Nick the Greek is our go to for casual Greek food. Great food. Relaxed vibe. Something for everybody!

This is the third location I've tried of this obviously popular Greek fast food chain. The Downtown Berkeley location has been operating for well over two years, but even though I'm in the immediate vicinity a lot, I've never tried it before. I have to admit the more Nick the Greek proliferates, the less I feel motivated to try it. That's because my previous experiences have been more middling than exceptional. What led me here was the convenience afforded me from the GrubHub app. I could pick up my order in less than 15 minutes and be on my bus on time. I ordered the $16.95 Prasini Salad with Chicken Gyro (Photo 7). The salad itself was refreshing enough consisting of romaine, scallions, dill, and crumbled feta with lemon zest dressing. The chicken gyro was unfortunately a bit greasy and overcooked. It didn't really enhance the salad. Instead of going for their signature Avgolemono Soup (which I've enjoyed), I probably made a mistake ordering the $5 Fries which had a similar consistency to the chicken (Photo 5). I'm impressed how Nick continues to pop up almost automatically in places with high foot traffic, but I'm hoping the speed of their growth is not compromising execution of their food. Had a salad bowl with grilled veggies and it wasn't as good as I've had at the San Carlos location. The veggies used are bland and unseasoned. Zucchini and large cap mushrooms were all they used. The Zucchini's cut into paper thin slices and there's no flavor. Historically at another location had a lot of different flavor combinations made with a lot of grease like eggplants and zucchini I like this franchise's food in the past but this location isn't the same. read more

Clean location with nice lighting and not too busy. Service was fast and workers were nice. I got a beef gyro pita for $13.78 with tax. Sizeable gyro stuffed with meat, has some vegetables and sauce too. It had good flavor and portions. read more

For a second I was thinking maybe this is better in person but I see the reviews are mixed and in person people are experiencing the same things I did as a delivered order. The loaded fries were super old tasting and very dry and stale and the raw garlic did not taste fresh. The gyro was loaded with onion and the meat was dry and the pita tasted old but I refuse to waste food. I was told it tasted better last time it was ordered by my friend so maybe this was just a bad day where food was sitting for too long but I'm not going to be trying this again. There's a spot on the corner of Hearst and Euclid that is so good and the staff are extremely friendly. I will make the trek and go there. read more

We placed an order from Nick the Greek, it included: rice, pita bread, Greek salad, chicken, falafel, tzatziki sauce and Greek salad dressing. We placed an order to feed 18 people and the the servings were hearty. Everyone really enjoyed the food and we would definitely order from them again. My husband was working at a jobsite on Bancroft and would tell me me how good this place is and as a blue collar that says something cause he is meat and potatoes kind of guy This is more my thing so when I had a job walk there I definitely had to try and man was it GOOD! got the gyro bowl and it was so dam tasty! Had the lamb/beef yet it was so light and refreshing with the cucumber, red onion, delicious sauce that truly took my time eating it at my desk when I got back to work. The lady at the front is very nice and helpful! However I am just really disappointed that I am spending this much on a gyro for literally 6x fries. At first they forgot the fries on the first order, I went back and when I checked it I saw it, but starting to eat, and there is literally only 6x fries on the whole gyro! I try not to be petty on things like this, but 6x fries on a gyro, for $15 is actually crazy! This is literally my LAST time spending my money there! One of the monthly benefits AMEX Platinum card holders receive is a $15 Uber Eats credit. I was scrolling through the deals section in the Uber Eats app and found that Nick The Greek had a BOGO offer on their Gyro Bowl. Two bowls for only a few dollars after the $15 credit is applied is an absolute steal. After I placed my order, I was told my order would take between 30 - 40 minutes to fulfill. However, by the time I arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes later, the food was ready on the counter. The gyro bowl itself is fantastic. The slices of lamb/beef are tender, nicely seasoned, and you receive a very generous portion. I like the option to have the sauces on the side. The yogurt-based white sauce goes well with everything in the bowl, from the fresh lettuce greens to the yellow rice. Make sure you dig deep to the bottom of the bowl to get the rice, otherwise, you might mistaken your order for a salad bowl. Overall, Nick the Greek exceeded my expectations for something available on Uber Eats. Definitely would recommend taking advantage of this deal while its around. read more

First I'd like to start by saying I was genuinely excited to get this food at first. I wanted good mediterranean food, and that's not what I got here. The flavor for everything was really off. Tasted more like a mex-tex seasoning instead. I got their advertised steak bowl, while my friend got a chicken one, and we shared a fries. The portion size for the fries was good, but everything else wasn't. The steak bowl itself had barely any pieces of steak in it, I felt compelled to ask for a refund because it felt borderline offensive. I paid 15+ for a STEAK bowl with only a couple pieces of steak ?? they're already a bar behind even Chipotle on this matter. Truthfully, the only thing my friend and I got close to finishing were the loaded fries, the only semi-close thing to being redeemable. The worker that attended us in front, this slightly older hispanic woman (and I mention this because the cook in the back asked her what's wrong in Spanish, after she looked annoyed over issuing the refund, but I could tell she didn't want to say anything in case I also spoke Spanish). Odd. The ambiance was quiet and semi clean. No customers were in there when we came but a few came after. It was a weird shop. Wouldn't come back here again. A redeeming quality was their spicy sauce and another one they had that I forgot the name of. read more

Came here after class. I ordered the Greek fries and they were honestly lack luster. The fries are cheep quality, and didn't seem to be fresh when I got them. I will say that the service was quick and the staff was nice. The Resturant had ample seating options since it was not busy. I'll have to try something else on the menu next time. read more

I was here for the grand opening back in January (yes I'm late)- and it didn't disappoint. This is a franchise and this location is downtown Berkeley near campus so it's convenient for anyone working/living in the area. Here's the deets: PARKING: Street if you can find it but also close to all sorts of transportation (bus, BART, etc.) FOOD: I ordered the falafel bowl which came with basmati rice, cucumbers, lettuce, onions, tomato and tzatziki. I also ordered the Greek fries which came with garlic. Fries were crispy like I enjoy and nicely seasoned. All the ingredients in the bowl were fresh and tasty. Nick the Greek is a solid chain. I really enjoy the gyro meat. The chicken souvlaki is fine, although not my favorite order. I do wish the fries were crispier. The place is somewhat big for a fast casual spot in downtown Berkeley and it's quick. The bowls don't come with pita, FYI! I do appreciate they let you customize the bowls - if you don't want rice, you can sub salad or fries. The produce with the salad wasn't the freshest, but it's winter, I get it... finding ripe tomatoes anywhere can be hard. Overall, a solid spot for somewhat cheapish eats. read more

Grand Opening on Tuesday, January 23! I love Nick the Greek in Walnut Creek, but now I don't have to go as far to get my fix. They have a bunch of different options depending how hungry you are from gyros and bowls to plates and sides. I ordered their souvlaki plate (skewered pork) over fries with a side salad, pita bread, sauce, and veggies. I love my food seasoned and they definitely do it right. Everything was flavorful and a hearty portion for the price. They have a moderate amount of seating (around 6 tables for 4 and 4 smaller tables for 2) but you'd probably be better off ordering to-go and finding somewhere nearby to eat. They only have one cashier so be patient with them as they figure things out. Staff was super friendly and they even gave out samples of froyo. I will be back :D read more

I was skeptical at first because I know this place is a chain, but wow!!! I hope the quality (and quantity) here continues to stay consistent given that they have just opened. I placed an order online. They were running a bit behind and my order wasn't ready, but I didn't mind the wait. (I was entranced with watching them make the froyo w/ baklava...gonna need to get that next time...) I ordered the beef/lamb gyro pita. The meat portion size seemed just alright at first, but there was way more than meets the eye. I ended up barely being able to finish the pita. It was PACKED with meat. In fact, it was probably 90% meat and 10% vegetables, so it got really salty at the end. I think I'll pay extra to add lettuce and cucumber next time. It needs more fresh vegetables to cut the amount of meat. Overall, a great experience! Hope they keep it up. I'll be returning to try the bowls and dessert. read more

Compared to the other locations in the Penninsula and Walnut Creek, this is the worst Nick the Greek I've been to. The three times I've gone they've screwed up our order, providing us the wrong items, having really soggy stale fries, over saucifying the bowls and giving us salads instead of rice bowls. I do love the concept and we are in desperate need for good Greek food in Berkeley, but I can't go back to this location for at least another 6 months. read more

Even though I was hungry looking for a quick bite to eat nearby, I was delighted to find and discover this spot near the UC Berkeley campus. Good ingredients and I highly recommend the greek fries. I got the chicken souvlaki pita bread ($12.50) and added the combo for $4.50 of greek fries (topped with grated cheese, fresh garlic, scallions, dill) and fountain drink.
