Had to get a rental car through my insurance. Not a positive experience. Will be avoiding Hertz in the future. They do not pick up the phone and are incredibly understaffed. First, they did not have any cars available for 3 days. Then, they called me at 8AM after day 3, wondering when I wanted my car... I had told them 3 days prior that I wanted it as soon as possible. They let me know that they should have a car soon, and that they'd give me a call later that day. Noon rolls around and no call. I still need a car and I'm fed up. They take an hour lunch break at 12:30 PM, so I called them exactly at 1:30 PM. No answer. I have to call repeatedly throughout the day to talk to someone. Then finally I get a car. Except it wasn't the one I was promised... whatever, at least I have a car now. read more

Going to this location was a big mistake. I arrived right when it was supposed to open, but the staff didn't show up until 40 minutes later. Once they finally opened, I was told that my reserved vehicle was no longer available. The only options were upgrades, which required paying a significant extra amount. I asked why their lack of planning and poor availability should fall on me as the customer, especially with a confirmed reservation. I was told "it is what it is" -- either pay more for a different vehicle or get nothing. When I called customer service, the representative suggested I should have called ahead before showing up, which defeats the purpose of having a reservation in the first place. Thankfully, I went to another location and had a much better experience. I would strongly recommend avoiding this one. read more

We weren't the only ones; there was another customer waiting for his appointment too. I'm honestly surprised by the previous reviews because I received nothing but the best customer service from Jay. We were getting a rental through AAA because my husband's car was getting repaired. From the first phone call to turning the car in, Jay was always polite, courteous, and helpful. Even when we couldn't find him, he met us at the dealership's front door. I also forgot to call to let him know when we were bringing the car back and he was away from the office, I called the phone number, as the sign showed, and he came back right away. What a joke! Avoid this place as others have also shared. Only one person behind the desk working when I picked up and dropped off. The person took 10 minutes to retrieve a car from the back. The car I was provided had a defective seat belt tensioner and failing touch screen. This was a car with only 18000 miles and a 2023 MY. I pointed out the issues at drop off and the representative acted confused to both of my issues and made no adjustment to my contract amount for the inconvenience. Just say "no". Rushed to get there before they closed. Two other people waiting; big line of people for such a small place. The guy working told us that they had "no cars". I had to repeat his statement back as a question because I have never heard of a car rental company no having cars. He said "yeah, we don't really have many cars anymore". (I guess Hertz is going under soon??) The lady waiting in front of us said she was returning and we could get hers - but the guy working there said "it's a premium car" like 5 times. He did not even ask if we wanted a premium car. Maybe he judged us based on looks, and thinks we could not afford it?? I said maybe we could talk about getting the premium car, then he said he did not have the time because he was closing and did not have time to wash it. He said Hertz told him he cannot stay past closing so he could not help us. I confirmed with him, asking "you can't help us because you have no cars, AND because you can't work overtime?" He replied "yes, that is correct." He said I could call Hertz and complain. Inside Bob Stall Chevrolet is this tiny Hertz rental office. My car was being worked on so the dealership gave me a rental. First visit wasn't very good. 40 minutes waiting in the office with both staffers not in the office. When the women did come back to the office she did apologize and said a customer asked her to move all of her belongings from her car to a rental.. So I gave them the benefit of the doubt.. Second visit was much better. In and out in less than 10 minutes. The replacement car - 2019 Equinox. This was a "rental special" and because I own the Traverse (Basically a larger model of the Equinox) I could easily tell how cheap the quality of the Equinox is. The car, even at 6k miles, it smelled like a cheap Las Vegas smoking room that was rented by 10 wet dogs. Worse, while I'm in my rental car a flea jumped on me. Not sure how well Hertz cleans their vehicles but it needs to be after each rental. Renters treat these cars like crap and apparently the previous renter put their flea bag inside.. read more

Rented a mid-sized SUV from this location which was handed to me in very clean condition both inside and out. The tank was less than 1/2 full which wasn't great for a road-tripper and is difficult to maintain that level of gas when returning. No big deal though, just my experience. Tim is the branch manager who greeted us, handled our reservation, and worked quickly to get us out the door and into our car. When an issue arose regarding the rental, Tim gracefully and swiftly handled the situation in a very satisfactory way. I appreciate this quality in customer service. Joshua is a very friendly employee who I enjoyed the company of when returning the rental. I will be returning here for future rentals :-) read more

I was in an accident and I was hurting pretty bad. They only had one employee after I finally found the office, and she was no where to be found. Sat in the office for 30 minutes for her final return. My 30 day rental from Geico ended on a Sunday, but they have no drop boxes or no signs on were to bring the vehicle. So on 7/8/24 a Monday I called the Hertz closest to my office so I could rid myself of the vehicle. The gentleman on a recorded line from Laurel St/Airport Street stated since it was a Geico rental I could drop it off there for no charge. When I got there there was only one employee working and multiple customers. I had to get back to work so I gave him the keys he checked out the vehicle and said he would email me my receipt. Never was it sent, had to go online to get it, and they charged my card $64 and they still have my $50 deposit. The licensing fee was more than the rental. But the fact that I was told there would be no additional fee's and being over charged is upsetting. And why cannot Hertz afford more than one employee a location. Disputing charges with my bank and filing a complaint with Geico. Geico is a good company and I know they will make it right read more

This is a bit of a strange location in the back of a Chevrolet dealership. The people in the dealership weren't welcoming at all, but fortunately, when I made it to the little Hertz office, it was clean and well-lit, and the service reps were friendly. When I checked in, I found out that I had mistakenly made my reservation for the wrong day, and they didn't have the little economy car I had requested. I was very worried I wasn't going to be able to rent a car at all, but Fami, the gentleman who helped me, went out of his way to be helpful rearranging the dates and locating a suitable vehicle for me. He really went above and beyond. The car was beautiful and freshly washed, and I had no problems whatsoever. Joshua helped me check back in when I returned the car, and he was very nice as well. Ok I don't like to leave negative reviews. But I do want to share some information with whoever may be considering renting from here so you don't make the mistakes I did. First off, I've rented from Hertz too many times to remember. They are normally very flexible and have lots of options for you to make changes to your reservations, multiple locations to drop off your vehicle, etc. However this location does not have those traits. You are limited on returning only to this location, which is only open M-F from 8-5. In addition, this location only has one staff member who works hard to get people what they need, however she's only one person in charge of registration, retrieving the vehicles, checking cars in, etc. For that reason, be prepared to wait. But don't take it out on the staff member. It's not her fault. Because of the type of Hertz location this is, the Hertz hotline is useless. They say to contact the local Hertz instead. Again, un-Hertzlike. I rented a car for 5 days but only needed it for 2. I tried to return it before they closed shop for the day. But I could never get through to the Hertz dealership, I'm assuming because the one person working was unavailable. I ended up keeping it over the weekend and because of Labor Day, and additional day as well. I ended up losing $225 because of this poorly set up Hertz location. read more

This review is for the small Hertz office in the back of Bob Stall Chevrolet, but mostly about the company itself. The worst car rental experience I have ever had. I was having my Honda serviced at DCH Honda in Mission Valley and made a reservation here for a rental car. When I arrived via Lyft, there was no-one in the office for at least 20 minutes. When I called the main number and selected the option for the local branch the phone began to ring and finally the solo employee that ran the office showed up. One woman to answer the phone, process the paperwork, wash the vehicles and drive them up for check out. Eventually I rented the small SUV which I drove to my work about 20 miles down the freeway. I received word my car was finished early and although I had made the reservation for two days I came back and returned the vehicle the same day. I parked the car right in front of the front door to the dealership and filled out the after hours slip stating the time returned as well as the gas level and dropped the keys in a box right inside the office door. About six days later I get call from the local branch employee asking where the car is. I told her I had returned it the same day and had placed the keys in the box like the sign on the door said. She told me the box next to the door was for shredded paper and she didn't have access to it. The box did not have any indication this was what it was for. She told me she would take care of it and only charge me for one day. Over the next three days I got robo dialer calls from HERTZ telling me the car was seriously overdue. I reached out and spoke to Hertz corporate every day continuously telling them I had returned it and was told on the second call I would only be charged for one day. That night I got charged approx $1000 on my credit card. They had charged me for six days on a two day rental where I had returned the car the same day. I called Vehicle recovery back the next morning and they told me my case was closed and there was nothing they could do besides give me the number for billing where I could open up a dispute. I called and opened up a case and was told they would reach out. Three weeks later (today) I call them and I spoke with a somewhat rude agent named Gloria in El Salvador who began every sentence with "Let me tell you something..." who informed me that my case was already closed and I am liable for charges. I asked to speak with a supervisor and was told he was busy on another call and nothing could be done. Hertz has been in the news recently for allegedly reporting "late" rental cars as stolen and having customers arrested. There are several class action lawsuits open against them now. Don't use this location or this company including sister brands Dollar or Thrifty. Next time I will look into Turo, the car sharing app instead. TDLR: I got ripped off over over $800 and got repeatedly harassed about a car I had already returned. read more

I forgot the gentleman's name, but he was super helpful. I had to pick up family from the airport and the SUV I originally rented was not going to fit 6 luggages. Last minute he was able to upgrade me to a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban. He provided me with a discount. Also, he provided me with a 'pap talk' which gave me so much ease and comfort as I have never drove a big car and was terrified. Can't thank him enough! :) read more

Let me say up front that the saving grace (and the reason the review score isn't lower) was the grace, patience, and professionalism of the associate, Kelly. She was so helpful and friendly. I placed a reservation ahead of time and arrived at the Hertz at approximately 11:30AM. There were 2 parties ahead of me in line. I didn't leave the Hertz location until after 1PM. Multiple people came after me and were turned away because the Saturday hours only go until noon and the associate was not able to take new customers. The management for this Hertz location should definitely consider expanding their window to avoid turning away business. read more

They helped me out here quite a bit. Enterprise didn't have the car that I had reserved and after searching around on the Internet I found that Hertz did. I showed up at the pick up location and they did not have the car there but called around and found it had it brought in and detailed really quick while I waited. It was wonderful customer service and exactly what I needed after dealing with such a horrible experience with enterprise. The only downside was finding it. Car is in the shop, needed a rental. Looked up nearby car rental spots - this was the one closest to home. Didn't have the best ratings, so at first was thinking to go somewhere else instead. But the other option was further away and had just 0.5 stars more. So I thought "What could go wrong? I'll just go to the closest one. Most car rental places have crappy ratings anyway". Website says they close at 5:30pm, so I take an Uber there right after I get off work at 5. Get to the front of the Bob Stall Chevrolet building - an employee greets me, asks me if I'm looking for someone. Mention I'm looking for the Hertz rental. He walks me inside to where it's located and points to it. I thank him. I walk up to the door of the office, which is propped open, with the lights on. But no employees in sight. I awkwardly stand there like an idiot in the empty room. I notice that the hours posted on the door say they close at 5, even though Yelp and Hertz's website both say 5:30. Eventually I stepped outside the office and asked the nearby Chevrolet service rep if the Hertz office is still open. He says "Good question...someone else was waiting here earlier, and he ended up leaving...so I think they're closed". All other car rental places were within minutes of closing, so I'm stuck without a car for another day. Took an Uber straight home. What a waste of time and money. If you're thinking to come here for any reason, don't - they don't deserve your business. Listen to the other reviews on here, and go ANYWHERE else. read more

Terrible, insulting customer service. Just awful. Go elsewhere.The manager, Tim, is abrasive and insulting. (Joshua, however was very nice.) There was a problem with the car, I had to return to the rental site to have it fixed. They offered to cover the cost of gas. So I did not fill the tank when I returned it. They charged me for gas without telling me. When I called to inquire, I was told "Joshua isn't here and that's not our policy"- implied I was lying about what happened, and made zero effort to make it better. My experience with this company was not bad at all the only bad thing about it was the car was filthy and it had no gas in it so I had to return it with a quarter tank or be charged for gas and it's hard to do. I called the company they pick me up within like five or six minutes from where I was waiting and then took me and got the car they promised me. DISHONEST! They charge you for fees you didn't agree to! They try to sell you extra coverage, gas etc.. when you say no thanks, they persist! I rented a car back in February through my insurance and I paid the refueling fee... That's the only thing I agreed to, now almost 45 days later I get a charge for over $100! Avoid this location as the people that work there behave like they're getting commission for the "extras" they try to sell you. I reported this to State Farm insurance as well, since this company is listed on their website. My bank told me they've seen this before from Hertz when I filed a dispute. Had a car reservation through my company at 12. I arrived at 1:15 to pick up my car, I was running late because of work. They had already given it away and didn't have any other cars in the price bracket. I couldn't charge anymore because I was going through my company so I had to cancel my reservation and book another car. I'm appalled at the customer service. They were rude and blamed me for showing up late rather than trying to remedy the situation. I'll be sure to let my company that consists of 15000 people to not book from hertz again, they'll just waste your time. read more

The worst experience with Hertz I have ever had. Reserved a t6 suburban almost a whole month in advance. Got a call the day of saying they couldn't find my size car, was given a smaller vehicle then was told the manager was on vacation so they couldn't accommodate any adjustments or vouchers until he returned. The car was old and dirty and upon the manager returning had the person who picked up the phone tell me he was busy and there was nothing he could do... really I didn't know that how managers dealt with a complaint. They told me to come to the Hercules location and when I showed up they said I was supposed to go to the Alvarado location! This not only cost me time but also about $40 dollars for lyft rides... and it got worse.. when I arrived at the second location they threw the First Lady under the bus and she should have helped me and they said they didn't have anything for me either! My car was being worked on. So the transmission company took me to Hertz to get a rental for the weekend. Picked out my car and gave the girl the necessary information she needed from. So then I give her my debit card so she can enter it into the system. Did not know that my credit needed to be checked before they rented a car to me.
