Third-rate rental services here. Books a car to you then tell you they don't have any when you arrive. Dirty office with completely ambivalent lone employee. Not open on weekends? WTH? Wish I could give it a zero, showed up at 8:00 am for pickup. No cars available after I prepaid month in advance. Worker said he would have to call his boss and thought they might be able to get vehicles from other locations in 2-3 hours maybe. He could not do refund would have to call customer service, over hour on the phone with them. We see in 7-10 days if it comes in. Would have picked it up day before but not open on Sundays.. If you fly to FL with your spouse and two children under the age of 2 and don't want the car rental that you prepaid for months ago, go to this Hertz dealer. I have been using Hertz for many years and have never had such a disgusting experience as in this Venice, Fl office. My job at Ford had required intensive travel and I can claim hundreds of car rentals over the 30 years of my career. Upon return, clerk objected vehicle's cleanliness and punished me with the $400 cleaning fee. There were no scratches, stains, paint spots, burns, oils and, or chemical spots or traces. We don't smoke or do drugs. The vehicle has been returned after three weeks of rental and does require normal vacuum cleaning and preparation before the next rental. There were a few bread crumbs, limited fiber from my wife's cashmere jacket and a few flower leaf. The clerk complained his Hertz office is short on people and he would need to clean the vehicle. The clerk refused to provide his manager's full contact information and provided me with the receipt where a charge of $400 was listed as an accepted charge. He declined to revise the receipt with the statement that the interior cleaning fee of $400.00 was the disputed charge. Hertz contract states that upon return car requires more than Hertz standard cleaning, Hertz may charge you an additional fee. The vehicle doesn't require more than vacuum cleaning. The clerk requested me to leave the office and threatened to call the police. I will be contacting Hertz head office on Monday to escalate the issue and will be exercising legal options to compensate my monetary and other damages. The guy, Mike, at the counter provides no customer service whatsoever We had an issue with the online booking a d from the second we walked in all he would say was " I have nothing to do with it " funny he's sitting at the desk in a hertz office wearing a hertz shirt but apparently he doesn't actually work for hertz because he has nothing todo with anything and can't do anything to help. Worst experience ever. The guy at the counter (who refused to give me his name) claimed to be the manager but was unable to reverse an overcharge that he admitted had been made BY HIM on the previous day. He then said he couldn't do it because it had been over 24 hours - it had not. He was also unable to get anyone on the phone at Hertz to help. He took my information and said he submitted a claim to Hertz for the overcharge, but we'll see... Then on my way out the door, he was cursing me and calling me names. Sad and pitiful. read more

Well I forgot to get gas in my rental car upon returning it...I handed the keys over and Greg said...did you remember to get gas...thank goodness he did, it would have cost me about $60...great service please consider these guys if you need a rental. read more

Had an issue with a rental car that needed an alignment, and they gave me a great car as a replacement. When I went to turn that one in and explained what happened, they gave me a voucher for my next rental. All with a smile and quick as lightening so we wouldn't miss our flight! read more

My wife and I were visiting her sister and husband in the Venice area. We decided to rent a car a drive north to see my brother and his wife. We used Hertz because of its reputation, numerous locations, and prices. No trouble picking up the car. No trouble with car. No trouble returning the car. Everything was fast, efficient, and the Hertz staff was pleasant and accommodating. Highly recommend this Hertz location to anyone. read more

I rented a Cadillac SUV (SRX) from the Sanford/Orlando Airport for my drive from the airport all the way down to Venice (south of Sarasota) to visit my family for a couple weeks.... I returned the car at the Venice location on 41 and thanked them.. left to head to my family's beach house. When I got to the house I suddenly realized that I'd be 'trapped' there, with no way to get around without asking a family member for a ride to each and everytime I wanted to go somewhere.... what was I thinking??! STRAIGHT BACK to the Venice location. elapsed time 20 mins. The car's GONE!! OH NO!!! My pristine white 2015 Cadillac SRX was gone!! ALREADY??!! dammit, I knew it was gonna get scooped up because this is vacation area. ....as I was starting to get mad at myself for not thinking things thru a bit more before returning the car I was informed they sent the car down to their "OTHER" Venice location. Hertz actually has THREE Venice, FL locations. pretty popular in the area I take it. 3 Hertz locations in one small beach town?? I ventured down to the "other" Venice location and whew. there it was, sitting in the parking lot, ready for me to Re-rent .. Elapsed time 45 mins. I met John Papa the rep behind the counter and what a super-nice guy. Very friendly, I told him my story about my long travels, and returning the car only to realize I really needed to keep it and John took great care of me.. He even went out and vacuumed it for me real quick and asked if I would like a quick wash before I left. How about that for service!!! All-in-all great location to rent from. Not like the Sanford Airport where I stood the counter for literally 40 mins before the person that was supposed to "be right back" according to the kiosk vendor right next to the counter. I had no other choice than to wait, weird, no sign.. gone for 40+ minutes, that's a pretty LONG time to just be missing from the rental counter at a busy airport. Oddly I was the only person trying to rent a car. literally no one else around, guess it was a slow-time when I was there. My rental experience in Sanford paled in comparison to the Venice location with Mr Papa. I'm a person who really appreciates great service and I always let the person know that I noticed the extra attention/work/effort they were providing me during my encounter with them. It's rare anymore to have someone in service industry go the extra mile. so John Papa, THANK YOU SIR!!! ..and Hertz, give him a raise.. Terrible. After reserving a one way rental several days previously. I was told one hour before they closed that that they did not have a car for us. Apparently it is common practice for branches to cancel one way reservations to keep their inventory up. A huge hassle for us, thanks to Bruce Russell, the branch manager. I would not rent a car from anyone else when in Venice, Florida. The Hertz in Venice has a staff that does everything to make sure the customer is satisfied. Also, prices are matched should you get a lower quote from another rental company. I've rented from them for 3 years in a row, for a few months at a time. They have been helpful, efficient, and courteous. read more
