I tried this place a few weeks ago during a trip to Friday Harbor and had the street tacos for lunch. They were wonderful and very authentic. I came back today for happy hour in the bar upstairs (bar opens at 4pm) and had a margarita. The bartender, Kaitlyn, came up with the agave syrup recipe herself so it wasn't sugary like the typical syrups. The margarita was fantastic! I recommend Hermosa to anyone that's looking for some authentic Mexican food/drink while on the island. Very friendly and personable staff too! read more

As part of our regular travel up to SJI we visited Hermosa since we had never been here. We tried the tamale and quesadilla. They where great. Authentic, the salsa was great, both the pork tamal meat as well as the carne asada for the quesadilla was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The tamales are loaded with sour creams, onions, cilantro and white fresh cheese just perfect authentic seasoning. One additional highlight is upstairs they have a bar with delicious cocktails and some special beers from some favorites to local specialties. You won't have an issue getting amazing food here as everything looked and tasted amazing. The staff was super friendly and helpful with any need we could had. Will definitely be coming back to try more tamales. Forgot to mention, my wife had a taco and she loved it, great street taco and they also where supper accommodating prepping a cheese free (lactose free) taco and tamales. read more

My husband and I decided to check this place out after reading the reviews and we are happy we did! They have options for vegan, gluten free, and vegetarian. We sat upstairs in their bar and were impressed by their selection of drinks. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. For the audiophiles- they have a killer sound system. We were looking for a place that was open, close to 7pm, and asked a random local for a good place to eat. He pointed us toward this little gem of a find! When we walked in we were greeted with hospitality and told they would be happy to serve us (even though they were close to closing). We walked upstairs to the bar and again, met by our welcoming bartender, Patrick. He made us his custom special of the day, a jalapeno margarita with a hint of fresh strawberries. The food was perfectly sized and delicious. We had the vegan tamale, street tacos, and grande burrito... it was authentic and not loaded down with the usual rice and beans and chips. Generally the food is pretty good (in a $16 quesadilla -veggies and meat added- there was a little too much cheese but the brisket was great....could have used more veggies ). They are not allowing customers to use the touch pad asking each person about tip which puts some unnecessary pressure on the customer to tip. They did this for COVID precautions but not all workers were wearing masks appropriately so it felt awkward. The service is quick, and it's a great little spot if you're really hungry. read more

Over priced, mediocre food and no hot sauce options??!! Guac is below average and salsa seems like it's out of a bottle. No sure what they were thinking with the quesadilla. Lame. I could do better with my microwave at home. Street tacos are tasty. Loosen up and offer a few items- HOT SAUCE, SALSA etc. with the meal. The food quality doesn't justify the high price. By the time 2 of us ordered street tacos, some chips, salsa, guac, $40+ !!!! We won't be going back. :( read more

Amazing burritos! The carnitas, beans and all the ingredients are just so tasty. I made sure to come back for a second time during my visit. For those concerned about price, the quality of the ingredients are top notch and the place is located on a small island, where such quality ingredients are more expensive. The portions are also generous. I had my burrito for lunch and dinner and I'm not a light eater. The staff are lovely, even with tourists who are asking sort of annoying questions. My son and family were visiting from Chicago and we thought a ferry ride to Friday Harbor would be a great excursion. After doing a little shopping, we were looking for a place to eat. We took a turn into a little alley and saw this restaurant. My 17 year old granddaughter is vegan. I have a six year old granddaughter. Then 4 adults. The staff were extremely helpful with the menu. We all ate very well for under $100 including drinks. I can't make a recommendation because we all shared and liked everything (my first tamale was amazing). We will return to eat there again when we have visitors to Washington. read more

Besides being the most expensive Mexican food I've ever had (over $17.00 for 2 tamales and some corn chips), this was the worst, most foul tasting, Mexican food I have ever had in my life! After 1 bite of the disgusting tasting tamales, I felt like I wanted to throw up and could not eat another bite. This place should be shut down by the local county health department. read more

We popped in on whim and are soooo very happy we did. The tamales are fresh made on prem - not frozen - as are the sauces. Even if not vegan, their vegan tamales are the bomb. I'm from SoCal so know my Mexican food. Frankly was hesitant to have a Mexican meal on the island but we wanted a quick snack before boarding the ferry. We split the carnitas street taco plate. They were excellent and stuffed with meat. Spices were perfect. Didn't rate the place higher because it was small and decor non-existent. Upstairs bar area was closed so can't comment. read more

too expensive ! 4$ for a taco is absurd. portions are small for the prices I payed especially when it came to rice and guacamole. The quesadilla was so flat with barely any cheese. This was hands down one of the best burritos I've ever had. My boyfriend who is super picky when it comes to food even loved his burrito! This place is definitely a hidden gem on the island and I am so glad we tried it. It is a little pricey but compared to other pricey places on the island you are getting your money's worth in taste, size & atmosphere.
