AND it was already paid for (prepay). i have explained this to several hertz representatives, which agreed they had made a mistake. great! then i was charged again, on the card that was in case i didn't return with a full tank (which it was). this is a fraudulent charge. and guess how they explained the charge? they went back to the original story that i returned it in PA!! totally incompetent. called my cc and got a chargeback. lesson learned: don't use hertz. read more

Mediocre experience here. You must go to the desk to pick up keys even if you're a Hertz Gold member. When returning, you need to park the vehicle and then bring the keys inside to the desk. The cars were filthy and appeared to not have been cleaned from the previous renter as I found garbage and water bottles inside the car. I had a very disappointing experience with Hertz. I reserved a specific vehicle in advance, but when I arrived, it wasn't available. Instead of offering a similar option or honoring the original rate, the staff told me I'd need to "upgrade" -- but only if I paid the full higher price. On top of that, the customer service was unhelpful and dismissive, showing little concern for the inconvenience they caused. I expected much better from a company like Hertz. I won't be renting from them again. You can have my gold membership back. Long wait upon arrival but the return was the issue. We were charged a $35 internal cleaning fee and the inside was spotless. Last week while visiting Michigan my daughter rented a car from Hertz. She noticed they charged her extra for insurance but didn't realize it because she had already paid insurance while booking. She tried calling multiple times as did I, to try to cancel the extra insurance they charged her. Finally after several days we were able to get ahold of someone but she was really rude and said they would not refund it. My daughter asked if she could send receipts the lady said no it didn't matter. The biggest problem is we couldn't get ahold of anyone to fix the problem. Checkout was busy my daughter had her 5 yr old daughter with her who she was trying to calm and she was heading to see her elderly grandparents (in their 90s). Rude service, almost $500. overcharged. Been calling the above phone number for 3 days trying to confirm they have after-hours pickup (or at least support Gold Member straight-to-car rentals) as my flight lands near their close-of-business. No one picks up any of the phone number's extensions including: "Additional Assistance", "Lost & Found", and "Road Side Assistance" extensions. Using the "Reservations" extension takes you to a corporate call-center which says they can't confirm this location's after-hours policy, and to call one of the other extensions. I hope you never actually need road-side assistance, because this location will not pick up the phone. If this site every tried to offer and upgrade for road side assistance, I'd tell them they're a scam. read more

Indescribably poor service. No customer service, workstation abandoned by employees, no provisions, no notifications, no regrets or concerns by management. With weather, time of day and other concerns, signed up for the Manager's Special. Called 9 hours before arriving on an 11:30PM flight to ensure desk would wait for last flights in. Phone rang half an hour. Employee advised no one normally answers the phone, ensured a message had been drafted to alert next shifts of 80+ person arriving at 11:30, said not to worry, they always wait until after last flight has arrived. NO ONE was there on arrival. ALL OTHER rental agencies were staffed. Traveler had to overnight at nearby hotel. Next morning, called 3x to ask to speak with manager. Each time employee advised Manager would be notified and would call back. Manager never called. Following day at 4pm, phone 616-233-6353 and 6355 rang for 90 minutes, - never were answered. we rented the vehicle, had it for 2 weeks, didn't do any damage, even took it through a car wash and vacuumed the entire vehicle before bringing it back, we had fill the tank before leaving home, and met my in-laws at a car dealership to get my new vehicle, my Mother in law brought the vehicle back for me, since I had just pi up my new vehicle, and didn't think to then tap off the gas, we hadn't gone to far, so 1/4 of a tank at most, but hertz charged us $75 for what they s 1/2 tank of gas, but even at 1/2 tank $75 is quite high, that was crazy. and it wasn't totally full when I picked it up, but they had it on the screen that just showed how many gallons until empty and no one did a walk through with me read more

Easy experience and great customer service. We landed and the car was ready for us, check-in took less than 5 minutes and the woman at the desk was very nice. We had reserved a sedan and they gave us a mini-suv which was a nice upgrade. When we returned the car, the process was super quick. Upon receiving my invoice I noticed that they had charged me for returning the car without filling it with gas, which was incorrect. I've been a Gold Hertz customer for over 20 years and every time I rent a car from them I ask myself why. Their customer service is atrocious. I arranged for a rental for some recent body work several days in advance to meet me at 9am on Monday. Friday they changed it to 9am. Horrible experience. I booked online and agreed to vehicle insurance when I booked. Upon pick up, I was charged an additional $400 for insurance, which was a totally unreasonable amount and more than the cost of the rental. I tried calling and emailing several times through the course of my rental, starting from shortly after I picked the vehicle up, and no one ever answered the phone or returned my calls. This Hertz location is easy to get to - no shuttle bus ride required. Walk out of the terminal, cross the street, and enter the rental car garage and lobby for the rental car companies. There is no Hertz #1 Gold Board here, but service is pretty fast. I had to wait a couple of minutes as the two people in front of me seemed to require some extra hand holding to get their rentals completed. But when it was my turn, I was at the counter for about one minute, had my keys and was on my way. Returning the car was easy, pulled in, received my receipt from the Hertz agent in the garage, and was back in the terminal in a flash! Great service! read more

Ended up cancelling our previous car rental through a different company because our flight was delayed and the Hertz website said they would stay open until the flight came in. Then I received an email saying I could skip the counter and check in at any time if I registered as a gold member through the app. We did this, but when we arrived we were very rudely greeted by a Hertz employee telling us they closed 45 minutes ago and that we'd have to come back in the morning. When I tried explaining what the website says and the email about signing up through the app, we were dismissed and told to return at 7am. The people at the counter are very pleasant. This review is based on the rental vehicle and customer service after the initial inter action. Within 15 minutes of driving a vehicle off their lot, the low tire pressure indicator came on. Since I was nearly to my destination, I decided to stop at a gas station and fill the tire with air rather than return to the airport. With the tire full of air, my family and I continued to our destination. The next day the tire was low again. I filled it with air again and called the roadside assistance line to replace the tire or vehicle. They promised a 1 hour timeline, 2 hours later they came out and put the spare tire on. Then they left me with the large regular tire to somehow fit in the car with all the luggage (the spare was smaller and mounted under the vehicle- the regular tire doesn't fit). I called Hertz to request they come out and switch the entire vehicle (as the car is now too full to fit the family and tire) or alternatively I offered that they could just pick up their broken tire. They said no to both options and said my only option was to drive the vehicle back to the airport to trade in the car or I could "throw the tire out," but I'd have to pay for a new one. That was after 45 minutes on hold with the supervisor. Thank you Hertz for your stellar customer service. You've proven you could careless about me as a customer or my family's safety. Please inspect your cars for safety before you put them out on the road. Somehow you'll get this car back tomorrow - though we may have to tie the tire to the roof. read more

I rented with Hertz for a while along my travels since 2008, so it was nice to be with them again on my travels to Grand Rapids, MI on a recent October 2016 trip here. Hertz always gives consistently great service each time I rent with them. Only problem For me is that I am not apart of the Hertz Gold club member, since I always go with Priceline to get the best deal for my car rental car, so that kind of says volumes about car rental prices around the industry including here at Hertz. $30/day or more for a standard rental car isn't my cup of tea when you are traveling on a budget, but I'm sure that there are those who think it's no big thing. That's why I'm not part of Hertz's Gold club. With that said, I arrived here in mid October and rented from Hertz for 4 days. I'm glad that the state of Michigan didn't have toll roads, but I asked for a toll pass anyway. The service here was nice, fast, and legit. Being that this was done at Grand Rapids, MI regional airport location of Hertz, it was easy to locate and very easy logistics to get the car and be on my way. The overall experience here at Grand Rapids, MI Hertz is as good as it can be. While I did have an incident on the roads during my rental experience, they took care of me and it was fine. I had worried about something an employee in Hertz Atlanta told me, but the employee at the Grand Rapids Hertz reassured me that I received the wrong information. So, I was happy that all's well that ended okay and it's getting taken care of. This Hertz car rental location is located at the Grand Rapids, MI regional airport. It was super easy to get to since the car rental complex is really next door to the terminal and you just walk out of the baggage claim area, follow the signage, and walk across the street. Many of the national car rental brands are here at this complex, so that was pretty good. Like many of the nation's car rental companies, they accept major credit cards for your purchase. On this trip in Grand Rapids (drove in Detroit), I purchased the LDW insurance as usual, not knowing what will happen on the roads. Most of the time, I drive fine and get to where I need to go, but this time around - while I didn't hit anyone, I damaged the rental car by driving over some dead animal carcass on the road at 5:00am in the morning while trying to fill the gas tank and returning the car for a 6am flight out of Grand Rapids, MI. I only noticed this since there was a weird sound that sounded like something was dragging on the road, as I was driving. Sure enough, the undercarriage of the car was torn and was dragging on the roadway. I was dismayed, but I knew I had purchased the LDW insurance at $24.99/day to prevent this kind of incident from occurring. It may be pricey for rental car insurance, but when stuff happens, you're glad you bought it, versus not having it. The car itself was nice. Drove great and had a USB charger for me to use while charging my iPhone while on the go and playing some Pokémon Go while out in the burbs in Detroit and in Grand Rapids. The car itself was clean and the trunk was spacious. Not sure what the car was, since I didn't take a photo of it. The car rental location was great and very convenient right inside the airport Perimeter, so no off site shuttle to get in and out of. The check in process was nice, but due to the early rental return, I put the completed car rental contract and keys into their lockbox on the car rental counter. I figured it would be safe and sound then. Shortly thereafter, I went through TSA and called GRR Hertz to see what I needed to do for the car. While i was through TSA, I thought I could just file a report in Atlanta, which I thought I did. Come to find out, that wasn't the case. The lady from GRR Hertz called me while in Atlanta and explained the situation to me. I'm glad that I took the LDW insurance, otherwise, i would have been liable for damage. She took down my information and what happened to the car. That was that and she put my mind at ease. Thank you Hertz! Stuff happens on these roads and I'm glad that the LDW insurance worked for me. While it is a revenue source for the company when nothing happens, it's good to have when something does! I do like Hertz for its professionalism and the high quality cars that they have. My husband have been president circle for years (seems like it doesn't even matter anymore) and has never experienced the level of disrespect that we received at this location. We went in to exchange a vehicle that was not up to standard (dirty, no gas, smelled ) The young lady at the desk (Kamaria) was very rude and dismissive, did not listen to our concerns regarding our vehicle and seemed not to care. They didn't have a supervisor in only a lead and she was no better. I understand working with the public is hard, however, we choose our jobs and if you can't handle the public, customer service is not the job for you. This Hertz rental car location is located within the airport. I've use it every time I visit my family in Michigan. I last used it over this past Thanksgiving. Reservations can be easily made online. The desk is staffed late into the night and I've always received friendly, fast service. The cards I've received have always been clean and reliable. I would give 0 stars if that was an option. I never rent from Hertz but have been considering it...until I met the employees here. My travel associate, who rents exclusively from Hertz, prepaid for a car with the Never Lost system. The agent asked if we really needed the GPS. We said yes and he said we could upgrade to get a car with a GPS...REALLY? We said no, you should upgrade is for free since he paid for a car with a GPS. The other agent got crazy mad and told our agent "Do NOT upgrade them for free!" Their final offer was to have us wait until they got a car in that met our reservation. We told him waiting was not an option for us so he offered is a downgraded car at a discount. We took the final offer and, upon return of the car, found that the discount for the downgrade was not applied. Not only that, the charge was actually more than the contracted price. Folks BEWARE! This is a Public Service Announcement regarding Hertz Rental Car! I traveled to Grand Rapids, MI last week for a funeral. I rented a car at the Airport location on Thursday, April 15th and returned it on Sunday, April 18th. Upon return, the attendant got into the car, checked the gas, and checked the rest of the car and said everything was good to go and asked if he should send the receipt via email. The next morning I checked but I noticed that I did not receive the email however I did notice a $500 charge on my credit card. I have attempted to contact this location via telephone for the past five days now- phone just rings and rings and eventually hangs up. I then contacted the 800 number and had the receipt forwarded to me. The representative says the location charged the $500 for a smoking fee and they were not able to reverse the charge - I'd need to contact the location. Those of you that know me - KNOW that I'VE NEVER SMOKED ANYTHING in this lifetime - cigarettes, marijuana, crack, cigars, pipes,...NOTHING!. They will not answer my 30+ calls so I do not even know WHAT I AM ACCUSED OF SMOKING! At this point I figure since I do not know what the $500 they stole from me is for, I'll do my part to give them $500 worth of publicity. So here's my take on what to do IF you're brave enough to rent a car from Hertz ever again: 1. While we had our rental the oil maintenance screen popped up. We took it to the nearest Hertz because we also noticed that they charged the wrong credit card and needed to fix that as well. They didn't have a vehicle the size we needed to swap out. They directed us to the Hertz at Ford International Airport a hour away. Upon arriving there, the lady at the counter told my fiancé to "go change the oil yourself because I haven't met my quota today". No matter what my fiancé said to her, her response was "go change the oil yourself" or "you need to change the oil". She was rude and had a horrid attitude with him. She didn't try at all to achieve customer satisfaction and made it seem like we were the reason she hadn't made her quota by 11am. Good experience with ONE major flaw. If you plan on re-fueling yourself at the end of the trip, do yourself a favor and take a snapshot of your "full tank" mileage BEFORE driving off the lot and when re-fueling leave key in the ignition so you can stop pumping just when the fuel gauge hits the top. I left the lot with 305 available miles on Nissan I rented and when pumped upon return, miles went up to 427 on full tank. The guy at the desk gave me bs spiel about how it couldn't possibly be true and I had no means to prove it. You are welcome Hertz for extra 120 fuel miles I gave you. Couldn't of been happier with my service and car. First I wasn't happy with my vehicle so they let me pick which car I would like more. The vehicle had some damage that I wasn't aware of until I left and the service rep had me send a picture and confirmed it was from a previous rental. Then I forgot something in the car and they made sure to send it to me via FedEx. I have rented a lot with Avis. But when it comes to customer service hands down this was the best experience.
