Meh..have had much better experiences with Hertz at other airports! We flew into Baltimore, and arrived around 9pm. I had already done the pre-check in and my name was on the board when we arrived. Problem was, there were literally 2 cars to choose from. The whole Presidents Aisle was missing in action! While standing there trying to get into one car, a rep came over and tried to check it in to my name. Unfortunately, someone at the counter already reserved it. Thankfully, this Hertz rep was awesome and he saw a car that just had been returned, and he went to get it across the parking lot and brought it to me and checked it out for me. It was a Kia Sportage (2nd time I have received this type of car from Hertz. I like it...small SUV, very comfy, fun to drive, good gas etc). Return was a breeze. They have a shuttle that takes you to the rental car facility. It took about 10 minutes..one of the longer shuttles from airport to rental lot that I have taken. Awful!!! I'm a Gold member. I got the email and text messages that told me to go straight to the garage, find my name on the board. and go straight to my car. When I got there, there was a kind lady in front of the door to the garage directing people to go stand in line. When I got to the line, I was met by several disgruntled customers. Nobody was telling them what to do. No one was telling them what the problem was. One lady had been waiting there for two hours. Hertz had run out of cars and they had no resolution. The desk associates were completely flustered. They said it could be 1:30 hours for a car. They're just waiting until a car came in. I booked my reservation months in advance for a 9 day roadtrip. I paid extra for a hybrid SUV. Doesn't matter here, they will give your car away. Showed up to a sign that said no cars available. I had to wait hours pushing my already tight itinerary back by 2 hours. And guess what, didn't even get a hybrid SUV that I paid for. The customer reps in person treat you like your the inconvenience. They are also short staffed and only had one rep assisting customers. And guess what, you better pay for their plus membership because they get seen first. So while us "little people" were waiting our turn, customer after customer in the "plus" line got to cut us all off. And forget about calling customer service. They don't understand and will even hang up on you. It is sad because I booked Hertz thinking their reputation was excellent and after this fiasco, boy was I wrong. They have really gone down in their quart of service. Reserved-a van and when I arrived they said they had none available. They offered to put me in a sedan which would not work because I had a group of six and needed something with a third row. Eventually they got me in a full sized SUV. It has a lot of scratches around it but it was all they had available. I was assured that the damage had been noted before I exited the lot. At the exit I had another issue. For some reason the vehicle was coming up as not available for rental. So I had to wait for a manger to come out and change something to allow me to leave the lot. Process was very time consuming. I don't know if I will use them again. I used to love hertz. They are usually a little bit more than others but the good service was worth the cost. Now not so much. read more

I rented from Hertz for a business trip at the BWI location. I rode the very crowded shuttle bus from the terminal to the rental location, which took about ten minutes. When I arrived, I was second in line at the Hertz counter. While waiting, the rental agent announced it may be up to an hour before anyone gets a car. I waited roughly 5-7 minutes for my turn. I was checked in within five minutes. I was happy it only took 20-30 minutes to get a car. They called my name, along with a few others, and took us to the gold section where we were advised to pick any car as the keys were in all of them. I chose a four-door midsized car with bearly 7,000 miles. It still had the new car smell. I had to leave extra early for the airport when heading home. I drove into the return area. I was advised to leave the keys in the car, and I could head to the shuttle. Pretty quick return process. I was surprised at the wait to get a car when I arrived. But I hadn't rented post covid. I got charged DOUBLE what my initial charge was for my reservation because, even though I reserved in advance, they did not have the car type I reserved available for me when I showed up. My only option was to upgrade to something they had available but I was charged for the upgrade and they didn't offer a discount or anything. I understand if I didn't have a reservation, but I did. Surprisingly good experience renting and returning my car. Car pickup went pretty smooth even though my Hertz number was not in my record. Although I did get a short lecture from the clerk at the desk, he sent me on my way and my car was upgraded. Return was ultra smooth and easy. I do not enjoy the bus ride from the rental car facility to the airport. But this is not hurt's fault particularly. The bus is crowded and no one is wearing masks. Even though we're on the trailing end of this global pandemic, such a bus ride is a perfect COVID super spreader event. read more

Horrible experience, definitely not the Hertz I used to know. Weeks prior to my trip into Baltimore, I pre-paid for my rental. They had a special where you could rent a tesla Model 3 for 2 days and get 1 free, which is the offer I selected and paid for. I had never driven an electric vehicle, but Hertz made sure they emailed several tutorials on how to turn on and off this particular car and how to charge the vehicle as well. I was confident with all I had learned and was ready to drive the car upon arrival. I arrived at the BWI location for my 9:30 am. appointment on a Friday morning. There was 1 associate at the counter and 3 people in front of me. Twenty minutes later, another associate arrived at the Presidents Circle Desk. Once I made my way to be helped 30 minutes after arrival, the process was fast, and the Hertz associate was professional and friendly. Since I had already done everything online, it took maybe 5 minutes to complete the transaction. The young lady helping me told me to wait on the side while she checked to see if my vehicle was ready. I ended up waiting on the side for about 30 minutes and then was told they were out of Teslas yet had a better vehicle. When I walked outside, they had like 5 vehicles, all small SUVs, and a Polestar EV, which I was unfamiliar with. The associate helping me in the parking lot assured me that the Polstar was similar to a Tesla yet better. It was definitely bigger, but with no other decent options, I took the car and left. On my way out, I asked the man at the exit gate to note that the vehicle was less than half charged. Once outside in the light, I realized how dirty the white car was, and no one had even bothered to run the car through the car wash, which I know is on location, total fail there. The only bright side of this experience is that the car actually did run very well and was pleasant to drive. It took many hours to charge up at my hotel, but it was very cheap to charge. Hertz used to have the best customer service, best clean cars, and overall used to be the best experience amongst other rental companies. Maybe it was simply a busy morning. I am still willing to give Hertz BWI another chance during my next trip to Maryland. read more

Reserved a car weeks in advance. I am a President's Circle member who has used Hertz EXCLUSIVELY for decades. Landed and proceeded to the car rental building on the bus. I entered the building only to see DOZENS of people either in line or waiting in the lobby. I went to the Gold Member board and my name was not on it as it should have been. I went back inside, waited in line only to find out there were NO CARS. NO CARS!!! Hertz, you have ONE JOB...rent cars. How can this possibly happen? This is an F up of epic proportion! I was told it would be an hour before they could get me a car (8pm already. I waited about half an hour and only one guy got a car in that time. I asked him how long he waited and it was 96 minutes. The rental desk closes at midnight...I did the math and did not see anyway everyone was getting a car before then. Took an Uber and rented a car locally at my destination. This was F'd up enough that I am considering kicking Hertz to the curb, as it were. Calls to the customer service desk were useless. No one at Hertz cares about their customers. No one. read more

When asked the person at the counter what had happened as I have experienced the same wait for multiple times recently, the person told me that they don't know and can't tell. Worst experience ever with a rental car company. Car would not start, 2 hour wait for AAA to tell me it wasn't the battery, then they wanted me to wait for a tow truck to take it back to the airport. The tow truck driver couldn't find the hotel and called me for directions and not Hertz who were not interested in me getting to my destination. During this time I was missing the meetings I traveled for. Hertz did not do anything during or after to help me get where I needed to be, thankfully Uber was available. My sister left her IPad in her rental this morning and discovered it after she was at the airport. She called, no one answered. I called, no one answered. They tell you to use their website to report it. I drove to the facility, gave them the reservation number and within 10 minutes I had the iPad! Cars are old. This is the third time I have had to wait for a car as a presidents circle member despite a reservation made weeks before. Buy more cars, or let people rent the rows of premium vehicles sitting there instead of waiting hours or more for a car. There was a family with young kids waiting with me at 9pm who easily could have benefited from one of the at least 20 minivans or SUV's sitting in "reserved" section. I was finally given a 2021 Nissan Sentra with 36,000 miles that I had to ride windows open because it smelled so bad of cigarette smoke and marijuana but since I was on call for work I needed a vehicle sooner than later. read more

I was sent here from my insurance company but when I got here I found out that they did not honor insurance claims. BUT they were just so rude about it. The older white lady called a younger black girl over to the counter that just had the worse attitude cancel my transaction. I asked her if I can have a receipt. She refused to and said that there was no receipt to give. First of all. I have never heard of not having a receipt for anything you purchase or take back. They need to sweep out the staff and start over from scratch with a new staff. Please recruit some people from Chic-Fil-a if you need to. I am highly disappointed that I experienced this at Hertz. Normally Hertz are great. BUT having been issued a Tesla stinking of cannabis (should have been picked up on return and never issued) I was given another Tesla, not charged and dirty in the inside. THEN, with four exits open and eight cars queued to leave, it took 58-mins to exit the garage; a process that takes 2-3 minutes in any other airport in the World. SO customer service took my constructive points and offered me a platitude - thanks Jerimia Green, you must have worked to make that email so patronizing. 'We apologize your car was not ready on arrival' - yet it was parked up and allocated and someone passed it good to go, TOP TIP - stay with Hertz, just never rent from Hertz at BWI as they are clearly poorly led with management who do not care in the slightest. read more

Flew into BWI for the first time on Sunday evening and chose to rent through Hertz as they had a slightly lower price this time than my typical go-to company, Enterprise. There's a courtesy bus that will shuttle you between the airport and the off-site rental facilities just outside of the airport. The busses are clean, and the drivers will actually wait if they see you rushing to make it as they are pulling away. Even if you miss a bus, the next one is only about 5mins behind. First and foremost, the service at this Hertz location is top notch. Everyone from the associate who checks you in, to the people who greet you and welcome you back after you return your car. Didn't meet a single employee along the way who was unfriendly or passed me without a greeting (unlike the typical employee at SFO). After you have checked in, simply head into the garage area to the designated zone (based upon the type of vehicle you rented), and choose any vehicle available at that area. The key will be waiting for you on top of the dash. Only thing that rather perplexed me was that no one seemed to do a vehicle inspection prior to me driving off the lot. Regardless however, I was able to return the vehicle without any issues as I brought it back the same condition that I obtained the vehicle in. My only real complaint however is with the vehicle itself. First off, while most likely due to the fact that I rented a compact, the vehicle had no alarm. This is definitely a 1st world problem, but I can't remember the last time I actually had to manually lock the car with the door lock every time I stepped out. In addition, while it was obvious that Hertz made every effort to clean the vehicle before making it available for rental again, there were many stains and holes on the upholstery of the seating from previous renters who obviously did not care for the vehicle at all. While I realize this is out of Hertz's control, as they certainly cannot be expected to replace the seating every time it gets stained, it also does not leave the best visual image behind. I would also not recommend renting the GPS unit like I did, as not only does it cost $17/day, but it was very unresponsive and I often found myself just resorting to using my phone during the times that I could not get it to respond. read more

I've never rented a car on my own before so this was a unique experience for me when I was on my business trip. My flight landed pretty late and I arrived a little closer to midnight. There was not that many cars left in the lot and all the cars that were left were pretty big. I finally found a midsize car that I would be comfortable driving and as I was leaving the gate agent told me that the registration expires in a few weeks and given that I was renting the car for six weeks I cannot take that car. I do not understand if the tags were expiring soon why were they not replaced prior to someone using that car. After searching and talking to someone for about 30 minutes a more compact car arrived on the lot and I was able to take that car. Weeks go on and I decide to end my trip one week early and I see on my rental agreement that if the rental is returned early or late there may be a fee. It made no sense to me that I would be charged a fee if I return a rental early. I called multiple times their direct line to ask them since Customer Service was not helpful and I was not receiving an answer. I decided to just drive there in person and ask an agent to help me with this. When I arrived the location was packed with people that were verbally dissatisfied with their circumstance. A few people mention very loudly that they have been waiting for over two hours to receive a vehicle. I was very happy I arrived late at night and was not stuck in this unfortunate circumstance. When I spoke to the agent about returning the vehicle early she was very unresponsive and very stressed out about the situation with the other customers and did not offer any help other than you'll find out when you return it. Long story short I was not charged an extra fee once I returned it early. read more
