Hertz should focus on enhancing safety and communication to ensure all their vehicles are safe for customers. The vehicle I rented did not meet these standards. After I sent my photos, documentation, and email, they promised to respond within three days, but it's been over a week and I have not heard from them. I'll attach the email I sent. Dear Hertz Customer Relations, I am writing regarding a rental of a Jeep Compass from your Eugene Airport location, which I had continuously from March 8, 2026 through March 20, 2026, across multiple rental agreements and extensions, including Rental Agreement Number (RA #) 3293057. Vehicle: Jeep Compass 2.0 AWD Rental Location: Eugene Municipal Airport During this rental period, I experienced concerning issues with the vehicle's performance. On March 15, 2026, when I returned and entered into an extension of the rental, I specifically informed Hertz staff that the vehicle did not feel right when accelerating and handling, including a noticeable jerking sensation in the steering. I requested a different vehicle due to these concerns. I was advised that this behavior was normal and was told that similar vehicles perform the same way. It is possible they believed this was related to a driver-assist feature such as lane assist; however, I was still instructed to continue driving the same vehicle despite my concerns. On March 20, 2026, while driving to work, the vehicle suffered a tire failure, leaving me stranded and requiring roadside assistance and towing. The vehicle did not have a spare tire, only an inflator kit, and the sealant was ineffective due to the severity of the tire damage and exposed cords. Upon inspection, Les Schwab determined that the tires were unsafe, with significant inner wear and exposed cords due to alignment issues. I have documentation and photos confirming this condition. This indicates that the vehicle had a pre-existing safety issue and should not have been rented in this condition. Additionally, I had already reported abnormal performance prior to the failure and was instructed to continue driving the vehicle. As a direct result of this incident, I also lost a full day of work. I am a Federal Employee with a scheduled shift from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a requirement to complete an eight-hour workday. Due to the breakdown, towing process, and subsequent vehicle replacement, I was unable to complete my scheduled hours and therefore lost income. Following this incident, Hertz replaced the vehicle with a Ram 2500 pickup truck. This replacement has significantly higher fuel consumption and created additional burdens, including the inability to park in my designated work parking garage, resulting in out-of-pocket parking expenses. At the time of the replacement, I expressed concern about the fuel cost and practicality of the truck. I was informed that it was the only vehicle available and was advised to return on Sunday to exchange it once more suitable vehicles became available. As a result of these circumstances, I am requesting the following: A full refund of the rental charges for the Jeep Compass from March 8, 2026 through March 20, 2026 A full refund of the rental charges for the Ram 2500 replacement vehicle provided following the breakdown Reimbursement for additional fuel costs incurred due to the replacement vehicle Reimbursement for parking expenses incurred as a result of the oversized replacement vehicle Additional compensation or rental credit reflecting the safety risk, inconvenience, lost income, and overall disruption caused I trusted Hertz to provide a safe and properly maintained vehicle. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS PLACE! I had a prepaid reservation and they called me to tell me they had canceled my reservation when I was on my way to pick up the car. They said they gave it to someone in the wait list because I was late to pick it up. It was prepaid. They didn't call me to ask if I was still coming. Completely ridiculous! ZERO STARS. I booked a car online with Hertz, received my confirmation, and even paid for an Uber ($25) from the airport to their location. When I got there, they told me they had no cars available. The employee claimed they "called me" -- they did not. Not only did they fail to provide the car I reserved, but they also offered zero help or support in resolving the situation. No alternatives, no effort to fix their mistake, nothing. Meanwhile, my rental is still showing as active in their system, even though they openly admitted they had no cars. Sickening experience with Shawn at Hertz on 11th in Eugene. Not the least bit phased that i booked a car that wasn't ever going to be there. I was 4th in line on the waiting list because I booked a week ago. Made it sound like I booked for no reason. Like I was simply maybe going to get a car, but my spot on the waiting list was secure. He explained that if I wanted to upgrade for an extra $125 a day he could fulfill my reservation. Told me I did not know what I was talking about when I mentioned that it seems money is more important than fulfilling an agreement. He Hung up on me. This is at 4pm the evening before I need the vehicle I reserved. Avoid this clown show they don't even care enough to work it out with the customer. They just slammed the phone down on the patron. This is one of the most ridiculous situations I have ever been in. I had a rental set for over a month, pulled in to pick it up and they said they had no cars. A truck was supposed to be delivering some soon but they hadn't planned for graduation weekend so they were empty. I was in town for work and needed a car. They kinda shrugged me off. I ended up having to rent another car that cost me $433.15 more for the same rental time which basically after flights, hotels, gas and car rental made me lose money on my work trip. I followed up by reaching out to Hertz several times and filing a claim to be reimbursed the difference. My wife used to work for a competitor car rental company and said they would handle this sort of thing all the time no problem. Well, it's almost four months later and they are still giving me the runaround saying that the location couldn't service a lot of people so they refuse to give credits. Instead they offer $50 off their next rental. So because of their own incompetence I lost money on a work week and they refuse to be held accountable for their inability to fulfill their contract. I just got my bill from Hertz. I rented a car at the Eugene office and returned it at the Seattle Airport on 10/18/2024. The receipt says that I returned the car on 10/24/2024, charging me more than double the amount I was estimated. In order to rectify the over charge, it will probably take me a couple hours on the phone or I have to submit a request for customer service and they will get back to me in 3-5 days. I'm probably going to leave the charge and save my time and my sanity. The added costs is about $375. I will never rent from Hertz again. Be advised, Hertz is not a good option. 2 stars for easy pick up and drop off, however, before you leave the place, take a look and see what you are being charged for. I reserved a car online with Expedia, I did not add insurance through Hertz. The representative was very friendly and chatty, looking back on this probably a distraction tactic. They never asked if I wanted insurance, but they added it anyway. I didn't realize this until 2 days later. I called and asked for it to be removed. They said once the car is picked up they can't reverse that charge. I ended up calling Hertz customer service and they are going to refund that money for the insurance but it will take 5-7 business day. I felt the rep was dishonest in adding the insurance without mentioning anything about it, after all they do make a commission off added insurance and upselling. This business gets minus 5 stars. We had a reservation weeks before pickup date. 2 days before pickup date Hertz sends us a reminder, at which time my husband calls to check on some details. Pickup was scheduled for 4:00 pm. At 3:40 as we were walking out the door to rental location, they called to say oh we have no car for you, none at all and maybe tonight maybe tomorrow, just don't know. We went to the Hertz at the airport who told us "oh they are a franchise and we are corporate, can't help you" . Went to the "franchise" and explained the consequences of not being able to leave on time, Ferry boat reservations to the San Juans will be missed, etc. No help but sure "will give a discount when you book with us next time", like that is going to happen! Called corporate customer service. This is late on a Friday, helpful agent is sighing as she hears about this and sends an email to district managers for help who will surely respond within 24 hours ( to late to be of help). It's now 10 days later and guess what, no response. Never again Hertz. And as for Franchises, I did that to go local but probably not again. read more

I find myself in need of a rental car every once in awhile and therefore I have come to find this branch of Hertz incredibly convenient. They typically always can get you a car, even on short notice (who plans to have their car die and end up in the shop for a week at a time? Not this girl). I've tried calling other places first and they'll always give me the run around and make it feel like a hassle. What's a real prize is needing transportation and being given a hard time by a place that's supposed to be helping you out! Hertz isn't ever a hassle to work with. They don't keep you at the counter for very long during pick up or drop off. They are great at marking down known issues with a car before you drive away instead of hoping you don't notice and you bring it back to get stuck with a bill to fix it. The cars are well cleaned before they re-rent them, that's always a super big plus, nobody likes getting into that icky dirty post someone elses road trip, car. The prices are awesome, I was surprised at the affordability to rent for a week at a time. Note that it's usually a better deal to just go ahead and rent for a week than to do a few days. If you put in a reservation online, it's incredibly simple to pick up on your reservation date. No worries about lack of communication between the Hertz website and local store. read more

Do they ever have cars here...? They called about an hour before I was due to pick up a (reserved!) rental car, and was told they may not have one at 2 (the reserved time). But maybe they will later. I asked if they will have one by 4. The dude wasn't answering directly, just kept repeating "I'm very sorry, there should be cars" in a slurred voice. What... does that even mean? Absolutely worst customer service anywhere. I normally don't leave bad reviews but today I am beyond furious. I called Hertz and they confirmed a rental at this location with me. Our truck is in the shop for a new transmission and my husband needed to go to Salem with our other vehicle for an appraisal on the investment property being sold. He dropped me off with our infant daughter and 12 year old son. I waited 40 minutes befor the woman begrudgingly said it was my turn. I walked up, pulled up my reservation email that I did over the phone and she stated (without looking at ANY of my information OR asking my name) she didn't have anything for me. I told her I had the confirmation email and asked her to look at it. She refused while I held my daughter in a carseat and looked at me like I was crazy. I said, "can you please just look up my confirmation number?" she wouldn't even look at it or even ask my name and sent me on my way with no ride, nothing offered, just me and my 2 children way away from home. I was more furious then I've ever been and couldn't believe she wouldn't even look up my information at all and didn't care I had an infant (5 months old) baby with me. I had to call a cab, wait another 20 minutes, pay $40 for the cab and was stuck without any ride at all. Never will I ever use Hertz and will make sure everyone I know, knows what crap service they offer. They could at least teach their employees some manners and how to treat a potential client. Please know that if it were not true, I would not take my time to say it. Yes Hertz has nice cars & the staff is acceptable. However, Hertz as a corporation treats their clients poorly. My bad experience..... #1-when I called Hertz to advise I needed their hold released so I can buy our childs anti seizure medication I was told I was told in so many words "too bad, so sad" & Hertz could not accommodate me (even though they got their car back, I still don't get my money back at the same time). the hold on my debit card caused a NSF fee that Hertz openly admitted they caused, but they refused to refund me! is this fair? #2-Hertz never told me they needed to check my credit before taking position of the car, they waited until the last minute to tell me. I never signed any form giving them permission to check my personal credit. is that fair? #3- when I filed an official complaint w/ Hertz, the rep told me to wait 15-30 days for a response. This is a follow up to my last review, as promised. This is what has happened after I was incorrectly charged with some random insurance that I never agreed to. I emailed the "manager", Flip, at a sketchy, unprofessional email address that the girl gave me. Never heard back. Well, she and the other employees HAD told me that the manager would not respond. I honestly don't know if the address was even legitimate. I doubt it given their behavior. I got a call from the girl about a week later saying that the manager had told her to just charge me anyway. I told her no, she did not have permission to charge my card. I had already put a stop payment on this with my bank. So, they just increased the amount by around fifty dollars and charged my bank account $829.75. WTH Never have I encountered such a bald-faced scam! Negative 5 stars! read more

Renting a car from Hertz was the worst customer service experience we have ever had. On our way to pick up a car that we had reserved two weeks prior for an environmental justice trip, we receive a call from Hertz that we have no car. The lady was extremely rude, giving us no option, just that we are out of luck. She states that it is Spring Break and they ran out of cars. We offered to drive to any location in Oregon as we have a lot of money, time and organizations invested in our trip, but the lady said that no cars are available anywhere in Oregon. We called another Hertz rental in Salem, OR who has a larger vehicle available, but they said they would charge us $30 extra a day (totaling $540 by time our trip is over), instead of allowing us to pay the rate we were promised since Hertz rental made a mistake by taking our car away. Meanwhile, we receive an automatic confirmation email from Hertz that our car is waiting to be picked up that we reserved. We call the 800 number, only for no one to help us at all, making us feel as if this huge mistake is our fault. We are transferred around 8 times! However, no one is willing to help us. Even though Hertz made the mistake!! Finally we have an older adult call the Eugene Hertz and we are told we can have a car that is coming out of the shop. When we arrive at the store, we ask if we are allowed to pay with a debit card, they say no. We offer cash, cashier's check, check, basically we list every option, but they said only a credit card will suffice. As I am young, my credit limit on my credit card is low, and to rent our car it would cost $1,300. I drive to my credit union to try to find a solution. Meanwhile, my friend stays behind at Hertz. While she is there, a group of students come in to rent a car. They can only pay with a debit card as well, but instead of being turned away and told they can only pay with a credit card, they are told that the debit card will be fine. After they pay with their debit card, the manager, Duane, then offers the students a choice between the vehicle we have reserved and a smaller car (they make more money if they rent the larger car). However, we reserved a large vehicle because it was necessary to fit our project. I return back to Hertz and rent the car with my debit card. This whole time the manager, Duane, is making me uncomfortable as he stops helping other customers to come stand behind the lady who is helping me. He then proceeds to follow me outside as another employee is helping me get my vehicle. He laughs at me as I accidentally run into the fence, but he still will not make eye contact with me. I get the keys and try to shake the manager's hand, instead he walks away from me. We couldn't even be relieved because this whole debacle cost us hours and made us really late for our trip. I have never felt more profiled in my life nor have I had a worse customer service experience. No one even apologized for the mistake. I reserved a car to travel to California at the time it was reserved online and my credit card was charged $207. I went to pick up the car and the first time my credit card was swiped it was declined. They insist on holding an additional $200 "just in case you ding the car." Of course I have full insurance and that was ridiculous. I called my bank and cleared up the issue but I was told they can't use the same card twice "To avoid fraud." To avoid giving customers their cars I think. Anyway, since I only have one credit card I was unable to rent the car. I went to Enterprise the next morning. The rental was cheaper as they currently have a great deal with Costco. They only hold $250 on your card, including the cost of the rental and the entire process was so much faster and easier. I then called the Hertz 800 billing number to get a refund of the $207 they already charged me. They didn't even start the process until I called, it wasn't automatic, and it takes 10-14 business days to process the refund. Quite a scam they have going on. read more

I realized I didn't like the manager guy immediately with his smug/awkward upselling tactics; As if I don't have the brains to figure out what kind of car I need when booking online? The car they gave me stopped accelerating somewhere in Northern California in triple-digit heat, and,i when I called the 7th St office, guess what Mr. Manager guy says: "Well, it was working this morning, something must have happened." Brilliant. I wound up wasting money on another hotel, missed my whole purpose for going to the SF Bay, and when I return the car, what does Mr. Manager-guy say? In April was in a car accident and my insurance put me in a rental .... with hertz ... I had it for a week that's what my insurance would pay for . I call and ask for three more days the lady I talk to was awesome and said yes ! I called back to say I was going to need it for 4 more days at this point I was paying for this rental out of my own pocket . Well the manager was rude with me and said he expected the car back three days ago. He also said he had other people who needed the car more than I did. he wanted the car at 3 the next day. Talk about kicking a person when there down .thank you hertz for doing so. I would not recommend that you take them if your insurance say this is who we go through. find some other place . My girlfriend call the same day that i was told to bring the car back at 3 to rent a car and same manager said he could get her in to a car at 1. I will never deal with hertz again. .. When I review businesses, it's almost always a positive review. I wish I could say the same for this business. I received terrible customer service from the day I picked up the van, to turning it in, and weeks later when I questioned charges on my credit card. Each question I asked customer service in Eugene, they did not know the answer for. When I declined services (like the LDW - loss damage waiver), it still ended up on my bill. I was told when I ended up bringing my van back 3 days early, that I could fill up my gas tank and leave the receipt, and I would not be charged for the prepaid tank of gas I originally agreed to. When I was charged for the prepaid tank of gas I was told, "I'll ask my boss and call you back". I was told that 3 times, and still have not heard back from the "boss" a couple months later! I rent cars often, and this is the worst service I've ever received. And they wouldn't budge at all with their refusal to refund money they unfairly charged to my credit card. I was told there is no manager of this store, and they refused to give me a regional manager's contact or a way to file a complaint! I came in after someone hit my car. I was told by Brenda that they would be holding $85 from my checking account, but that wouldn't be until the next week. I asked why this is necessary, as this accident was in no way my fault and the girls insurance company was covering it all, but Brenda ignored my question, and, instead kept trying to get me to pay for their insurance package. She was really pushy! Then, imagine my surprise when they held $185 THE NEXT DAY! It was too late to call them and complain, because I needed those funds and couldn't get access to them. The next afternoon, the hold came off of the funds. What a pain. Then, when I dropped the car off a few weeks later, I filled it with gas, but then asked if I had to, when I got to the office. I had to deal with Brenda...AGAIN. She looked up my contract, as I informed her of the hold fiasco. She then stated that, per my contract, I DID NOT need to fill it with gas and I could expect a refund. SHOCKER! It never got credited. I called and asked Brenda and her story changed. She claimed that she "never said any of that" and that what she said was "I was charged money at the beginning that they credited, so, yes, I had to fill it with gas." I asked her if that was true, why didn't she mention ANY of that when I informed her of the hold and when she looked up my contract? She didn't have an answer for that--she just kept getting defensive. You can't argue with people like that, so I gave up. My car had one more issue when I finally got it back and I had to take it back to the shop. I made sure the rental car they gave me was not from Hertz! They assured me that they only go through Enterprise, as, in the past, many of their customers complained about Hertz and all their sketchy tactics. I went into Enterprise and they were amazing! I told them about my experience at Hertz and they were apologetic, even though this was their competitor. He informed me that he would only hold five dollars in my account and, when I brought the car back the same day, he refunded me that five dollars. What a great company! I honestly made a yelp account just to write this review cause I'm absolutely pissed. My boyfriend and I are going to Seattle tonight after he gets off of work, and I don't want to take my car because it needs an oil change and I don't want to put that many miles on it. SO, I booked a reservation online and it sent a confirmation for a pick up on west 11th. That's wrong. That's Hertz car sales. So on a time crunch as my boyfriend was on his lunch break, we drove all the way back toward downtown in traffic over to west 7th only for them to tell us that they had no cars. We had a confirmation email and everything, but they had nothing. They suggested we try the Eugene airport or Enterprise. So I call the Hertz airport number listed via Google and it's not even for Hertz. It's some random car rental place. I go to Hertz's website, call the airport number listed there, it's just a remotely based representative who quotes me prices for the airport rentals that are more than double the original price we booked. There's no way to contact anyone other than another random representative and instead of spending the afternoon preparing for the trip, I've been driving back and forth and calling random numbers. There's no way for me to talk to someone who will make this right so I guess I won't try to rent from Hertz again. Now I have to find a rental place that doesn't close in the next half hour, or squeeze in an oil change and tack on those miles to my car. read more

Hi pressure upsell! Manager told me that I couldn't rent the car without buying insurance since I did not have a proof of insurance card. I called him out on that, and he relented and rented me the car. Also, I'm not sure that I wasn't scammed into having to buy a windshield. The manager specifically asked me to look at the windshield and with a glance I saw no dings. When I returned, he charged me $160 for a ding that was so small, that its quite likely the ding was there already there. If I could give this place less than one star, I would. read more

I really felt duped by the folks at Hertz. I was in a car accident (not my fault) and went in to rent a car that my insurance was paying for. I was pressured to pay 9.99 per day (the cheapest option) for the rental car insurance that my insurance would not pay for. When I questioned it, she implied it was mandatory. NOT!! I should have called my insurance company right away to ask about this. But, I got busy and didn't call to my own error. When my car was finally repaired and I returned the vehicle, I complained about the charges. I was told that everything is OPTIONAL and that I signed for it, and this was simply "insurance" for the deductible on my regular insurance in case I got in an accident with the rental car. This is something I DID NOT NEED NOR DID I WANT!! I would not have agreed to this if I had understood that it was optional. BUYER BEWARE! These folks are trying to bilk out as much money from your pocket as they can get. Getting money from the insurance company is not enough for them. They are preying on folks that have recently been shaken up emotionally from a car accident. They are deceptive in their business practices and I will never do business with them again.
