First time at the Richmond location - plenty of parking - and noticed some bus stops nearby - so should be transit friendly. Service was very quick for a Sunday evening - team was friendly and knowledgeable - and was ready to make great suggestions. Medium Rare is the way to go for steaks for me - but this one was very slightly over for me - but it was still delicious - double baked was crisp - Got to get that birthday cake slice - can't go wrong with it -

We came in on a weeknight at 6pm with no reso and could NOT believe the wait was an hour! I guess the Keg is alive and well! Once seated the service was friendly and attentive. The wedge salad was great! Perfect amount of fixings to go with crisp, fresh lettuce. The medium rare prime rib was a bit of a let down. The steak itself is quite thin. I would've preferred a thicker cut with the same volume. I got twice baked potato on the side and the skin was chewy instead of crispy. Not sure how they are still so busy!

When craving for meat, The Keg is one of our go to places. The staff are very good at recommendations and our steaks are always cooked to the way we ordered.

I really enjoy the food at The Keg. I've been here many times and the steak is delicious. I got a filet mignon with mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies. Everything was yummy and I always enjoyed the complimentary bread as well. We also got a free dessert as we were celebrating a special occasion. Customer service is always great at The Keg. They make sure you feel attended to :)

Yum. Prime rib. Twice baked potato and fried onions.

4/5 Food 2/5 Service This restaurant needs a facelift. I like the food. However the 2nd waitress who serviced us was passive aggressive on her duties manning our table. Not cool.

So nice to return to this location after a few years absence. Same courteous services e. Same ambiance. For the first time we ordered the side rib. While pricey it was all worth it. A medium rare piece made it tender and juicy. Our waiter was outstanding and made all the difference.

Review Template === 1. VERDICT/VALUE 3.5 stars: it's been a long time since I went to a Keg in Canada and while it's good, it's potentially a combination of COVID (impacting staffing/service and prices) and how other restaurants have caught up with portion size and quality which in 2022, may push The Keg lower down your list. === 2. FOOD This is a late / delayed review of their Dine Out Vancouver experience, for which $55 gets you a starter, entree, and dessert. - The Shrimp Cocktail includes three large shrimp and marinara sauce - yum! - The Prime Rib (14oz) was a little less than the requested medium rare, but good. The accompanying vegetables and cauliflower mash ($4 extra) made everything feel healthier :) - The Mushroom & Truffle 12oz New York was done definitely more than medium rare, but the accompany twice-baked potato was good. - The Billy Miner Pie (mocha ice cream on chocolate crust with caramel/fudge and shaved almonds on top) is a Keg signature dessert and didn't disappoint :) The Kids Meal comes with a choice of an entree, side, drink and ice cream. It's would typically be a good value. - Milk: can't go wrong here. - Mini Keg Burger ($12): ouch! Super small which is fine, and it comes with lettuce, tomato, and pickle on the side (thoughtfully for picky little ones I assume) the patty was rock hard (more than well done?) and blackened all around as you can see in the picture. We couldn't eat much of it. - The fries are nothing to write home about. - The single scoop of ice cream is great if you're a toddler (I don't need to give him more sugar than he needs ;) - vanilla was the only flavour available on that day. === 3. SERVICE Our server was friendly enough, but he was new and so it was a challenge getting things ordered (he needed assistance) and it was busy with Dine Out Week, which meant he was stretched beyond what he was comfortable with at the time. I assume COVID impacted staffing: likely new staff in the front of the house and in the kitchen, as the meats were consistently incorrect all around. === 4. ENVIRONMENT In the decade that passed since I visited The Keg in Canada, I can happily report it seems to have seen a remodel of sorts - perhaps a little brighter, cleaner lines. The parking lot perhaps was paved (?) instead of being what I recall as a gravel lot. Wheelchairs and baby strollers would work well enough inside.

    Rib Steak

Was here last night because of some gift cards I received last Christmas. Ambiance was ok. Restaurant was packed at 6:00pm but still with measures for CoVid safety. Staff were friendly and nice. Ordered the Rib Steak medium and am satisfied with how it's grilled. My friend made a mistake of ordering Prime Rib and it was a disappointment. The Prime Rib is a slice of beef cut from a roast and it was bland. A medium rare was too rare and hard to chew. So don't make that mistake of ordering prime rib!

So where do I start this is long winded so bare with me ? I've been a patron of the keg since a teenager, this was my pops go to spot for a special occasion so I definitely have an sentimental appreciation for the keg and the personal attachment that goes along with it. So celebrating my 46th birthday here was special and I was looking forward to this for a long time. Anyways my wife put everything together and she has on occasion thrown in a surprise guest here and there so I was thinking something might be going on but she was really good at covering her tracks this time so I was totally oblivious to anything going on. We get to the restaurant for our reservation and this started veering of course almost immediately. The group that is sitting at our table(s) has been seated since 4ish ( it's now 7 which what our reservation was for and they are still seated with no signs of leaving) I've worked in the restaurant industry before things happen so we wait. It's now 730 the group is still seated and the host is like "I'm sorry the party at your table doesn't seem to want to leave and we may have to relocate you to a booth. Now at this time I'm good I only thought it was 3 of us but my wife on the other hand had other plans, now she talked to this guy before hand and let him know there was some surprise guests and this guy still dropped the ball 5x and ruined the surprise. Now I can only play dumb only so much before it's ridiculously obvious what's going on and well he hit that mark. Once he realized what he did ( he had that fear in a headlight look on his face) he just walks off. Fast forward to our meals, I find that since the sale of the keg the quality standards have been on a decline and it doesn't seem to be having any upswing momentum. The protein ( prime rib) we had was meh the vegetables were all overcooked like by a lot soggy and limp green beans the beets were nothing to write home about. The deserts was nothing spectacular and The drinks were good but their selection in the bar does not match the menu. Like to be all honest the keg has slide in quality to the point we're it's standing shoulder to shoulder with the likes of earls, milestones and it's looking like the cactus club is taking over for the price your paying at the keg you're probably better of shopping around and visit their competitor(s) I was definitely underwhelmed by this experience. . .

This is definitely my least favourite Keg location. We just came back from dinner and wasn't wowed by the food nor the service. Foodwise - I felt the locations in downtown tasted 10 times better. Even the presentations are on point. Inside - Mostly booth seats and they blocked off some sections of the restaurant so not as comfy as I expected. Service - Our server was not warm at all. She catered to our needs but that was it. I mentioned that it's my son's birthday and asked if they can bring out the Billy Miner Pie with a candle on top. She said that was not allowed since it's covid (which is understandable). I thought she would at least say "Well happy birthday" but she didn't even bother. We didn't even get a "Happy Birthday" written on the plate. I know it's not expected but that would be a nice gesture. Most likely not returning to this location.

Very tasty steak, nice service, and great environment. The steak was a medium well done, but had excellent texture. The fries are well cooked, crisp and just how i wanted it! The drink was delicious, tasted like legitimate pineapple, so i do recommend this restaurant

    Sirloin with lobster

Being in Richmond for almost all my life of course The Keg is not a new place that I have explored, but to be honest, because it's a place that you always visit you forget to review due to lack of excitement but they definitely is a good spot. In this review, I am going to focus on my visit post Covid. Let me start by saying all staff have their masks on properly which is great, I do not have a chance to see any table clean up so I cannot commend on sanitation which I assume is good :) Upon entering, it is still the same building and set up, no improvement or renovation done during the pandemic. I was greeted right away by friendly staff and lucky enough to be seated right away by the bar. We started by going to washroom to wash our hands and I say the washroom definitely needed attention, updating and cleaning both. Upon seated, we were greeted by server quickly, who also double duty as the bartender. He was friendly and attentive and the chairs were relatively comfortable, not as good as dinner chair but not bad ( cushion on the softer side). Since our server is also the bartender, he does get busy, but he have done an absolutely fantastic job at keeping up with his work and us. We order prime rib, sirloin with lobster and a kids sirloin, all middle rare. Prime Rib is a bit disappointing, although it is juicy, it is not tender, fat is not nicely marbled and you can see the tendon that is hard to chew. However, the double baked potato continue to shine with its texture and flavor but it is a little over baked as you can see in photo. Sirloin with lobster was good, not great. Steak is flavorful, again not tender but still juicy. Love the garlic potato, thick and chunky which I like. and roasted peppers was delicious with great balance of oil, salt and the sweetness from pepper itself. Lobster is alright, I say it's definitely lacking freshness or flavor which even butter can't save. Kids sirloin is in the same situation as above so nothing to note but it was served with fries, and they were rather generous with the side. Meanwhile, the kitchen must've made a mistake and brought a full sized ice cream order instead of kids size so that was a sweet surprise. Overall still a great place to eat, losing 1 star due to steak's texture and washroom cleanliness.

    Prime rib classic $42.

Throughout our visit, the waitress directed almost all of her attention to my husband. She explained everything to him in detail while barely acknowledging me. I was left to read the menu and figure out what to order on my own. I also noticed the same behavior at other tables. She spoke primarily to the men while largely ignoring the women. Even after I placed the entire order for our table, she continued checking only with my husband about everything we needed. When it came to drinks, after the two men had placed their orders, she didn't even ask me if I wanted anything before walking away, as if I were invisible. At the end of the meal, after I paid the bill, she turned to my husband, smiled only at him, and completely ignored me. It was extremely impolite and made me feel disrespected. The food was good, but the service was the worst part of the experience. Based on how I was treated, it felt discriminatory. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and ensures that every customer is treated with equal respect.

And while there are no shortage of seafood restaurants serving fresh crab on the Steveston waterfront, we wanted to give The Crab King a fair shake. I'm so glad that we did! My wife ordered a King Crab for herself which, after tearing it literally limb-from-limb, eventually declared it to be tied for her favorite boiled crab dish anywhere! High praise coming from such a consummate crustacean connoisseur! For myself and our son, an order of fish and chips, and the grilled chicken sandwich rounded out our order, both of which were crispy, tasty and delicious. Regarding the fish and chips, they appeared to be tempura-battered, and I'm still not 100% sure what type of fish it was. It may have been cod, but it seemed more like catfish, but either way, it was tender, juicy, flaky and delicious. No complaints here! More than anything, though, the employees here went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. Our toddler son, who is normally extremely well-behaved in restaurants, was having a bit of a fuss here and there. Without prompting, the servers brought us a little radio to play music for him, as well as a couple of toys to play with, one of them being a wind-up truck that they gave to him to take home! He loved it there, and still plays with it at home! They even played peek-a-boo with him from behind the counter, soliciting laughs and giggles, for the better part of 15 minutes! That sort of customer service is nearly impossible to find, and should be praised and cherished wherever it is found! Whatever the past may have held for this restaurant, the Crab King is an entirely new animal now, serving up fresh seafood by uncommonly wonderful employees, in a fantastic floating location. They even offer to cook spot prawns and other seafood purchased from the boats docked at the nearby waterfront marketplace, for a modest fee. With all these things going for it, there's no doubt who wears the crown of Crab King in Steveston Harbor!

Maybe a bit light on the meat, as it was buried by the arugula and pickled shallots, so seemed unbalanced, but overall tasted great - Seafood Linguini: Mixed. Linguini was good. Scallops were really good and tender. Mussels were tiny. Red snapper was tough and dry. As a dish, it was OK, but could be better. Seafood is seasonal, so I'd think they would be better off rotating what seafood is used. - LuLu Island: OK. Same issue as the linguine. Prawns were fine. Mussels tiny. Red snapper wasn't enjoyable. And we were already second in line. Celebrating a birthday, we had cold jellyfish starter, lobster fried e-fu mein, braised pomelo skin with seafood, and beef fried kai lan. The lobster was perfectly cooked. Even slight over-cooking can make the lobster meat tough. However, every piece was perfectly cooked. Including the large claws. Cooked with ginger and scallions, the lobster gravy coated each strand of e-fu noodles to umami yumminess. The braised pomelo skin was a special seasonal dish. I have not had this dish in many decades, and when I saw this in the special seasonal menu, I had to get it. The bittersweet braised pomelo skin complemented perfectly the fresh seafood, and topped a bed of Chinese spinach. It was the first time for the other members of my family and they literally sucked it all down. The beef with kai lan was another standout. Beef slices were tender and delicious and that perfectly complemented the well seared gai lan - great evidence of wok hei. Service is exemplary. Not just for a Chinese restaurant, but for any restaurant. The servers are constantly on the alert, and Everytime they see a plate filled with lobster shells, they would whip it away and replace it with a clean plate.
