Once they finally opened, I was told that my reserved vehicle was no longer available. The only options were upgrades, which required paying a significant extra amount. I asked why their lack of planning and poor availability should fall on me as the customer, especially with a confirmed reservation. I was told "it is what it is" -- either pay more for a different vehicle or get nothing. When I called customer service, the representative suggested I should have called ahead before showing up, which defeats the purpose of having a reservation in the first place. Thankfully, I went to another location and had a much better experience. I would strongly recommend avoiding this one.

First, they did not have any cars available for 3 days. Then, they called me at 8AM after day 3, wondering when I wanted my car... I had told them 3 days prior that I wanted it as soon as possible. They let me know that they should have a car soon, and that they'd give me a call later that day. Noon rolls around and no call. I still need a car and I'm fed up. They take an hour lunch break at 12:30 PM, so I called them exactly at 1:30 PM. No answer. I have to call repeatedly throughout the day to talk to someone. Then finally I get a car. Except it wasn't the one I was promised... whatever, at least I have a car now.

    For some reason I have ALWAYS had a terrible experience with customer service at Enterprise yet i…read morego back thinking it will get better. Well at first i was wrong. Yesterday, I went to the Enterprise in Santee, CA with a reserved vehicle. Ubered there from my place about an hour after reserving the vehicle, got there, and they basically said "we're out of vehicles and you're SOL." I asked if there was anything they could do since i was now stranded there, and they said no.. you can try back in a few hours and basically stared at me until i walked out. So rude and dismissive, and they never called me to tell me the reservation was wrong...i was so upset. Called Enterprise in El Cajon, CA, a guy on the phone reserved a vehicle that said it was on the lot.. i said great. He said it'll be ready in 1 hour. Just so i didn't make the same mistake, i called Enterprise in El Cajon, (got hung up on after holding twice) and then they called and said to not come down they don't have cars. I asked how did someone JUST reserve a car for me that now isn't there? It makes no sense. I then went home via uber again, wasting my money upset, yet again. 1 hour later i got a called from El Cajon, they got a car for me ready and i picked it up. The staff there decent but gossiping about other coworkers in front of me which i thought was unprofessional but whatever.. that's the world. Today my mechanic called and said my truck got done earlier than expected. Awesome. I was in La Mesa where my ride was, so i called Enterprise in La Mesa and spoke with Jesse who right off the bat made both those Enterprises customer service look like a nasty, dirty, beat down gas station in the middle of nowhere. He welcomes me to bring the car back there, and i head over. He then again welcomes me, greets me like we've known each other for years and is the friendliest customer service rep I've come across in years. I don't do too many Yelps but he is so deserving of turning this god awful experience completely around and restoring my faith in this company. THANK YOU SO MUCH JESSE. You deserve so much in this world and if you don't get enough thank yous, here is 1000 more! I live in lakeside and will only be going to that Enterprise should i ever need a vehicle. 10/10 Jesse.     I'm going to write two reviews - one about the people working there, and one about the company…read moreitself. I would have given 5 starts for the people. I worked with RJ, Jesse, and one other man whose name I don't remember. They were all so pleasant and helpful. They were patient even when I was frustrated by the lack of suitable cars for rent. It's unfortunate that they are left with so few cars to rent but it's not their fault. On my third visit to swap cars yet again, he got a returned car out of the line and had it cleaned up for me, and thought to complete the paperwork while the car was prepared to get me on the road quicker. Just one suggestion for Jesse - when you say you will wait for me to arrive after hours, please be there. Thankfully there was the third man there to kindly help me even though he was busy and they were officially closed - you know who you are, sorry I can't remember your name. Unfortunately everything else about this experience was a disaster. My BMW 2 series was in the shop. On Wednesday I reserved a "small luxury sedan" on the Enterprise website. When I arrived on Thursday to pick it up, all they had were two SUVs. That is not small nor sedan. I needed something so I took the Audi. It was the most uncomfortable vehicle I've ever been in. I'm 5'0" so I need lots of seat adjustment and this vehicle didn't have it. The headrest leaned so far forward that I couldn't sit up straight to drive. I brought it back at end of day - all they had to put me in was a crappy old Toyota Camry - says it's 2025 but looked like 1999 inside. It stunk inside of cleaners - the smell got in my hair and I smelled it all day. Seat adjustments were manual and again I could not make it comfortable - it hurt my knees. Back again I go on Friday to trade it for a crappy Toyota Corolla 2024 very basic, again only manual seat adjustment, no USB ports - don't all cars post 1999 have USB ports? It smelled bad too but not as bad as the other one so I put odor absorbers in it. I added two seat cushions to make the seat comfortable enough to drive. I can reach the pedals just barely. I just can't go back again to see if there's something better. Someone there told me flat out that they NEVER have BMWs for rent like the website claims, and rarely have Mercedes sedans. I don't understand it - I'm willing to pay the higher rate so why can't they keep some nicer cars around? He said they mainly have SUVs because that's what most people want and cheap sedans for those who don't want to pay much. I called another Enterprise on Lytton and the man said they also only have SUVs. Maybe you must go to the airport to get a decent sedan? I'd be embarrassed to rent the two Toyotas I tried. Maybe if they started with a nicer vehicle it would hold up better. But they go cheap and the client suffers the consequences. BTW nothing in their on-hold message is accurate - "clean maintained vehicles," "give every customer a great experience," "variety of vehicles," "get the vehicle you need," "standard of care," and "PUT YOU FIRST." All gross exaggerations - the experience was miserable. I will probably try Hertz next time but I imagine they are just as bad. Turo has limited vehicles and IDK how long I will need a car - just praying they fix mine soon. I've always been grateful to drive a BMW - now I will absolutely worship that car, having experienced how bad some others can be.

I've rented from one specific branch for almost ten years with no issue and excellent customer service, so I don't consider this an Enterprise issue, its a location specific issue. It was a hassle to use a debit card instead of a credit card, which has never been an issue at other branches. Employees acted annoyed at us that we didn't have a credit card and made us do extra paperwork. Then we are told that our car is not available but we can take an SUV for an extra $100. I should have walked away right there but decided to choose the SUV and put aside the fact that I was paying to fix an issue from Enterprise's side. My spouse drove home in the rental so when I finally got in the SUV about an hour after leaving the branch, I realize it smells like marijuana and vapes. Clearly was not well cleaned. Upon return of the car we needed to extend a day but nobody answered phones at the branch so we weren't able to communicate this. They don't have after hours drop off (my other branch does, its amazing!) so we look at the sign and it says they are open 9-2pm the following day. We return at 1pm after our work shifts and gates are closed and an employee says they are closed. We point out that the hours on the sign say 2 and the employee shrugs and says, "yeah that sign is wrong," and pretty much implied we were SOL. We pushed a little and he reluctantly allowed us to do a return. At this point I have accepted that I will be charged for two additional days but I was not about to wait another two days to return my vehicle and pay even more. Now the agent starts acting overly nice which I find disrespectful. He pulls up the contract on his little ipad thing and then says, "oh they never updated your original contract." Astounding, since we were in the office for 45 minutes doing paperwork but apparently nobody bothered to note that they forced us into an upgrade. He corrected the contract and I have never been happier to leave the keys and I will never return to this location. Every employee acted annoyed at us for renting a car and apathetic to helping resolve any issues. Save yourself time and disrespect and go to the La Mesa branch. I should also add that when I shared this experience with family members they all had their own stories of issues with this branch.

Fun fact: Budget and Avis are basically cousins--same location, same staff--but somehow Budget be minding their business with better prices I thought having a business account was gonna make me feel VIP... nope. Prayers They kept texting me about an "upgrade," got me all excited... just to tell me it's based on availability. Baby, then why are we texting?? Still, they gave me a 2025 Jeep that was clean, comfy, and fully loaded--Bluetooth, SiriusXM, double sunroof, push start... okayyy I see you! Car ran smooth, no issues, easy return. No drama, just vibes. Moral of the story: Budget = bang for your buck. Book early and keep your expectations for "upgrades"... flexible and as always, you can thank me later

    I had an incredibly frustrating experience with Avis after booking my rental through Costco Travel…read more My pickup time was 5:00 PM on Wednesday 3/11, and I arrived at 5:04 PM--just four minutes later--only to find the location already closed, and when I showed up the next morning at 7:56 AM, I was told I was considered a "no show." Apparently, a four-minute delay was enough for them to disregard my reservation entirely. To make matters worse, the agent then tried to downgrade me to a much smaller vehicle because they didn't have my vehicle, as it never showed up...I asked why they didn't call and tell me that, and the guy just shrugged his shoulders. Several 7-passenger vehicles were sitting right there, but he repeatedly insisted that I "didn't pay for that," claimed they weren't available, and said they were "going to the airport." Instead of trying to help or find a reasonable solution, I got nothing but excuses. The customer service was shockingly bad. The agent was rude, dismissive, and extremely condescending, with a completely uncaring demeanor. It felt like my reservation, my time, and my business meant absolutely nothing; he took others' calls and sipped his coffee. No name tags; told me to call customer service to see if they had another vehicle; no manager's name. When I asked for the manager's name, he threw a card on the counter and said, " Call customer service. I think that was offshore to Donald Duck & CO What should have been a simple car pickup turned into a stressful and unnecessarily frustrating experience. I strongly recommend avoiding this Avis location. If you need a rental, do yourself a favor and go around the corner to Enterprise on Magnolia --where they actually seem happy to rent cars to customers
