Needed something quick once we got off the ferry and headed here. Definitely stood around for a few min awkwardly waiting for someone to take my order before I realized they have all their ordering done on an iPad. In my defense, the iPad is over to the right and not at the main counter. I placed my order pretty easily on the iPad. It was easy to remove or add ingredients and was clear what was gluten free. I always think it's interesting when places try to do an auto-20% tip when you order via machine and then pick up the order from the counter. The iPad said I would get a text when my food was ready, so I wandered off. I came back, no text, and my food was ready. So definitely hang close because it is more likely that they will set your food on the counter. It looks like it is designed for all food to be served as takeout, but they do have tables where you can enjoy your food from the takeout containers. We took ours on the road. The tofu topping was well seasoned and delightful. My boyfriend liked his chicken burrito. We would be back for a quick bite, but aren't necessarily craving more. read more

We were looking for quick and delicious Mexican food on Friday Harbor and we found it. They smoke their brisket in-house and it was so flavorful! Wowza! Pleasantly surprised by this little Mexican restaurant. The service was great, the staff even let us eat there as they were closing up. We had the grande burrito and tacos and rice and bean bowls. As a vegetarian, I really enjoyed the tofu option, it was delicious and well seasoned. My husband enjoyed the pork tacos. Wow!!!! Revelation of the year!!!!! The best amazing tamales are in Redmond at the Saturday market!! It's not frozen they are being steamed right in front of you. Taste like gmoms good cooking!!! I was talking to one of the lady's and asked where they got their recipe comes from mother in law who is from Hermosillo Mexico! If u want fresh tamales and tacos u got to come give them a try!!! We came across this restaurant while visiting San Juan Islands. Hermosa is located just a short walk from the Friday Harbor Ferry Terminal which makes it very convenient for those who want better quality healthier food than what's being served at the ferry terminal. We tried their burrito, pork tacos, vegan tamale and one of my kids had a quesadilla. The lady that took our order was very courteous and offered suggestions and customized our items to our needs. Each items tasted wonderful and fresh. Even my kids finished all of their food and there was plenty of it because the portion sizes are generous. The place was busy at the time of our visit and every customer seemed happy and enjoying their food. The staff is a group of friends. They all were very friendly and appeared happy to work there. The super clean kitchen is in full view of the customers. You can see them prep and cook your food if you like. This place is small with perhaps 4-5 tables and seating for 10-12 people on the first floor, however they share outdoor seating space with other venues so if the weather is nice you can sit outside and take the food to go. The upstairs features a large bar area with additional seating but it's 21+ only. The bathrooms are cleanest I have seen which is a huge plus in my book. Eating at Hermosa was one of the highlights of our trip and we definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone that appreciates good home made quality Mexican food being served in a clean and friendly envireonment. read more

Finally a Mexican restaurant on the island. We attempted to go to another one in the past. This was a fresh of breath air to see this place. I had an old fashioned, wife had a cocktail, and we shared nachos and tacos. They were very good. The place has two levels. Too and bottom. The owner said they just opened in 2018. She said they were at a different island. I hope to see this place when we bring our kids in 2019 back. It's not easy for us to get here. Normally 2 plane rides, an Uber, ferry, shuttle to the car rental and finally our vehicle. But it will be worth it. read more

THE VERDICT: Being a major tourist town, Friday Harbor is lousy with restaurants that don't really care if you have a good dining experience; they figure they'll just reel in the next fanny-pack wearing, selfie-taking hayseed from Hicksville, Middle America. This is very good Mexican food! We had pork carnitas street tacos, chicken street tacos, a rice and refried bean bowl, chips and guacamole from the online order system. It was all boxed up and ready in minutes, and everything was nicely packed, hot and delicious. The tacos and bowl were garnished with plenty of fresh cilantro, diced onion and cheese. The meats were both very tender, flavorful and delicious: not at all dry. There are some tables outside for self service eating. All in all, a very nice dining experience. Great little place located next to the ferry terminal in Friday Harbor. We had been meaning to try it all summer but just made it in this weekend. The menu is pretty limited to burrito, tamales, street tacos and quesadillas. We had the mondo chicken burrito, steak street tacos (3) and a steak quesadilla. I was a little disappointed that for the price everything was served a la carter and not served with chips and salsa or rice and beans. The street tacos were very good but 3 at $11 is a bit much to then add more $$ for chips and salsa or cans of soda so no refills. Wow! This place is such a gem. We had drinks in the bar and Patrick is an awesome bartender. I'll admit I'm kind of a snob about cocktails. He made me two of the best cocktails I've had in a long time. I'm from Bellingham and am spoiled with amazing drinks, but he seriously knows what he is doing. He also was so chill. Loved this place. Went one night for dinner and between me and my husband, we tried all of the tacos and the vegan tamale. Everything was so excellent that we came back the next night for happy hour. There were some decent deals ($5 margaritas, $2 chips and in-house delicious salsa, 2 tacos for $6 etc etc) and we got one of each tamale. They were so good!! I love everything about this place. After a 2.5 hour ferry delay from Anacortes, this was my first stop. The woman at the counter was so friendly. I appreciate that they have many vegan and gluten free options. I ordered tacos with half veggies and half tofu. My first time having a taco with tofu and it was soooo good. Has the texture of meat. Our go to for Taco Tuesday lunches. They even roast us whole Jalepenos for extra $ but worth it. My husband and I consistently share the 'local' 4 spicy pork tacos. 2 of them for workday lunch and a whole Jalepeno is PERFECT and crazy cheap for lunch anywhere on the island. I only wish they'd do taco punch cards like Tinas Tacos do (we go there when we want to switch it up for fish tacos) I hope this will be a mainstay. It's always sad when we get gifted a sweet spot like this only for it to close. Restaurants on the island struggle during the slow season. I have a feeling though they aren't going anywhere. We ordered downstairs at a counter and then went upstairs to a bar area where we ordered drinks separately. The bartender was especially friendly. They do not have beers on draft - just cans/bottles. We opted for two tamales and chips and salsa. The short menu also included burritos and tacos. The food was brought upstairs but without forks and napkins. Ended up walking into Hermosa after arriving early to the ferry line home while in Friday Harbor for work. I sat at the bar with the expectation of having my usual whiskey coke just like waiting at the airport but ended up trying a "cherry bomb" craft cocktail after talking with Noah the bartender. Needless to say I was blow away by the flavor. It was also interesting to learn that all of the ingredients are pressed and purée'd in house daily. I will definitely be returning to try the margarita options as well.
