Reserved a luxury car for a one-way drive on Citibank's travel site for a 4 day trip through New England/New York in early September. It ended up being a good experience. New Haven, Connecticut markets itself as the pizza capital of the US so planned a quick trip out there. Originally, was going to make it a round-trip through Boston, but later realized that Hartford had a large airport that we could visit for the first time. So booked a one-way rental from Boston to Hartford airports, and found that Enterprise offered their luxury car rental for 4 days at prices lower than what other agencies offered for their intermediate (one-way rentals are expensive). So booked it through the Citibank travel site about a month before our trip: - $370.74 prepaid, using Citi Strata Premier CC (Pro: 10% back in points, Con: secondary collision insurance coverage...Chase Sapphire gives primary) - $47.72 due at time of return, for drop fee (since not delivered at point of rental) The agency is located in the modern consolidated rental car center (opened in 2013), accessible via shuttle bus from Logan. There was a queue when we arrived, with a line attendant suggesting that we could use a nearby kiosk to check-in, if we already had an rez. Sure enough, it was found easily and the credit card that we had used on the Citi site, was available to Enterprise for the return charge (so no need to show my physical card...great system integration!). The kiosk printed out the receipt which we were to take to the garage for retrieval (reading the receipt, it showed our car as being a Chrysler 300...the attendant assured me that was incorrect). We took the elevator up to the next floor and walked into the attached garage. There the attendant took our receipt and showed us to our car...it had been reserved just for us, and was indeed a white Audi A4. We had difficulty connecting it to our iPhones to use Carplay (this was an ongoing issue throughout trip), but finally got it to work after a couple of resets. Going through the security checkpoint was just showing my wife's driver license, and we were on our way. Addendum - The travel agency on my rental was marked as Priceline. This got me to do a little research: Sept, 2025 Global Distribution Systems (GDS), created mainly by airlines: connects travel suppliers (e.g. Enterprise Rental) with buyers (e.g. Citi travel site): 1. Amadeus IT Group - based in Spain, formed in 1987 by AF, SAS, Lufthansa 2. Sabre - formed in 1960 by AA 3. Travelport (formerly Galileo [1987 by KLM, BA], merged with Apollo in 1992 [1971 by UA], purchased Worldspan [1990s by Delta]. Consumers interact with travel agencies. Online travel agency (OTA) have really bitten into the traditional person-to-person travel agent. Two big (consolidated) players in this space: 1. Booking: booking.com, priceline, kayak, agoda, rockettravel. In 2018, changed name from 'priceline' to 'booking'. 2. Expedia: expedia.com, hotels.com, vrbo, trivago, orbitz. 3. Others are jumping in! 1. companies that support their own website interfacing directly with GDS. Examples are American Express, Chase, Costco. 2. Outsourced travel sites: a. Capitol One uses Hopper. b. carandstays.delta and hotels.united travel sites uses Expedia. c. aadvantagehotels uses rockettravel. d. Citi travel and USBank Travel uses Booking as their interface. This is why my reservation with citi travel came up as priceline.com for Enterprise. 4. Sites that provide search capabilities include Google and Microsoft, and then refer to the booking site. All of these 'middlemen' get a slice of the pie, and is able to offer the end consumer incentives to use their site. Thus, it's worth the additional effort to find the best deal...not only for price, but for rebates as well. What stuck out is that airlines have moved from the suggestion model (e.g. providing links to hotel sites on flight confirmation emails, getting referral credit) to a commission model (e.g. providing booking capabilities on their own sites, being a travel agent). With travel agency commissions running from 15 to 40% for hotels, it's no wonder that airlines want a piece of that revenue, partnering with OTAs if they don't have inhouse expertise. With airfare having up to 5% commission, thinking that big hotel chains like Marriott will join the game at some point. That's our human nature: making things more complicated to create more opportunity for 'smart' business people to make more money...without really bettering the overall effort.

Ok usually renting a car is a headache, but truthfully renting from enterprise was a breeze this past weekend! I booked direct online thru enterprise with pickup in Logan airport (boston) and drop off at Hartford airport. I was able to check in online ahead of time, so when I landed in Boston I skipped the car rental line and walked right into my rental car! As you exit you show your cc and license and that's it! Maybe 5 mins total. Drop off was just as easy. Car was an upgrade from what I reserved, no complaints there. Drove well, no issues, a mere 2k miles on it. I'm so thankful my car rental experience was quick and painless!

When we arrived at the counter, our wait was small, the agent we interacted with was pleasant and helpful. After we finalized our rental, we went upstairs where another agent met us and walked us to the car and inspected it with us. They had the vehicle we reserved, a convertible, because often you are given something other than what you reserved. He took the time and showed us how to operate it, too. The return process was just as simple. There is a shuttle that runs between the airport and rental depot, that runs often. We had virtually no wait on either trip. If the price is right, I would recommend using them.

Michael and Chris Pierre at Boston/Logan airport customer service was outstanding. They took the time in their busy schedule to help me find the perfect size car for my work needs. They were friendly and very helpful

    Glass case

I left my prescription glasses in my rental on Wednesday the 17th, when I returned it to Boston Logan. I loaded a claim online, but I can also see on the listing that glasses were found that day. It's impossible to speak with someone directly at Logan to confirm. I need those glasses and glass case (photo) before I depart Boston as they are prescription, but no way to reach the office. Frustrating!

Cost $490.23 for the car and $140 for insuring said car...after the fact....meaning I used the same card for the insurance, but not the same day. We got to the front desk, told them I'd paid already, and they told me they needed to hold $200 plus I added $71 fuel cost which is $271. I proceeded to give my wife's credit card for the hold and the fuel. When the receipt was presented to me, there was a charge of $985, needless to say after seeing the receipt, I had to change my drawers. Now, long story, short, we worried through our whole trip about that charge, because it was a new credit card and we had no idea that that was going to be the charge on the card. And I was imagining all sorts of difficulty in trying to get that money reversed. Returning the car was a piece of cake. All that was needed was to leave the keys on the dash and walk away, which is pretty cool in my book. But still, I wondered or I should say, my wife and I wondered what the disposition would be of the final bill, and we had to wait a bit to see what would happen. (Suggestion: this is a pay at the Desk rental car company, that is why there was the large charge on the second credit card, however, I'm glad I reserved it early, they seem to have had a plethora of cars there.) Will we didn't receive a final bill but a few days later my wife and I were elated when that $985 had been returned on her new credit card, so we did indeed only pay the $630 or $40 needed which I'd already paid. So, other than worrying about that major expense on one card we were relieved to see the money returned, back on the Second credit card!!! So I'd like to say kudos to Expedia and to Dollar Rent-A-Car for a somewhat nervous but happy Experience, even though it was slightly stressful. If we had had foreknowledge of that big expense being returned, we likely would've not stressed so much, that said I would recommend dollar, they treated us fairly, and pretty good!!!

**November 2025: Weekend After & Morning Visit**…read more I should have read these reviews before reserving the rental. Long story short, this was the worst car rental experience I have ever had. The rental was paid in full and the customer service rep insisted that that was an estimate. The car we were given was not what we signed up for and later we saw that we were charged extra for it. They also charged some additional things that we did not agree to. There were many phone calls made and I think to save yourself all the headaches it would be in your best interest to do business elsewhere. It's not worth it.

We flew into Boston on a Saturday morning and proceeded to wait in the Budget/Avis line (They know it's always busy, why do they insist on merging the two lines?) and it was pure chaos from the second we got in line. It took us roughly two hours to get to the counter which is always fun, but then when we got to the counter it was still somehow an awful experience. I've rented hundreds of cars in the last decade or so and the only company that truly drives me crazy is Budget/Avis. Answering basic questions and trying to pay still somehow managed to take upwards of 25 minutes and that was with us offering everything quickly. Overall? I sure hope I remember to choose any other car rental company the next time I fly into Boston. All the other lines were moving so much faster, nobody was loudly complaining about being stuck for two hours, and maybe some of the other companies can help people start a trip off on the right foot. Now as for the car itself, I'm satisfied with what we were given and it runs great, if only the rest of the experience was even half as good as that.

The third customer service rep with whom I spoke offered a $100 discount ... toward a future car rental. As if I'd reserve a car with Budget again. Heard of a win-win-win? This experience was a lose-lose-lose: loser car (pickup truck), loser customer service and loser company. Seek your ride elsewhere.
