Picking up our vehicle was amazing. We were delayed coming in due to air traffic control issues at our departing airport. This would get us into the airport after 12pm when the counter closes. Spoke to Beth at the counter over the phone and she was amazing to work with. She calmly took note of our flight details and gave us clear directions for when we arrive. We kept in touch three more times and was appreciative for the communication between the both of us. Not once was she annoyed or dismissive. She was pleasant, professional, and welcoming upon arrival. Returning the car was a bit confusing, we parked in our spot and was looking for the Hertz rep. I use Hertz exclusively as a gold member and rented a car while in Knoxville on business. This was my first time landing in Knoxville and I was pleasantly surprised to find the rental car counter right there in baggage claim. Unfortunately it took about 20 minutes for the agent to find me a car even though I had a reservation. He eventually found me a car and I was on my way. I had my car for five days and experienced no issues with the vehicle. My flight home was a 6am flight so I did the early bird drop off. It was easy to navigate back to the rental car return garage and clear instructions were documented to write your mileage on the contract and leave it along with the keys inside the airport at the Hertz counter early bird box. Once I returned home to California I noticed I did not have a receipt emailed to me (8 hrs later). I called the Knoxville Hertz counter directly and they had my correct email. The lady resent the receipt and I received it immediately. Not sure why it wasn't sent in the first place? A couple of hiccups on this rental but they were worked out. read more

I use Hertz because I am a retired employee of the UW-Madison, so I get a special rate. We flew into Knoxville and went right to the cars to pick what we wanted and drive to the cashier. Everything went smoothly. The car was a Hundai Elantra and it rode very well and was clean. My only criticism was when returning the car, and because of an early flight departure, no one was there, so we left the keys in the car. I did get the receipt in an email. It would be nice to put a sign by the cashier where to leave the keys. read more

Avoid this Hertz rental on Seven Oaks drive in Knoxville TN. They are LIARS and CHEATS and difficult to deal with. My wife rented a car for 10 days and they didn't honor the USAA 25% discount plus one free rental day. She had to make several trips back to their office to get several refunds for over charges. A month later we are still arguing for the refund for 25% discount and free rental day. They offered points for future rental from corporate..but we usually don't rent cars, this was an emergency for us ..Sure as Hell will never use Hertz EVER.!!!!!! read more

I rented the vehicle last minute at the counter when we flew in to Knoxville. The woman that took care of us was wonderful. But upon return, the woman whom met us at our vehicle was horribly rude. She rushed us to get our things out of the jeep and when I asked hiw her day was going, she replied "it's good until people make me wait 15 minutes to return a car". Implying that directly to us. We still had a few things, from our drive, to put into our bags and she kept pushing us with her rudeness, where we had to take everything out and put it on the ground to get ready. We still had many hours until the rental was due back. Also, when we arrived, she told us we were going to be late for our flight and that security was over 30 minutes long, which there was no line or way of her knowing. I realized I only had a half a tank of gas in the jeep and was going to go back out and fill it up down the road, except she wasn't going to let that happen. She took the keys from me as soon as I pulled in the parking spot. Our flight was actually over an hour delayed and there was no one in the TSA line. I ended up being charged $160 for less than a half of tank of gas, that I was trying to go get filled up. She made the end of our trip miserable and unnecessarily stressful, while costing me $160. I will never rent from Hertz again due to this incident. I have a rental car right now for 2 weeks and will be renting for a couple months because of an accident recently, where someone ran a red light and totalled my new truck and I specifically chose another company due to this incident. It is unfortunate because the initial rental and vehicle we were put in was wonderful and at a good rate, but due to the woman that receives the returning cars, we will never use Hertz again and will continue to share our experience we had with your company and how you treat fully disabled service connected combat veterans. read more

Such a long wait for rental cars, anticipate an hour wait during peak travel times. Only two employees handling multiple car rental agencies. Even if you are a gold member, there's no separate line to rent a car. Noticed a handful of customers that were having issues and on the phone, yet, they don't ask them to move aside to help the waiting customers. Seemed like a lot of the car options were Dodge Chargers, and though fun to drive, they don't seem to have other options. At one point they only had pickup trucks left! read more

After a terrible experience with Hertz in Chicago I resolved never to use the company again. Wanting a one-way rental from Knoxville and Hertz being the only company who would offer this type of reservation, I was left with no choice. I had a 10 AM reservation for a mid-sized SUV and prepaid over $1000 for it. I arrived and once I re-confirmed the mailing address that Hertz has on record, I was asked whether I was "staying in Eastern Tennessee." This was my first time in Knoxville and I didn't truly know what part of the state I was in, but after some back and forth I realized that this was a roundabout way of confirming whether my rental was a one-way rental. Since this should have been easily looked up in whatever system they had, I began to get nervous. I was told that they were "bringing the car up", which is another vague and perplexing statement, and was told that they'd let me know when it was "brought up." Again, being a novice when it comes to rental cars, I had no idea what this meant. Up from the gas station? Up from the holding lot? Up from another location? Up to the door? The woman behind the counter seemed nice enough so I sat down to wait. At 10:45 I approached the counter again to speak to a different woman whose name was Misty. Again, seemed nice enough. Now my car was ready. She confirmed basic details, told me how to get to the Hertz booth in the garage, and then told me it was a Subaru Legacy. I had a holdonaminutemyhighschoolbuddyhadthatcarandit'saSEDAN moment, pivoted on my right heel, and pointed out this discrepancy. She said it was the only car they had. It was "fine" with me since it *is* a large sedan. This information could have been volunteered at the counter or emailed to me ahead of time, and it bothered me that it wasn't. Things turned bad when I asked whether there was a difference in price between car classes and how that would work out. Is this not a normal question--to ask if an inferior rental car might be cheaper and if the customer could be refunded the difference between what was paid for and what was received? I was lead to believe that it was a *very* abnormal question. Misty told me that "because it was a prepaid reservation" there was nothing she could do. If I had instead not prepaid, she could have adjusted price on the spot. According to her, it was indeed a cheaper car. I asked her to help resolve the issue since there was now a difference in payment involved, and she told me to call Hertz with "proof." I asked her how to obtain proof, and she told me to "go online and check the reservation price." I asked her to repeat herself as I was genuinely flummoxed as to how I could be cast into call center hell while I was still standing at the Hertz counter. She managed to throw in a "I don't know WHERE you made this reservation, but it is PRE--PAID!" Hi, Misty, this reservation was made on the internet, on Hertz' website. Meanwhile, the guy next to me was *simultaneously* cast into call center hell by the other agent. He went down a rabbit hole related to a bill that was apparently unsettled (by fault of another office, based on his explanation) and asked "how can you help me?" and was told "I can Google the number for you." I can Google the number for you. Back to Misty--I requested that she do the legwork and provide the current quote and a statement attesting to the price difference that I could then use if I seriously had to call Hertz corporate (or file a CC dispute). She responded, annoyed: "dO yOu WaNt Me To TeXt It To YoU???" No? Using something resembling a Hertz branded electronic record might make more sense. Or, god forbid, CCing a billing rep on said electronic communication to help give me peace of mind. That's where I was hoping to go but she simply "confirmed" my email address, sent me on my way, never sent the email, and now I'm exactly where I started and don't know if I can obtain the proof required to get the refund I am entitled to. read more

Hertz at TYS sucks. No one at the parking lot kiosk, so you have to go to the baggage claim desk and stand in line. Even if you're President's Circle. They gave me a Dodge Charger and although the vehicle had only 9000 miles on it the passenger side seat was threadbare, the plastic lens that covers the speedometer was cracked and the left front tire was indicating way low. When I came back to return the car and walked back into the terminal (the garage kiosk was unmanned) the agent gave me attitude asking if I'd taken pictures and suggesting all the other rent car kiosks in the garage were closed, too (they were not). He suggested that TYS was a "bitty" airport, and the kiosk was not manned, necessitating the walk back into the terminal. He went out to make sure my complaints were valid, and when he came back he validated my concerns saying it was a sensor problem. Nonetheless, they rented me a new vehicle. All in all the checkin process and the return/exchange wasted nearly an hour of my time. Be forewarned at Hertz TYS. They suck. read more

The absolute worst experience I have ever had out of 200+ rentals. Reserved a convertible awhile out to celebrate a special trip to Dollywood and the smokies for my anniversary. Arrived for the pick up, and had to come back to the counter and wait after walking out to the garage and noticing there was no gold board. There was only a single individual working the entire location, so as you can imagine, it was not a fast process in any sense of the word. Upon getting up there, he confirms my reservation, charges my card, and passes me my keys and spot #. The car in said spot turned out to be neither the advertised ford mustang, nor convertible. Usually this wouldn't be a big deal, but seeing as we had paid nearly TRIPLE the price of the other vehicles and the one we had been assigned, and have done this trip through the mountains 3 years in a row now to celebrate our first time here, I went back to wait in line to clear up what I thought was just a simple mistake. The only thing "simple" was the individual working there who confidently proceeded to tell me that they "don't own any convertibles in the first place". When I asked why I was able to book one and why he had CHARGED me without even letting me know I was getting a vehicle of lesser value, I received a shrug and a "no clue". When asked if there was anything else available or other locations, the answers were equally disappointing and void of any actual service. Not wanting to let the better half down, I asked if we could just cancel the reservation for a full refund so we could look elsewhere. I was assured this was no issue and said that it was fine if he processed it later, as I didn't want to hold up the extensive line. After calling corporate, I was once again assured I would be fully refunded. After over an hour of speaking to other rental agencies, we thankfully found a car and decided to just let things slide as s*** happens. That was until I received a notification of a $504 charge for a FULL DAY RENTAL FROM HERTZ. The car was not marked as returned until 6 hours after we had left the airport, though it had never even be turned on. No one is available to speak on the phone. The corporate President's circle number doesn't work. The only communication I have received after 7 attempted calls with customer service has been an additional receipt of the bs charge. For 5 years, I have instructed my employees and I to use Hertz as our preferred vendor, and spent over $65,000 last year alone with them. Formal complaints will be filed with corporate against this location (a franchisee and not a corporate location *Shocker*) through every channel we have available. I also have already begun reaching out to other rental companies to make a formal switch for our company overall. As a positive note, Becca at the Enterprise location here was by far the most helpful, supportive person I have ever worked with, and I HIGHLY recommend just going with another vendor at this location, even if Hertz is your usual go-to. As an added bonus, Enterprise was also $300 cheaper overall than Hertz for a better vehicle selection. Hopefully we see Hertz clean up the performance of their licensee's, as I hope no one has to begin their trip the way that we did. Good riddance, see you in hell read more

I ordered and prepaid for a Yukon GMC and when I landed and went to the Hertz desk I was told that they do not even have any large SUV's! BEWARE!! THIS IS NOT A REAL HERTZ LOCATION, THEY ARE HORRIBLE! My Brother passed away and I came into town to help clean out his home. I ended up staying longer in Knoxville and wanted to extend my rental. I called the counter several times and no one answered. I called the Hertz Platinum desk and they had no record of my contract. ( Because this is not a Corporate Hertz location.) A couple of days later I received a call from Misty asking me if I needed to extend my reservation and I said yes I did. She told me I would have to come into the airport and she would re-rent the car. I told her that I was at the Hospital ( my Sister in law was dying as well). So it wouldn't be until 3:00pm. I arrived at 3:00 and went to the counter and asked for Misty. Three other girls stood there staring as Misty tried to re-rent me the car. But somehow she couldn't rent me the car again, because someone had written that she hadn't heard from me. Misty told the other girl that she had spoken to me twice. They shrugged it off and said they couldn't rent me the car again. The car was full of my Brothers things that I needed to deliver to his children and mail back home. I was told that I could not take the car that I would have to empty it. Can you imagine?! They wanted me to empty my dead Brothers things at the airport! Where is the empathy?! As I walked out to the car the other girl Kyleigh Douglas followed me, watching me as she sucked on her lollipop. I left with the intention of unloading the car and then returning it. Kyleigh called me to tell me that she was calling the police to report the car stolen. I ran my errands dropping off my Brothers things and mailing the rest, and then started to return the car. But these people had called Cole's Recovery to repossess the car. (Go ahead and look at the review I left for them) they were just as awful!! They repossessed the car as I was returning it, with me in it. I had to literally jump out of the car leaving my handbag in it. I am still shocked and appalled that this location is still allowed to exist, after all the terrible things they have said and done to so many customers. I tried to report them to BBB, but they aren't even BBB accredited. This company is owned by GSP Transportation Inc, out of Greer South Carolina. IT IS NOT A CORPORATE LOCATION. These guys are crooks. I returned my car and received my invoice, showing a bogus $14.97 charge for roadside assistance. When I called about it, the woman told me they had changed their system several months ago and there was nothing she could do about the charge. I got my money back but who knows how many people they have stolen from over the past several months, and if they're still doing it. I complained to Hertz corporate, but they don't seem to care. I got my money back from Amex, but the point is that these guys are stealing from people. I won't be using Hertz at all going forward, since they don't care. read more

There were two Megan's working when we landed and I guess MI licenses always cause issues and the machines weren't taking it and if they can't get your license they can't let you rent a car! But the Megan's tried all the machines and went next door to a sister rental company and used theirs to make sure we got a car. They were so sweet, and grateful that we weren't being mean to them (I guess some people blame them for machines not working #rude). The manager's special is a trick to make you pay in full in advance for a rental. In addition, when a trip is obviously cancelled due to the corona virus pandemic, they use this as an excuse to not refund your rental fee in full in order to keep $50 of the rental fee. Made a reservation to pick up car Saturday night. My flight was supposed to be in at 920pm, but because of airline delays I did not get into tyson McGhee until 10:30. Got to hertz counter and it was closed!!! Website says they are open to 11pm. I was there at 10:45. Most other rental desks were still opened and waiting for late arrivals. Ended up having to uber to my lodging (65$), then take a taxi($$$$) back to the airport the following morning to get the rental. Taxi driver said this is not the first time she'd driven someone this had happened to with hertz. Woman at Hertz desk was unprofessional. Could've cared less about my situation.
