In this picture he's afraid it's time to go to bed and I'm about to turn it off. He's like "no way mom, give me the remote"

Around four years ago I decided I want to replace my old dark fireplace with a new natural gas insert. After a long day of work I want to hit a remote turn on the fireplace and relax. After pre-shopping and driving myself crazy, I purchased from Heritage knew when they would do a great job. And they did. The best part of purchasing this fireplace, shopping local, we are well known in Kitsap county and will take care of you. Service after the sale! With the phone calls they came back clean it make sure it was adjusted. Perfect. I had a question about putting something back together, Ned was absolutely amazing and emailed me the user guide to my fireplace which I had long since lost. They are the best. I will call for service soon as I want the fan and the flame adjusted, have them double check everything as they should every few years. I found their staff to be incredibly nice, (and patient with me!) the service impeccable, and the product top-notch. I've lived in Silverdale over 30 years and will only use Heritage

It was a moderately difficult installation, and Shaun's careful measurement assured that when the custom unit arrived it fit perfectly.

So, warm milk and ice cream you needed a jackhammer to cut it. We called Bill's and Jake or Jay (sorry my hearing isn't good) answered with a pleasant greeting. He explained that Bill could stop by in a couple of days to diagnose the issue. FANTASTIC! We didn't expect anyone to answer the phone let alone schedule an emergency visit within days. Bill was on time a pleasant event at what we assumed to be the end of his workday. He defrosted the freezer compartment and diagnosed the problem as a bad computer board. The culprit board arrived in a few more days; Bill retired to install it. Everything was back to normal for a few days but Jake/Jay called us to say that they had a second computer board that they had discovered our refer requires to operate properly. Bill was out again and installed the second board. Amazing follow through and caring service. Above and beyond expectations. The value? Well considering the cost of a similar new refrigerator we spent about 10%. If we get another 17 years out of our fridge that is an amazing value. And, even if we only get 5 more years, that's all a new refer is expected to last. Beyond a doubt Bill helped us defer a substantial cost and we kept another old fridge out of the landfill or ocean.

During that…read morevisit, the technician showed me the failed part -- the main control panel -- and explained it would need to be replaced. After receiving their estimate, I was shocked. Appliance ER quoted me $1,935.02 to replace a part that I was able to purchase directly from Bertazzoni for $249.95. This is not a complicated repair. The control panel is a plug-and-play unit. The installation instructions are straightforward and publicly available: Turn off the breaker, unplug the unit, take a photo of the wiring, swap the panel, and reconnect. That's it. No sealed system work. No refrigerant. No special tools. No advanced labor. Yet the quote reflects nearly $1,700 in markup for a part swap that takes minutes. What's most concerning is that the technician physically showed me the panel during the diagnostic, so I was able to verify exactly what part was needed and how simple the replacement is. This felt far less like a repair estimate and far more like an attempt to take advantage of a homeowner who doesn't know they can order the part themselves. I understand companies need to make money. I do not understand a 7-8x markup on a plug-in component with minimal labor. If you use Appliance ER, make sure you price the part yourself before approving any work. It may save you thousands.
