I've used Heritage three times in the last 12 years for local South Bay moves, and I'm about to use them for a cross country move. Every time I had them pack and unpack my belongings as well as move me. In one case they stored half of my belongings for a year. They've never broken or lost a single thing, and everything came out of storage in great shape. They were prompt, careful, conscientious and courteous every time. And I keep seeing the same people over time, so I believe they must treat their employees well. I will update this review after the cross country move if my opinion changes, but based on my experience to date I recommend them highly. read more

I stumbled upon this series of poor yelp reviews because I couldn't find the phone number of the company so that I could refer it to my friend. I felt compelled to write this as a contrast to the slew of negative reviews. I don't own stock in this company or have any personal interest in it. I am just a satisfied customer who wants to spread the good news. Frankly, I was a bit shocked at the negative comments. I actually had been referred to them by my current landlord. She obviously had a positive experience with them when they moved her and her family. My experience was also quite positive. The move took place in November 2011. What stood out to me was the character of the people who work there and helped me with my move. Carol, the owner, personally came to my home and gave me an estimate of how much the move would cost me. She was very upfront, honest, and a very classy lady. I felt that I was in good hands. I am a single mother of a then 1 1/2 year old. The movers were very sensitive to my needs and the needs of my child. They were also very careful with my furniture. I have a sofa that had to go out a second floor balcony. Carol sent an extra mover just for that specific task. I was not completely ready when the movers showed up. I still had some boxing up to do. They graciously and carefully helped me box up my things and got me out of there on time. You see, I had asked Carol if the total cost of the move would be less if I took less time than estimated. Of course it would. The movers were very conscientious of my need to make that time mark or less. I really think you ought to give them a chance. They aren't the cheapest or the most expensive, but they are licensed, insured, and have good people working for them. It doesn't hurt to call and get an estimate. read more

It's been nine months since I moved and I'm just now getting around to writing this review. Moving is stressful and I decided to go with Heritage despite the negative reviews on here because it was recommended to me by a family member. Heritage took care of everything from beginning to end. They got a city permit to block off space for their moving truck instead of blocking the driveway, double parking on the street, etc. They sent three men, each very polite and professional, to move my 1100 sq.ft apartment which I mostly packed up myself. There were items like the bed, dresser, tv and large mirrors - items I couldn't physically pack on my own or felt uncomfortable doing myself that they packed for me. I'm happy to report that all the items they packed made it in one piece safe and sound. The only item that was lost in the move was a floor lamp which they later issued a check to me for. This was my first cross country move and here's what I learned. Don't move in the summer. It's more expensive because every family is trying move while their kids are on summer break. If you're moving out of CA, there are some regulations that may not let the moving company move your stuff right away. Mine had to sit in storage for three weeks before they were allowed to transport it out of state. If it's valuable to you, pack it yourself. And if you can, take it with you in the move (in the car, on the plane, etc.) Don't part with something you can't live without. Whether it's worth $5 or $5million, it's sentimental value to you will never be understood by someone else. There's a reason this place has been in business for over 30 yrs. Don't be too quick to judge based on a few bad reviews- if you read them they don't have much common sense to them. And be weary of moving companies that quote you the cheapest rate and bad mouth other companies. This happened to me when I called around and I felt it was in such poor taste I immediately crossed them off my list. I hope I don't have a lot more moves in the future but if I do I'd hire Heritage again. read more

My mom hired this company to move her a few months ago. She was, by the way, most definitely a customer. They lost two of her boxes, which had all of her shoes and winter sweaters. The paperwork she signed after the move had two boxes unchecked, representing the ones they did not deliver. She didn't realize what that meant so she signed the form, after questioning the mover about the unchecked ones (he said the truck was empty). When she realized she was missing a few boxes, she referenced the paperwork and saw that somehow the two unchecked boxes were now fraudulantly checked. She has been calling and calling the company for the past three months. The owner spoke with her once and was very nasty. She now refuses to speak with my mother at all and will not answer her calls. The claims representative, Toni, has curiously always been out of the office or in a meeting when my mother calls. For three months, and she has never returned a call. These people are rude, uncooperative, and irresponsible. I can not beliebe a company could be run this way. Please entrust your move to someone else! read more

We used them last year to move. I was going to give them a review last year and got busy and forgot. I had to dig through my paperwork to find their contact information. I am going to call them and probably use them again. They were great. It was not a easy move and they worked hard. They were very considerate and professional. I wouldn't recommend. The contractors who came to pack stuff was alright, back office folks who handles the paperwork wouldn't help if a part is broken or went missing. At the time of drop off there's a checklist I received close to 200 boxes which got checked off and if something went missing you gotta let them know right then and there even though the movers told me I got a month to raise a claim if something went missing or broken. Back office people will hold you accountable since you signed the checklist but how is it possible to go through all the boxes the time when movers are dropping off thats impossible. When I started unpacking that's when I noticed a couple of my sons crib parts went missing. read more

Run away from this people, Carol Thomas the owner is unfortunately as sack of lies, can make you belive as a compassionate senior , but a person with no morals and crooked Broken Promises: When we were sold the concept of hiring packers, we were told that they would be professionals with packing experience. We were told that moving is stressful and so for peace of mind, it is best for professionals to pack. Also, we were told that the boxes packed by the packers would be double insured. The first day that the packers came was a disaster. They were packing garbage, empty bottles, all sorts of things that were not allowed to be shipped to begin with, and we assumed that professional packers knew what they were doing. They used excessive supplies, wrapping paper, boxes, etc, to wrap and pack almost empty bottles of soda, bags of trash directly from a trashcan, and even a tub of margarine, for example. Of the 2 packers, one was extremely frustrated at how slow the other was. He even called his boss to complain. They did not finish the job. We called to complain about the poor packing job and asked to have different people sent to finish. They disregarded our complaint, sent the same packers again, and charged us for this! We actually had to pay much extra because they charged by the hour and the job took double long to finish. They spent a lot of time wrapping paper in paper, and we even found empty rolls of packing tape wrapped in paper. We have photos and videos to show all of this. Many of our items were destroyed with their packing. We explained that certain things needed special attention, which they disregarded. The wedding bouquet was thrown at the bottom of a box, to crumble under books and other random items. Fancy wigs, which we said needed to be packed alone in their own box, were wrapped with packing tape, and stuffed into boxes with soccer balls and back packs. By packing open containers of food, bags of rice, etc, an entire infestation of grain moths was brought across the country, destroying (and continuing to destroy) much of our food. The packing fee should be reimbursed as they caused a lot of destruction. We spoke to Carol, our representative, and she promised us that she would pay for the repair/replacement of the wigs, and apologized. She did not stand behind these claims, and no funds were allotted for the wigs in the settlement suggested. Several times adjusters came out, took pictures, filed for replacements. They were in shock over the destruction brought to much of our belongings. In the end, the company did not reimburse us for most items. #2 Unethical: They brought items they should never bring, like matches, liquids, and they packed trash, garbage that was clarified not to touch. They used expensive wardrobe boxes for bags of garbage, and then stuffed our clothes into tiny boxes. We paid for very expensive special electronics boxes, one was filled with a pillow and a collapsible laundry hamper. Our computer was not wrapped, and stuffed into a regular box, and arrived totally shattered. They also tagged loose items and then forgot to pack them. We saved all of these number tags for the claims, but they denied the claims. They disassembled everything possible, and then lost the pieces and/or did not reassemble. Beds, futons, shelving units, organizational units, sporting equipment; much of this still lays in piles on our lawn, where the movers left it, unassembled and broken forever. Why would they wrap towels in paper, but not wrap picture frames, silver candlesticks, kitchen appliances, and other fragile items that were destroyed? Why was an open cup of honey packed with our silver and valuables? Where did they even find such a thing to pack, which poured onto our items? Clearly this is malicious and unethical behavior by both the packers and the company that continues to stand behind what the packers have done. #3 The did not finish the job. They intentionally left boxes in wrong places. We moved to a 4 story home, and for example, boxes that were labeled master bedroom, were places several flights down in the basement. Boxes labels laundry were placed 3 flights up in the attic. They did not reassemble items and did not finish to move appliances. They left our washer and dryer outside in a garage and we had to pay to bring people to take them into the house and install them. We also had to hire help to move the boxes to the proper floors. #4 They want to make a laughable value of our goods and property. They claimed that I did not file things properly, when really they never disclosed their secret way to claim items in the beginning. The driver told us that we could only put something on the high value form if it was worth over $10,000. Now we are told that we should have put most of our items on the high value form. Horrible no customer service. The office scheduled a move and when I called three days before since I had heard nothing from them, they said they didn't have a move scheduled for me, not that day or any other day. They even admitted to Wheaton the mother company for whom they are an agent, that they screwed up. The owner whom I originally thought quite nice who had initially tried to help me, will not take my phone calls or respond to my emails. They say now they cannot find a truck even though they know that I must be out by the 15th of this month. The mother company says they are trying to help, but cannot promise anything. No recompense for entirely screwing up my life. I had everything ready to turn off, address changed, installations booked for the day after my arrival... and I had to cancel it all only to have to do it again next week. I am going to tell them what they can do with their move, especially the agent in the office who only said 'I'm sorry." and made no effort whatsoever to make it up to me in any way whatsoever. And this after her admitting she screwed up. Even the mother company didn't seem concerned. They said they would 'try' to find a truck. This is egregious. I would never, ever recommend them to anyone for anything. Avoid them at all costs. If I had done something to one of my customers you can bet I would be on the phone to make it right for them. The Owner of the business, Carol Thomas, made a visit to our house to provide an estimate for an out of state move. She was professional and kind, courteous and considerate. Though we did not choose them in our final decision (out of three movers), I would recommend the company for at least an estimate. I received several follow-up phone calls until the final decision was made. Wheaton came in as the highest bid. I trust that they would provide excellent services based on my contact with Carol who was very knowledgeable and thorough. We recently contracted with Heritage to perform a complicated three phase move. The coordination of the move had to be precise or all hell would've broken loose. We were given a "not to exceed" price which was not exceeded. The coordination effort was without fault. The Director of Operations and Owner of the company worked with us to plan and execute the move. We have nothing but praise for a move that went very well on all counts. I used Heritage February, 2012. Carol Thomas, the owner, was most gracious when she first visited prior to the move. After that visit, I don't believe I saw her again. She did show me a way to pack my art paper, and I followed her instructions to the letter. Her crew did not know how she has told me to prepared the papers in their separate drawers, horizontally. But I had followed those directions which would have worked if they were known by the movers working with my shipment. It is still evident by the condition of the papers that they were carried vertically which were was contrary to my request. They were not conveyed as she said they would be: horizontally. The result was approximately $1000 damage just to those expensive art papers. The drawer clearly were carried vertically, smashing against one another. A marble altar was chipped, a valuable native drum was dented. That altar was not crated as she promised it would be. The crate, I believe, did not get into the truck. The marble altar was wrapped by an old, loose blanket, I believe. The day of the move was frankly a horror. First, the truck was not advised that they needed to make their first stop at my storage facility and load those boxed materials first. They did not do that. When I heard there was nothing in the truck, I reminded them. In fact, I had called Carol who was in Las Vegas at a meeting, and asked they she remind her staff early that morning. I had been advised that she normally was present just before a move to pass on such instructions. She was not in town, so these directions perhaps were not passed on with whomever driver they had on hand. They somehow sent a group of movers from another site to help. At that point, there were too many people on top of each other with no one clearly in charge. I think that person may have been sent back to get another truck to get the materials in storage. I have reviewed the Household Goods Descriptive Inventory. Page 1 was clear and done by someone who knew what he was doing. The quality and exactness deteriorated as the pages went on. What indeed was the difference between # 44 "Box PBO" and item # 60 "Box PBO"? I can't read some of the writing. Was # 70 "chair" or Chain?" And what kind of chair? What caused the time delays? It appeared to me that deliveries to service personnel went before me, so how many times were my items moved around. Did anyone advise me that a service person had to take precedence? No. But what happens if items are moved within the truck several times? Of course I cannot substantiate this. If other loads were added for some reason, why was I not advised of the delays? When the second truck arrived, they drove away somewhere I assume to put everything in one truck. During that time, the people who remained continued to work at my apartment. Time was lost in these transactions, none of which were shared with me. It was clear they did not know each other. There was a mix of languages being spoken. No one was in charge as far as I could tell; one person identified as a leader, but he could not speak English. As precious time moved on, all became aware of time lost. At the end, I did not see the condition of the load. They left. I should not have signed acceptance at that point, but in my fatigue, I did. What else would I do? Then came further delays. Apparently the gentleman first intended to drive the load, Jaime Mungia, was delayed with other assignments. So another driver was named and perhaps started the drive. I did not see that driver nor meet him before he left the area (Carson? Torrance?) Jaime ended up taking over, I can only assume, because he was the one who arrived in Sedona. And he was very helpful at that point. His helper was not experienced but was willing to try. All this time I did not know about Wheaton being the primary company. I believe one thing that happened was poor communication with the staff in Indianapolis. I prepared and mailed a complete document with photos; it needed to be sent by US Mail or another service. I heard it was faxed to Inthem, which would destroy all the work I did. Photos could not have been in proper places, and so on Finally the local person (the "Wood Doctor) in Sedona came to review my claims. I tried to show him the extent of the problems. His report to them was not supportive of me. The letters I received from Michelle Borden were dismissive of my claim for $ 1956. Instead, I received nothing. I highly recommend this company! I had heard all kinds of horror stories about moving companies but Carol and her staff were outstanding! Carol was professional (she's been in the business a while and knows her stuff) and went the extra mile to make sure we had as effortless a move as possible. Our literally thousands of lbs. of furnishings made it across country with just a few hiccups. After talking with the friendly staff about filing a claim, she asked to speak with me because she wanted to follow up and see how we were settling in. Leaving our home and moving across country was difficult, but she was helpful and caring, both before and afterwards. The men who loaded the truck are masters at Tetrus. Wow, can they pack a truck! And the guys who unloaded us were terrific and helpful. Big hugs all around when we were done. I think the person that wrote the review before must be from a competing company.
