I wasn't sure if Hernandez Hardwood needs another 5-star review but of course I have to add my positive review to the list! About 12 years ago, my husband had Jay install laminate floors for our rental property. To this date, the laminate floor has held up really well. Fast forward to 2020, we wanted to install LVP flooring in our primary residence. We went with an installer that a friend of ours recommended and it was a huge mistake and waste of time. Our floor failed and began peeling/buckling within 1.5 years. After contacting that installer and not getting any help, we decided to look for someone new to fix our problem. We were getting different bids from various flooring contractors, afraid to get ripped off again; this was when my husband remembered our old flooring contractor who installed our laminate floor all these years ago. He called Jay - he came out to give us an estimate a day later. I did not get to talk to Jay 12 years ago but when I did meet him recently, I was blown away by his knowledge. I could tell instantly that we need to hire him, even before we saw the estimate. I told my husband, we should hire Jay, even if his bid comes back to be higher than others'. Thankfully, the estimate came out to be very reasonable, cheaper than some of them. We were able to pay a deposit and a week later had our floors installed. For 500 sq ft, the job only took one day (removal of previous LVP and installation of SPC flooring + new moulding and quarter rounds) The crew was very polite and efficient, even cleaned up after the job was done. We went into the store and explained our situation that we were having movers come in a few days and we needed the flooring done before they came and the owner himself came the next day to give us an estimate. They started almost immediately and were finished in a timely manner and without the job looking or feeling rushed. The flooring guys were super nice and efficient. Couldn't be happier with everything from Hernandez. The hardest thing about this whole process was selecting the final product. There is so much to choose from in their store. Once we were ready the Hernandez team was fabulous. They came in and got our old tile floor removed quickly. Then came installation and wow, we were so impressed how quickly everything came together. We goofed and had not selected our baseboards but we were able to get that added to the job, the team came out the next day and knocked that out. The workers are phenomenal. Shockingly awesome! So happy We chose Hernandez Hardwoods. We'd gotten some quotes from the typical places like Home Depot, Empire (junk!) and I think the 3rd was called LA flooring. The selections were poor at LA and Empire and the prices were exorbitant across the board. Do not even hesitate to use Hernandez Hardwoods!!! He came with a massive selection of floor types and colors in my price range. We matched what we liked best, gave a deposit and scheduled our install date. He emailed me my quote and invoice and we were ready to go. Install day went off without a hitch. The crew arrived on time. They were courteous, professional and left my place immaculate. The foreman made sure to keep me apprised of everything he was going to do. They busted their butts all day and barely took a break as far as I could tell. I work at home, so as much as I mainly stayed out of the way, I couldn't help but notice how fast and efficiently they work. One of the best things for me was they took off all my baseboards and put them back on. Nobody else offered to do that. They wanted to install three-quarter round in front of the existing baseboards to hide any gaps. What? No thank you. An awesome last touch? I have never felt the need to post something negative, especially a small business but this company was horrible! I DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL! They over charge you for flooring and then they take the remaining flooring that you already paid for that you could possibly use in the future if need be. The flooring they sold was supposed to be magical and scratch resistant and waterproof blah blah blah, well it wasn't. I don't care how much I spend on a product, just don't lie to me. The owner is rude and disrespectful with little to no care about your time or any tiny feeling you might have regarding the poor job his company did. He came back after the flooring was installed (which took almost 4 months) and acknowledged all the damage but never came back to repair anything. I debated for a bit on whether I would leave a review. I didn't want to be hasty and emotional when I did. Here goes... Last week I contacted Jay to schedule a time for him to come out to measure and give a quote. He cancelled that appointment. We rescheduled for the following day, but unfortunately I had to reschedule that one. We decided on today. Jay shows up this morning and seemed to be standoffish when he walks in. My husband and I greeted him and he barely said a word back. He seemed to not want to be there. He just stood there for a few minutes not saying much of anything. I finally asked, "would you like to look at the space?" He agreed and then began to measure the areas we were looking to have done. He wrote up a quote and then left. A few hours later, I get a text from him saying that he is "going to pass on the work." I have never spoken to a salesperson as rude as he was today. I have also never had a contractor "pass on the work" as my husband and I pay on time and cash. I have my suspicions about why he refused the job, but that's a conversation for another day and time. If you think you found a deal at lowest or Home Depot think again. Every person I've sent here I ask them how was it. All of them have had a different experiences so I can't tell you all of them. What I can tell you is that each one of them walked out that business drove home called me or txt me a few days later maybe a month max and still had a smile on their face when I finally ask so how was it. Save time on shopping around and money by checking them out. If you have a long list of places n don't take my advice. We were looking to do our floors for a few months and received many quotes. Hernandez Hardwood had the lowest price for the best quality. Jay helped us pick out our material and baseboards and got us scheduled quickly. His team showed up on time and ready to work, they worked fast! They were very respectful, cleaned up after themselves and most importantly did a clean job. Their work was impeccable and they paid close attention to detail. The first time we reached out we left several messages before setting an apt with Jay. Once I got him on the phone we scheduled for a week out. I gave him specifics of what I was looking for (including pics over text) so he was prepared for our meeting. When he came out he measured, we picked out what we wanted and he quoted us on the spot. The quote of $6400 included laminate that was $3.09sq (in addition to the underlayment) for about 800sq ft, 15 stairs with risers as well as 3 bedrooms and two closets with carpet and padding. We decided we'd hire him and advised we needed the job to start in about 2-3 weeks. I asked what his availability was and what we needed to do to secure him. Jay told us to just call when we were ready. Fast forward three weeks, I leave several messages over a week span trying to schedule the job and resort to a text asking if he was still interested in doing work for us. "How can I help you" was the response. I texted back my address, name, date of our prev apt and brief description of the last meeting. His next text "sure" came hrs later followed by another text saying the laminate I had picked out was no longer available and we would need to book another apt. He was available two days later and came back out (it was a Thursday). He shows up, measures again because this time we are not including a bathroom and laundry so it's about 120 less sq ft. At the end of the apt Jay tells us we need to drive to his store to pick out the flooring. We confirm his hours and tell him my s/o will be there the following day when he gets off work (around 1230-100). My s/o shows up and there's a sign on the door he is closed for lunch for 2 hrs. We call and text, no response. We live 45 min away. We decide we will just go the following morning together. We wake up early Saturday and drive down. We pick out a few we like in the $1.67 to the $2.49 range. While there he makes several comments about taking the samples home because "you'll really need to with that color you have on your walls." I have light gray (granite dust), not sure why he was so taken back by that color choice and why he was so rude about it, but whatever. Either way, we take the samples home, make our decision and call him to tell him our choice, we have to leave a message. Monday after work my s/o drops off the samples and inquires on the new quote since this laminate is $1.42 a sq less than the original one we picked. Jay says he will get back to us. A few days later Jay texted asking about the risers on the stairs (we had already given this info in person twice). The following day we get a quote for $4290. I confirm dates he can start and once more that it is for everything. He responded hours later saying no just laminate. I tell him I need the all in just like previously. Then he tells me we never looked at carpet. So I text him the pic of what we had previously picked he says he can't find it so we need to come back down to his store again. At this point I'm upset because he has lost our info multiple times now and doing quick math its looking like this is going to be more than the original quote and that flooring was way more expensive. At this point in time I'm exhausted and we've already been put weeks behind schedule with the back and forth so we decide to deal with his rudeness and drive back up to Riverside the following day, which is a Saturday again. This time when we arrive the door and gate is locked with a note listing a new address. When we arrive at the new location there is one car in the parking lot and through the window you could see a taco bell cup and bag on the floor and some of his flooring displays. We test the door, its locked, we knock, no answer. We decided to wait in the car since we just drove 45 min to get there. We wait about 30 min while trying to reach him or hope he would show up since he knew what time we were coming. His phone went straight to VM and was not answering texts. His business line gave a busy signal like it was off the hook. To say I was pissed it being nice, so we left. Jay never did text or call back or provide the final quote. He was extremely unprofessional and rude and wasted weeks of my time and cost me money on time spent. I would not recommend him or his company unless you like being dicked around. I did however end up finding another company who was amazing and provided great professional kind work. So in the end I'm glad Jay was such a flake so we didn't end up with a bad job too read more
