I've been coming to any of the three locations for 14 years. Albany is my favorite location, I'm not sure what they do different but I have a feeling they season their food a little bit more expertly. They don't have a typical menu you would expect to see from a restaurant. Basically you order, medium or large plate depending on your appetite. The meals are basically similar and change every day slightly. Always, including some kind of multi grain brown rice, greens with mushroom gravy, some kind of legume side, a green salad, and a vegetable side plus soup. I know the Buddhist chefs pray over their food as they cook, and I swear you can feel it in your bones after you eat! This is definitely one of my most favorite spots to eat in the East Bay when I need something filling and good for me. Not only is it healthy, but it is extremely satisfying . Please try this place if it is curious to you at all you won't regret it.

My wife and I just love this place and we always make sure we check it off the list every time we visit from San Diego! My wife eats a plant based diet so I usually go along with her diet when I'm at home. The food is always so amazing! You can absolutely tell that whoever prepared the food put a lot of love and care into it! Everything is cooked perfectly and so flavorful! We tried a couple of the pies for the first time and wow! The texture is so smooth and just delicious! The service is very friendly and inviting! When you walk in you automatically get good vibes!! Great job! Please keep doing what you're doing!!!!

Menu is very simple. You choose a larger or smaller plate, that's it. They change what they are serving twice a day, and i've never been disappointed. Great place if you want to eat healthy. No so great if you want meat though.

Wow! I was visiting family and stopped by here for a quick lunch on my way to the airport. We called ahead for pickup, and the process was fast and friendly. I ordered the full plate and was so glad I did. I ate every bite! The menu is set, but honestly, you couldn't pick better options if you had a choice. My mom comes here once a month, and I would too if I lived in the Bay Area. Hands down, food is medicine, and this place is no exception!

Ask the Community - Shangri-La Buddha Vegan

    Are the pies vegan?

I think all of the food at Shangrila is vegan, but you might want to call them. The pies I tried are yummy.

Is this Potala? Same set up?

Same set up, same food as far as I can tell. IDK if same owners.

Is there outdoor or indoor dining?

    Indoor dining is open.

Dear Shangrila Buddha Vegan chef, could you please tell me whether any of your food is organic? If so, could you please tell me specifically what is organic and what is not organic? I would LOVE to know. Thank you!

If you look at their full name Shangri-La Buddha Vegan Organic Restaurant, I would think that all their food is organic.

Is this the reopening from Potala Cafe!? Is it the same Chef Tenzin?

I decided to try this place because it had lunch Thali (specials) and chicken pumpkin which I thought was interesting. We went there early afternoon and got seated quickly. There's inside and outside seating. I decided on the chicken pumpkin thali, ordered pani puri and a mango lassi. My friend ordered the chicken tikka masala thali. The thali comes in a metal lunch style tray. In each section is something different. It comes with rice, salad, daal, naan, papad, avocado raita, potato cucumber achar, and your choice of the entrees listed. The pani puri came out fast. The dough shells were crispy and filled with a spiced mashed potato filling. The tangy flavor water helped cut through the filling. Just dont put too much of the water on it. The mango lassi was good, a little on the sweeter side. I got the chicken pumpkin medium spicy, which felt like a medium. Chicken pumpkin was velvety, had a decent amount of chicken pieces although a little dry. I could taste the pumpkin which had sweetness. I feel for the price of the lunch Thali ranging from $18-21 depending which entree is a good deal since you can try a few different dishes/sides. I wouldn't mine coming again to try other dishes or happy hour.

I rate this restaurant very highly, thank you check please Bay Area!…read moreFirst of all, plenty of parking on the street with mini Solano Avenue shops to pop your head in. The staff at the restaurant are all very kind and welcoming. They seem to really care about your experience. The setting is quite unique: you're surrounded by a Korean small market yet outside the doors you're in getaway of a back patio with trees and foliage surrounding you. Quite serene. As for the food, the menu is quite vast, which I am happy about since I will be back to try everything! This was our second visit and during our first trip we were very happy with the three items we ordered, Rosé rice cakes, Dupp bop spicy pork belly, and Jang pasta w/ pork belly. My wife and I loved the duck bop spicy pork belly because it was not just a huge cube of meat, but instead, it was sliced fin to take on a lot of the good sauce. Today I had the lunch special, which left me extremely satisfied. The portion size was large as I'm a rather large eater anyway... The Bulgogi beef was seasoned perfectly over a bit of cabbage or greens, white rice, and the kimchi spicy pork belly soup as you will see in the image was bubbling hot. Superb but watch out if you can't handle the heat as it is a bit spicy. I would say the prices are fair as well. Reservations were not necessary and attire is very casual.

I recommend going on a Sunday so the 90 minute street parking doesn't apply. We were easily able to get a table for four without reservation. But it was inside. Most people were sitting out on the patio. The back patio is such a cute vibe. It's like a lush garden with mature trees and shade and string lights. I wish they had a separate entrance for it though. I saw a couple people walking their dogs through the restaurant to get to the patio. The market actually has a pretty big selection of items! They even have several large refrigerators. I've never seen so many types of ramen outside a 99 Ranch. We ordered the palace rice cakes, beef cold noodles, spicy tofu, both fried chicken appetizers, and the jang pasta, and drinks. They have a nice selection of drinks that I haven't seen commonly offered at other Korean restaurants before like several types of Korean tea. Everything was delicious! My personal favorites were the jang pasta, palace rice cakes, and the cold noodles. The noodles were perfect to help cleanse the palate from the heavier and spicy menu items. Ur was tasty even without the vinegar. They were very generous with the amount of beef in the rice cakes. It was more beef than rice cake! The cost wasn't bad either. For four people it came out to $145 before tip. The only other suggestion I have is they install an air curtain or mesh curtains to help keep flies out. I really enjoyed Korean Superette and want to go back and hopefully get some groceries too!
