Our move was especially challenging because there were lots of stairs and some of our extremely big sofas had to be moved from the 3rd floor to the 6th floor since the elevator was too small. The team handled everything professionally and efficiently. One of the most impressive parts was watching them use straps to safely lower our bed frame down to the first floor--they made a difficult task look easy. They came fully prepared with all the necessary moving supplies, including wardrobe boxes, and even provided protective materials for our delicate tiles, making sure everything was properly covered and protected. Recently I was looking for a moving company and this was one of the two companies I requested for a quote. Simple Moving Company called within 5 minutes after I had submitted my request and - no pun intended - simply went with Simple Moving Company. [Price]: This is one of few moving companies that actually post their rates on their website (hourly rate includes tax & basic insurance): * 2 movers and a truck (studio, 1 bedroom or small office) = $119/hr cash or $129/hr credit. Slightly more expensive on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and any date from 28th - 2nd of each month. * 3 movers and a truck (large 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom or medium office) = $159/hr cash or $169/hr credit. * 4 movers and a truck (large 2 bedrooms, 3+ bedroom or large office) = $199/hr cash or $209/hr credit. * There is a 3 hours minimum requirement for a moving job (driving time included). * Please note that rates are slightly more expensive on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and any date from 28th - 2nd of each month. * California has the Double Drive Time law which states the following - for all hourly moves in the State of California, all moving companies are required to charge double drive time if If the distance between the pick up and drop-off locations is more than 10 miles. In my case, I moved for more than 10 miles so per the law the company must charge me 2 hours for the 1-hour driving time. [What's included]: The price include FREE use of the following items & services: blankets & moving pads ($20 each if customers would like to keep them), wardrobe boxes ($20 each if customers would like to keep them), shrink wrap and tape, assembly / reassembly, packing / unpacking, loading / unloading, extra stops, gas, milage, dollies, tools, and straps. [Extra charge]: They offer wooden crates for artwork only (e.g. paintings, framed posters etc.), but they require at least 72-hour notice on exact dimensions for crating & each wooden crate is charged extra $150. There is an extra heavy item charge for items over 300 lbs such as piano, double door fridge, large safe, pool table, etc. I had no extra heavy item and no need for wooden crates so no extra charge on my end. [Experience]: The person on the call was friendly and explained the process in details (including various scenarios for the best saving, arrival time, etc). I was given one-hour arrival time window and the movers actually arrived few minutes earlier than the arrival time window. The whole process took 6.25 hours (approximately 2 hours packing, 2 hours double drive time, and 2 hours unpacking) and movers were friendly & efficient. They moved my bed, bookshelves, TV unit, 43" TV, wardrobe, sofa, coffee table, computer, and chairs all in one fell swoop. I already boxed majority of my smaller items ahead of time to make the whole process even easier. [Conclusion]: It was a great experience and I can see myself using Simple Moving Company again. The group of four men showed up promptly on time, and after a brief overview of what needed to be transported in our three bedroom, two bathroom apartment, and they immediately got started. Since we moved on a Saturday, the rate was a bit more expensive, about $250/hour, but it's well worth the price. But if you want, they can pack everything for you but it's a higher rate. But honestly their rate was reasonable and it was worth every cent! But that wasn't the most amazing thing about them -- I had actually rented two storage units. One unit I had gotten a month ago and only me and my husband moved probably 50% of our stuff. This time I said we are hiring movers and had the get another storage unit as we didn't think it would fit in the current one we had. Okay, all I can say is terrible movers. Took their sweet time loading and unloading. I don't think they loaded the truck well as they had to make 3 trips back to my old house to load more. I think they absolutely could have done it in two. It seemed excessive and a way to keep the bill up. They were sloppy and careless with my furniture. They removed a door that they left off and were gone before putting it back on. One of the movers I had called himself Hercules - and was the lead. He was not great to work with and I felt intimidated. Would NOT use them. I had a full packing/full service move to move out of my 2bed apartment. I did pack a lot ahead of time just because I wanted to make sure I did as much as I could, but we had a *lot* of stuff for two people, making for a more complicated move - Andrey, Ikvol, Rayan, and Yaroslav handled it all. They were friendly, laughed at my dumb jokes, and moved as fast as they could, with no damage to any items that I have found so far. Andrey complimented my rock collection (yes I had actual boxes of rocks), which is one of the highest compliments I can get. The guys helped move furniture and quickly unwrapped whatever was wrapped in plastic, and unpacked the big wardrobe boxes so we wouldn't have to deal with those later. They also took our own boxes (as many as we had unpacked on that day, anyways) for recycling, which I really appreciated. The only notes I have are that the company provided them with a smaller truck than what we used for moving out of the storage unit (which isn't on the guys, it was just what was available to them that day). This resulted in having to make two trips, which added on time and expense. Otherwise though this was a good experience, I would work with these guys again! read more
