The corned beef sandwich had plenty of meat. Good flavor. It did seem very dry. No moisture in the meat. I would suggest ordering with something else on the sandwich like sauerkraut or thousand island dressing. I have not tried anything else but I heard the grits are off the hook and the breakfast menus looked pretty good. Service was swift. No nonsense at the register. The cooks were very polite and friendly. It came with a couple pickle spears. Ambiance is a bit rough. Looks clean but worn out. It's a throwback utilitarian dinner. It needs some love and some neon. The cost was high. About $17 for a no frills CB sandwich at a no frills dinner seemed like you should at least get a side with it. I had my ordered delivered. I haven't been here in decades. I had a blt and chili. The BLT was decent. I loved it. The chili is oily with barely any beans. It's like ground beef in oily chili favored soup, and they forgot to add my cheese. Moon's located at 16 S. Western, Chicago, IL 60612. I thought Moon's was closed...Hadn't been there since before the C-pandemic. During a telephone conversation with a friend (South Sider) he said "I gotta taste for a Moon's Cornbeef Plate" I said "What...Moon's is open???" He said "To his knowledge they never closed." It was about 9 pm when we were having this conversation. The next day I couldn't wait to pull-up at Moon's. It took me 45 minutes to get there from the Western Suburbs (I didn't care). It's still a challenge to find a park; however, Moon's is still the same clean small sandwich shop that I remembered it to be with friendly staff that greet you when you walk in. I ordered a "Corn beef Plate to Go." The plate cost $24 and consisted of "Thin Sliced very Tender Corn beef, Salad w/Italian Dressing, Corn, 2 Slices of Wheat Bread (your choice of bread) Mashed Potatoes w/Gravy ( I got my gravy on the side). Everything was delicious! It was Sooo much food. It took me 2 days to finish the plate. Everything was still delicious the next day. read more

For a sandwich shop that has been in business for nearly 90 years they are doing something right. Simple but fresh is their strategy. Classic sandwiches made fresh to order right in front of you, this little shop is not just for the neighborhood but a destination location. Instead of a side of fries, you'll have the option of chips or freshly made potatoes on the griddle, corned beef sliced to order with little to no fat warmly sandwiched in between delicately soft rye bread, and the cheeseburger sitting beautifully in white paper was absolutely fantastic. I visited Moon's twice so far. I like Moon's. Their corn beef sandwich is to die for. They are not shy with the meat, very tasty, and you can even make more sandwiches with it! That is how much meat they give you! They do the same for the roast beef sandwich, too, but the roast beef sandwich is only served on Mon., Wed., and Fri. Two very good sandwiches. I would come back for it. The turkey looks good, too. They serve a good breakfast here, too, all day long! The Jumpball is incredible! I got the bacon one without egg and it is very good. They cook the best potatoes in the city! The bacon is not bad either. I would come back for the Jumpball and potatoes. They fooled me on my second visit. I thought since they gave me so much meat on the roast and corned beef sandwiches that they would do they same for the other sandwiches as well. Boy, I wrong. So stay away from the grill cheese, BLT and meatloaf sandwiches. Just not worth buying because there is not enough meat on any of the sandwiches. The meatloaf is tasty, but only two slices of it are on the sandwiches. It is a hole in the wall. Whatever year it was built was the last time they made any changes to it. In the heart of the urban west side. So be prepared for weed smoke, cigarette smoke, masks not all the way on the face, somebody high or drunk on the street, hearing sirens all over, somebody trying to sell you something, employees fighting among themselves, a lot of cussing over current events, loud talking, waiting for your food 30 mins after you order it and accessing everything I just mentioned during those 30 mins. read more

Ordered ahead on Grubhub and didn't start my order til I came to the pickup time. I wanna assume it's due to being under staffed and having other orders to deal with. There is a sign that says "no mask no service" and they don't enforce it consistently. One worker asks a man trying to come in to stay outside. He didn't have his mask on. He just had it in his hand. Later he persists and just walks in and no one behind the counter says anything, despite the sign posted. Social distancing and masks aren't enforced. This is concerning. Customer safety isn't prioritized as much as it needs to be here. They seem to just give up after being pushed around a bit. It doesn't take much to break the rules here. Only one man was really enforcing it but he wasn't always around to be at the entrance. This hard working man is spread thin and it's unfortunate that his coworkers don't consistently enforce the expectations like he does. It's no wonder some customers will follow the expectations and some won't. Consistency is key. The cashier is definitely aware of what is going on but just continues his work. "You are why people don't want to give business to restaurants. All you care about are appearances and just care about making money regardless of who's safety is compromised. Shame on you!". I even clearly filled out the form on Grubhub and asked for white toast and they gave me raisin toast. This place isn't known for attention to detail when it comes to technology. My order was definitely made in a rush. I'll wait when you actually know how to enforce masks and social distancing constantly and actually higher order accuracy. read more

I've always wanted to try this spot in the hood. It's a 85 yr old institution. Serving up piles of corned beef and a solid breakfast. If you're extra hungry get the Jump ball, it's shareable too. Great grits and you won't leave dissatisfied. Ask for Jim if you're not happy. Ask for Baybay if you are in the mood for some laughs, just don't call her Bebe! Everything about this gigantic corned beef sandwich was amazing. The corned beef was flavorful and tender. The pickles were fresh and crispy and the rye bread complimented the sandwich so well. I do not normally care for rye bread but wanted to order the sandwich the way they make it. There rye bread meshed with the sandwich really well and I did not get overwhelmed by the flavor in the bread. They also give you a small plate of corned beef for free when you arrive. The restaurant itself was very buisy. It was a bit shabby but dont let that scare you the food is worth staying.
