candied pistachio, artichoke pesto, and wagyu cecina really created a well balanced and unexpected dish. The burrata was creamy and the salty and sweet components balanced the aged sherry gastrique and made for an incredible intro to a beautiful performance by the chefs. Next was another small dish, which I wish I remembered the description for (I need to bring a little notebook with me), but it was a perfect segue into the next course, the ibérico presa. Wow. Just wow. White asparagus has got to be one of my favorite vegetables next to artichokes, when done exceptionally well, as they most definitely were. The piquillo peppers and pickled shallots complemented the pork, which was so soft, perfectly. I definitely died and went to heaven at this point in the meal. This is probably when I should've stopped eating because after this point, still pure delight, but my poor stomach was soooooo full. Next was another small bite to lead into my next course, also incredible. Wish I could describe it. My next course was the European sea bass. Now, sea bass is my favorite fish of all time. The perfectly crisp skin, the red onion jam, the spicy sweet balance was perfection. I loved every bite. The olive oil potatoes were a perfect complement. And at this point, I was bursting at the seems... but I still ordered dessert, because you only live once and food is one of the great joys of life. For dessert, I had the crema. The honeycomb on top, the cherries, all leading to a perfect finish. A time was had. Thanks El Five

Non alcoholic cocktail options looked good too -- my husband ordered something off that list but subbed in regular alcohol and was very happy with the results.
