I've been to this restaurant a half dozen times so far and couldn't be happier to post this review. Everything about the place represents the absolute best of it's type. Hermosa is so consistently great on every level, and I tell everyone I know about it. It's small restaurant with only a small amount of counter seating, but smartly decorated with a cool mural, and always spotlessly clean. Prices are super reasonable and food high quality. The owner has a passion for what he does like you rarely see. Innovative food, and every element made with care and skill. He always recognizes me and makes me feel like an honored guest. I've tried all of the specialty sandwiches, and loved every one. I'd say the Cambodian Chicken Sandwich and Moo Ping Sandwich (Thai pork) are my favorites so far. The Chicken Ginger Soup is also amazing. All the flavors are just bold and delicious. Even something as simple as french fries is masterfully executed, crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and not greasy. I am exclusively deeply excited or deeply disappointed by food in my old age. When you're a foodie in Chicago, you end up getting around enough to be disappointed once in a while by Kuma's and enlightened once or twice by Antique Taco (if you're gonna get juiced for tacos, let them be aged to perfection). All that to say that Ethan and Hermosa have, right now, my favorite, and dare I say thee best straight up burger in city limits. Double w/bacon. Pound for pound I'd bet on it at the races, at Mandalay Bay, in the Octagon every time. My wife and I can attest to the fact that they have zero misses (except for the fried pork sandwich, or which ever one has horseradishy sauce, since I consider horseradish an eternal miss). Enormous chicken parm. Perfectly sized Cobb Salad. Blackened Chicken that makes you wonder exactly what magic could go by such a basic title. Fresh fries, donuts from Something Sweet up off Fullerton, and I'm hyped to try their Jarrito Floats this summer. Will soon become a neighborhood staple and you'll regret not coming here when there's no lines. But maybe, but some wing and a prayer, it'll always remain this consistently amazing that's super chill and delicious. Not sure which one I want more for them really. read more

I LOVE this place, it's the hidden gem I wish more people knew about. I'd list my favorites sandwiches, but I fear people eating them all up before I get a chance to order. We mainly do delivery (Which has been super great during Quarantine) Dined in once, small, good for lone eating or couples. Hermosa is a treasure. I haven't tried the regular burgers and hot dogs because the collection of Asian sandwiches is so amazing and so different from anything else anywhere in Chicago. Top quality ingredients, everything cooked to order by a super friendly proprietor, and it is BYO. If Hermosa were in River North or Lincoln Park, it would be nationally renowned. Amazing food! I've lived in Hermosa for about 4 months and have yet to try something so delicious and fresh. There is really no other comparison in this neighborhood which makes Hermosa stand out. The grilled cheese and soup combo is perfect. The quality bread is really toasty and the cheese is quality. Delicious burgers and excellent fries on the side. Burgers were juicy and flavorful. Mine had Swiss cheese with lettuce, tomato, and their special grilled onion jam. Ketchup and mustard comes on the side. The fries had a crunch to it and then soft inside. Perfect bite! I recommend you give them a try. They also have a bakery/donut shop on site. I will be back. I recently moved into the hood and felt like I should check this place out. I ordered the bulgolgi steak sandwich, which did not disappoint. This place seemed to make everything from scratch and took about 5-10 mins to make an order. I was surprised at the lack of donuts they had on display considering it is all over their menu. This is what I love about Chicago. . this place has so much heart and soul. The owner is super nice! You can tell he cares about his customers. My husband had the "Bahn Mi" type sandwhich and I had the Thai pork sandwich (which the owner turned into a salad for me bc I don't eat bread) and they were both super yummy!!! The fries were also very good. I'd like to try all of the specialty sandwiches because they all look good and are "asian influenced" with korean, thai, and cambodian flavors, etc. I also like the Marvel artwork and the vintage coke machine.
