To start, the front desk staff is very helpful with scheduling times and providing clarity with all payments. In addition, Dr Kevin Kim is probably one of the most knowledgeable dentist in the area as well as both of his dental hygienists. I'd been a patient with this office since 2011, but since Dr. Kim left its gone way downhill. They have had so many dentist and staff rotate in; and were using contract dentist and hygienist to keep the office afloat. I was in last week only to find out they have yet another new dentist. Continuity of care is a big thing, and I've been more than patient but this is beyond ridiculous. They use a call center to answer phones, and you are lucky if you even get a call back. Once i got there, I found that they had canceled my appointment, even though I received a voicemail confirming my appointment for the next day ! They were not willing to correct their error. As someone who doesn't currently have dental insurance, I was really excited to see NuYu's new patient special! It's only been about a year since my last dental appointment, but I've been going twice a year for as long as I can remember so I was pretty eager to find an affordable dentist. The service was fantastic from the time I stepped in to when I left by everyone I interacted with. The office space was also very nice and looked relatively new and clean! The cleaning was very thorough and I could just feel the difference in how clean my teeth were after! The dental hygienist did an amazing job and was very friendly. I feel like she had some trouble managing my saliva and got most of my face wet throughout the cleaning, but not a big deal because she really took the time to clean my teeth well. I also appreciated that she explained everything she was doing before she did it, which shows her excellent patient skills. I really appreciated the dentist who did my exam because she was very kind, knowledgeable and seemed to actually care about my dental health. Unlike other dentists I've been to, she took more time to speak with me about my dental health and was straightforward. I will say online, the new patient special says it comes with fluoride and when I called to schedule my appointment I was reassured that it came with it. However, at the end of my cleaning I asked about the fluoride and was told it would be an additional cost. If you're not going to provide a service, I don't think it's right to advertise it because I came in expecting it, so I was disappointed when I didn't receive it. If I hadn't expected it, I definitely wouldn't have been disappointed nor would I have taken off a star. When I was checking out, the woman at the front desk showed me their patient plan for those without insurance which is actually a great deal! It's $199 for an x-ray, cleaning and exam biannually and you'll also get 20% off services, but this deal is only applicable at this location. I've been introduced to other plans which are similar to this one, but only offered 20% off the cleaning, and therefore, cost more. I definitely plan on signing up and look forward to NuYu Dental being my dentist of choice for the next year! read more

I don't write reviews too often but I feel the need to write one today. I've been coming here for more than ten years and have always had exceptional service. I know the world is understaffed these days but after my experience today, my trust for this team has been broken. I didn't recognize anyone and from the very beginning, the check-in system seemed so impersonal, they were running behind without an apology of some sort, some of the team members failed to introduce themselves including the dentist, and I just felt extra anxious with the disorganization and staff's inability to use the equipment. When the person asked for help, no one was available to help the new person. When I got to see the dentist, I felt unheard and not taken seriously. Even the check out process was blah. I really hope they are able to figure things out soon. Sometimes if things are that chaotic, it may be best to reschedule appointments. Her dental assistant (I'm sorry I do not remember her name) was equally amazing! They were very understanding about my anxiety and even had to deal with a few emotional moments. I have been going here for nine years every since they opened. It has always been a pleasant experience. Staff may change but they are always consistent in how they treat their patients. I have to spotlight one employee. That is my dental hygienist, Elizabeth. She is truly amazing and she puts things in my terms so that I understand. After moving to N. Austin a few months ago my wife and I decided to try this dentist out based on all the high praise and great reviews. So after making the decision, I took the next logical step, call to book an appointment. I called sometime in the mid-afternoon on a weekday and my call immediately went to voicemail -- which, in and of itself, is no big deal. I figured surely they're busy so I'll leave a message. Since we wanted to get in to see the dentist soon (routine cleaning) I decided to just call back every 15 minutes or so to try and get a receptionist: no answer every time. Finally, about 3 hours later I received a call back from a number that wasn't the office number. Here's how that conversation went: Me: "Hello, this is Casey" Caller: "Hello?" Me: "Hello, who is this?" Caller: "Who's this?" Me: "This is Casey..." Caller: "..." Me: "I'm sorry, do you have the wrong number?" Caller: "umm, this is SoandSo" Me: "Okay...?" Caller: "umm, did you try calling NuYu Dental?" Me: "Yeeaaah...I wanted to book an appointment" Caller: "Oh! Okay great, well I can help you with that, when would you like to come in?" Me: "Any time this week is fine since I work from home..." Caller: "Oh...well, I'm calling you from my car right now and can't actually access our calendar to see what's open...So I'll call you back in a couple hours, is that okay?" Me: "Uh, yeah, I guess that works". Fast forward a couple of hours...no call ever comes. Clearly this person had no idea who they were calling and then offered to book the appointment without actually being able to book the appointment...awesome. So, I waited the rest of the day, no call still. Ever determined, I called back in the morning, again no answer. Again, called many more times, no answer... Rather than be defeated, I decided okay, new approach...I'll book the appointment Online! (hurrah technology!). Upon completion of the online form I was informed that I'd receive a call...and you'll never guess what happened. The call never came. So we finally decided to move on and book an appointment with another DDS (who was great btw). Now get ready for the best part: 2 weeks after the online appointment was entered I finally got the call...at 8-9am on a Saturday morning! Caller: "Hello, this is SoandSo with NuYu Dental." Me: [just woken up by the phone] "Hello" Caller: "Umm, I apologize for the delay but you requested an appointment online, did you still want to book that?" Me: "No. Went somewhere else." Caller: "Oh." Me: "Yeah." Caller: "Okay, thanks!" Me: *click* So....while the dentist may be the greatest ever. I'll never know since they have absolutely abysmal people responsible for booking appointments. Not sure how anyone actually books appointments here (or why). Good luck. read more

Worst experience at a "professional" office ever. We show up 10 minutes early knowing this is a small practice, so we anticipate them being busy, someone rushes out to say they'd be with us in a moment as we walk in, then goes back. We wait patiently for about 25 minutes without anyone coming out to greet us. We are the only people in the waiting room. Phone rings about 4 times without anyone answering it, finally someone comes out to answer the phone, looks our way but doesn't say anything about having to wait. So we just sit there because she's slouched over talking on the phone at the desk. Finally the dentist comes out talking to his friend/patient and is just chit chatting away, doesn't acknowledge us, goes in to the back. At this point I know we're not staying so we wait until the woman is done with the paperwork, but then ends up leaving because the girl behind the desk doesn't know how to charge her and tells her that she'll be called later. I wait about a minute after the previous patient leaves and approach the woman behind the desk and tell her I want to cancel my appointment and at that point she decides they're finally ready to see us, I decline because if this is the kind of service they will provide for future visits, I'd rather see someone a bit more professional than them. Stay away, terrible customer service, with all the great post before me, I guess they've gone downhill. read more

Why such high reviews? I'm not certain why my experience was so much less than others here. First off, they were really hard to reach. Took me three days to get someone on the phone, and I left messages! Once I was able to speak to someone, I explained my situation (wisdom teeth needed to be pulled) and that I was in a lot of pain. They didn't even try to get me in sooner than the following week for a "consultation". Okay, benefit of the doubt, maybe they were just super booked. The other reviews were so good and they're convenient to my house, so I waited. Day of my appointment came and I was so relieved. The office is nice and staff seemed okay. Cool x-ray machine, way more high tech than other places I've been. Dr. Kevin was nice, but didn't really seem to have the scope to cover what I needed. Everything he suggested would be done by someone else he partnered with. Um...okay. The tech who helped me also seemed to not really know what was going on. She was really struggling with explaining my options. When I checked out at the reception desk, she had only written notes for them on one of the three things we had discussed - that being the extraction of my wisdom teeth that apparently needed to be done by another dentist who only comes in so often. Because that was my biggest issue at the time and the cause of the pain, I was willing to let the other stuff go for the time being. The receptionist/front desk person assured me they would contact me ASAP once they confirmed the other dentist's schedule. I again stressed to her that I was in a lot of pain and would do whatever was needed to get in quickly. Well...it's two full work weeks later and I still haven't heard from them. I even left a voicemail to follow up! Really disappointing experience from the get go. Finding a good dentist is stressful enough. To have such a careless approach to customer service is just bad business. I put a lot of stock in Yelp reviews, but this time they were way off. read more

This month I was visiting some friends in Austin when I broke my front tooth eating some babyback ribs. So I asked around for a dentist and one of my friends recommended Nuyu in Round Rock. I found them online and was able to get an appointment that day. When I went to their website I was able to fill out all my paperwork online before I even got there. Now I've been to some decent dental offices in California but this one was the best dental office I've been to hands down! The staff and doctor were very professional, attentive, and welcoming! The dental assitant (I think her name is Brittany) was very gentle and calming. I felt like I could trust her with my gums. But the best part was that they TOOK MY DENTAL INSURANCE (metlife baby)! Even though I was an emergency patient, I was taken in and seen promptly. While I waited they provided me cold lemon water to drink and the internet which I used to check my email. When Dr. Kim saw that my tooth had broken (it had previous work done), he fixed it so it looked so good that I couldn't even tell there was a filling anymore. Whew...now I can go downtown without looking like a scrub. HA! I am so GRATEFUL for Nuyu dental!!! Thanks Nuyu team and Dr. Kevin!! Dr. Kim is not a conservative dentist! A conservative dentist is one who only recommends dental procedures on teeth with a high likelihood of causing future dental problems. During my initial dental exam, Dr. Kim did find one significant cavity that obviously needed filling. However, he also recommended several thousand dollars worth of other work associated with replacing a variety of old fillings that had tiny bits of discoloration at the edge of the fillings. He showed me pictures of the suspect teeth, and what I saw was very minor, apparently dormant, decay spots at the edge of existing fillings. I have had a couple of like spots on various teeth that have been dormant for 10 to 15 years. His plan included removing a variety of existing fillings and crowns, performing a variety of root canals, and then adding several new crowns. To say that Dr. Kim is not a conservative dentist would be a serious understatement.... read more

Went in after reading all the good reviews, walked out annoyed and in PAIN! We just moved to RR so in need of a new dentist. I made the annual exam and cleaning appointments for both my husband and I since the reviews are great. Mine appt: Briedly talked to dr. Kim. He recommended that I have all of my wisdom teeth out just in case, which would be done at some other place with his referral. The teeth weren't bothering me so I refused. Then, it's off to the meanest Hygienist I have ever met. She said my teeth were in such bad shape, she needs an extra appt to clean them. The cleaning was excruciating, and she made rude comments the whole time. My gum was bleeding on and off for days afterward. Husband 's appt: He was told he needs a deep cleaning and some filling for a chip on his front tooth, starts at $2000 just for the cleaning. He declined the offer, said he just want the regular cleaning. They refused to do it, citing that the insurance would not cover a regular cleaning. So it's $2000+ or nothing. So he walked out. Needless to say, I also canceled the follow up cleaning appt with the awful Hygienist. Going back to our old dental office in Austin. Good grief!!! read more

Dr Kim & his staff are really great! The waiting room is very nice and updated and has a kids nook too. My first appointment was quick, painless and came with tv watching while i sat back and let them do their thing. My insurance company didn't properly cover my appointment(s) and the staff was quick to notice and handle immediately without me needing to be involved. Fantastic! We have been looking for a new dentist for a while now, in the Round Rock are. After extensively reading reviews, calling to see who accepts our insurance, etc. finally decided on NuYu based on all the awesome reviews and glad I did! We have to take an elderly relative in for dental work and found that we made an overpayment and they said they would refund our money. It's now been almost 2 1/2 months and we are still trying to get our $ 120.00 refund . I don't think this is very professional at all, being told checks in the mail twice, someone will call me back, then, we only send out refunds at end of month, and STILL 2 1/2 months no refund. Summary: This dental office will only do what's best in their interest and not what's best for their patients. I highly recommend you look elsewhere for a dentist as this office's professionalism has tanked over the past two years. They used to be really good but our last 4+ visits have been a combination of them cancelling last minute, asking me to move my appointment up, or Dr. Kim leaving early and not even following up on my six month exams. They also make scheduling very difficult. Their appointment time slots start late in the morning and they even close thei roffice early (last appointment is on 3pm some days). This makes it very difficult for working people to find a flexible appointment time slot. What's even worse is my wife recently had a 3pm appointment. Our kids don't get out of school until 2:40 and my wife called saying she was going to be maybe ten minutes late for her 3pm appointment and they told her that's not acceptable and she must reschedule. It's constant and recurring issues like this why we felt it's best to share our review for potential new customers and help you understand why we are now looking for a new dentist after being with them for 5+ years. read more

Had another great experience today at NuYu Dental. Valerie greeted me by name as soon as I entered. She was very gentle making sure she did not cause any pain during my cleaning. Valerie talked to me the whole time and made me forget I was sitting in the dental chair, she offered my some helpful tips to keep my oral hygiene up that will reduce plaque around my teeth. Hailey also always has a smile (that you can even see through her mask), with a kind greeting. You will never enter this office and not feel welcomed. Maria and Bivi are very personable and both have such a kind and warm spirit. The office manager Susan is the absolute best and I am sure keeps the family atmosphere in tact. I just found out that Dr Grahl will be relocating, I want to wish him the best in his new endeavors, he is a ray of sunshine, who always enters the room with a big smile and positive energy. He makes me feel comfortable and always makes sure that I am not in pain and that my dental work feels good. Dr Grahl you will be truly missed. This people in this office are like a big happy family. If you are looking for a place to take care of your dental needs at a reasonable price, then NuYu is the place for you. I use to have anxiety issues before going to the dentist until I found this little piece of dental heaven. I appreciate every worker in this office. Definitely give this place 5 stars for customer service! I am terrified of dentists-- to the point that I has purchased all my own dental cleaning tools and was trying to do it all myself. Had a very bad experience as a kid and never really got over it. But, I absolutely HAD to go to a real dentist and started looking around. So glad I landed here Dr. Kevin and his staff were AWESOME. The hygienist was really gentle and kept me at ease during the cleaning. I needed some fillings, and they suggested I go ahead and use the nitrous. After reading all the great reviews I decided to give them a call. Lucky me, they had a cancellation and I Was able to go the next day. I was nervous about bringing my two kids (6&3) along but had no choice. When I arrives I noticed it was a very nice and clean place. The girls were all very nice and did not seem annoyed by the kids at all (they were behaving very good I may add). My cleaning and checkup went very smoothly. Dr. Kim is incredibly nice, and really makes you feel completely comfortable. The problem I ran in to was the billing. I had a few fillings and my insurance wouldn't even pay what they were charging because it was so far above the "standard rate" for other dentists. Then, when I needed a filling adjusted because it was not filed down correctly, they charged my insurance again for an "emergency visit"! Why in the world would you bill the insurance because you didn't get it right the first time! If someone truly stands by there work, they shouldn't charge a fee to fix their mistakes. Plus, my jawbone ended up being sore for at least a week after due to the injection they gave me, and I have had at least 15 fillings in my life, not a single one of them ever hurt that long after. read more

I had the best experience this morning at NuYu. I called last minute and they were able to bring me in right away. I had a broken molar and they were able fix it right away. They were courteous, the office was sanitized, they were accommodating, and super nice. I felt comfortable from the time I walked until I walked out. So I haven't been to the dentist in about a decade, so imagine my hesitation when the time came to get off my butt and establish care with one when my wisdom tooth put me in misery for 5 days straight. I had my first appointment with Dr. Kim on 9/10. The office has such a calm and clean feel and it's just beautiful. I felt like I was at a spa, and not at the dentist. Haley and the other front desk lady were very nice and inviting and made me feel welcome. The dental assistants were also respectable and showed great hospitality! Dr. Kim has wonderful bedside manner and is very communicable and in tune with what you want. Rather than saying what he wants to happen and that's the last word, he asks you first what you think you want to happen, and then follows with his professional opinion. His office was not far away from my home and he was able to see me within 24 hours after my fall.My teeth were very badly damaged during my fall. I did a lot of research to find an office that had extended hours and one that specialized in restorative dental procedures. I had appointments made for my fiance and I to start using them, but unfortunately had to cancel due to some unforeseen medical emergencies. During the time we were waiting to reschedule, my fiance chipped a tooth... on a holiday. I text the emergency number to see what we could do to get in quickly and Dr. Kevin gave great advice on what we could do until we could get in the next week. We went in, had the consultation, and made an appointment to get the tooth fixed. Since my fiance doesn't have insurance yet, we were told we needed to speak with the finance person that was only in the office a couple of times a week. Long story short, over a month later, we finally talked to the finance person who told us "We don't do in house financing." Why make us wait so long if you don't even offer it? Especially after we were told that it was available. In the mean time, I've called to get my new patient appointment set up and have never received a phone call back. I am disappointed in the customer service from the front desk. Dr. Kevin was a perfect fit for us, but I can't deal with an unorganized front desk. Hopefully he will get that straightened out and his business will be prosperous. We will have continue our search for a dentist that better meets our needs as a family. read more

These guys do a great job! They take care of both my kids and myself. I had terrible tooth pain from my wisdom teeth so I called and asked if it would be possible to get it pulled (on very short notice mind you). They had me fill out some forms online and when I arrived everything was set and ready to go. When I arrived the staff took me in right away and did and excellent job. Wow, a dentist visit unlike any other. The receptionist Leila was friendly on the phone while setting the appointment, confirming that the office accepted my dental insurance. I was able to complete the new patient paperwork online prior to my visit, saving me time when I arrived at the office. I was seen promptly after spending a few minutes in their small but cozy waiting room, and taken to a standing 360* x-ray room. Linda, the dental hygienist, was friendly and made the experience comfortable. The actual exam room was soothingly decorated and featured a suspended television that they have on to provide a nice distraction while they work (you are able to keep the remote to change channels). Linda was excellent, explaining everything she was doing and keeping my comfort in mind the entire time. Dr. Kevin Kim is personable and took pictures of my teeth before the cleaning, which they show you on the aforementioned television. He was gentle and thorough, explaining to me what he was doing before and during each step of my routine cleaning. I requested an "after" picture of a particular area of staining that he'd cleaned and polished, and he happily complied. The difference was startling! He also showed me where I had some gum abrasion from previously brushing too hard, and made a couple of suggestions for future work if I wanted it. At no time did I feel pressured to get additional treatments beyond the general cleaning for which I originally came. As a new patient that hadn't been to a dentist in four years, they had some x-ray work to complete beforehand which took some time. Overall I was in and out in about 90 minutes. I recommend Dr. Kevin and his staff highly and will be encouraging my wife (who has fabulous teeth but doesn't care for the "dentist" experience) to schedule an appointment with them shortly. read more

I can finally state that this place is AWESOME!!!! The location is very convenient to my workplace and the decor is so relaxing. Can you believe I am a Veteran totally terrified of any dental procedure due past experiences. The staff was so very accommodating. It was such a smooth administrative transaction to come on board as a new patient with the help of Ms. Cissy, Ms. Haley, Ms. Susan, Ms. Christy, and Ms BiVi (to include anyone I overlooked). Dr Kim and Dr. Tarana actually listened to "everything" I relayed in regards to past procedures and treatments. They provided me with a step by step course of care. The staff offered any available financial assistance as necessary (hopefully in the near future I will be able to use my dental savings card). The days of my cleaning, tooth extraction, filling and crown prep was a piece of cake although my nerves had me shaking like a leaf - Everyone took great care of me (I also want to mention I watched HGTV through my procedures). We visited NuYu based on Yelp reviews, and we are so glad we did! We called NuYu because my daughter had something strange on her gum, and they were able to fit us in that same day. Their office is very nice and has a TV in the waiting room as well as in the treatment rooms, which made it way easier with my 4 small children. The staff were super friendly and professional and welcoming. They saw us on time and even offered to let me take my other children back into the treatment room. The dentist, Dr. Kevin, seemed very knowledgeable and spent quite a bit of time with us. He recommended that we try the least invasive option first, and only take further measures if we had to, which I really appreciated. They were also very reasonably priced, which was important to us as we were self-pay. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. It's clean The staff is nice. Appointments, and follow up appointments were easy to schedule. The atmosphere is relaxing and everyone. If somethings is wrong, they make it right right away. Hard to find service like that these days. I have gone the the "franchise" dental places in the past, but I never will again.
