For some reason, my 24 hour extension didn't go through. I pulled up my rental online, and it said I had one hour to return the car to Albany airport. Being in Staten Island, that wasn't going to happen. I tried calling customer service, and the overseas agent was no help whatsoever. I found this location on Google, came down, and I spoke to Tammy. I explained the situation, and she was very friendly and helpful. She listened to what I had to say, pulled up my rental, and a few magic key strokes later, I was back on the road with my 24 hour extension. I was really frustrated when I came in, but she went out of her way to make sure I got what I needed. I really appreciate her help. Hertz definitely needs more people like her. Thank you! read more

They called less than one hour before reservation time saying there were no cars available. Refused to provide any assistance in locating one at another location or connecting to central customer service before hanging up on me. I called central customer service and they said that there were plenty of vehicles available at the location and to call them back. I did so and the phone rang for 10 minutes with no answer. they put me into a Rent-A-Car that was dirty. Told me that they were reimburse me for the $20 as of this day, they haven't reimbursed me yet also, he forced me to get insurance that I didn't need for $15 a day and he said that's the only fee that it would cost me for the car because it was covered by the insurance after the insurance paid. I more than the insurance company tried to contact the manager multiple times no answer left messages. I rate this place a -10. Do not use this place it's a rip off and bad customer service. I travel for business and rent cars throughout the US. This Hertz local edition location is hands down the best I've visited. The staff is consistently personable, they display great customer service skills and go above and beyond to value my business. Even through times of employee turnover, the service level has always remained high so I commend management as well for hiring good people and providing good training. I've read some of the negative reviews and have witnessed some unreasonable customers and most have been credit or corporate policy related, neither of which the local edition team should be negatively reviewed about. The worst experience!!! I arrived at 9:45AM as I had a 10AM reservation for today. There was a line a of people waiting to pick up and return cars. The doors are locked and no one available to help us. I called Customer Service to inquire and they confirm this locations opens at 8AM. They suggested I wait as the employee could be on break. It is now 10:30AM still no employees and the line of angry customers is growing. I'm now late for my appointment and I had to spend $40 on a Lyft to take me to another rental company. read more

Where do I even start? I made a reservation online for a car for 15 days. Went to pick up said car. Got to Hertz and the entire staff was outside chatting. Went inside and was told, no cars. Not only did they not HAVE any cars but they had no idea when a car might be available. They insisted they had feverishly called me prior. No missed calls on my cell and the phone number was correct. This isn't the stone age, I hardly think I was called at all. My ride to the place had already left. So an hour to close I could "wait" for a car with no guarantees or leave. The entire back and forth was a painful ordeal. I was assured up and down they would call if/when a car came in and would receive priority. I left and figured I would call next morning. Because, well you know. Don't even get me started on the poor guy who came in after me, who had been directed to drive to this location from NJ only to be told, nope bud you are SOL, no car for you either. Next day I called 2 minutes after they opened. Miraculous how a car was returned in two minutes!!!! Obviously someone had returned a car before close the day before, they just couldn't be bothered to call me. I arrive at the counter. Where I waited as they took care of two folks who arrived well AFTER me. I waited about 45minutes, imagine how long a non priority rental would have taken? I figured I would receive some sort of upgrade for my inconvenience, at the very least the car would be clean, right? Nah, not at Hertz where they just don't give a shit about you. The car was filthy inside and out, no wiper fluid, and the tire pressure light is on and all the air caps were missing....every, single, one. In conclusion. Stay the fuck away from Hertz. They suck. I'm done with hertz too many poor experiences including one at this location, won't be using them anymore. Hertz has a discount program in place for people who work in Corp America but they're unable to take advantage of the perks unless they have their work ID at the time of the rental. This policy is extremely new, I've been renting with Hertz for years and not once have I ever had to show my work ID, why would that not be a prompt on the submitting screen for the rental? The debit card policy prompts right away even before choosing your location and that took years to put on the website and/or app, yet they don't have a system in place that lets people know about much of anything else. Total waste of people's time and money, too many competitors willing to provide better service to deal. Oh well, bye Hertz! read more

Great prices but POOR customer service. I cannot speak for other locations but can speak about this particular one. Today was the second time I had a reservation, and no cars were available when i went to pick up. The communication from the manager to employee is horrendous. They do absolutely nothing to accommodate their negligence. There is no point in calling corporate because they can care less about your issue unless you are one of their corporate accounts. There is no type of communication nor care from the employee/manager. Stay away and just go to Budget or Enterprise. You are better off paying more and actually having the car you reserved. This place does nothing but ruin your plans and aggravate you. Bring back Crystal who actually knew what she was doing as a manager. read more

My reservation J1813769194 was on October 25, 2019. I got a pickup from the ABB we were staying in which was nice as I am a vet and was given props by our driver a veteran with rolling thunder motorcycle group. We were in a hurry and failed to realize how filthy our rental was until we got in to go. The inside windshield had so much splatter on it that I decided to clean it myself as there was a cleaning station nearby. Only after I cleaned it I noticed the car was totally filthy as if rented out for weeks and just returned. We were only looking at the scratches that were pointed out to us. To prevent further delay we just took the car as is noting I will catch up to this issue later. Disappointed that Hertz the number one in car rentals rents out dirty cars. Noted this car was bigger than the small one I requested also. read more

Horrible!! Worst service. I rented a card and paid for it online. I called to confirm the day before I had to pick the car up to make sure I can use a debit card. I was ensured that it wouldn't be an issue. When I got to the place they told me debit cards are not allowed (even thought I paid using a debit card). After I asked for a refund they can't even do that I the store. The manager (if that's what you want to call him) did noting to fix the situation. Worst experience ever!!! Oh and before I forget they tried to tell me on the reservation I printed out that it said some locations don't take debit, after reading it, it does not say anything about some locations not taking debit, it says debit has different requirements. read more

Easier than I thought! After having my car hit hard by a driver that ran a red light and not having rental insurance...I looked for a cheap car rental deal on Hotwire.com. This was the only place came across that offered compact car for $27/day. I read the reviews about this Hertz location and all were one star/very bad. But considering the price, I gave it a go. Communication: Since the first time I called, then to extend the rental and finally when I dropped off the car the customer service was genuine and polite. Cars: I didn't look at all the selections but for a compact car and I got a brand new Ford Focus 2015, very clean with a full tank. Drove great. Payment: the payment was easy, all charged to the card. When I needed to extend the rental I simply called ahead of time and let them know. It was charged for each week and I was informed that if I bring it back earlier the payment returns to the card. However, I misheard the return date over the phone and returned the rental a few days too late. There is a fee of $37 for late returns. I explained to the manager that I even wrote the misheard date in my calendar and that I'm sorry for the late return but he said there was "nothing he could do about the late fee". Which kinda turns Great customer service to Good customer services. Considering how much out of pocket expenses I as going through while my car was in the shop for a month, I thought maybe he would waive it. Other than that, I'd still recommend this place. Went here after my car was hit with ice and needed to be in the shop for a few days. The staff at Hertz was so helpful with the insurance claim and they got me in a rental so quick! When I had a minor issue, the car I was given was small and not the best for the aftermath of the winter storm we were dealing with, they were quick to help and got me in a bigger car in no time. Very Professional staff. Cars delivered on time with no messing around. I'd say 15-20 minutes to pick up your car and leave. It's even faster when you sign up for Hertz rewards program. the worst service ever! i got a rental through hertz while my car was at the shop. i returned the car on oct 16,2019. (dropped it off at the car shop, who works closely with hertz, when i picked up my car). hertz never recorded it as returned. i kept getting calls from hertz, both the local si store and the 1-800 number. i eventually got a $90 ticket for running a read light on oct 31 at 11:59pm. but i already returned my car on oct 16!! soeone else was driving this car around in my name. it took me forever to clear this up. hertz on cary ave kept leaving me on hold for 15 minutes at a time, then would tell me the manager went on lunch. i even got the auto body shop involved to help me reach the manager. i told the 1-800 number all about it. finally the manager got back to me and said it was all cleared up. but i just got another ticket in the mail today. it's february 10, 2020. they didn't fix anything!!! what makes this situation even worse, is what if it was worse than running a read light? what if the person who was in that car - another renter, an employee, who knows--- what if they were involved in a hit and run?? what if someone potentially died in an accident. now i would be held responsible for that?? hertz needs to get their sh*t together. read more
