We came here because we wanted to try an Italian beef before our plane ride home and they were open at 8am! Kudos for the hours, and service was fast and friendly. Got the beef dipped with hots and it was huge, tasty/beefy and messy as hell. Grabbed a jar of giard to bring back home. Classic Italian deli vibes, glad we got to try it on our way out.

The Italian sub is exactly what I want every time I come here. It is so consistently good every time! We usually pick up their homemade hot gardeneirnia which is the best in the city. We also grab some barese sausage as it is quite unique to them from my understanding. It is typically used for breakfast sandwiches, but we cut it up into sausage balls to make homemade red sauces that are quite good. This place is a fantastic Italian deli that is a Chicago institution.

Excellent Italian beef and great sandwiches! This place has a little grocery store with a deli in the back. You'll find classic Italian produce. The deli is varied and fresh! Also, prices aren't bad for the size of the sandwiches. They work fast and efficient. You order in the back but pay at the register up front. There is no dine-in or sitting in, it'd and in and out grocery with a deli. Highly recommend!

Finally checked Bari off my Italian deli list in Chicago, and I'm really glad I did. Right away, it gives off that classic old-school Italian deli vibe, totally reminds me of being back home in New Jersey, which I love. Ordering was super simple, and I was helped right away. My sandwich came out in just minutes. The price for a 12-inch Italian was really good too, one of the cheaper ones I've had in the city, or honestly anywhere. I also loved that they have a little grocery section with Italian ingredients, meats, cheeses, and other items to cook at home which is a nice extra touch. I ate my sandwich at home. It wasn't the greatest Italian sandwich I've ever had, but it was still really tasty. Next time, Id ask for a few more toppings it was a little light on mayo and oil I just got it as is so good reminder when you order. The bread was great, and the portion was huge. Definitely hit my Italian sandwich craving. Overall, a solid spot and worth checking out. Five stars from me.

I stopped by twice during my 3-day trip to Chicago, and that really says something. It's a small grocery store with a few standing tables if you want to eat there, but I ended up heading to the park since it's so quiet and I felt a little awkward nomming on my sandwich in the store. Make sure to go all the way to the back of the store to place your order. I tried the Italian cold deli and the Italian beef with provolone (extra $$). I personally prefer the Italian beef, it's dipped in the broth, which makes the bread soft but not too soggy, and the flavor really cuts through. The Italian cold deli is huge with a good amount of meat, though I found the bread a little dry without the broth like the Italian beef. Portions are generous, the people at the store are lovely, and it's a must-try if you're visiting Chicago!

Look. Let's cut to the chase. If you go to Chicago for ANYTHING, go for the Italian beef. I was first introduced to this holy grail of meat on a bun at Portillo's and it's been a rollercoaster of a ride ever since. Now, if Italian beef is even mentioned in conversation, I eavesdrop like the KGB. I need the meats (sorry Arby's). Bari's was introduced to me by a person who I hold near and dear to my heart. And no, no spoilers (Sorry River). The fact that this Ark of the Meat-anent™ is located inside an actual Italian deli is just another special layer, like an onion (Sorry Shrek). Entering the deli, you're met with your classic deli acutremant (sorry spelling). It looks exactly what you would picture a deli looking like. You don't even need your imagination. Walk your way to the back, shipping as you go, and BOOM, deli counter. This is where the magic happens. Service is your normal deli style service. Guy asks what you want, patron tells them. I ordered the 9" Italian beef. Hot. Dipped. If you don't order your Italian beef dipped, you don't even actually like Italian beef. Buddy. My guy. Pal. Did you see those pictures? I'll be honest with you, this is my second time there. I just forgot to review it. And unwrapping that sandwich was still better than any Christmas morning (sorry mom and dad). It was heavy, it was wet. The bun falls apart it's so wet. You know how weird it is to say I love a wet sandwhich? The only ONLY sadness I had in me heart was I feel there were not enough giaderna? gierderna? gardienna? The spicy relish stuff on it. But, the flavor alone makes up for it. If I had the Midas touch, I would want everything I touched to turn into Bari's Italian Beef. I'd call it the meat touch. Well. Maybe not that, but something catchy. Sandwhich wetness 12/10 Chicago staple 10/10 Parking 3/10 (parking was rough. Traveled probably 30 miles looking for a spot)

This place is a staple - my parents were obsessed with this place when I was a kid and I understand why. As I grew up, it all made sense haha it's crazy, I've only visited this place one time in person. All the other times, people have picked up the food or ordered for delivery, phenomenal every single time. This is the kind of place where you can taste the love in the sandwiches. Like they truly care about their craft & making a good sub. The most recent experience I had, I ordered the Caprese and Italian Sausage... can't tell which one was better. If you have never been to this joint, highly recommend. Even if it's out of your way, make the drive. You won't be disappointed. Thank you Bari for everything, see you soon! Personal Review: 8.9/10

A little while ago a few influencers put me on to the fact that Bari had an Italian beef, so I knew I needed to try it. For those that haven't been, Bari is a great little Italian grocer right next to that famed Chicago Italian bakery (see previous reviews). Bari has really quality ingredients and I've never been disappointed with any of their food items. The staff is always really kind. This is more of a grab and go place. I love the customization that is offered here that the other spots don't offer. The dip they put on their sandwiches is outrageous, but the bread still holds up really well. I think the beef could add a touch more salt. My wife ordered the Italian sub and said it was amazing. Pro tip: get fresh mozzarella and pesto

    Large Italian Sub
    John S.

One of the best Italian subs in the city. Plenty of quality meat and huge size. While they don't have anywhere to sit, grab a sub and some other goodies and find a nice park to enjoy your sandwich. Their sides are ok but nothing exceptional. Lines are mong during peak hours but they sling the sanwiches pretty fast.

01/13/25 - Holy shite I've driven by Bari hundreds of times but never stopped in Bari is located next to D'Amatos both Chicago landmarks. I finally stopped in here today to give their Italian beef a try. Bari is a small Italian grocery store w/a nice assortment of products. The reason for going to Bari was to try their Italian Beef this has to be one of if not da best beef I ever ate. My buddy got the 12" Italian beef & said "That was the best 12"s of Italian Beef". Dam he ate the whole thing. I ordered the 9" Italian beef dipped w/Jardinero peppers. OMG this beef is so dam good. I only ate only half of the 9" beef sandwich which was enough for me & saved the other half for dinner There are so many great beef sandwiches in Chicago but for personally me Al's on Taylor street had been my undisputed No 1, but after trying Bari Italian Beef I'm questioning which one is better. ITS THAT DAM GOOD. I'm salivating as I'm writing this review thinking about this beef.

Excellent Italian beef, unreal flavor from the jus and the beef. Got the Italian beef dipped with sweet peppers. The bread held up on the drive home and had the perfect amount of moisture without getting too soggy. The guys behind the counter were world class felt like home.

    Prosciutto & mozz
    Maddie H.

I think the subs here are solid and so is the grocery store! Got the Italian and prosciutto &mozz and both were awesome. Unique homemade giardiniera, that was really good! Service is pretty quick and if there's a line you can poke around the store while you wait. Family local shop kind of vibe.

But this place has the new gold standard for a meatball. It was everything you want. It is fork tender, full of flavor, no chewy ground up bits. The pizzas were authentic and thin. I came here for a business dinner with about 6 others. The only frustrating part of our experience was we made a reservation online weeks in advance and when we arrived we were told that they basically overbooked every night and when you reserve a seat you're just saying you're coming. So we showed up and were told we were going to wait an hour. It sounds like they are super busy, but there are better ways to ensure the restaurant is selling every available seat rather than offering basically fake reservations that don't mean anything when you get there. Someone in our group complained enough about it that they sat us and did honor the reservation which we appreciated - given that it was a business dinner though, I think it was awkward we had to do that. It just was a LOT of work to organize multiple out of towners getting together and to show up and potentially wait an hour would have been so inconvenient. They really should fix this problem. The reservation issue aside the experience was great. The service is just sort of meh I didn't feel like they were above or beyond and didn't note anything exceptional there. But the food..... the food is the main event for sure. Everything I tried I loved. I had just had Italian the day before so I didn't want anything that felt "too Italian" (lasagna, pasta, pizza, etc) so I got the braised short rib over polenta which was a nice change of pace. It was amazing. Some of the best polenta I've ever had. I am already looking forward to the next time I can go back! The food here is outstanding. If you are able to go, I would highly recommend it.
