    Birria Tacos

My friends and I wanted to try Hermanito to celebrate a special event, and we ended up coming during their happy hour. I ordered their Birria Tacos, which was a decent price and came out immediately. They were thin, and the perfect amount of crispy, juicy, and cheesy. We also shared a mezcal margarita pitcher for the table, and it stood out well! It was smoky, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink. The drink paired well with the tacos and was perfect to share for a group of five people.

Hermanito is a Mexican-Japanese fusion restaurant with good brunch and happy hour specials. Typical Sawtelle parking options: Street Parking, neighborhood and nearby lots. For the food: Come with a group and split dishes family style. Here are my favorite dishes: - Churro Waffle (must order) - Hangar Steak + Eggs - Spicy Pescado Tacos - Birria Tacos - Shaved Brussels Sprouts

This place is right on sawtelle so iykyk whats up w parking! Street parking. This spot is small plates only. Modern little spot with not too much seating but we came at a good time and it wasnt busy Ordered a bunch from here oysters, calamari, and tacos. Ingredients were quality Service was ok I recommend if you're looking to drink and eat something small.

Hermanito is one of those hip spots that you can bring friends to or a dim lit romantic date. It's one of the few spots in Sawtelle if you want a going out, trendy aesthetic. It has a nice vibe and the service is great. The food is good quality, I especially liked the scallops. My go-to cocktail is the mezcal margarita and they make it not too sweet. Parking is street around here so can be difficult when it's packed. A lot of walkable spots around here so things to do after like if you want boba after.

Was in the area and stumbled on this place. Has the potential to be 5 stars if they hired a little more help. The poor bartender was very pleasant but was swamped with orders coming from the bar and the restaurant. She was apologetic since it was taking so long. I was very pleasant to see the bar was stocked with all additive free tequila. I ordered a spicy margarita and it was delicious. I wanted to order another but by the time she got back to me, I had already finished my meal. I ordered the mushroom queso. It was really good. I also ordered the shrimp tacos. I think they could've had a little more shrimp on them but they were not bad. I will definitely give this place another chance.

Pricey, for Mexican food, I can get tacos in the valley for fraction of its price. But....its tasty good!!! I tell ya! Good service and nice location, I love the vibe! But its patas, if your hungry , this isnt the place, just saying lol

Yellow Fin Tuna Handroll (4 pieces)

Trendy Japanese-Mexican fusion on Sawtelle. Here's everything I ordered for 2 during Happy Hour: 2/5 Yellow Fin Tuna Handroll - Edible, but did not taste like anything. 5/5 Crispy Calamari - The chickpea flour gives the calamari an incredible texture. 3/5 Flautas - While the flauta itself is well done, the avocado lime crema could've been more citrusy for better balance. 5/5 Pescado Tacos - These rival my favorite tacos from La Jolla. 5/5 Birria Tacos - The star of the show. Chunks of tender braised beef and queso in a housemade tortilla. The consomme was perfect. Overall, I'm giving Hermanito 4 stars because $90 for Happy Hour with 1 alc drink is definitely pricey. Service was attentive, although the pacing of the food was faster than expected. I really enjoyed the laidback atmosphere and comfortable seating. They have a pup-friendly patio too. I'll come back for more tacos!

We had a friend who moved to the Bay and was visiting town again, so we decided to hit up a spot that our friends in Sawtelle had good things to say about! GETTING HERE AND PARKING: Very tricky, as Sawtelle always is. You'll probably have to drive around for a bit and walk a bit WHAT WE ORDERED: Sticky Ribs Diver Scallops Hand Roll Flautas Truffle Mac & Cheese Hamachi hand roll THE FOOD: Honestly, it was just okay to me. The sticky ribs were pretty tough compared to ribs you might get elsewhere. While flavorful, the sauce was pretty salty. The truffle mac and cheese was also a bit underwhelming as well - again, very salty, though the truffle was nice and not too overpowering as other truffle mac and cheeses tend to be. The stars of the show for me were the hand rolls and the flautas. The hand rolls were very fresh and was a nice concept being able to roll it on your own. I had lower expectations for the flautas but they were really nice - the potato really contrasted well with the crispy outside. SERVICE: AMAZING - best service I've had in a while! Our server (forgot to get her name) was very helpful, especially with us taking a while to order. The host also was very accommodating, even letting me sit down first despite my party not being there yet. VIBES: Darker lighting, but great for gathering up some friends and possibly date night. BOTTOM LINE: The food was a bit below my expectations and kind of expensive for what it was, so not 100% sure I would go again. But I wouldn't be mad if I were invited for a date out here. The service really made this a good experience.

    Crispy Calamari!

I came here one afternoon and easily parked in front of the restaurant! For the appetizers, I ordered the nachos and calamari. The Nachos were surrounded by chipotle cheese, pico, crema, cotija, guacamole, scallions, and escabeche. I remember how crunchy and flavorful each bite was. I must have been so hungry since I finished the entire plate before moving on to the next dish. The Crispy Calamari, which was buttermilk-marinated had chick pea flour, garlic chives, oil cured chiles, and pickled onion remoulade. This was a fantastic dish also and I was able to eat it with my next item to mix it up! The Birria Tacos were a major hit that had chile braised chuck, salsa de queso, consommé, and serrano pickled onions. These were savory and incredible! I literally finished all my plates and what helped was the affordable pricing of each item. I would love to come back to try other items on the menu, too, especially since the service was outstanding as well!

Came here for my birthday dinner with friends and we had a great time. The restaurant is on Sawtelle and is a fusion blend of Japanese and Mexican. The server was very attentive to us all night and made sure we ordered an appropriate amount of food for our group of 4. We got the Calamari, Tempura Asparagus, Skirt Steak Tacos, and Pork Katsu dish. Our group also got some cocktails and the Yuzu one was a big hit. In my opinion the Calamari and Pork were both really heavy on the breading and made me feel borderline lethargic. That said the Pork Katsu was a very sizable dish - it could definitely be shared among 5-7 people with no problem. The Tempura Asparagus and Skirt Steak Tacos were the crowd favorites. If I went back and did it again I would recommend ordering more tacos because the Skirt Steak was so good!!

Hermanito is such a fun neighborhood spot. Parking is definitely a pain, so plan ahead or be prepared to circle, but once you're inside it's absolutely worth it. The food is really delicious and perfect for sharing. Think small bites and tapas style plates. I especially love their Taco Tuesday specials and the happy hour pricing, which makes it an easy go-to with friends. The patio is small but super cute and quaint. They also have merch for sale.

    Chilaquiles verdes con chorizo

We randomly found this spot because we were in the area, and I'm so glad we did! It's a really nice little spot with such a cute aesthetic. The chilaquiles verdes con chorizo were actually really good, and I loved that they made them with green tortillas -- such a fun touch! The service was great too, very friendly and attentive. It's also a pretty big place, so I'd definitely come back here for dinner.

    Potato flautas
    Janelle L.

Made reservations here to throw my dog a "celebration of life". We had 40 some odd people show up including his vets and vet techs. The initial contact was somewhat slow but they eventually worked it out. The staff for the party was great, they took care of us VERY well. We were in the private party patio room in the back. It was PERFECT for our needs. The food was amazing, I pre ordered for my large party per their request. The food is a Mexican-Japanese fusion. Make sure you try the potato flautas, everyone commented on how good it was. Street parking here is TERRIBLE. It's Sawtelle, it's busy. There is a small adjacent parking lot, I can't remember what the charge was but there are attendants waiting to take your money. There's a parking structure up the street at the light, on the northeast corner at the next stoplight north of the restaurant.

Most of the bars are dive bars in downtown Santa Monica, and parking is quite accessible for this place. So I'd recommend for that reason. In terms of the drinks, I'm a huge fan of cocktail but I would say their menu selections are a bit limited. Nothing in the signature cocktail looks interesting to me, so I had the bartender make a classic cocktail instead. He's very attentive and friendly, didn't take forever to get a drink either, no attitude. Drinks aren't watered down either. Nice! You come here to grab quick drinks when you don't feel like being at a loud dive bar in the area, it's in a hotel but not too upscale, no strict dress code. Music is not loud and they have couches and booth if bar table if not your thing, you don't have to yell or pretend you hear everything to hold a conversation here (lol). ** Keep in mind 20% gratuity is automatically included in bill, it's my first time here. But I think I've other spots I'd prefer to be in, even at Santa Monica. Wouldn't be self-motivated to come back because there are better places that specialises mixology, and there are also better upscale hotel bars to be at.
