I know people love to post their negative experiences here, but I've only had positive and I think it's important to share these as well. I have had two lovely experiences at this location. To give context, I am in my late 20s and am by no means, "wealthy." When I go in, I always thank the doorman and make it a point to be patient, courteous, and always respectful to the staff. I first came in with a Herbag I inherited that needed to be fixed (hardware missing, and was in dire need of a cleaning). They were happy to send it off to the spa and we chatted for around 30 minutes. The staff was approachable and very respectful to me. I didn't feel like they were intimidating or condescending whatsoever. I went back in recently to pick up my bag after it was repaired and they greeted me again with smiles, and kind words. I was again, chatted up, bought some Twillies for my bag, and my friend and I browsed the store. I know others have had negative experiences, and I feel silly now being worried and scared before my first trip. While their experiences are still valid, don't let it scare you from enjoying a potentially positive experience here (esp if you are like me and truly love the brand). Looking forward to the day I finish medical school and can build my collection of their amazing products. read more

I've always thought that Hermes merchandise was meant for an older crowd because their designs lack originality and look like "old lady bags". This being the case, my mom is 50-years-old and does like to shop there. I've been to a few Hermes stores with her around the country and I can attest to the stiff atmosphere and find it overwhelmingly disorientating. In the past, she has egged me to buy their products of which I refuse-- I don't see any joy in buying merch from employees who look me up and down every time we walk into the store. It's not proper, and its rude. I guess its not any different in this Boston store either, where I just received a phone call from a very upset mother because she happened to be visiting and was completely ignored for service. All she wanted was to pick up a pair of sandals. She had mentioned that she came in wearing casual clothing w/o any designer wear or jewelry. You would think this would not be an issue to at least get help purchasing an item. It's disheartening to receive a phone call like this from any mother, let alone your own. From this day forward we will NEVER buy from Hermes again, and we will be forthcoming with our friends to do the same. I felt the urge to write this review to compel tourists or locals to boycott this store, and spend your hard earned money elsewhere. Hermes' style is very inconsistent to me. I think they're china (esp the tea sets) are so ugly but the ties, scarves, and desk sets are exquisite. I used to have this habit of buying my boy friend pocket squares ($100 which is an amazing deal considering paper at this store costs $90) and then he was like, "Joyce, I'm not gay. Stop it with the gay ass pocket squares." Anyway, the staff is amazingly helpful and when I got lost and scared in their HUGE selection of ties, they gave me a tie catalogue to muse over. I bought saddle soap (what the F is that?) cause it was only $30 and used it to hose down the horse I do not have...so basically it's just sitting with the pile of other useless shit I have to give away when someone's unhappy bday comes along. read more

Five stars for their products - quality and perfection. This location's service? Sadly I cannot say the same. My parents wired me money for the Clic-Clac for my birthday this past March. I was SO excited to finally buy this damn bangle! I walked in, knowing what I wanted, basically ready to hand money over to the SA. The first man I approached was sweet and very helpful (later found out he's one of the managers.) He passes me off to an SA and tells me she'll help me track it down (since the specific color and metal combination wasn't available in their store.) As the SA is about to dial out, she tells me "They might not pick up their phones because we don't pick up our phones on Saturdays." BREAK CHECK, what?! I work in retail.. Not just any retail, I've worked in LUXURY retail. That is unacceptable. And even if it is true, don't tell your customers that! So the other store doesn't have time to check for it, but the system says they have 5+ so she tells me: "They're too busy to check right now but I can charge it and if they end up not having it, we'll just refund your money to you." (In my head: I would HOPE you'd give my money back to me..." I ask her roughly about how many days it would take to get here and she said by Wednesday. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday... FInally Wednesday! I'm expecting a phone call from them all day and.. class lets out at 2:30p and I'm wondering, did my money get refunded? Did they not have it? I work on Newbury and I know FedEx/UPS usually delivers around 12 noon to 1pm. I give Hermes a call and not only is the woman who answered the phone rude as hell (immediately picks up the phone and as soon as I tell her I need to check on the status of a charge send, she keeps repeating "Who's your SA? Who's your SA?") once my SA does pick up the phone she says "Oh yeah, it's here. I'm looking at it. It came in today." ... Were you planning on calling me at all? No? Okay, I mean that's fine. I'll just let that $600 bangle sit there until you feel comfortable enough to let me come pick it up. This has turned me off to the brand.. I'm considering finding an SA in other cities that will just ship to me so I don't have to deal with this garbage customer service. Hermes on Arlington, you're in Boston. You're not on Madison Ave, you're not on the Las Vegas Strip.. Treat your customers better. read more

I am writing this review because I literally just awoke from a dream where me and Coco (Chanel, obvs.) had a slumber party and were both swathed in hermes scarves and dripping in Cartier. Apparently, this is what I have dreams about. Anyway, I love this Hermes. The salespeople are all so knowledgeable about the products and they don't dismiss me when I have questions about the cheapest things in the store. Also, they don't follow me around like I am going to steal 10 Birkin bags and then go sell them on the street in Chinatown. I really love it in here because everything is so incredibly beautiful. The people are beautiful, the paper is beautiful and the scent coming from Exhale spa next door is also a nice touch. So, gents the next time you want to buy the lady (or the other gent) something special that they will remember for the rest of their lives, buy it here. xo read more

I knew what I wanted prior to going in, purchase a Scarf and Scarf ring. I wasn't sure exactly which Scarf, however, the staff was very helpful showing me several. It is extremely expensive but keep in mind they sometimes have end of season sales.....where things get marked down to very expensive versus out-of-control, over-the-top expensive. This is also a great place to get a very special gift item. A leather bound notebook for a recent grad......beautiful home items for a wedding gift.....and of course ties for dad, prof. grandad, hubby...whomever! And the fragrances are all the most amazing smelling substances I have ever placed my nostrils upon! Even if you are not going to shop, pop in to soak in the excellence and class. read more

When you go inside of an Hermes, it is mostly for the experience, unless you are one of those fortunate people who are able to spend the Hermes type of money often. We did go inside to peruse the scarves and perhaps make an accessories purchase. Unfortunately, and also fortunately for my credit card, there were not as huge as selection of scarves and accessories as the NY store has. Hermes smells fresh and also is very colorful which is one of the reasons why I love it. Like Risa X said in her review, the service isn't as great as the quality and perfection of their products. We were in the store for about 30 minutes and were not greeted once and they were not very busy. I think even if I found something I liked, I may have noted it and ordered it online or gone to another Hermes and purchased it. read more

I placed a christmas order December 1st as a gift and today was checking on why the order was never shipped. The order was CANCELLED for NO REASON and no one bothered to contact me about the cancellation. I was charged $615 and you would think that a luxury band store would offer better customer service. This place is great, once you find a parking spot.... haha The sales associates here don't hassle you the whole time you're browsing which I like. I bought my first birkin here as a present and got all of the information and help I needed from a very kind staff. Any question about a bag I asked got a very detailed answer, and even a short VERY interesting history lesson about the product. Very cool bonus, almost makes me want to research the company further and write an essay about them or something haha. Perfect quality items, and perfect quality help! What more could you ask for? Great scarves and ties. I bought the very last cashmere orange scarf from the store. It wasn't in the showroom but the other sales overheard my conversation and mentioned that there was one left in the store room. It was a bit expensive but as a splurge purchase and will keep my menagerie of Hermes ties company. Oh, the store also has pretty decent leather goods. TOTALLY hell & heaven comparison treatment with Hermes Costa Mesa, CA even though I've never been to hell or heaven, but I read about them ;) I wrote about the treatment I got from Hermes Costa Mesa's Lady, I didn't ask for a red carpet to be rolled upon my arrival, just a smile, welcoming gesture is good enough. Any whooo, I came here was greeted by a Joan, who was very helpful. She treated me like a customer not a solicitor like the other one. I was looking at Evelyne, then debating on size and colors, she went back & forth showing me what I asked for. She was not pushy at all and just being helpful. That's why I gave 5 stars because to me it was As good as it gets! Hermes should hire more people like her and hunt down people who deters customers. read more

I've just come back to this Hermes after a good stretch away. I was immediately reminded upon entry of the classically professional warmth carried by all the Hermes folk in this shop. It's the sort of calm, warm, reserved, but quite happy & well-practiced hospitality and service I expect at Ritz-Carltons & The Seaport in Boston's Waterfront district, but rarely experience in retail shops. &, as always, the product...tout à fait délicieux! read more

JB is a super friendly and sweet sales person. He took the time to explain absolutely everyone to me and made it an incredible experience. Obviously the merchandise and store is gorgeous, but in my mind it's really the service and personalities that make a big difference. If you go here definitely ask for JB. I don't know why there are so many negative reviews here. The staffs here are all friendly- if being friendly means having smiles and sweet greetings to you, yes maybe not for all of them- and they are willing to help you as much as they can. If you think staff is hanging around not helping you, they usually have appointments coming up. So unfortunately they can't start helping you at the moment. I don't expect "nice smile" from them, I would prefer their professionalism towards finding what I want. Their stock is very limited especially bags, so going there first time and asking for high demand bags, it won't happen. I am a regular customer, and I always make appointments in advance. And the shopping time usually takes at least an hour. I'm sure each of them has many customers like me. I have seen a new customer waiting for help, but she had to wait until someone is done with the appointment. So I hope you don't get mad but be patient. read more

I'm not much of a shopper. I hate thinking about clothes so my entire wardrobe consists of charcoal grey, black, and white. Hence my love of scarves. A beautiful silk scarf can easily dress up or add a splash of colour to any daytime shirt and pant combo. The patterns choices are varied (from fanciful to contemporary), the colour palates exquisite, and they're timeless. The Boston store is one of the smaller Hermes locations. They have a decent scarf collection but it's not nearly as exciting as shopping in Paris where the choices are overwhelming and makes a girl's heart go pitter patter. I agree that the sales staff is not always the most attentive lot and depending on who you get, he/she can have an air of snobbery but I'm not here to make friends, just to buy myself a pretty treat. read more

I asked to see some in the display cases and he made me take the one off that I was considering before I tried on another. I left my phone at the Boston Hermes store yesterday shortly before they closed. When I discovered the problem half an hour later, I rushed back to discover the doors locked. As I walked back to my car, the manager who was well on his way home rushed down the street when he happened to recognize me. He was absolutely wonderful and spent a considerable amount of his personal time helping me when it would have been so easy to just keep walking as we so often do. All the staff there were gracious, generous and kind. I told him he must have recognized me by the gorgeous new scarf I was wearing. Quality merchandise quality people. read more

I had recently gone in to purchase another Evelyn purse , in which I had ordered the first one on Hermes.com. With stepping inside this store I had felt the tense vibe-- which we expect in a high end retail location, but this was just unwelcoming and rather insulting. After having walked around a bit and browsed-- I was not once acknowledged or been asked for any help with anything. I was in casual street clothes, and I have a very good feeling this is why I was not treated with the upmost importance as other customers that had walked in after me. Hermes just oozes class; the staff is great, the products are of incredible quality, if you are going to buy anything made by Hermes, this is the only place to buy it. The quality of what they sell (it must be mentioned again) really stands out, from their bags to scarves I don't believe there is a brand that competes with them (especially those belonging to LVMH) This is a great place to pick up nice gifts (scarves) when you are down to the wire (happen far too often!); the staff has been superb in walking me through items to buy while unable to make it into the store (very good at putting out a few different items that fit your requirements- if you are in a real rush). They also have beautiful neckties (about 150$) They do have the standard Kelly Bags in stock (they have one or two on the floor, and many more in the back), the higher end models (ie. the exotic design-alligator) can be difficult to find. A new Kelly bag is nearly 6 grand (I believe the lowest costing version in 5,900USD- it's cheaper here than in Paris!); if you find one online for anything less, it's a safe bet that it's a fake. It is also possible to get a Birkin bag without the silly "waiting list". and they happen to have the best window designer in Boston. ::other:: -parking can be difficult (there is a T stop directly outside of the store) -around the corner from the Ritz and the Four Seasons -everything you would expect from a Hermes store read more

I recently moved to Boston and was excited for the newly renovated store to open. My husband and I stopped by shortly after it opened and although the store is beautiful the service was absolutely terrible! It took forever to even get a sales associate to help us and when we finally did I was shocked by his dismissive, snobby attitude. I decided to write it off as a fluke or re-opening pains and have a handbag that was in need of a little TLC so we made another stop by a week later. The woman who took my bag and wrote up the paperwork was even worse, she was actually rude. My husband remarked once we were outside "that is was the most unwelcoming store" he had ever been in. The newly renovated store just opened and I visited it on a quite Wednesday morning at 1030AM. The store is beautiful with the addition of the 2nd floor. There was only one other customer in the store while I was there and plenty of sales staff. No one made the effort to greet me or asking me if I needed help. I was well dressed wearing a few of Hermes' pieces including bag and accessories but no one even looked to acknowledge me. This is extremely off putting as I am a regular client at the store but since my go to SA has left the boutique a few months ago I haven't been back as much. The customer service at the boutique is just disappointing and beyond cold. I'm so turned off by this trip that I refuse to go back to Hermes and spend any more money on a brand that doesn't appreciate its clients. read more

Shopping here was a horrible experience! When I went into the store the sales associates were all busy helping other customers. However there were several people standing behind the counter and so I went up there. They all seemed busy and I did not want to interrupt so I stood there and cleared my throat a few times waiting for someone to say they would help me in a minute. After 5 entire minutes of this someone finally looks up and asks me if I'm all set. I say no, I would like to look at your bracelets. She gives me this snobby look as if she doesn't have any time to help me but proceeds to show me the bracelet. The only reason this place is getting two stars is because at least she tried very hard to find the bracelet I wanted. Well, it wasn't in stock but a store in another state had it. She typed up my address in the computer and assured me it would arrive in 2 days. However, she types my address wrong and after pointing it out to her she tells me she will fix it. Well, the package did not arrive! I call the store to get some tracking information and I am told that only the person who sold me the bracelet could give it to me and that all I could do was leave her a message because she was speaking with a customer. After no response for 2 hours, I call again, only to be told she is out at lunch at 6PM at night. By the time the store closed, she did not call me back. I resorted to calling fedex, who told me that the package had the incorrect address, so surprise surprise, the sales clerk did NOT fix my address after typing it wrong. And here I am, STILL without my bracelet and still have not gotten a call back yet. read more

Hermes has great items and most of their stores have decent quality customer service. Except for the one in Boston. I do not dress in particularly expensive designer threads for shopping, but I do occasionally like "designer" items, especially Hermes scarfs and perfumes. The sales lady refused to help me after repeated attempts to make eye contact, and when other people asked her for assistance, she directed them to wait till another sales person(who appeared to be on break, outside) came back in. Needless to say, she didn't get any money from me for her snotty attitude. This is the second time I have been treated poorly by this store. Another time, I bought a perfume there and paid cash. The clerk was astonished and indicated that he didn't think I could afford it. Hermes may be expensive, but it is never classy to indicate that you think your customers are poor, especially if it's because they paid in cash. I figured it was a bad day for him. Apparently it's just how the Boston store treats people. That being said, Hermes is a nice designer brand, and most other stores are quite friendly, and do not presume their customers are too poor to shop there. read more

I am incredibly surprised by the negative customer service reviews. They seemed more than willing to take my money. I was in and out, $2000.00 poorer mind you, but Christmas shopping for my wife was done in 15 minutes including packaging the gifts in the iconic boxes that women seem to love. I had a really terrible experience at this store. It takes a decent amount of time to save for something at Hermes, but after months of saving, I had finally picked out the scarf, belt, and potentially a bag to get for a year of hard work. I had come in from California to meet up with my sister to make the purchase, so it was a special experience for us. In the past I've usually limited my purchases here to ties for the bf, but this was supposed to be a celebratory purchase for me. We show up at the store, and our salesperson must have been new -- I believe her name was Anne Marie? First off, she just stood there and didn't greet us. When we finally asked for her help on the belt I wanted to buy she was completely unhelpful. They didn't have the belt in stock, fine, but then we had to push her to tell us how to get the belt, and to take my measurements so that I could save time next time I came in to get the belt, for which my sister told me where to measure, not her. Then she kept trying to get me to get the belt from another store, even though my family is in the area and could have picked it up for me? My sister THEN had to ask her to give us her card so we could call to follow up since we already knew exactly what size and style we wanted?! I'm sorry, but why are we working so hard to give this girl a commission? I just felt like she purposely was making things difficult for us -- a sale to a customer who knows exactly what they want shouldn't be this hard. We then left her at the belt section and looked for another sales associate to help us out. I'll be d***ned if a girl like that is going to earn a commission on my hard earned money. Unfortunately, the only other person who was free was the security guard, so I think at this point Anne Marie tried to salvage a sale by helping us find the scarf we wanted. At this point I was done with the girl, but my sister is a sucker for beautiful things, so she gave her another chance. She specifically asked for a scarf with a horse and carriage, and the girl kept showing her scarves with horse heads / large horses?! Finally i interjected and said "Can you please clarify -- do you have no horse and carriage scarves in stock?" For which she said no -- she may have mentioned it before she started showing us scarves, but after that she really should have asked what else my sister liked before showing us hideous horse scarves. Just really poor salesmanship, a terrible experience. For mid-day Saturday I would have expected better, Hermes. I almost wish I hadn't had to write this review since it made me have to emotionally experience it all over again. The girl may have been pretty, but to get people to hand over a couple G's I think she should have been more proactive, considerate, and at least friendly. Seriously makes me just want to buy more LV stuff which kind of sickens me since I secretly hate LV, but at least when I leave I feel happy and well taken care of, not insulted and mistreated. read more

This is where the obsession started. The company I worked for in Boston launched this showroom in 2004, and it was fantastic. Only having heard about Hermes in fashion magazines, I was introduced to their ribbed scarf in a fashion show we put on, and then I was obsessed. The Boston showroom is my favorite so far... it is a nice size with apparel, bags, scarves (oh the scarves), china and small leather goods. I recommend the tie's for a more corporate look - attorney's, I-bankers, etc... as they are a bit more traditional than stylish. I love their enamel bracelets and fragrances as well... Timeless, elegant and truly sophisticated design, Hermes items are those you will keep for a lifetime. The staff in the Boston store is not pretentious at all, and always happy to show any item in the store. read more

Not sure why anyone complained about the sales staff. I found them to be super friendly and nice, and all I was doing was exchanging a belt I had purchased online.
