And to call a customer service number to try to get a refund. They didn't bother to call to let me know that they didn't have the vehicle I reserved and didn't seem to care. Worst experience renting a vehicle yet. The staff here is completely inept and inconsiderate. The hertz app, also a joke. On the app, they pretend to allow you to pick your vehicle (I needed to ensure I had a car large enough to fit 4 kids + car seats/booster), but when I arrived, the employees stated they "never offered XYZ car", and proceeded to try and put me in a smaller car, at a higher rate. Uh, what? He didn't even attempt to rectify the situation. I would go anywhere else, or just consider hiring a driver for a week if your car is in the shop. If I hadn't followed up on my own, I would've never known that today is allegedly the last day of my rental coverage. I received no email, no text, no proper contract--just silence. Let me be clear: I had a car accident on May 27th. Unfortunately, the car was totaled. Since May 28th, I've started sending emails and making phone calls for a rental car. Finally, after 26 days, I received a rental car from Hertz. I was given a flat-tired Tesla on June 23rd that couldn't be driven. I reported it immediately and repeatedly, but received no usable car until July 3rd -- after ten days of phone calls and unanswered messages. Even after I finally got a usable vehicle, the contract number Hertz gave me doesn't even exist in their online system. When I asked for clarification in writing, I was pressured to call instead of getting a written response. Why avoid documentation if everything is legitimate? I also asked a simple yes/no question: When did you start counting the rental period? From June 23, the day you handed me an unusable car? Or from July 3, when I finally got a working one after days of stress? No answer. And now I'm left wondering if they plan to bill the insurance for days when the car was sitting undriveable in my parking spot, while I was begging for a replacement. PLEASE READ Scenario: you your wife your cousin and your baby are taking a three hour trip to corpus for a funeral, but need an SUV to make the trip as you have luggage and strollers that need to be covered from the rain, so you decide HERTZ is a good fit since they show that they have a Nissan Rogue or similar mid sized SUV, you set it aside 2 days before the departure date (which should be plenty of time to get a heads up) we get to the rental location and we see nothing but a white jeep commander there, I think nothing of it I go inside and the man greets me and we get started he then informs me that they only have the gladiator and that it's good because it's an upgrade on the vehicle I had asked for, I told him "look outside I have the same size truck" and I said "I need a covered vehicle for my babies things and our luggage" because we already knew it was goin go to be rainy that day, he says "well this one is better and it not much of a difference that you have to pay to get it... at this point I'm already fuming and I tell him "I will not pay a cent more for this" and he says "but it's a premium vehicle" to which I replied "I don't need another truck if I wanted luxury I would have opted for the Tesla with enterprise" he then proceeded to try and show me the car and tell me that if I wanted something else I'd have to wait a few hours, mind you we were already going to be cutting it close to get there on time as the whole point was to be there for our bereaved family members and show unity... I told him this and I told him we knew it would rain, he pretended to look at his phone and said "there won't be rain" and that the truck was safe so I said "ok we will take it" (I should have left it) the whole point at that time was that the truck was newer and we'd have less risk of being left on the middle of the road somewhere so anything was better than nothing at this point, so I sign get the keys and then he leaves somewhere, as soon as I turn on the truck I notice that the back right tire is low on air (first bad sign) so I tell the other guy that's there and he says "it's probably the weather" in not an idiot... I tell him "dude come on, the weather won't change it like that unless it's really cold (psi goes down) or really hot (goes up)... it was 73 degrees... so then he says "well then just add air at discount tire" I said ok whatever (we had to add air 4 times during the trip and then had my brother fix the leak once at the location... while on the road maybe 10 minutes after taking the truck, it starts raining and it continues on and off till about 12:00 at this point our luggage and our wagon stroller are drenched and unusable so we had to wear what we had on... at some point during the trip on a turn the truck starts to fishtail and continued to do so a total of 5 times during regular corners and turns and at some of those points there were near misses with other cars all this because the back tire was low or was getting low during those points and put my baby my wife my unborn child my cousin and myself in mortal danger all because they don't check their cars properly and don't have the fleet necessary for what they offer... My Brother and family were visiting over the weekend to attend my daughter's funeral. They had a rental vehicle reserved (from this location with confirmation #'s) prior to leaving home in WI. The vehicle was needed in order to commute to the airport from my home to catch their flight back to WI later in the day on Nov. 17th. 5 mins prior to leaving my house to pickup the vehicle, they received a text stating that this location didn't have a vehicle and they could not fulfil the reservation. My Brother called the location and found the staff to be very inept. They couldn't even locate their reservation and then stated that they didn't have a truck available. My Brother had reserved an SUV, but the clerk kept stating it was a truck, however, they didn't have an SUV available either. The clerk could barely speak English and was very difficult to understand. My Brother didn't want me to have to drive them to the airport in Houston traffic considering my state of mind (after losing my daughter) as well as the time frame of their flight's departure. Avoid if you can. I made a reservation yesterday through my insurance. I was sent a confirmation and asked to call into the location an hour before my pickup. I called in and they transferred me to this location. I called in for the hour check in and the guy was just unpleasant. Kicked off more responsibility to me saying his driver wasn't back and I would need to call back in 15. Why am I calling to chase a pickup reservation? The driver was really nice, but when I got to this location their reader couldn't take my card through the swipe. I had just used it at another location and checked in with my bank- all was good. I asked if they could do a chip, tap, applepay or manually enter it. Nothing- he said they couldn't do anything and then he proceeded to be rude and unhelpful, then stormed out of the office muttering under his breathe at me when I said I'd call into corporate to figure out what to do. If you have to go to this location and use hertz, I'd recommend working with someone other than juwan. After, I sat on the phone with hertz for 2 hours getting transferred. Made a reservation at this place around two or three days before I needed the car. Received a call the night before reservation date; AFTER hours (around 7 pm) telling me that they didn't have a car. I asked why they waited until last minute to notify me of this because I needed the car for my road trip that started the next day and couldn't give me an explanation. I had to rent a car here because my car was being fixed and this is who my insurance uses. Called ahead to see what was available, showed up to get it. There was a bit of a wait, but I was taken care of pretty quickly. What I did not like was that the manager was sooo pushy and annoying trying to get me to purchase the insurance. Like we both know that I have car insurance and I don't need the extra coverage. So when I told him I didn't want it, he literally took all the time until I drove off thinking of scenarios to throw at me to convince me to pay. It's annoying, some of us are aware of how that whole throng works and I really should only have to say it once for you to understand. When I came to return the car, I dealt with the same person who tried to charge me. I said that I called to make sure my insurance had sent over the reservation, there were a few issues with that but we got it covered. I ended up having to pay a dollar and change but he needed to charge me $2. They have a credit card machine that didn't work...weird. Was here maybe one yr ago and wanted you to know my experience. Worst experience ever. I was on a business trip and reserved a car 1 week before the pickup date. I arrived with my co-workers on the scheduled date and time to rent a sedan. The Hertz employee behind the counter said we don't have any sedan and only a compact car was available. He was also rude and unwilling to provide a solution. Hertz has poor service and rude. They should have called me in advance to inform me my car was not available. I went across the street to Avis and they saved my day. I was able to rent a mid size SUV for the same price as the sedan from Hertz. Stay away from Hertz. read more

The manager at the location at 9099 Westheimer was useless and would only give me the phone number to the billing department, that would have been understandable if she would have given any indication that she cared about my dilemma. She also insisted that a funds release would happen with in 1 to 5 days, The billing department said 5 to 7 days. It was the seventh day that I spoke to her. I had a terrible experience here and will never use Hertz for a rental car ever again, especially this location. They have no cars available and if they do, they lie to you and say that they don't. I went in after speaking to someone who works there and said they would have a car for me, but when I got there I spoke to someone else who said they had no cars available, to which I said that I spoke with his coworker and informed him that he had a car for me. So after that, all of a sudden they do have a car for me. Next, the car they gave me wasn't functioning properly and the gear shifter wouldn't shift from park to drive, which almost forced me to get it towed, but it eventually started working again. After informing Hertz of this they said they would be glad to have me exchange it for another vehicle, except that they didn't have any other vehicles so I had to continue using the faulty car. Then, when I went into return the car there was only one person working there and was helping a customer, with two more waiting behind. I ended up just dropping the keys off with the person working there after waiting for her to be done, but never was. They said they would just email me the receipt since no one was there to do it in the store. I also returned the vehicle with a half tank of gas when they gave it to me only a quarter full (you're welcome Hertz). I made a reservation online for a full size car...Chrysler 200 or similar...and I got there 40 minutes after they opened and then I found that they didn't have the type of car I wanted. You may say it is normal and this kind of thing happens, BUT No one told me this when I called them in the morning, when they just opened, and when I WAS DOING THE CHECK-IN!!!!! In fact, the staff was not going to mention this up. He led me to a red compact Hyundai and asked me to sign the contract. I questioned about the size of the car and that was the first time he told me that they were out of full size vehicle. Hmmmm...is it something that you should tell me before you wipe my card? Apparently, he didn't care about his client and didn't want take any effort to find another way...a better way to solve this issue. I could only take it or cancel it. If I was trying to catch a flight, he just left me no choice but took the car I didn't want. Thank god I am not! When my car was in the shop after getting rear ended, the insurance company made me a reservation at this office. The car they rented to me was FILTHY and I was told this was the only car available. I had to stop and buy cleaning wipes because everything was sticky and dirty. The air vents looked like someone had sprayed some sort of deodorizer into it that crusted up the vents and smelled so gross I had to ride with the windows open. When I returned the car, there were 4 people in the office and they kept bouncing me back and forth because they all wanted to just sit and talk. Mentioning how dissatisfied I was with the car was met with an apathetic apology. I only had it for a couple of days and didn't have to pay for it, otherwise I would have made more of a fuss. I went to this location to pick up a car rented for me by my insurance. The manager advised me to get an additional insurance from Hertz for additional coverage on the car I was renting. I told her my car was going to be at the mechanic for five days and I purchased their extended coverage for these five days. When I called them to drop the car they asked me to drop it at another location and they charged me for extra two days after I had dropped their car I called them and complained and they took off the charges. I, later on, realized they had charged me for insurance for 31days and when I called the manager she said oh we charged you for all the days you had the car. And I like I paid for 5 days of additional coverage only, she like no you were supposed to come back and remove the coverage after 5 days and I was like but you didn't tell me that she said you were supposed to read the contract. Since you signed it we cannot refund you. I called their customer service they said they will call me back after 48hrs. They called me back after 5 days and said they had investigated and there was nothing they can do when I asked to speak to their supervisor they put me on hold for 45mins and when he finally got on the phone he was very rude. He won't let me talk all he kept on saying was the is nothing he can do. Hertz needs to train their employees and tell them to stop giving wrong information to customers. When I arrived to this Westheimer location, the woman at the desk- Crystal, I think- tells me that my reservation came through after they closed and they didn't have an economy car (the one I booked) returned yet. Mind you, they close at 6pm and my confirmation email clearly came in before 5:30p... She then proceeds to tell me that they would NOT be having a Group B car returned to AT ALL. Their next return wont be until after 1pm today and it's a midsize so I would have to pay an upgrade fee. WTH why should I have to pay extra when it was their error. She offered me no other options, she didn't even bother to try and locate a location that could possibly have what I reserved. I had to ask her where the next closest location was. Super bad customer service! But wait there's more! I got home and called customer service and spoke with Reba-I think, she talked was too fast when she answered- I told her the situation and SHE got upset with me! She began raising her voice telling me that, "We have no control over someone returning the car on time. People may have a return time for 9 am, but sometimes they're late or they extend their rentail... unless you pay the "Guaranteed reserve" price we cannot guarantee there will be a car available for you." When I told her that this location told me they wouldn't have any type of the car I booked available today at all and that I didn't understand why the website would allow me to book that location if there wasn't any cars in que there, she got snappy and said again about the "guarantee". She never once offered me a solution. This is my first time dealing with this company and as a first time "customer", and customer is in quotes because I received NO type of service, this situation left a VERY bad taste in my mouth. Three workers, only one customer before me, and I still waited more than half an hour. Made Christmas reservation in Hillcroft location 4 months ago, and got a reminder email that I go pickup AT THAT LOCATION yesterday. I was directed to 9099 Westheimer, where they told me that the Hillcroft location is NOT CORPORATE OWNED and has been CLOSED 3 months ago, and Westheimer is not going to honor my contract and I need to pay almost double the price today. It is "amazing" how no one notified me about this change, or at least cancel my reservation... and I thought chain stores should at least have a network that handles branch-responsible problems like this. I called 800 customer service and got the same answers, so now I don't have a suitable car for Christmas travels and seems nothing can be done. This is all unacceptable and I will never rent with Hertz again and I will recommend to all my friend to avoid it. read more

I am a very understanding person when it comes to mix-ups and mishaps, but I'm also a firm believer in taking care of your customers when you have made a mistake. I reserved a full size vehicle with this Hertz on Westheimer and Jeanetta a week in advance. My reservation was for 7:30. When I arrived I was told that they had no full size vehicles in stock. The only cars they had available were 2 full size SUV's, and 1 smaller SUV. I was told that I couldn't get the smaller SUV, because it was set to be serviced today, and that I couldn't be upgraded to any of the full size SUV'S because it was 2 stars above the car I reserved. Now this is not my first time having an issue with this particular Hertz not having a vehicle that I have reserved ready, and I must say that I have reserved cars with them before and have had no problems. My whole issue with this situation is not that they didn't have the car available, but that they knew I had a 7:30am reservation, and that they wouldn't have a car available. No one called to let me know that they wouldn't be able to fulfill my reservation, and then if you know that you have inconvenienced your customer, you should be willing to make accommodations to make sure that the customer is taken care of. To say we "can't upgrade you" after they have made the mistake is ludacris. A simple phone call would be all that was needed. Customer Service is very important when in a business where the competition is steep, and by the way, customer service is more than smiling and being friendly, it's also making sure that the customer is taken care of while under your services. I will say that all of the people there are always friendly, but a heads up would have been nice. You got to do better Hertz. read more

I rented a car through Hertz.com for the Hilcroft location. I show up at the time of my reservation and they have no car for me! I get to this 9099 Westheimer location as soon as I can before it closes, and the representative has a bit of attitude. Someone on the Hertz side should have advised where to get the Hertz car before the location change. My time was wasted trying to rush to find the 2nd location. Unbelievable that Hertz would allow this bad customer service. It is such a simple task just to inform the customer of the correct location in the first place! This last rental, I called and requested for Wed, but then called back and said Thurs, then, last minute back to Wed. Car was clean fueled up and ready. This location is dependable.
