I had zero issues here. I booked online about 3 weeks prior and got exactly what I asked for. The staff was helpful and friendly despite being super busy and understaffed, the latter not being their fault. I arrived an hour earlier then my reservation time so I expected a wait but still got my car right on the hour. The nice young man cleaning the cars explained the land lord won't let them use water to clean the cars by hose so it takes him a bit of time to get them ready. All of you complaining here, maybe you should take a minute and realize the car rental industry was upended by the plandemic and not the staffs fault in any way. Slowest service I've ever seen. It took me half an hour just to hand in keys to drop off. Both employees constantly disappeared into the back as customers waited alone up front. Pathetic customer service. read more

Their reservation makes no difference whether you get a car or not. email confirmation of your reservation doesn't hold any weight. what's the point of a reservation then???!!! 5 minutes to pick up our car, they told us we didn't have a car. I have been a Hertz customer and Gold member for a very long time. I have rented cars from Hertz all over the world and have witness all sorts of crazy things from customers and employees. I'll be honest, I read the most recent (past year) reviews on this hertz location and wasn't too surprised by all the negative reviews given my experience at this location about 3 years ago. I was hesitant but I continued with my reservation and hoped for the best. Let's be honest most people only write negative reviews and very few take the time to write a positive one.... I reserved a vehicle 2 weeks in advance and 24 hours before my pickup I received my expected Gold member "carfirmation" which told me everything I needed to know about my vehicle. I arrived to pickup my vehicle and was greeted warmly, ID checked and given my car packet in less than 5 minutes. It is that simple! There were 2 employees working the desk and these same employees were responsible for cleaning cars too! It is worth noting that this is the only Hertz in the area but in the past there was a location at the CHO Airport. This location had a complete stock of vehicles both on my pickup and my return so unless the previous reviewer was trying to rent a specific car or just a random car last minute on a UVA graduation weekend I don't see what the issue was. On my return things were simple too. I was second in line to a guy who was trying to pull a fast one on the employee by trying to pick up a car reserved by another individual who was not present, not on the drivers profile as an "authorized" driver/user, and trying to get by with a text of the car reservation. The employee politely explained he couldn't release the vehicle to him and even contacted his supervisor to see what could be done to accommodate this pickup. Honestly, this was above and beyond what the employee should have had to do...vehicles are only released to the individual who made the reservation or is authorized to pick up the reservation....stop trying to pull a fast one on employees then writing bad reviews when it doesn't go your way. Insurance rep set me up with them due to my car being totaled Spoke to a nice young man who asked me to please call back at 3pm they should have some cars in. Five actually. Called back and got a Brandon who was extremely rude. Spoke to me like as if I'm not a grown ass woman but a child who doesn't understand what he is saying. Said I didn't speak to anyone at his location, however that's the number I called both times. Told me he can't pull a car out of thin air for me. So I told Brandon not to worry about it I'll deal with enterprise because his customer service was shit. read more

If there was an opportunity to leave no stars, I definitely would. I rented a car from the National Hertz website and received a confirmation that a car was in fact available. I had a work meeting and needed transportation. On my way to this location while in Uber, I called to let them know I was on my way. The gentleman I spoke to, mentioned they had NO cars available. I let him know, I had a confirmation, provided my name and confirmation number and he said, sorry, we will not have any cars available for THREE hours. While on the phone with him, I expressed my dissatisfaction... instead of putting me on hold to see if he could somehow "locate" a car, he put his hand over the phone... and just went away. After about 40 seconds of saying nothing, he removed his hand from the phone and said that he could get me a car, not the style I initially selected for another $20.. not including taxes.. in addition to what I was already paying. Wait, so you initially told me you had no cars, but you can locate one and have it ready in 15 more minutes and charge me more! What happened to customer service... it's not MY fault that you didn't have the model I confirmed, and then charge me more! Never again, I'm warning you, DO NOT use this location. I literally just utilized Uber during my entire trip while in Charlottesville. And you should consider doing this as well! read more

Hertz upper corporate staff would be ashamed of this place. The service is horrible. The vehicle selection is poor. The service at the CHO airport was excellent however Hertz has permanently closed that location and the Rio Hill location is the only location left. read more

So I was involved in a car accident and rented a car through these guys from 11-08-21 and dropped off 11/24/21 and now I was charged toll fees 2weeks later and I never left Charlottesville the hole time and now they are trying to keep my money for no reason. I will never rent a car from these fucks again read more

Called a week before my scheduled pick up dated to secure a SUV. they said they can get me something by the time of my reservation so I can drop off my car to get it worked on. I didn't ask for a specific maker or modelI, just a mid or large size SUV. I showed up on my reservation day and they said all they have a compact car (with a take it or leave it attitude). I asked her what was the point of me calling you and confirm reservation when you just do what you wanna do? She started to give me the run around and give me BS excuse. They just ruined my day, and put me behind schedule to get my car fixed. All they had to do was call me before my reservation day and tell me they can't get the vehicle I want so I could've figure something. Poor customer service. I'm happy that Hertz is going out of business. That's what you get when you can't give people what they asked for. read more

This place is a absolute nightmare. Cheap is not always better. I was in a accident (not at fault) and needed a rental until my car was repaired. When the vehicle was returned all was well. A month and a half later and over $500 was taken from my account for damages! Come to find out the next renter damaged the vehicle and they thought it was me and changed me!!! After 6+ hours of physically being at Hertz and on the phone with my insurance company I was mailed a refund. DO NOT GO THERE. read more

Only giving one star because I can't post a review with NO stars!! Worst car rental experience EVER!! Didn't have the car I reserved weeks ahead of time. While waiting, observed a Gold Card member trying to get a different vehicle, as the battery in the original car was not holding charge and she could not turn vehicle off. Manager sent her on her way with the same car and NO resolution or commitment to help! Should have known then.. In any case, I still took a larger SUV, which was dirty and had to be run through car wash immediately. On a 500 mile drive, encountered brake rotor issues, and got no support on the other end when I tried to secure a replacement vehicle or repair. Spent hours on phone calls and texts with Hertz Roadside Assistance, only to be told I could drive another 1 1/2 hrs where there "might" be a replacement vehicle. Terrible customer service and such a lack of concern for customer safety and well-being! Never again!! read more

If I could leave less than one star, I would. My insurance company called an made a reservation for me, they were paying for the car, while mine was in the shop. When I got there, I had to wait on the Hertz person to get there, the car wasn't clean, or checked, I had to wait for that. This was a reservation that was PRE-MADE, and I was just picking the car up. When we go to do the paperwork the Hertz person asked me if I needed extra insurance. I said no, my insurance was covering it. They persisted, asking if I was sure. I told them that my insurance had made the reservation and they were paying it, if I needed more insurance, they would have done that when they made the reservation. The Hertz employee then stated that if I didn't add insurance through them, and something happened, and my insurance refused, my name was on the rental and I'd be held accountable for repairs, or loss. Mind you, I've just had an accident (not my fault, I was hit by someone else) and at the time, I was suffering from shingles, and on medication. I waffled over it, and they reminded me that if something happened it would be MY responsibility. So I reluctantly agreed. Two weeks later, and I'm paying $790.00 OUT OF POCKET for the insurance through Hertz that I DID NOT NEED, and that they pressured me to add. They refused to negate it, even though they've admitted that my insurance made the reservation without it. $790.00. The rental for the car is only $300-something. On top of that, when I found out that my insurance would not cover the added insurance and called Hertz, they 1) Told me that "All you have to do is call your claims and get them to add it to their reservation" indicating that they KNEW it wouldn't be covered, and 2) After an entire discussion about it, and meltdown on my part, and promises that they'd cancel the insurance, I hung up and realized I'd never heard the words "It's now cancelled" so I immediately called back, and sure enough, they HAD NOT cancelled the insurance, even though I'd asked them to and they'd said they would. They are nothing but scammers. $790.00 two weeks before Christmas, for insurance I TOLD them I didn't need, and they pressured me to get. read more
