Pleasantly surprised by the decent offerings at this location. All the vehicles were relatively new. I did have to dock a star since I came in for a hybrid car since I was going on a road trip and wanted to save money on gas, but they didn't have any hybrids on site when I came in even though I reserved my vehicle months prior. The lady at the front was really nice though and gave us a free vehicle upgrade (went from expected medium hybrid sedan to medium sized 5 passenger SUV), so that was nice, ended up picking a 2026 VW Tiguan, which was clean and still had the new car smell I love. This location did get busy both times I was here (when I went to pick up and drop off), which surprised me so just expect to spend a little bit of time here yourself. Overall, I would rent from this Hertz again! read more

Rented a car. Pick up was Wednesday at 5pm. They called me at 4:30 just to double check that I was coming in before their closing time, 5pm. I told them I would be there before 5. I even called back and updated them with my ETA so they wouldn't leave for the day. I arrived at 4:46 pm and they were locking up to go "pick up my car." Thought it was weird that they called me as if my car was already ready, then I arrive and it's not even in the lot. Anyway, I wait for them to come back and when the worked arrives, she is in a jeep. I reserved a Toyota so I was already shocked about this. We go inside to start the process and I mention that I reserved a Toyota and the worker in a condescending tone says, "we are short on cars, this is all we have." So I asked her to cancel the reservation without a fee because it was not my fault they did not have what I requested. The worker quickly cancelled the reservation and the interaction was over. I do not recommend renting from here. read more

Rented a Polestar 2 here while my car was getting repaired. First one they gave me had a broken AC. Fine, things happen -- I called to swap it out. The replacement was flat out disgusting. Bottles came rolling out from under the seat from whoever had it last. Dust caked on every surface. And to top it off, a busted sensor that wouldn't stop throwing a warning on the screen the entire time. When I called to get yet another car, they told me they had vehicles that just got moved from the storage lot and were being sent to the car wash. Cool. Showed up and none of that was true. They had to go "clean" one for me on the spot because the one they supposedly washed never made it back. I sat there for almost an hour waiting. At that point I just took it and left. Two dirty cars, a broken AC, a broken sensor, and a lot of talk with zero follow-through. Nobody inspects these cars before handing them out. This location needs to get it together. read more

I honestly don't know where to begin--my experience here was overwhelmingly negative. If you're considering booking a rental car from this location, there are a few critical issues you should be aware of: 1. Customer Service: The service was extremely disappointing. I didn't like the car I was given and wanted an upgrade. I wasn't told it would be the price of the car plus 20 dollars extra daily. So instead of paying 25 dollars a day for my original order, I was paying 45 for the new car plus 20 upgrade fee. I don't mind the 45 dollars. The associate never explained that to me and when it came down to it, they say it's in the contract and basically you're screwed. I paid 200 dollars for a daily upgrade fee. He was busy and by himself but failed to mention/warn me about the daily upgrade fee. I thought you just pay the price difference of the car not 20 bucks a day on top of it. So read your contract thoroughly because they won't go over it with you so you don't get this hidden fee. Bad business practices just to get more money out of you. A HERT DRIVER HIT MY CAR & THEY'RE GIVING MY INSURANCE PUSHBACK. Last year on May 12, 2023 I was leaving this parking lot when a Hertz driver driving a mini van came speeding into the parking lot, I reversed and honked my horn but it was too late and he hit my car. As you can see in the attached photos the driver had MORE THAN ENOUGH room to not hit me, and this dude did not understand what he just did or what was going on. I literally can't make this up he got out of the car and said, "Was I really going that fast?" And they let him get back in the car and drive away!? Yesterday, I got an email from my insurance saying that this pathetic rental company is giving pushback about their driver hitting my car. All the terrible reviews on here are accurate, including how incompetent the idiot manager is who doesn't have clue what he is doing or how to hire. Went into Hertz rental car on Monday. in El Monte on Garvey Ave. I felt really bad for Ashley. She was answering phones about sales and trying to help those who needed rentals. I was very taken back by their manager (Chris). He did nothing, even though he noticed there were many customers waiting in the lobby to return cars. There were also some that were needing a rental to start their day. I could see the stress on this young lady's face . There was also a very nice technician (Hansen) trying to help her at the front desk, and also check in cars . Chris is a lazy manager, and cares nothing about the business or helping his staff. After forcing a $500 deposit HOLD plus the entire car rental amount plus they run a credit check to ding your credit they gave me a 2019 civic that was completely beat up, had been driven from Tennessee and they didn't even bother to wash it. It was completely disgusting inside and the guy (Chris) insisted it was just washed 2 days ago. There was dead bugs on the bumper and the inside has layers of dirt and dust. It was so gross. When I asked for a different car he said they would charge me for an upgrade. WTFFFF What kind of car rental place still gives 4 year old cars and doesn't bother to wash them. So disgusting. Would have given 3 , but reading other reviews and based off of my experience , it is a 1 star. My drop off location was in Rosemead. No representatives in site just a note on the door to drop off keys. No one to do walk through inspection. Rosemead and El monte are charging me $377 for damages I did not cause. I have 2 witnesses that saw the car in its practically perfect condition it was at pick up and drop off. Even Ashely commented on how clean and nice the return was when she had to look for my handicap placard i know i left in the car. I rented the car via expedia. I wasn't even given a chance for a proper inspection or heads up that there was a crack in the windshield and they were going to charge me. I would have filed a claim through the insurance i purchased through expedia IF I HAD DAMAGED THE CAR but i didn't need to. You cannot get ahold of the Rosemead rep, who remains nameless, and the Manager Chris in El Monte never called me back to discuss with me the charge. I had to call back and i was simply dismissed by saying well now you have to deal with the claims department.The car was dropped off on Monday 1/12 in rosemead and was taken by the rep to el monte the 13th. I had reserved a convertible online and the day I showed up they let me know they didn't have a convertibles available.(Not a single person contacted me prior to the day of my reservation to let me know they didn't have convertibles). They offered me a sedan, which was fine. At this point I just needed a rental. However, they were going to charge me the same price for a Nissan sedan as a Mustang convertible. The convertible was nearly double what a Nissan costs and they were going to charge me the same price!!! This review is basically a zero star review, and I caution anyone who needs to rent a car through Hertz at this location. It is AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL. I called in to try to extend a rental car that was a part of an insurance claim, and the woman who picked up the phone was extremely rude. She didn't mention her name off the bag, but when she pulled up my reservation, it all went downhill. I inquired about the price to extend to a certain date and asked if she could provide me with all the numbers. She started spewing out all the numbers so quickly that I couldn't easily jot them down or calculate them. Of course it's easy to read off numbers on a screen, but give your customers some time to digest the info. When I casually noted "ok, let me try to calculate this really quickly," she proceed to say "ok, well, I'm putting you on hold" and does it without asking if she could and without any delay. I eventually had to hang up to call back. When I asked to speak with the manager, he was conveniently out to lunch at around 2:00pm. Then she proceeds to talk over me trying to tell me that she DID INDEED ask if she could place me on hold (not true), and insisted that I just didn't hear her. Based on others' reviews, it sounds like it is the same woman that's being rude to customers. I am writing a formal complaint to the branch manager as well as to corporate. One look at these reviews and they will soon realize that something needs to change. read more

Hertz Policy allows Active Duty Military to rent with an expired license because it's often difficult to renew your license at your home of record. I rented a car in Texas last year, San Francisco a week ago, and tried to rent one in my hometown area. The manager and front desk representative said this was not policy of Hertz or their location. They will not rent without a valid license. I tried to explain that it's not a location policy. It's a Hertz policy. Usually, Hertz is the most military friendly. I did not rent a vehicle. My insurance connected me with this rental shop because my car was being repaired and I needed transportation for work. I reserved the car for a full week and said that I was going to check in at 8am to pick it up. I arrived to the shop on my pick up date and it was already busy and there was only one person working the desk. It was a lot of waiting and I didn't get checked in until around 9am. The guy then still had to vacuum the car and wipe down the windshields. I finally got to take the car and I went straight home. It was probably around 9:30am by this point. I finally left to run an errand and noticed both the change oil light and the low tire pressure light were on. I immediately called and let them know and a girl said that I didn't need to worry about the oil change light because they have a schedule where they take it. She said that I could put in air myself or bring it back to the shop for them to check. I didn't feel comfortable putting in air myself so I drove back to the shop for them to take a look. The same man who helped me in the morning brought out a portable air machine and began filling the tire that the sensor was pointing out. I turned the car on and the light was still on and he said that I just had to drive it a little for the sensor to go away. I went ahead and listened to that advice and while the sensor did turn off for a little bit (maybe 20 mins) it turned back on as soon as I restarted the car. I called several times but they just kept putting me on hold and never actually picked up the call. I was very stressed at this point that I decided I was going to return the car and cancel the rest of my reservation. When I went to return the car it took them 30 mins to actually attend me. It was so frustrating that when they offered to switch the car for me I declined because it was clear that this shop did not offer quality service. They still charged me a full day. To top it off they were also trying to charge me the gas I used (which it barely went down to 7/8 of a tank). I let them know that I spent more time driving back and forth to their shop than I did anywhere else. The guy who was helping me asked the "manager" if there was something they could do and the manger was quick to try and say that I still needed to pay for the gas even if I was canceling the reservation. I then reminded him that the only reason I was returning the vehicle early was because they gave a defective vehicle that hadn't been properly serviced before renting it out. He then said that he would do it this one time since they were busy and "needed to keep the line moving." I truly never write negative reviews unless I've experienced unacceptable service and this is one of those cases. I don't recommend booking at this Hertz at all. Do yourself a favor and avoid the stress and frustration by booking elsewhere!! read more

Look elsewhere because this location does not maintain their vehicles at all. They gave us a car that was overdue for a oil change and left us stranded in the middle of nowhere. On top of that the interior had a few spiderwebs, the charge points did not work and the camera in the center of the windshield was falling off. Not only that the vehicle had no washer fluid left and when turning on the wipers in the rain only made it worse. I would understand if they just barely got this vehicle from a different location but they claimed they've had it for a while which makes no sense how they can't check and make sure things work properly and keep it on top of the maintenance needed. I was rear-ended in an accident a couple of weeks ago and got a Tesla rental as my car was being fixed in the shop. Luckily, my insurance covers $40/day for a rental and my insurance company has a contract with Hertz for $40.50/day for the Tesla. I had to shell out 50 cents per day and taxes. This is probably the best car rental place I've ever been to. Ashley, Graham and every one else were very accommodating and were able to deal with issues with my insurance company. They are friendly and efficient. I would definitely come back! I highly recommend them. read more

Airport locations take at least 15-20 minutes even when I prebook and pay. Checking out took less then 5 minutes as well. I was in and out quickly. Great first experience here. I have already purchased additional insurance for the car, so even if there is any damage to the car, I don't need to pay extra. But they charged me more under different pretexts! The staff member I spoke with earlier told me that I could drop off the car anytime on Friday and leave, but now they're telling me that I'm late and have to pay for an extra day! It's simply outrageous! Anyway, I will never come back to Hertz! Never again! It's all just a way to squeeze more money out of you! read more

Hertz is one of the State Farm in-network rental car company and my insurance sent me to this Hertz location because my auto shop is located just few miles away. Came here pretty early (8:45 AM), walked in, and was told to wait until they finish the car wash. Even though my insurance covered the daily rental fees, I still provided my credit card information because Hertz required customers to put mandatory security deposits ($50). One of the staff went through the car inspection to check for any existing damages and I requested a copy of the report right before I left. I was able to drive out of the branch in approximately 20 minutes. For some odd reasons, the fuel gauge started at 50% and ultimately I had to return my car with a half full tank of gas. I got a 2016 Mazda 3 and it was a pretty good car. No weird smells and drove like a real champ. Unfortunately, I exceeded my insurance rental limit and I had to pay one additional week of rental fees at the rate of about $20 per day (not including tax). Hertz is pretty flexible with returning time and I was told to return my car anytime in the morning (9 AM to 12 PM). The returning process took a really long time (waited 30+ minutes) because there was a long line of customers waiting to get their cars. Since there isn't a separate line for car return, it was really a first-come, first-served basis. Overall it took me a total 45+ minutes (from the moment I stepped in to the moment I stepped out) to complete the returning process. Good car, but the overall logistics isn't as concise and simple as Avis. I think the biggest complain you are going to get is the potentially long waiting time. P.S. - I overheard an interesting conversation about how Hertz in West Covina suck and that place has low inventory. read more

I've been here twice the past year and both experiences were okay. I had no problems both times and was in and out quickly. What I didn't like was on my recent visit. I prefer to pay the full tank with Hertz because it's a lot cheaper ($3.69). I had no issues the first time but on my second, I was charged a lot higher than I should have.. I rented a Nissan Sentra. Keep in mind this is a small sedan. It holds 10.8 gallons of regular gas. They wanted to charge me $51.. which is way overpriced because I got a full tank of gas the week before at Costco for around $4 or so and paid only $39! Luckily I complained and told them my situation and they were able to adjust the price to a flat $39.. Honestly makes me wonder how many times they've gotten away with other customers. They need to implement a system where the correct amount is charged according to the car a customer rents.. read more

If you need to rent a vehicle avoid HERTZ at all costs!! Beware, the staff here work on their own terms and don't know how to communicate with costumers... I made a reservation 24hrs in advance & came from a long way only to arrive and the woman in the front counter tells me I need a credit card next time if I reserve in advance but this time she'll do it because I didn't know. She proceeded with running my credit without authorization or knowledge and I needed to now make a $500 deposit for the reservation based on my credit history which I was ok with , but then she tells me I needed another debit card because apparently they don't accept Debit cards with Bank of America and if I don't have a different debit or credit card I couldn't rent a car with them after all. I had no choice then to leave. All this for a basic ol' Medium size sedan (Mazda) i totally understand if i reserved a premium vehicle but it was for a Mazda!! Really HERTZ????!!! Lol And the female that's working the front desk needs a little more education & knowledge to communicate what she's trying to tell her costumers.. she's lacking a lot of knowledge in costumer service. I won't be returning to this location, I will rather go to their competition down the street they are a lot more helpful every step of the way and don't have rude chicken heads in the front. First time renting from Hertz. I choose Hertz because they had the cheapest price for what I was looking for. I got a Jeep Compass which was horrible for the trip to Vegas. Struggled badly on the hills. I truly think something was wrong with the car. I're rented 4 cylinders to Vegas before and they were fine on those hills. When I got home, I noticed that the car was giving me an message on the dash that oil needed to be changed. I called the Hertz office right away and they told me that the car didn't require maintenance and possibly the tech forgot to reset the oil change indicator. There's no parking for the people dropping your off/picking you up. Looking at my original prepaid amount and the total amount I paid - they overcharged me. I had super low expectations based on other reviews but when I went in I was greeted and the process was pretty seamless for both rentals. Granted..depending on which worker you get it can be SLOW. But otherwise they will explain if you ask questions and there are cars available. They have a lot of Hyundai Sonata 2017s because the owner apparently likes those. There is also some hesitation if you get picky with your car..but I feel as customers we can pick which car we prefer! Anyway, it's a do-able place. read more

So after returning my rental I emailed the district manager.... Also called and left messages with no response. On October 1, 2021 my husband and went to pick up a rental that we reserved online due to a car accident. Everything was good and it was a smooth transaction. The only issue/concern I had was the crack on the windshield on the driver side . We sis mention to the lady that was helping us out and all she said was "it's ok , I took a picture " and went inside and sent us in our way . We didn't make an issue of it because we were in a hurry and there were no other cars on the lot so we would most likely have to pay to upgrade. On Oct 14th at around noon I called the El Monte location, spoke to Christine or Crystal I don't remember the exact name but I called to inform/request a replacement car because the car we did have had some mechanical issues . Warning lights came on. We didn't want to risk getting in an accident or get stranded. I was very rudely told that there were no cars for me to switch but I can call other Hertz locations and they should be able to help me switch without any problems. I didn't think that was professional and I thought she would be able to help me get into a safe working car. I was in need of a car and I started calling myself . I called a few local locations and non had a car for me to go switch out with . There was one location that had a SUV but the rate was almost 3 times what I was already paying . I went ahead and after about 4 calls to different locations I went ahead and went into the El Monte location in person and requested to speak to the manager. I was told that she was not available. I explained to the lady at the front desk what I needed , she went to the back room to speak to the manager and came back to the me they were expecting a lot of reservations since the weekend was upon us . She told me they had no cars to trade me but yet the lot was full . The lady was going back and fourth between myself and the manager. I was told several times I couldn't be helped I was told I could leave the car and have them take it to pep boys and if they could fix it they would call me back or I could go back Monday and switch cars . ) it was on a Thursday) I would be without a car for 4 days ? Made no sense . I demanded to speak to the manager then all of a sudden here comes Christine/Crystal the manager. And all of a sudden they offered me a car . Horrible customer service. Worse experience ever. I have never rented with Hertz I've always used enterprise but I went to the location since it was near by and quick to reserve the car.
