Cheeseburger cut in half
LPthang S.

I had a great experience at Nations. The younger employee, Selena, was much more welcoming than the others. She listened carefully to my order, got everything right, and was very accommodating. Friendly customer service like hers really makes a difference. Thank you, Selena, for making my visit a pleasant one!

I've heard their pies are really good, so we got one for the birthday cake. We ordered the Cheesecake with Blueberry Topping Pie, made with cream cheese in a hand-pressed graham cracker crust, topped with blueberry compote. It tasted really amazing, it's sweet, with a subtle lemon aroma that would slowly come through. I'd recommend enjoying it with a cup of tea or coffee. I can't wait to try their other pies!

Ordered a fries and burger to-go. The hamburger was piled high with three thick slices of tomato, a big chunk of lettuce and sooooo many rings of onion. It seemed like they were trying to hide the meat. Overall, it was an okay snack (5 oz burger). The fries were made to order and came out super hot and tasty. Coffee shop interior, comfy booths and a fast food-style menu over the cashier. They serve breakfast and make lots of pies.

Chocolate Shake was good. Cynthia and socorro was really friendly and excellent customer service. The warm and rustic ambience is perfect for a cozy a nice lunch

Apple pie with beautifully formed soft serve ice cream on top.

I was in the mood for a slice of pie while in Berkeley on Sunday. Nation's came up as a good option, with a decent selection of pies. I ordered the apple, and the server asked if I wanted ice cream on it. Yes! I have never had pie with soft serve ice cream on top, and such a generous amount. I took it to my table and dug in. Unfortunately it didn't occur to me until my first bite that I should have asked for my pie to have been warmed up first. It would have been all that much better than refrigerated pie. Still, I enjoyed it. Next time I'm in Berkeley for pie, I'll remember to ask.

My husband and I come to this Nation's a few times a month. We enjoy their breakfast, ham and cheese sandwich, and their burgers. The ladies that work here are very courteous and keep the place really clean (thank you to Raquel and Socorro and the African American lady that helped me signed up for their app - great customer service) The food is always fresh and half the price of most popular places near the area. 10/10.

Someone's been eating it!

Stopped by to use the lavoratory after a long trip. I observed that codes were required, and there was signage indicating for "customer use only." The server gave me the code when asked. I ordered a whole cheesecake afterwards with blueberries to take home. It was fresh and delicious. We've eaten off of it a couple times and it is still really good! The ladies working were cordial and efficient.

Eating here was very nostalgic for me. It has been so long since I've had Nation's that I can't compare it to what it used to be but I can say that I wasn't disappointed. And I definitely didn't leave hungry! They don't lie - the burgers are HUGE and filled will all the toppings. I like that they only use mayo and don't add ketchup and mustard because I am not a fan of either. I got a cheeseburger and a side of fries and honestly only ate the fries because I paid almost $4 for them. They were pretty bland and could use more salt. That being said, I'd go back when I'm in the area. I see all the bad reviews about their "terrible service". I wouldn't say they went overboard but they were on par with any fast food establishment these days. I didn't have to ask for anything like ketchup for my daughter's fries as it was on the tray when we got the food. Guess it depends on when you go and who's working.

One of the best spots for a late night snack. Their specialty is hamburgers and fries but they serve breakfast all day and an array of pies. The ambiance is meh, could be more tidy and the service is standard but the burgers are to die for!

Great team member!

Veronica was very friendly and helpful Five stars!!!! Great food.... Can't wait to come back.

Does this look like extra crispy hash browns to you?
Mark R.

I ordered my hash browns extra crispy for a togo order and for one to dine in house. They gave me no ketchup for either order and were very stingy with it when I asked. They did not give me strawberry jam as I asked. I reluctantly finished this dine in order even though the hash browns were not turned to cook them crispy as I ordered them I then asked them to cook the hash browns in the to go order some more but they refused. they said I touched them. yes, if they bury your hash browns under your bacon and toast in a small flimsy cheap cardboard box you will have to touch them to remove those items and discover their idea of extra crispy hash browns is not the same as yours.

The lady at the counter was super nice and personable. She was easy to talk to and friendly. I ordered: * black sesame mochi muffin - nice chew, great sesame flavor, and not too sweet * churro mochi muffin - covered in cinnamon sugar, so good. Great texture as well. * banana bread pudding - looks so ooey and gooey! I took an edge piece because I like the chewy crispy texture. Love to return when I'm back in the area.

Black Sesame Muffin ($4.75): Slightly better than the mochi donut, but black sesame flavor was not distinct enough. *** Overall a solid 3.5 stars for both donut and muffin.

We had been to Tarocco for lunch and figured we would ask them for a quote, too. My daughter warned me that the owner is trying to be an "influencer" on Instagram and posts photos of herself in crop Tops so I should beware, but that's fine by me. We called to get a quote and had a discussion. After we gave the owner all of our information, she told us she wouldn't give us a quote unless we came in person (?!) Which is weird because this isn't how restaurants work. Typically for events restaurants will give you a quote via phone or email for the sake of convenience. We had gotten 3 quotes already from other restaurants via phone. Making us drive 45 mins just to get a quote is a total waste of time. Especially if we can't afford it. So my daughter called again, left a VM explaining we couldn't come in person due to time constraints, and again asked for a quote. No reply. We waited a few days and called again. No reply. Finally we got a voicemail from the owner saying that she didn't like my daughter's attitude ?!!! Apparently you're not allowed to ask this restaurant how much they charge for events unless you're face to face. This lady has absolutely no idea how to run a restaurant. We took our business elsewhere and recommend that you do, too.

I ordered the Sai Oua lava egg plate, pork jowl on the side, and khanom krok. First of all, holy hell, that egg was SO soft and yummy. I loved how it was prepared--the texture was amazing, and it was seasoned to perfection with such a savory flavor. The sausage was good, but the pork jowl was where the meal really shined. Next time, I'd definitely get the grilled pork jowl lava egg plate instead. I can be pretty picky with pork, but this one melted in my mouth and had so much flavor. The khanom krok was beautiful and a great dish to order if you have friends to share it with. For me, one bite was more than enough as a sweet little dessert at the end of the meal. Their jasmine Thai tea was also really tasty. :) I'm so glad I finally got to try this spot and would definitely say it deserves all the hype!

It's also one of those places that makes you want to stay. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and generous. Every time I come here, I tell myself I'll pace myself... and every time I fail because it's just that good. The burgers are loaded and perfectly balanced, the fries are always crisp (never soggy, which is rare), and everything tastes high-quality and made to order. You have to try the chicken and waffles. The waffle batter tastes homemade and the butter takes it to another level... it's one of those dishes you keep thinking about after. I'll even DoorDash it all the way to Jingletown. The patio setup is really well done... there's a mix of larger tables for groups and higher bar-style seating for smaller hangs. The wooden furniture and cushioned benches make it comfortable, and they've got heaters for colder days and umbrellas when it's sunny, so you can usually pick your ideal spot. You order at the window and then just hang out while you wait... it's a relaxed flow and the food comes out pretty quickly. The staff are always kind and welcoming, and the whole place has a relaxed, homey vibe with really good music. Highly recommend... just come hungry.

The food always looked really good, but for whatever reason I always ended up ordering from somewhere else. Well, I finally did it. I finally ordered from Cali Alley, and all I have to say is, why did I wait so darn long? Door Dash was having a 2-for-1 deal on the Cali Alley Burger, so I ordered one of those (and got another for free) , as well as on the small mac and cheese, so I ended up with two of those as well. I got fries as he side for the burgers and saved the second burger and mac and cheese for the next day. I also bought a small side of veggie fried rice for lunch later in the week. OK, let's start with the fries ... wow. Super crispy. Don't know what they do to them, but I think I almost ate all the fries that came with one of the burgers before I even touched the burger. The fries seemed to have a coating like some fries do to make them extra crispy on the outside. Whatever it was, it made them so good, I couldn't stop eating them. I was almost too full for the burger. But who are we kidding? If there is one thing I am good at, it is eating more than I should. The burger, which is described on Door Dash as "char grilled, fresh ground brisket and short rib burger, served on a toasted brioche fun with crisp lettuce, tomato onion marmalade and garlic aioli" was thick and incredibly flavorful. I couldn't stop eating that, either. It was that good. I ordered it medium, and it was pretty pink, but it was sooooooo flavorful, and all the toppings worked well together. I didn't get any cheese on it because I wanted to try to burger by itself and not mask it with cheese. I might try adding cheese next time, but honestly the burger is so good, I almost wouldn't want to cover up its flavor with cheese. Oh, I almost forgot. When you order on Door Dash, you can opt to have them include a small side of their chocolate-chipotle bbq sauce, and I highly recommend that you get it. It's a really interesting flavor and is good for dipping the fries in. I didn't try putting it on the burger, but that might be good, too. The mac and cheese was OK. It's important to note that I enjoyed the flavor but it is more of an eggy consistency than a saucy mac and cheese if that makes sense. It has a nice kick of black pepper, which I liked, though. The vegetarian fried rice was also fine but could have used a little salt. All that to say, don't be like me and procrastinate, get the Cali Alley Burger and fries ASAP.
