Anytime I needed to renew I ALWAYS have them send an emailed updated receipt, now they are able to do. Then lying saying about gas not being full, now always take a pic of dash. The service here was friendly and I didn't have any issues with the car running but for some reason I couldn't get the trunk to close unless I slammed it about 8 times. The pricing, the staff and the counter were fine. My two complaints (other than the trunk)would be that the cars were outside with a good 150 yard walk which might not sound bad if it's nice outside, but on this day it was 87, raining and I had to lug 2 bags through that and I was a soaked mess by the time I got in the car. The other issue was the check in was a bit slow (took a good 15 minutes with 3 people ahead of me) and checking the car back in at 4am left me without a receipt until later that morning. They do have a night drop but be sure to have a pen as you won't find one laying around anywhere. Overall not bad, but just not great. Enjoy! read more

I wish I could give ZERO stars. They gave my rental car away an hour before we got there. Traveling with my 3 children (9,5,3 so needed those car seats) my wife and MIL. I had a 2 o'clock reservation but our flight did not get in until 4:30. When the guy at the front told me he had cancelled my reservation and they no longer had ANY cars, he did nothing to help resolve the issue. Didn't offer to call anyone or take any action to help us out......I thought that was the least he could do as, I mean, he did give my car away. WTF. Terrible customer service at this location. Got in late from Atlanta and called the Hertz customer service number to let them know. Landed at 11:00, went to the counter and there was one person in front of me so I went to go get my bag. When I got back the lights were off and the guy said they were closed. I told him that's why I called Hertz to let them know. Finally after some attitude the guy hands me a key to a Malibu without trying to upsell. I went through USAA to rent (4 Days) a vehicle in NC, the recommended/vetted vendor was HERTZ located in the Wilmington Airport, NC. I requested a large SUV 7+ capacity. I received a call 2 days prior to confirm that I was still renting the vehicle. I reminded the HERTZ rep that yes, I still required the SUV and to ensure that it needed to be a YUKON type vehicle. I was informed that they had many SUV vehicles available and not to worry. When I went to the HERTZ office located at the Wilmington Airport, the HERTZ rep handed me the keys to a Dodge Durango. Not what I was expecting, not even close to a YUKON. This I feel was a bait and switch, now stuck at the airport I had no choice but to pay $100 plus extra a day for what I had initially coordinated for. I was quoted $973.17 (this impacted my decision to rent from HERTZ) and ended up paying $1,475.50. (will never rent from HERTZ again) for the same amount of days. I will not use USAA either, since they recommended their vetted vendor, which they also make a profit from. Yet HERTZ corporate and USAA do nothing to stop/or right this corrupt business practice. I booked through Expedia (worst choice ever). However, I called the location prior to my trip to make sure everything was confirmed. Get there, 3000 miles away from home btw!!.. and was told at first that they needed a $500 deposit PER DAY plus the car fees. The lady, who was sweet & understanding, got it to where I just had to pay $500 deposit plus car fees. I was told something totally different when I called weeks ago. I was told I can pay debit card w/$200 deposit and I'd be fine. This was NOT the case! There's a huge miscommunication with employees and it's very frustrating. This isn't the first time I've had issues with Hertz. This is definitely the last though. You would think that the airport location would run a bit more smooth due to all the travelers, but it was absolutely frustrating! I've ended up paying more for my rental than an air bnb for the whole week! read more

The customer service at this location is terrible! I rented a large SUV 2 months prior to needing it. Ten days before the pick up day I discovered that I would need the XL (extended) version so I called directly to the Wilmington airport location. They assured me that I could get what I needed at the rate posted. When I picked it up they charged me an upgrade fee of $55/day! The 3 people behind the counter were more interested in talking to each other than helping me! I just took the paper work and keys and left. Ultimately after my trip, I called the Hertz headquarters customer service line and they reimbursed me 50% of the cost. The lady at the front desk clearly had no idea what she was doing and I inquired about the extra charges I received and she didn't know the answer to anything. After my debacle-ful attempt to buy a car from one of their car sales lots in Phoenix, I should've known better...but you figure a Hertz rental place 2,000+ miles away could get it right. Not even close. LONG STORY: In February, I scheduled a car for my May trip to Wilmington-Charleston. I specifically asked for small size, since I wanted something good on gas for having to drive to Charleston halfway through my trip. I got there to a parking lot full of vehicles of all types, and the guy said all they had available was a behemoth Nissan Pathfinder. I told him I was fine with going in a dirty car if that's all they had but he claimed EVERYTHING was rented out. I said okay, and asked if I could trade it on a day before I headed to CHS. He said "Yeah, it'll be no problem tomorrow." Tomorrow came, I called, and they were still "all booked up." Next day, couldn't get anyone on the phone at the local number, so I called corporate. I explained the situation, and the lady apologized and said to hold on while she got local on the line. She came back about 10 minutes later and said she talked with them about me specifically (having taken my conf # and all), and that they'd be waiting there for me and had smaller cars to trade me into. Without delay, I head back to ILM airport. Welp, the lady at the counter says she received no such call and that she still has no cars to trade. I had seen a Dodge Dart walking in that wasn't being rented to the patrons who were coming in off a recent flight, so I said "How about that?" The lady claimed it couldn't be rented. I asked to see a manager, and she got on the phone and said one will be in after 15 minutes. 30 minutes pass, during which two dismissive (and non-uniformed?) lot employees came in...but no manager. After having to wait in line behind more patrons, I finally got up front again and asked what the hell was going on. The lady said the manager called for a Yaris to be brought up and it'd be there in, again, 15 minutes. 20 minutes went by, and I again asked what's happening. Just then, one of the lot employees came in and said the Yaris was out there and ready. I said I wasn't interested in a Yaris, and wished she would have just given me the Dart. She then says "You really want the Dart? Okay, you can have it." Great. So, about an hour of my life and vacation wasted for nothing...and why in hell did the corporate lady lie about talking to someone at the location?! Doesn't end there, though; I guess(?) Hertz's policy doesn't require you to wait for them to go over how the vehicle looks and all of that like, say, Enterprise. I found that odd and potentially damning for me, so I had to waste time taking pictures of the keyed-up trunk hood, missing tire inflator cover, et cetera to protect myself. The Dart did fine for the entire trip, but more fun was had when dropping at Charleston. We dropped at 4:30 in the morning, so they weren't officially open. As I was going to drop the key in their drop box, an employee emerged and gave me a "gimme that" look without saying anything. Great. I gave him the key and he did ask how the car ran (their best attempt at customer service thus far), but then just mumbled something about how he'd get to it later and to check my email later in the day as he walked back out to the lot. I thought that wasn't good enough, so once again I had to go out to a Hertz lot and take pictures of my vehicle i.e. waste my time/life so I can prove it was left there if it comes to that. I suppose I should review Charleston's separately, but I'll just consider it a strike-out as they effed me over in 3 cities. Go with someone else. read more

With my AAA discount & coupon, it only costed us less then a $100 & that included a full tank of gas at $2.25 per gallon. We rented a 2013 Volkswagen Psaat. Their customer service is deplorable. Our tire went flat at 7:30 this morning. We were about an hour from the Hertz office. They offered no solution for us to reach our destination. All they cared about was recovering their vehicle. If my husband had not harangued them into providing transportation, we would be sitting on the side of the highway. The tow truck arrived about 9:50 and the transpiration arrived a couple of minutes later. We went straight to the office to get this taken care of and finished with them at 11:45. We cancelled the remainder of the reservation. Not only were we not refunded our money for being unable to use the vehicle, they want to charge us for the tire. To add insult to injury, the clerk at the rental counter was a condescending witch. To make matters even worse, the "customer relations" number on the paperwork doesn't take you to Hertz. It gets you tow third party vendor, because Hertz's time is too valuable to be bothered with customers. So far, on top of having to cancel our trip, we have been dealing with this for five and a half hours. I guess our time isn't valuable. We cannot call Hertz directly. We have to e-mail. We were offered a credit toward our next rental, but why on earth would we want to deal any more with these unfeeling nincompoops. read more

Hertz at Wilmington Airport gave me a car with a flat tire! 10 miles from the airport, 7:56PM: tire goes. Hertz rental closes at 8PM, so I drive an hour to my rental house with a flat, stopping for air re-fills along the way. Call Hertz first thing this AM: they're charging $89 to put on a spare, then requiring that I drive 1 hour back to the airport on the spare (50mph max speed so probably longer) to swap out for a different car. Oh, and the Hertz Agent at the Wilmington desk says: "Make sure you re-fill the tank before returning, or we'll charge you for the gas." WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE EVER. Not how I planned to spend Day 1 of precious vacation time with my kids. read more

Rented the "managers special" from this location, it was special alright...it should have been retired a long time ago! And apparently Hertz thinks the paying customer should have to run around town to do their required vehicle maintenance, when you're paying to use their vehicle! When I received the car, I notice the check oil light is on. I call when I arrive to my destination, since I was rented this crappy car for a week and a half, I need it to get me places I am told that I have to take the car to another Hertz location (easy 45 minutes from where I am), but first call to set up a different car to make sure they have one, apparently customer service isn't going to arrange this for me. I have to call various locations (which require 15-30 minutes on hold with every location that I called..aka hours trying to find a vehicle that isn't falling apart that I can trade out and noone has one for me within a 30 mile radius.). I give up on this...my other options is that I can take it to get the oil changed at a recommended location?!?! They say they have a good relationship with these certain places and I will be in and out within 30 minutes if I take it to a location to get the oil changed, "I'll be in and out no problem." The first time I make a reservation and specify it is for Hertz rental car, I get there at my appointment time... apparently can't get me in for a day and a half. So, I try another company suggested who also cannot get me in on the same day. So, I try again on a different day.. I finally get in..and the oil place has my rental vehicle for almost 3 hours because...Hertz denied the claim to authorize the oil change that I was told by then to go take care of at this place!! After over an hour on the phone with Hertz customer service that day, they authorize the oil change. Remind you they told me to go to this company to get the oil changed...but then denied to authorize it and acted like I hadn't been on the phone with them several times regarding this whole issue. The tires also has extremely low air pressure which caused it to pull really far to one side and of course crap gas mileage until I added air to the tires. I spent hours on the phone with customer service to try and get this resolved through numerous phone calls which all are like 45 minutes minimum since the individual locations don't do anything to help..they just tell you to call the Hertz line. You know what all this hassle for this lemon car got me...nothing. several wasted hours almost every day that I was home because my father had died running around dealing with a falling apart car that I'm hoping will safely get me to each location. That's all I needed in my life. And...my apology..is a coupon to return to rent a car from them again that must be used within a year. No refund, no money back, I was told I would receive a check by mail... It's a check that is only good to use at Hertz by me within one year! And doesn't even cover the full amount of this rental paid ...it covered like 1/4 of it. But again a non-transferable coupon that expires soon, not even a refund?!? Are you kidding me?! Do not rent from this location..they will give you a falling apart car, do nothing to help remedy the situation and not care about the stress and time they wasted of yours. read more
