Lemon poppyseed cake with lemon curd
    Kacey C.

Got reservation through rest for 6:30. Owner was the one to greet us and seat us at our table. Our waiter was Glenn- he was great! Everyone was really kind and attentive. Drinks were good. My "the selfie" was on the sweeter side but very delicious strawberry flavor. It took us awhile to get our drinks but we understand they're still getting into the rhythm of things as a new business. We started with the muhammara dip with flatbread and the Big Sur salad (forgot to take a photo of salad). Both were delicious. Salad tasted very fresh and refreshing - loved that it was lightly dressed. The lamb chops were also exceptional - great flavor from the wood burning grill. Loved the creaminess of the risotto and the freshness of the vegetables inside. The lemon poppyseed cake was also really good - especially the curd and meringue that came with it. Our meal came out to around $170 with 18% gratuity included. Can't wait to return and try more from their menu.

The food was outstanding -- truly exceeded all expectations. I left feeling energized and refreshed afterward. Everything is farm-to-table, organic, and made without seed oils, which made such a difference. The dill on the octopus enhanced the flavor perfectly. The sand dollar plate melted in your mouth, and the capers added the perfect touch. The branzino was prepared perfectly with amazing flavors throughout, and the short rib completely fell apart and was incredibly rich in flavor. Highly recommend this spot. The owner also makes the entire place feel incredibly warm and welcoming.

Mezze platter and MUST TRY POTATO WEDGES

BEST experience! Food: 11/10 do not miss the halloumi, salmon and especially the POTATO WEDGES!! Ambiance: it's the perfect balance of modern, natural, upscale, but also cozy. Service: everyone was so nice and accommodating. They explained all questions and effortlessly handled a large group. Wine: exceptional Health: they don't use seed oils 10/10 The owner came by to check on us. He really seems to care about guest experience which is so refreshing. Definitely give this place a try!

My experience at Big Sur Grill was outstanding, I was greeted by the owner Joe and seated promptly at my scheduled time of my reservation. I was treated to the VIP treatment, I was given. Tour of the restaurant, the kitchen the grill the bar and found the place to be quaint there is even a tree inside the rear seating area. The windows facing the street open for an outdoor feeling with out being outside. The ambiance is to die for. The bar has a pretty good selection of tequila and a decent bourbon selection as well not to leave out any other spirits but that's what I prefer. Now down to the food, I was offered a sample of the beeef short ribs and they were tender and flavorful, Itvwas explained that they go thru a 3 day preparation and cooking process, I cook very welll but would be hard pressed to reproduce those beef short ribs and the au jus. I had the burata salad which I could eat every day, and the second course was the grilled octopus nice char tender and chewy and seasoned to perfection. The butter beans I could eat as a solo meal but it was a side definetly a standout side dish that could be offered as an entree of it was offered as a larger size. The main course was the filet mignon which was cooked to perfection med rare/ Pittsburgh Char. I only wish I live closer. I appreciate good food and a good vibe, I was not compensated for this review and paid for my meal and I don't really do many reviews but felt compelled to do this one.

This is a MUST for anyone who loves genuinely good food. Not only are the dishes made without seed oils, they are also farmers market fresh and grass fed, wood fire grilled so you get that delicious wood fired flavor. We used to frequent the previous restaurant Jonah's and that was also a testament to the incredible ownership. Service was quick, friendly and attentive, additionally, the ambiance is romantic, dreamy and upscale. We can't wait to return! Shout out Joseph for the hospitality.

Gorgeous restaurant such a beautiful ambiance we got a few drinks and tried an array of appetizers before we had our main dishes. Service was excellent the waiter was very attentive and recommended the best dishes. I will be back for the cookies and milk

    Beautiful salad

We have been fans of Big Sur Bakery for many years since it opened up North. Having now opened their new restaurant in Santa Monica we were very excited to experience their new creation. The food, service and atmosphere he and his team created were exceptional. Chef Phillip is immensely talented creating dishes that are locally sourced and cooked perfectly. His cooking technique is a reflection of years of experience and care. His team welcome you into their home and it feels warm, inviting and comfortable, the same as it did at his place in Big Sur up North. This magic had us returning to his Big Sur Restaurant for well over a decade while visiting Big Sur. It will now have us returning to his new restaurant just a few minutes from our home in Venice. We had an incredible dinner, cocktails and desserts and will be back again soon. Incredible meal. We are thrilled he and his team have brought their passion to share with our community. Definitely a must to experience and an incredible addition to the neighborhood.

It was my first time here, and I'm so glad I discovered this place! The seafood was incredibly fresh, and we honestly enjoyed every dish we ordered. The highlight for me was definitely the oysters -- they were so good that I had to order a second round . Another standout was the steamed mussels in white wine and garlic sauce. The mussels were huge, juicy, and packed with flavor. I was also very impressed by the miso black cod. It came with mushrooms in a rich miso sauce that paired perfectly with rice. Everything tasted comforting and well-balanced. Our server was also very thoughtful and friendly. He split the clam chowder into four smaller portions for our group, which made it much easier to share. One thing to note: the seafood market opens early, but the restaurant itself opens at 11 AM. And if you end up loving the fish from your meal, you can actually buy the same fresh marinated fish directly from the market to take home. Such a cool concept!

After this first experience, this place is about a solid three stars for me. I may come back again if in Santa Monica... I am still a bit under the weather and drove here because I wanted some kind of seafood soup. They offer three different kinds of soups which I appreciated! There is NE clam chowder, Manhattan clam chowder and a fish chowder. Since I dont always see fish chowder on the menu, I ordered a small bowl. I wanted a larger bowl and a place to sit down and eat it but the place was packed for lunch and I didnt feel like grabbing a spot at their bar as I needed to get back on the road, so just went with the small (and I am glad I did - read on to see why). They have a funny system here because you only order their menu items from a cashier in the back, but then take a number if you want fresh seafood. I wanted to try their Hawaiian style poke and cashier had me go and grab a number. I grabbed a number and it wasn't busy so I was served immediately. For a 1/4 lb of Hawaiian poke, it was about $9.50. Whats also strange is that I grabbed my soup (did not pay for it in the back), and my Hawaiian poke and then paid up front. Everything came close to $20. I sat in my car, (which thank goodness, this seafood market has its own parking lot, so that was greatly appreciated), and dug into my soup. Unfortunately, the soup was pretty bland and needed a bit more salt. But, I will say that the ingredients used in the fish chowder were all very fresh, and fish wasnt overcooked, but it needed to be seasoned more. Hawaiian poke was great, excellent taste. Overall, a so so experience, I would have liked better scenery to eat my food being I was very close to the beach and wished I had a more seasoned fish chowder. I could be convinced to come back and give it a second try, but I think I might prefer to visit Malibu Seafood which isnt too far from here and has great ocean views.

I don't think they take reservations. You can dine there or do take away. If you can eat there it is fun. The place is super cute with lots of tables and it is clean. The service is very good and the servers seem happy. All of their food is great. We love their calamari and get it every time we go. All the seafood is super. Now, this looks like a mid range place, but if has fine dinning prices, but it is worth it because it is all so great and much of it fresh. We love their seafood platter which is snow crab claws, fresh oysters on the half shell, tail on shrimp, Peruvian scallops, green-lipped mussels, mini Mexican shrimp, mignonette, garlic aioli, classic cocktail sauce & lemons. Grilled oysters are hard to find and boy do they make them well. They are 1/2 dozen oysters grilled with garlic butter & parmesan. They even have great fish tacos. We love the grilled Mahi Mahi which is a taco with cabbage, pico de gallo, chipotle lime aioli It comes with white rice & black beans. Everything there is great. Have the best time.

The ambiance is beautifully done, modern coastal. Perfect for a comfortable but elevated dinner. We started with the bread service, chili wontons, and gem lettuce. The gem lettuce was fresh and simple, reminiscent of Jon & Vinny's in the best way. For entrees we had the butter shrimp and Scottish salmon, both really good, no complaints. The Caesar was not great, and no one mentioned it comes with whole anchovies on top. I'm fine with anchovy in the dressing, but the actual pieces were a lot. The chicken karaage was okay, again really heavy, but the sauce was the best part. We also tried the taco special which was just alright, nothing memorable. Taste wise, our favorites were the caesar salad and prawns. The oysters were not good and were actually quite fishy tasting. The celery mash served with the scallops was also meh. Note this place is really small. Their indoors section only fits like 10 people and they can't take large groups indoors either. Unfortunately, due to the price and food poisoning, we will not be returning here. It's so so important for a seafood focused restaurant to have good quality especially if they are charging that kind of price for tiny plates.
