He was the only employee working that day, and I was blown away by how hard he was hustling, running around to get cars for people, cleaning them, and making sure everyone was taken care of quickly. Despite being busy, he was friendly, professional, and clearly cared about making sure customers had a great experience. I rented a van because I needed to move some furniture, and they happened to have one available. The vehicle was spotless and well-maintained, and the price for the day was actually cheaper than what Home Depot charges. I've rented a lot of cars over the years, but this was honestly the best experience I've ever had with a rental company. Joined Hertz Gold Plus Rewards. 16 hours before the rental, they cancelled. The claim was the gov't shutdown was the cause. Got a long runaround that required that I officially cancel the reservation. Had to make multiple phone calls and a visit to the agency itself to make sure the reservation would not be fulfilled and that there was no cancellation fee. After being involved in an accident and being offered a rental car, I figured I'd go with hertz since it was closest to me. That was a mistake. This location is impossible to get ahold of, the phone just keeps ringing and no one ever picks up (15+ minutes of it just ringing). Even after calling the central Hertz Customer Service line and having them send a notification to this location letting them know I'm trying to call them, no one ever calls back. I tried just showing up but the only car they had available was a Chevy Malibu that had just been returned with the previous driver smoking in it. What's the point of having a reservation/confirmation if there aren't any cars available? My options were to either show up another day and hope a car was available or go all the way to Revere for a car. Booked online, reservation was confirmed. When I arrived at the location to pick up they had no cars available. Staff not helpful at all, they refused to pick up the phone and rectify the situation. Instead she directed us to call the reservations system ourselves, and that person could only reserve a car at a different location at triple the rate, Hertz refused to honor the same rate we booked with. Went to Enterprise across the street. Customer service was on a totally different level. Told them Hertz let us down, they said they help a lot of customers with our story. I rented a car from Hertz for a week. My pick up and drop off location was Logan airport in Boston MA. 2 days before my scheduled rental return I had emergency gall bladder surgery. I was discharged from the hospital one day before the scheduled return with instructions not to drive a car for 3-4 days. I called Hertz and explained my emergency and requested a drop off in Manchester NH ( 20 minute drive) rather than Logan airport ( 90 minute drive). They don't allow you to pay it because they want to charge you that service fee and they won't give you a copy of the picture from when you go through the pay by plate tolls. Worst experience I've ever encountered getting a car. Employees didn't want to help me and shrugged me off. They gave me a car that smelled horrible and wasn't cleaned. They tagged my rental agreement as full gas when it wasn't even halfway, and when I asked them to change it they got annoyed. The car they gave me had low tire pressure & they said they couldn't do anything about it but to go to the mechanic on the other side. Booked online and took a cab over to this spot about 2 hrs later to pick up my car. A young eastern european guy asked my name. Asked when I booked. Said no cars were available, said there was a national shortage of rental cars (that part is true) and a glitch in the system allowed me to book. Certainly a malfunction on kayak is not his fault, that's fine. I asked why no one had called and he said they were busy. Really? You couldn't place a 60 second call, but I could spend 40 mins getting over here? I was told to call the 1800 number. When I did, they didn't want to deal with the issue either. When they got sick of dealing with me they insisted that they couldn't hear me. I said calmly and clearly "you can hear me, and I can hear you. There is no connection issue, please address my question." After a few rounds of this they just hung up on me. Just returned our car after a 3 week fall color tour. Terrance was great--gave us really helpful advice about transponders for the toll roads and told us about an app, WAZE, that helped us navigate in unfamiliar territory. The location is a bit odd, just a couple of desks in a auto repair facility, but they got us a clean, new vehicle that was waiting for us. They are a small operation which may account for some of the problems reported by other reviewers. I rented a minivan to carry 4 adults and 2 children. Specifically a Chrysler Pacifica. The state of this vehicle was terrible when we picked it up. It had obviously not been cleaned. the Interior stank of marijuana smoke and cheap air freshener. I should have refused the vehicle; but since there was no other on the lot; it was either this one or nothing and I didn't have time to fight with staff. Moreover; there were food crumbs, change, and a previous customer's rental agreement in the back seat. Also, as ridiculous as it sounds, there was a handful of loose nuts and bolts in the back pockets of both the driver and passenger seats. Also, the light cover over the rear overhead light was simply missing. Any one of those things could have been potentially overlooked; but together there is no way as it is clear that cleaning procedures in the mist of a global pandemic are not being adhered to. I will never use Hertz again or recommend anyone to use a Hertz rental. I recently got into an accident and brought my car to the mechanic to be fixed. In the same office of the mechanic's, was a Hertz rental office. Suggested by the mechanic since they were on the same property, I went through them for a rental while my vehicle was being fixed. With my insurance policy, I am allotted up to $45 a day. That allows me to have a luxury sedan and or small SUV. I was put into a Ford Fiesta. I drive a Toyota Avalon so if you know anything about cars, I'm sure you know the pain I was feeling. I understood that that Hertz location didn't have any other cars currently available for me to use, but I was told that I could call around to other Hertz locations and switch out. To make a long story just a bit shorter, every Hertz location I called gave me the run around about trading in the vehicle I was giving, telling me I wasn't allowed to do what I had been told by a manger at one location. I quickly returned the car and then rented through Enterprise (WHO ARE AWESOME) Hertz has terrible customer service and they lack in proper communication and thus I don't suggest anyone to use them. read more

Rented minivan with Hertz online a couple months ago due to the price being so high at Logan Airport. It was $2k at Logan and $500 at neighborhood location. When I showed up, I was told they don't carry cars that hold 6 people. Then they tell me they have to get one from Hertz in Boston. I had to wait more than 2hrs for a you g guy to make his way up to Logan to retrieve a minivan. I saw the minivan renter the Hertz lot and park. But then, the guy did t get out of the minivan. I walked around the corner and saw him sitting in the driver's seat listening to loud music. I was like, "come on, let's go! Ive been waiting over 2 hrs. He then gets out and stares me down as we both walked in to the office. We get in the office and that's when he asked me, "do you want to step outside?" Real professional huh? I'm was so pissed. I waited for two hours to get the minivan that I reserved over two months ago. Not one employee apologized. The manager, who was MIA during the two hour wait, when he finally showed his face, he was useless. Overall, the WORST RENTAL CAR EXPERIENCE EVER! I then called Presidents Circle customer service and explained this whole thing to the rep. The rep, named Lori, listened to me and then said she's have to call the location and do some research and then she's get back to me. Over a week later, after completing the reservation, she sent me an email in which she refuted everything I claimed happened and took the side of the manager and the Hertz location in Dorchester. Shady Operation. I told Mitch I did not want extra insurance charges before hand and he still charged me double for the rental.When I inquired about the over billing he put me and my wife on hold and wouldn't speak to us.After waiting for the manager Matt to call me back 2 days later Matt finally said I would receive a check in the mail from Hertz in 1 to 2 weeks for the mistake Mitch made.Well guess what,its been over 2 weeks and no calls no check! We rented a car from this location on an insurance claim on Dec 27, and now very sorry we did so. We tried returning the car early (Dec 31) but they were closed (without notice on their phone answering system), so we returned it to their Dedham location. The first surprise was the auto. We were told by Hertz national that it would be a small sedan. It was a fully-automated almost SUV size Ford Escape, very awkward to drive in narrow Boston streets (license said it was from Florida, what a surprise...} and no owners manual to find all the relevant buttons. The second surprise was a $20 fuel charge on our credit card, which the Dorchester location agent now says he told us about - that there would be an automatic charge. We have no recollection of such a claim, and would have objected. We returned it with much more gas than when we took it out, and traveled a total of 42 miles. He told us there was nothing that could be done because the contract was more than a month old (today is 1/12, we rented the car on 12/27 and the charge appeared on our bank's website on 1/3. I don't know how he calculates days.) Buyer beware if you deal with any Hertz location, but especially this one. read more

My husband reserved a vehicle online several days ago. He used his lunch break to pick up the car but when he got there no car was available. The attendant called his manager and arranged for a car to be delivered in approximately one hour. My husband had to return to work so I made arrangements to have someone drive me to hertz to pick up the car. So far I'm waiting. I second the comment about this location being extremely fraudulent. I rented a car in June through my insurance, meaning I wouldn't need to purchase the Hertz insurance, but they still charged me for it. A month later, A MONTH LATER, I see these charges on my credit card and asked them about it and they said "it's just pending, it won't go through." Another month later and those charges actually went through. I called them to get those charges removed and an employee said that he had done it and wait up to 9 business days. Lo and behold, they were not removed after 9 days but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited a month to call back. I guess that one's on me because when I did, some other employee said it had been over 3 months since I had returned the car so the contract was closed and there's nothing he can do about it. Oh yeah, the guy who was supposed to have handled this is no longer work there...This guy then told me to call the corporate billing department to get this sorted and if they couldn't, to tell billing to make the district manager handle this. I did as told and the billing department basically told me this man gave me a bunch of nonsense and that's not how it works at all. This place is a scam!!!! Do not use them for rentals! I was referred by my car insurance after being in a rear end collision. I was just informed they have a a huge racket going on here after I reported them. I Was told I would be charged the 150.00 for a security deposit that would be put back into my account once I returned the car. Fast forward a week (today), I go to return the car and I'm told I would be charged extra for coverage on the car and my deposit would not be returned. The minute I walked into their office the rep who gave me the rental car last week flew out of the office and I was left to deal with the manager Matthew. Also, I would like to note that the Nissan Altima I received had a trunk full of FedEx boxes and a white trash bag filled with God knows what, looked like dirty clothes. Stay away. I had a horrible experience there. My car was being repaired nearby, and my insurance covered a loaner car. I thought the cost was all covered. The guy at Hertz convinced me to add extra insurance coverage, and they explained that my insurance company would cover this added cost. When I returned the rental car, they told me I had a $300 charge for the added insurance. Turns out my insurance company would not cover the added cost, because my existing policy already covered me for extra damage on a rental. The guy at Hertz explained this all very poorly to me at the beginning, and then at the end would not waive the charge. I feel totally mislead, and now I am stuck with a bill for $300 that got me nothing. read more

We rented from Hertz while our usual car was having work done. When we returned it, they did the walk around with us, said everything was fine, accepted the car and checked us out. Four hours later, Terrance calls saying they found a dent in the back bumper and tgat we are now liable for $500 in repairs, despite the fact that this damage clearly happened while the car was in their posession, as their own staff said dent wasn't there during the return. They refuse to accept responsibility for this, and are filing claims against our insurance, causing a huge amout of hassle. These people are criminal scam artists. Stay far far away. read more
