Hoagie, curly fries
Brian G.

Cheese steaks are easily my favorite sandwich of all time, so I had high hopes for this place. They pile the meat HIGH! Which is great, you get a lot of beef in each bite of the sandwich. The meat is very thin and chopped up like a proper cheese steak and you get to choose what kind of cheese. I got a hoagie so it had lettuce tomato and mayo. The bun is soft and satisfying to bite into. Overall, I enjoyed how it tastes. The things I didn't like: curly fries did not come out hot. And the sandwich would be better with a bit more cheese.

The liberty. Highly recommend it. It's not too spicy. It's perfect.

Absolutely amazing and so delicious. The bread is so soft and the meat is so tender. I ordered the liberty..

8" Mexican Cheesesteak. (Husband's choice)

What a hidden gem! We heard about this place on Good Day Sacramento and drove from Plumas Lake just to give it a try! We were not disappointed, WOW the best Philly Cheesesteaks I have ever had! The roll was perfectly soft and warm!! The service was excellent, very invested in their customers, ensuring everything is perfect! Even the fries were spectacular! The only thing during lunch rush is there is limited seating, could benefit from putting in some booths. I got the 8" mushroom Philly cheesesteak and could only finish half of it! I was stuffed! Saving the other half for later!

12in Cheesesteak... well... 6in remaining.

Eagles vs Commanders on TNF. Cheesesteaks required and "He's from Philly" delivered. Literally. Decent steak sandwiches. Lots of meat and fixings. They use Amoroso rolls, fresh from Philly, so yep, they know what they're doing. While not the closest to Davis, well worth the wait for delivery or the trip to Woodland.

Lots of options for parking, big roomy place with ample seating. Cashier was friendly, but owner was super friendly. Got a cheesesteak, fries, and a drink. The cheesesteak was great - the bread was really soft and there was a good ratio of bread/meat/cheese. The fries were some of the best fries I've had in a long time. I'd probably try the cheesesteak fries next time. Love supporting small new places and this one was worth the visit.

Triple cheese Cheesesteak. Where's the cheese??

Growing up outside Philly, I was excited to give this place a try. I even told the gal behind the counter and asked if I was going to be disappointed but she assured me I wouldn't. We were here just after they opened so no line to contend with. I ordered the triple cheesesteak and my hubby had the chicken mushroom sandwich. You can tell he's not from Philly! We grabbed a spot at one of the bare bones metal table and chairs and waited a few minutes for our order. The decor leaves a lot to be desired. It is bare bones and cheap with fireworks playing on the overhead screen. Strange. The food arrived and I have to say that it was okay. This is a 3.5 star experience that I've rounded up as my last review of the year. Definitely not legit Philly cheesesteaks but pretty good. My cheesesteak was seriously lacking cheese, the meat had been ground down to a pulp, and the onions were way too big and undercooked. No one bothered to check. Pricing is a bit high. They are actually priced higher than either Pat's or Geno's in Philly. A sauce option was not available for the cheese curds but is available for purchase. Petty at the prices they are charging. I have a been there done that attitude here and will likely not return. Much like IYKYK, in this case if you don't know Philly cheesesteaks, they're probably going to be great for you. I wish them well!

Try to make these sandwiches photogenic... it's impossible. Thrilled cheese with added bell pepper. Already comes with Mayo and onion.

It is a full functioning grocery store so there weren't any tables or places for us to eat our sandwiches there. We ended up taking everything back to my house to eat it for lunch. The service was relatively fast and the ladies working at the deli counter were very friendly. I ordered a Reuben sandwich for my husband and the French dip sandwich for me. My dad ordered the Italian sandwich and we also ordered a side of pasta salad and a side of potato salad to share. When we got back to my house, we dug in. My husband thought the Reuben was decent; not the best he has ever had, but definitely not the worst. I thought my French dip was also just OK; even with the a jus broth to dip it in, it was a little tough to eat. The meat was a little thicker than I would have liked and nothing about it really wowed me. My dad thought the Italian sandwich was decent. All in all, these were pretty average deli sandwiches. Not something I'm sure I would drive all the way to Woodland or go out of my way to get, but if I were more local, worth a visit when a deli sandwich craving strikes.

I had a Mrs. pickles on Dutch crunch bread. It was weird. I got it to go and ate it about 10 minutes after it was prepared. It was oddly soggy. The bread was not crunchy. I'm wondering if it's a different bakery? Dutch crunch is always has a crunch! It's what I like. It was pretty flavorless. The produce was soggy. I think that's what made the entire sandwich seemed very soggy. It just seems like the entire sandwich had been made in advance, maybe hours before, and then served. I just don't get it. I also had macaroni salad. It was so-so. The cookie looked over done, but it was actually fine. I know this isn't typical for other locations so I'm hesitant to come back to this one. I hope others have better experiences! I mean, it's just a sandwich.

This spot takes classic hot dogs and burgers and levels them up with bold Mexican flavors, and it 100% works. My personal favorites are the birria and vampiros. The birria is rich, juicy, and packed with flavor, and the vampiros come crispy, cheesy, and loaded--easily some of the best bites on the menu. The vibe is casual and welcoming with a chill outdoor setup, and the staff keeps things friendly and fast. Pro tip: skip the line by ordering ahead online. They're usually pretty quick with the orders. Bottom line: Doggeros is a low-key gem serving creative, crave-worthy comfort food you'll keep coming back for.

I literally spend 4 digits on burgers every year, always ask for "lots of extra ketchup", and am never shorted, until today. The burger meat tasted below average and frozen. My family has been in the cattle ranching business since 1976, about 20 minutes from woodland. My siblings and I are third generation owners. Every time I asked the guy for more ketchup, he gave me two additional tiny packets, and I finally stopped asking bc he looked annoyed after I only had about 50% of my preferred amount of ketchup for a large burger and tons of thick fries. Moreover, they didn't even walk the order to me and ***gave me a bunch of sauce I didn't want or ask for*** WTF. Ordered the clásica burger with no mayo and they decided to drench it in guacamole which is not on the ingredients on the menu and I didn't want it. I didn't ask for a remake bc the guy had already dismissed my ketchup request. I ran out of Diet Coke (full to the top with ice) and didn't want to ask for more bc I didn't want to deal with the guy again. I spent a minute trying to wipe off the sloppy guac spread and I'm eating a very large salty meal while thirsty because I ran out of fountain Diet Coke halfway through and didn't want to talk to the guy again, to ask him for more. At any other burger place (and I'm literally a yelp elite member), they either 1) give plenty of ketchup the first time I ask, 2) they ask "is that enough ketchup?", or they 3) provide self service ketchup. Any of these options are perfectly acceptable. Virtually all restaurants do this because they understand that obsession over customer service optimizes for customer lifetime value, creates happy customers, and only costs them 12 cents. They've perhaps lost hundreds of future dollars from me because I spend an enormous amount eating out and am literally working one block away. I don't know if he owns it or just works there. This was on 7/26 at ~4PM. He would not be f****** bothered. I tipped him 20% too, up front, showing him that I expected at least reasonable service. And remember, they don't even walk the order to you. You walk up to the kitchen and order. You find your own seat, clean up after yourself, and place the tray in a designated area after you're done. I'm okay with all that, but not for a 20% up front tip with rude service. Won't be coming back even though it's profoundly convenient bc it's near a bunch of fantastic businesses I regularly frequent and enjoy. I hated my experience here. Could've had a great customer. Again, I work a block away. The fries were good though, for frozen fries. Well seasoned.

The parking lot on a mild Friday evening was also nearly empty, which is why, after the experience I had, I'm hoping this 5 star review catches someone's eye to drum up a little more business for this humble eatery. Judy's has been around since before I was born. When I was a kid I remember visiting a few times with my dad to get burgers and shakes (I seem to recall waiting for food on an old car seat? Maybe other people remember that). About 12 years ago, I worked in the office building just behind it, and would visit for lunch at least once a week--I remember the BLT being very good. This place has always been a dive, as far back as my memory goes. So don't expect a clinically clean interior. Everything is showing its age, including the massive menu covering the gamut: teriyaki, cheesesteaks, gyros, and of course the greasy spoon mainstays of burgers and hot dogs. After I got a new job, I didn't have much occasion to visit Judy's. They also don't exactly serve up the kind food you want to be eating every day. But I happened to find myself on the west side of town and was craving fish and chips, and could only think of one place to visit. I ordered online through their website, which was very easy, and they offer lots of options for customization. I really appreciated they had a 1-piece fish and chips, because, as I suspected, the portions are really large. I arrived about 5 min before my estimated pick-up time, and after a short wait the woman running the whole show came out and my food was already ready. She was so sweet, that on impulse I decided to get a shake as well. I wonder if the business changed management since I used to frequent a lot, because I don't remember this woman at all, but she was very kind. I discovered just how kind once I got home: not only did I have a generous portion of crispy fish and chips, but a bonus fried zucchini and what I think was a sweet potato plank. They really didn't have to do that, but I so appreciated it. Word to the wise: they leave you to salt your food, so if you are taking to go and don't have access to a salt shaker, perhaps borrow one from a vacant table to shake in your bag before you leave. As previously mentioned, the fish--which had something like a beer batter or tempura batter--was crunchy and delicious. The filet itself wasn't super thick, but the fish has a mild taste and was cooked perfectly. The fried veggies were also super good, and I LOVED their tartar sauce: so herbaceous. The fries are exactly the kind I like in this application: English style thick-cut chips. Predictably, the milkshake was also delicious (peanut butter and chocolate, so how could it not be?) So Judy's isn't much to look at from the outside, but it has real heart. Even though it isn't my style of food and is a bit out of the way for me, I want to continue supporting this business. They deserve it, and you deserve some delicious fish and chips.
