Beautiful space, delicious food, convenient location. We eat here every time we are up at Cal as the atmosphere on the patio is great day and night. We order lots of appetizers, salads, pizzas, etc to share and adults and teens have never been disappointed. Service is not super speedy as it's a small operation, but if you can relax into the space it's well worth any wait. We have never felt rushed, like we have at some other Berkeley establishments. Was looking for a lunch spot for hubby and mum, and came across Heroic Italian x Lots of 5 star reviews so decided to give it a go and we are so glad we did. Service was super friendly and attentive which is always a huge plus for me. My hubby was happy they had a local - Gilman Brewing Co - IPA x Mum had chicken Caesar with extra anchovies - she was definitely a happy camper. I absolutely loved this cafe. It is seems simple but each of their art prices are very unique. I love the outside patio area as well, felt like home. You order through a QR code on the menu and the food comes out pretty quick. I ordered the ravioli with marinara but I asked for it to be spicy and it was delicious! They added Calabrian chilis too it, creating the perfect amount of heat. Stopping here was a great choice for me after a busy and stressful week at work. read more

We were going to a play at Berkeley Rep. Theater and needed to be sure we could get there by 7:00 pm. I called the restaurant to make sure that would not be a problem, and the manager said their kitchen staff was efficient and that would not be a problem. The problems started when we got there and had to order using a QR code and prepay, as if we were ordering takeout. I have no problem with the QR code, but I don't like putting my credit card online if I can avoid it. But when I asked if I could pay by giving the manager my card, he pointed to the ordering system and said we had to do it that way. So I did, and included a tip. My chicken tetrazini came pretty quickly, and it wasn't bad. But my wife's lasagna didn't come at the same time. We waited. And waited. She told me to start eating or my food would get cold, so I did. We waited some more, and then her food finally arrived. She didn't like her lasagna, and said it had too many herbs. I told the manager that we were unhappy and that I wouldn't have given as big a tip if if I'd known how bad the service was going to be, since I had to put the tip in before we ever got our food. He said he would "talk to the owner." So, if you go, don't put a tip on your credit card, just decide whether you want to tip after you get your food and after you see what kind of service you get. read more

The best in every way! Food was delicious. Service was amazing, very personal and special. And atmosphere was chill and relaxing.

So we were out on a Sunday with our kids. My partner wanted sandwiches. We ended up here, and I'm not at all mad about that. Pleasant outside seating area, the OMG sandwich was very well balanced and not overwhelming. We ordered a pinsa for our fairly picky kids and they actually liked it. The wines by the glass were approachably priced and of solid quality. Extremely friendly and warm service. Highly recommend. Definitely will return. read more

Outdoor space is nice. Bread very good. $1 charge for Parmesan? For a meal that cost $130 including tip for 3 people! People were nice, but outdoor service negligible, perhaps because it was so cold outside. Wish they offered a dinner salad as had to order a full one $19 just to get a salad. Just WOW! Once again Heroic Italian exceeds my expectations! I held a 35 person private event on their outdoor patio and it went incredible! Everyone enjoyed the food, especially the Pesto Pizza, it was a standout favorite! The service was a 11/10! The entire staff is wonderful, friendly, and on top of everything! All the logistics of planning a small event was also very smooth. The owner, David, is phenomenal. He was accommodating and made sure the event was seamless. I would give Heroic Italian 6 stars on Yelp if I could. All around amazing experience from food to service. I'm excited to host more events at Heroic Italian in the future! I just picked up dinner for tonight. The service is wonderful and friendly. I love the Gladiator salad and Bambi sandwich.

I really love the ambiance and staff at this place. Being in a restaurant where you the people who are working actually seem to enjoy what they're doing makes such a huge difference in the experience. I am a huge fan of Heroic Italian in Berkeley. The patio is beautiful and comfortable; the staff are friendly; the food arrives quickly; and most importantly, the food is delicious! How this place shows 4+ stars, I will never now. It's restaurant prices at lunch counter service and ambience. I've been to other places like Top Hatter that use QR codes where you still feel some connection with the waitstaff. From the minute we arrived it just felt like no one gave a $hit. The food was below mediocre. Pasta dish (maybe pasta marinara) had so little sauce it was dry as a bone. I paid $1 for "extra Parmesan". That's a misnomer since there is no Parmesan on it to begin with and it was probably a tsp of Parmesan for $1. I asked for extra sauce which he did bring (after a good 10 minutes) and then I regretted asking for it as it was over herbed as another guest said. The "crostini" is more like hot bread. There's no crost in the crostini in other words. I will say we enjoyed the cheese plate. My husbands pesto pasta was dry as well and also very unremarkable in quality and taste. This was one of our first times out in awhile and we were really looking forward--it was pretty disappointing. read more

The sandwich was good quality but they got most of it wrong and in the end, it was a $25 sandwich with meat, cheese and tomatoes. People should just be aware. I ordered the OMG with burrata instead of smoked mozzarella and regular mayo instead of truffle mayo. They forgot the Giardiniera, the artichoke spread, the olives and the mustard. The mayo was on the side which is ok but I had no knife and had to spread it with my finger in my car. First world problems for sure! I tipped 15%, plus tax and possibly an upcharge for switching cheeses, a $17 sandwich ended up costing me $25. Not worth it, It was also too small to share with my partner. However, the two employees working were very friendly and that makes a big difference. If this sandwich was $10 cheaper, or even $5, I'd be back. read more

Honestly the sandwich was good but it outrageously expensive. Ordering for delivery is totally out of the question, after fees and all that a single sandwich will run you 32+ dollars. Now, I know that isn't their fault, these apps are taking plenty of the cut. All I know is I can easily get better deals elsewhere. As for in the store, like I said, sandwich was good. But, I still dropped 20 bucks on it. If you want chips and a drink along with it you're on your way to 30 - for a sandwich and some chips. Want wine with your lunch? Great, be prepared to spend 50 bucks. If money is no object, it's a good sandwich in Berkeley for lunch. read more

We were very pleased to find this almost hidden gem in a downtown Berkeley. Smallish restaurant but with a spacious outside courtyard. Their antipasto appetizer and salad were both very nicely prepared. Highly recommend their excellent pesto pasta with shredded roasted chicken.
