Lured in by the raving reviews. First impression was that this is a popular restaurant suitable for families and dates. I mean they've been around for like 50 years now. I'm not too adventurous so I can only speak for the pizza. The pizza was heavier on the crust, which made it just a little bit awkward to fold. The overall pizza itself was still kinda thin. Flavor was decent. Price was a bit on the higher end. Love the bread though. Fresh out and went well with the olive oil. Not sure why they offered me a second one then didn't bring it :( maybe it's one per table but oh well.

My friends and I were craving for some yummy Italian food. With a quick yelp search, we found this restaurant. The place was full but the server was gracious enough to get us seated in the outdoor area. We ordered the michelangelo pizza and the pesto ravioli. The ravioli was filled with sheep milk cheese and we couldn't wait to try it out. They offered some complimentary bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The bread was delicious. The food came out pretty quickly. The pizza was cooked to perfection. The flavors were bursting in the mouth. There were adequate vegetables on the pizza, which was appreciated by us. The pesto pasta was tasty too. The pasta itself was super soft and tasted fresh. The sauce was not overpowering and was well balanced. All in all, we had a great time! The food was authentic, yummy and fresh. We will definitely going back again.

This may be my favorite Sicilian restaurant in Berkeley. The bread they serve is warm. That's important. The house red wine in a carafe is most pleasing. The mixed vegetables are the best. The vibrant colors and cooked to perfection! When is the last time one got excited over veggies. The meatballs are a must. You get two although they may of seemed slightly smaller than last time I was here. Again if it's to be served warm it better be and it was. I chose the tortelli Campagnola. I was not expecting this to be so wonderful. I've never experienced this entree before. The tiramisu not only was enormous but darn good. Service was good. Who I perceived as the owner was in hyper drive. I love this place. On the smaller size for interiors but well worth patronizing. No reservations accepted.

Overall, I have no major complaints and the staff were all very friendly and attentive. I was just not very impressed with the food, given the prices. I had the Fettuccine Alaska ($28) that was just very...basic. Both in appearance and taste. The cream sauce wasn't very flavorful, and adding parmesan cheese on top didn't make too much of a difference. The smoked salmon didn't taste that high quality either. Not that it was bad, but it was simple enough where I feel like it would've been easy enough to just make at home for a fraction of the price.

We came here on a whim around 5pm on a Friday night. They were so welcoming right off the bat! Our food was excellent, the free bread was a nice touch, and the attentive staff were great. The spaghetti noodles were perfectly cooked and the gnocchi was soft like little pillows. We can't wait to come back. The kind and family-like staff really made it so nice.

Insanely authentic and delicious Italian food! Very much family owned and super cozy inside. Our waiter was so friendly and gave us great recs for our dinner! He also threw in a full bottle of wine + extra meatball on the house. The meatballs were the best I've ever had! And the pasta was absolute perfection. I will def be back!

Prefect spot for great Italian food! Food melted in my mouth - Pasta was amazing, with perfect sauce and perfectly soft meatballs. Lively environment, with many customers so make sure you get there early. Waiters were friendly and answered my questions about the menu.

This is such an amazing Italian restaurant I've been going here for so long and I really love the pizza and the Linguine con sugo is great. I know people who work there and it has a great atmosphere.

Truth be told, Jamie W. and I have walked by this always crowded spot dozens of times, and while I knew it would be good based on my historical pizza gluttony at the Piedmont Avenue location, we also knew it would be carb central, so we kept walking, that is, until we were feeling in dire need of familiar comfort food on a cold, brisk evening. Go early. It opens at 4PM, and I'd suggest getting here before 5 unless you're willing to wait in the small side room that looked like the elevator for the Empire State Building. We started our dinner by sharing a Focaccia Bread (photo: https://yelp.to/OP-Jkb54NO) the $18 Sautéed Seasonal Vegetables straight from the farmers' market - broccolini, cauliflower, mushrooms, romanesco, and cherry tomatoes (photo: https://yelp.to/jWTfA8IZAt). A nice healthy start that segued to our individual pasta orders. Jamie had their signature dish, the $17 Tagliatelle al Sugo with a couple of their huge Meatballs (photo: https://yelp.to/npYLdmdog-). It was a simple fresh pasta, very thin, covered in tomato sauce. Light but given heft by the moist meatballs. I went for the more luxuriant $27 Pappardelle Bolognese (photo: https://yelp.to/4z7SAfimVU). Famous for the eight-hour stewed beef and pork shoulder ragu that coats the noodles, the pappardelle was velvety good providing a highly carnivorous delight. You would think we would've been fully sated by now, but we decided to indulge in the $13 slice of Tiramisu, a delightful housemade confection, surprisingly light (photo: https://yelp.to/tuk4dJFmUt). The crowd was out the door when we left. Yeah, go early. FOOD - 4 stars...true homestyle cooking, good size portions AMBIANCE - 3.5 stars...constantly crowded SERVICE - 4 stars...attentive server TOTAL - 4 stars...definitely need to stop more often...but early RELATED - Exploring Berkeley? For one it brings back so many good memories, Blondie's always makes me happy. The second reason is they now have 100% BEEF PEPERONI! You heard me, 100% BEEF PEPPERONI! For some people that's not a big deal. For someone who hasn't eaten pork their whole life & always has to avoid getting pepperoni on their pizza, its a HUGE freaking deal. I love, love, love when the rare occasion happens that I get to enjoy BEEF PEPPERONI on my pizza. OK besides that, the pizza is amazing. I was literally closing my eyes and in my happy place the whole time. Now for those that never had BEEF PEPPERONI, please go try it. It is so much higher quality than pork pepperoni, so I've been told. I plan to make many more trips in the near future, thats how excited it made me. By the way I loved the cheese just as much, yum yummy. Pro tip: parking is hard, obviously, downtown Berkeley and all. So either walk, Uber, find parking, take the bus, or do as I do and tag team it and drop off a friend to go order for the whole car and drive around until they are ready to be picked up. Do what you have to, just get there. Now go enjoy yourself, you can thank me later.

We were greeted by the friendliest server (a tall guy with curly hair whose name I unfortunately didn't get but shout-out to him) who asked us if we had any questions about the menu. My friend and I had already glanced at the menu when we checked in with the host, so we pretty much knew what we wanted. I did ask our server about crust options though and ended up going with the New York style because I didn't have the stomach capacity for the slightly thicker options like Detroit but perhaps next time with a bigger group! We ordered The Standard, which seemed like a good choice because of the diverse, balanced toppings, and the chicories & beets salad. The salad arrived quickly, and the pizza was brought to our table soon after. I liked how refreshing and crisp the salad was, but the pizza was really what I wanted. It was everything I wanted in a pizza - definitely the best choice of the lineup imo. The crust was so soft and pillowy I couldn't resist devouring it all and leaving no trace. I'm very much a crust gal. Glad the plan to hit up Rose Pizzeria didn't work out so that we could discover this gem. With the various styles of pizza options available, there's sure to be something from the menu for everyone here!

We tried a Sicilian style pizza that was super delicious - the crust was thick and fluffy and aromatic, with a perfectly light crunchy bite - no soggy bottoms here, folks! It almost doesn't matter which flavor, but we had the Ray J which was a delightful blend of sweet and savory. In contrast, we also tried a seasonal vegan pizza prepared in the thinner-than-Sicilian Grandma style - this was also delicious and the crust was satisfyingly crunchy. We appreciated the quality ingredients and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The arancini balls were pretty good but the stars were the pizzas. Service was efficient, helpful, and friendly - Laura herself was on hand to make recommendations and answer all our questions. The space had a nice vibe and was clean and comfortable. Parking wasn't too bad - found a spot two blocks away. Will return to try more pizzas, as well as a pasta dish. If you're ever in the area, I do recommend that you check it out. This pizzeria has been around for 3 years and we want it to stick around for a long long time.

The biggest issue was that the food no longer seemed to have the same level of care and quality. The spicy Caesar, which I had enjoyed in the past, was surprisingly flavorless. The mushroom pizza was decent, but it was overly charred and lacked the balance and attention to detail that once made it stand out. It wasn't bad--it just wasn't exceptional, especially for the price. What made the experience more frustrating is that the prices haven't reflected this decline in quality. Even my spritz felt skimpy, with the glass mostly filled with ice. The service didn't help. To be fair, the staff have never been particularly warm or attentive, even during the years when I loved the food, so that wasn't new. The difference is that when the food was outstanding, it was easy to overlook the indifferent service. Now that the quality seems to have slipped, it stands out much more. Nine months ago, I would have enthusiastically given this place five stars. Now it feels like corners are being cut while the pricing remains the same. I hope this was an off night, but based on this visit, it's no longer the restaurant I used to rave about and will no longer recommend.
