Worst repair shop EVER and that's putting it mildly. They had the vehicle from Feb 27 and did not return until mid May only putting in a timing chain and rebuilt transmission. They took all my 84 year old mother's savings a couple thousand dollars at a time until they took it all. They took $16,800 to pay for timing chain and transmission on a 2011 car worth between $200 to $900. WARNING: stay away from this auto "shop". RIPOFF Notice they either have 1 star or 5 stars. The one stars appear to be local people and the five stars from out of state or far away from the area of his shop. READ the one star reviews. He never provided an estimate of the vehicle costs and the receipt was extremely vague. Labor $5000, not how many hours worked, nothing. STEER CLEAR! read more

Rare to find good men these days, but the guys at Herman's helped my mom out when she was having trouble getting a tow hitch fixed. They helped her out of the goodness of their hearts and tried to refuse a tip!! Good men. read more

If you want your car back, DO NOT take it to Herman's. He's had our vehicle for THREE YEARS and refuses to complete the work since we pre-paid and were not provided any documentation (that's on us). We experienced many of the same issues of other users, including Herman losing parts the car came with and trying to charge us for the replacements! If negative five stars was an option, that would sum up our experience with Herman's. If you're tempted to dismiss this review, watch his lot for a few months and see for yourself---vehicles rarely move around and almost never leave. read more

I know everyone has their experiences, however, I recently took 2 of my vehicles (1998 and 2006) to Mr. Herman and the vehicles run like they were brand new. Of course everything costs these days but it is not the fault of business trying to survive. My opinion, Mr. Herman is our families go to guy. I know when I get something back from him it is fixed. I had Herman add a trailer plug to my Nissan. He didn't put it near the center of the bumper (as is standard) so I had to make an extension cord to accommodate for going around corners. The lights on trailer didn't work. I assumed it was my extension cord but I noticed that the trailer lights worked fine on other vehicles. So I brought it to a competent mechanic . When he heard Herman had installed the plug he told me it was likely miswired. He checked it out and indeed it was miswired. I wasted a lot of time trying to fix Herman's mistake I would not trust him to do anything more complicated than patching a tire. He deserves a zero rating read more

My Ford 150 was demonstrating concerning issues such as steering difficulties, leakage of fluid, a grating sound in front end, amongst other problems. Herman told me to bring the truck right in, even offered to drive me back home. He assessed the issues immediately, showed me what he had observed, assured that I understood the plan of action, and then proceeded to repair the problems within the next two days. He had to order parts, showed me the worn parts being replaced, and what he was replacing them with. His staff were considerate and polite. I have my truck back, hopefully everything will remain functional. Herman is a thorough mechanic, was courteous to this customer who needed her truck in working order ASAP and did not know all the problems her truck had, only that it sounded graty and didn't drive well. I appreciate having a good mechanic nearby and though I do not want any more problems with this truck, will go to him in the future for regular maintenance. Thankyou Herman. read more

Took a truck in to have breaks checked as it had sat for a prolonged time unused with emergency break engaged. Took two days and when I went in to pick it up I was charged over $300. I asked what had been repaired and was told "nothing", charge was for mechanic time looking into problem. Are you kidding! read more

Herman is a total scam artist! I took my vehicle several times. First time he charged me several hours for a simple diagnostic check. Second time he replaced my serpentine belt and I had to return it several times before they got it right. Last time I took my vehicle in and they charged me five times what other shops would have all while leading me to believe that they would come in under budget. Avoid Herman and Joseph at all costs. I'd rather go to a dealer mechanic then them ever again. read more

Herman's Automotive is as crooked as the day is long. I bought a car from a lady who said Herman's Automotive replaced the CV boots to her 2 front axels. She even showed me the reciept. I looked under the car and took pictures of the Boots. They were cut our sliced with a sharp tool. Knife razor etc... I took a picture of it and showed this to the lady. She dropped the price of 200 dollars. I replaced both axels. Also,.. the fan belts looked in great shape. I had to replace the Alternator belt.. Looked like someone cut the belt a little better then half way through in a number of places. STAY AWAY FROM HERMAN'S AUTOMOTIVE IN WHITE ROCK, NEW MEXICO...HE IS A CROOK. I have more stories from what other people have told me. Over charging is a big one. AND , TAKING advantage of old women. Also, making up problems that were not there. This guy can't be trusted at all. STAY AWAY FROM HERMANS AUTOMOTIVE!!!!! I wish I didn't have to give one star for this rating... It won't post unless I pick at least one star.. Lol read more

Horrible! We were leaking a ton of transmission fluid and had to coast into Hermans. Had we read the previous reviews first (wish we had) we would have gotten a tow to a different mechanic. Herman started out very friendly and gave us a thorough examination. He explained our front tranny seal was shot and that he would have it back and running at noon the next day for about $700. He also tried to pressure us into more vehicle work than what was necessary to get us back on the road. We declined and asked for the tranny only to be fixed. Herman is not impeccable with his word. After we arrived at noon the next day we received more "bad news." The van was still up on the lift and the transmission was dangling and another part removed. He said there was a crack in the torque converter. They did a pressure test on it and found the crack. Our converter had previously been welded due to replacing insides and they said the crack was on the weld seam. To the naked eye we couldn't see it. He would not weld it because if anything happened he would be held liable down the road. Other mechanics would have helped us out on this, but we respected his business "ethics." He said he always lets people see the parts so they will believe him and that we could even take the old torque converter with us if we wanted. We gave him the go ahead to order the part to which we were promised it would arrive in Santa Fe the next morning, picked up and installed so that we would be on the road no later than 6pm. Herman is not impeccable with his word. We came back the next day at noon to checkin with the progress and nothing had been done. The part didn't come in the am delivery but not to worry as they have a tracking number and it would most assuredly arrive at the 2pm delivery. Herman would not disclose the tracking number with us and would not send a guy to retrieve the part. Finally at 4pm he said the part had arrived and that he would pick it up himself at evening and open up the shop to get it installed so that we would be on the road no later the next day at 10:30am. Herman is not impeccable with his word. We were not able to drive away with our old torque converter because he wanted to get his core charge even though he charged us $397 for a torque converter and auto zone carries them for $179 plus $100 for the core charge. He exhibited anger in front of us slamming his hand down on the desk, he was extremely rude at points. He took serious advantage of us during our misfortune. I have to agree with Nate, total scam artist. He's had my chipper/shredder for 6 months now. Charged me $450 to repair it and it only worked for about an hour. I brought it back and he still has it. Nothing but lies and excuses from him when I call or visit him. Never returns my phone calls. The push rods were damaged in the engine, my receipt states that they were replaced, however one of his techs said they just tried to straighten them out. I've contacted a lawyer, we'll see what happens. read more

I took my car to him. Never again. Even though I explained to him that I was working long hours and I couldn't get by to pick up or pay for the work (There isn't a drop box or a secure place to leave $$$), I thought we had come to an agreement about how to make that happen. When I went to get my car on Sunday, there wasn't an invoice in the car so I left the car there. The shop wasn't open on Monday, 2/21. When I spoke to him on Tuesday, I explained that I had not taken the car and I had left partial payment inside the car since I wasn't sure of the total. I explained to him AGAIN that I wasn't going to be able to get a check for the balance to him "live" due to my work hours and that I would mail him something to arrive by the end of the week and that I would be happy to leave the car until we settled up. He insisted that that wasn't a problem and agreed to leave me the actual invoice this time in the car. I picked the car up on Tuesday evening with the actual invoice. Huge mistake on my part. I mailed a check to him on Thursday. Not sure if it actually made the pickup or not. So, today on Friday, I get a call from a friend that was at my house doing a chore while I wasn't home. He actually sent someone to my house to "collect". My friend called me and I heard his minion tell her that I didn't return my messages. She had already told him that I was on the line and part of the conversation was that I would call the shop. The minion proceeded to tell my friend (Which I could actually hear) that I don't return my calls. I have a total of 3 calls on my phone at work and NO messages. (I keep a log). They left a message on my house phone at 11 am today and all of this was transpiring at 2 pm. My friends felt threatened and found this totally unprofessional yo booy. She even told the minion 2X that this wasn't her business but he kept talking. When I dropped the check off, I was angry. He proceeded to tell me that his minion didn't say any such things (so, now I am liar) which made me even more angry. His last statement to me was that if I badmouthed him on this web site, he would see me in court. What a mess. Never, ever again. read more

There must have been some confusion in the previous review--I had the opposite experience! I found him(Herman) to be an honorable businessman. My truck wouldn't start this afternoon. They towed it to their shop and spent the better part of an hour to analyze the problem and subsequently it cost me a reasonable amount. I'll go back. read more

I just had a great morning at Herman's. They fixed a flat tire for me, were super friendly, and had me out and on my way before 9 am.

Had them work on my wiring in my car, having issues with the rear tail light and front lights going off without the bulbs going out. When they said they were done picked up the car they had damaged the dash console and broken the change drawer in my vehicle and later that night i found they did not even fix the issue. was pulled over for broken tail light again even though they had already charged me 300 to work on it. took it back in the next day and they told me they had not ever worked on the car. I've been taking my vehicle to Herman's Automotive for the past several years and can't say enough about them. I find them to be honest, quality mechanics that perform great work at a reasonable cost. Can't explain the other two posts at all? read more
