The floors now look beautiful -- smooth, even, and consistent -- while still keeping the character of an older house. His workmanship was excellent, the price was very reasonable, and he left the place clean when he was done. He came to my home to inspect the property and after three emails confirming he could, indeed, get the job completed in five days, I mistakingly chose to hire him. On day one he said he didn't know there was concrete under the carpet (why didn't you look when you came to my home to bid the project?) so the cost would be higher than quoted because he would need to purchase plywood. He never mentioned a time delay. Then, the morning of my scheduled return I texted with him to confirm we were on schedule. Johan replied that he was behind schedule with the main bedroom but that my toddler and I could sleep in her room because that room had been completed. When I arrived at my home less than four hours later his employee was putting down a coat of varnish in my daughter's room that burned our eyes to such extreme we had to run out the front door. To shorten a long and horrible experience, I was forced to stay at a hotel, with no notice, for an additional five nights. I returned to my home to find baseboards, doorways (that furniture had been moved through) and wall art severely damaged. After he threatened me I felt obligated to pay him the remainder of the initial quote with no reimbursement for hotel costs even though he had agreed to pay them. I don't understand how his reviews were so positive. Perhaps this is the start of the decline of his business. All he had to do was communicate and this could have been an avoided.
