Firstly, this is a cafeteria for LBNL employees, affiliates, and official visitors only. That said,…read moreif you are working on the hill and do not have time to take the bus down into Berkeley, this is just about your only option for lunch! There are three or four different stations set up that provide different types of food each day. There's a grill station for hamburgers and wings, a Mexican food station, a salad bar, and at least one more. The variety of options is nice, although there's definitely not anything very unique or special about the offerings here. Prices for entrees average around $9, while side items are typically $2-4. I ended up ordering the "lab burger" with a side of garlic fries. The burger and fries were decent, and I was pleased with the bacon, sprouts, and avocado toppings. Somehow it appeared as though the entire cafeteria had run out of ketchup, but there was still sriracha available. At the end of the day, this place is a cafeteria and it knows it is a cafeteria. Tables can be a little dirty, there is no exceptional service, and the food is nothing special for the price. The redeeming qualities would be the ease of access for LBNL employees and the beautiful view out towards SF from many of the tables. The water here was full bodied and on the softer side.

They had three different stations with a salad bar. Grill station had hamburgers and wings, a Mexican food station, a salad bar, and at least one more. The variety of options were nice, although there was not anything special the menu. Even more, prices for entrees averaged around $9+, while side items are typically $2-4. With a drink, that average price was $15. For the quality of the meal and the average food, it was not worth it. Their service was decent. For example, today, I ordered steel cut oatmeal; I purchased it before the line got long. But I waited 30 minutes. I asked the chef, and he rudely looked at me. And then addressed me that he would take care of it. He went away. 15 minutes passed. I asked another guy, and he said it was going to take an additional 10 minutes. I had to go back to work, so I left without the oatmeal and my refund. Rating Food: 2 Service: 3 Ambience: 4 (Great view of the Bay Area from the hill top, especially on a clear day.) Price: 2 Overall: 2 Unfortunately, this is the only option. But it is worth taking the bus to campus restaurants.

Dropped in here while my car was getting worked on.  Not sure why the less than stellar reviews 'cause I thought it was great. Also for a restaurant to be open this long is an achievement especially after what occured needlessly. I had the Spinach and Artichoke Frittata on a bed of potatoes and greens off of the Spring Specials menu. In my opinion this needs to be on the daily menu. I love a good fritatta and this was probably the best I can remember as far back as I can recall. It was packed with spinach and artichokes and just enough egg and cheeses to hold the whole thing together. Very filling. The dried tomato pesto on top was a very nice touch. Coffee was great and service perfect. Even though there is a  self serve coffee and water refill station staff continually came by to fill coffee and water and just check on me. They also have beer and wine and for the ladies....Momos!!!!! There is a parklet on Dwight as well as seating against the building. Next time I need to wait for my car or find myself hungry in Berkeley I'm coming here. And great music. Side note: Originally opened in 1979 and sold to Collin in 2011 who used to be a customer growing up in the area and actually worked here before owning it and still runs daily operations. So the story goes.

The lavender latte was so bad...had to throw it away. The cardamom latte was okay...but just tasted like a latte. No taste of cardamom and no complex flavors within the coffee brewed. For these two items, we paid $16. Complete waste of money.

The donut dish had a nice texture and a fresh seafood flavor. The mushroom cappuccino had purple powder which was aesthetically fascinating and the soup was full of umami. The tasting menu itself started with the crudo, which had a sweetness from the guava broth and a spicy kick from the onion and curry oil. The lovely balance of flavors and textures continued in the Caesar dish with crunchy leaves and the ikura bursting (literally) with deliciousness. The pork belly was hearty and comforting, with a plum sauce and plantains which paired well with the carignane. The smore was a fun spin on a classic sweet snack with a gooey marshmallow. Overall I had fun looking at and tasting the food here. I'd like to come back to try the fish, it smelled so good.
