We came here to celebrate a Birthday and looked forward to a good meal out, as one expects with the Keg. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with both the food and the service. First off, the bread isn't as good as usual. It was fine but nothing great and barely Luke warm. We always get asked if we want more bread but not on our visit here - a first. Our server was so busy and there was no supporting staff except to deliver the food from the kitchen. We didn't get asked if we wanted more bread, took 20 minutes to get our order in, our calamari appetizer never arrived and just our mains but by the time we could find our server we were halfway through our mains despite that I am a slow eater. The server did apologize and said he would bring the calamari and take it off the bill, which was nice. Calamari came in 10 minutes but portion looked small. When the server came by next he mentioned that it came quickly because he stole the order from another table - what?!? Am glad the calamari was free because it didn't taste great and portion was small. My boyfriend wasn't asked if he wanted another beer until we were at the end of the meal and when I asked for a water refill it took another 10 minutes. It took us over 2 hours to eat and not because I was slow eater but due to the slow service. We were looking forward to our Billy Miner pie but the server never mentioned it and as it took so long to find him we gave up on dessert and opted to go for dessert somewhere else. This must be a franchise location and not sure why it's so busy as service and food easily the worst Keg location I've ever been to and I have to most locations in the Lower Mainland plus Kelowna. Will definitely stick to the Vancouver and Burnaby locations from here on out. The bigger disappointment was that I wrote to the Keg to provide feedback and never heard back. This was not a good experience. We came to celebrate a birthday and had a table of 5. Our bill was $400. Although the service is great, the kitchen was off. We emailed the restaurant after to discuss the experience and had no response. We ordered appies and drinks to start. The Caesar salad is amazing and highly recommend. The crab cakes and calamari were also delicious. 2 people got prime rib, one steak, and one filet mignon. Plus a bunch of sides, like the brussels, Mac and cheese, and broccoli gratin. The broccoli gratin was dried burnt broccoli with a sprinkle of parm. The Mac and cheese was bland. The food came out except for 1 prime rib. After 10 minutes, the server came to apologize and inform us that they were out of prime rib. He offered the prime rib sandwich on rush, which we appreciated. It came out quickly enough but was not good. There was too much fat to meat ration. We would have sent back a few things but the table beside us sent back their food multiple times and we were ready to go. Not sure what happened but it was an off day. We came in on a weeknight at 6pm with no reso and could NOT believe the wait was an hour! I guess the Keg is alive and well! Once seated the service was friendly and attentive. The wedge salad was great! Perfect amount of fixings to go with crisp, fresh lettuce. The medium rare prime rib was a bit of a let down. The steak itself is quite thin. Was here last night because of some gift cards I received last Christmas. Ambiance was ok. Restaurant was packed at 6:00pm but still with measures for CoVid safety. Staff were friendly and nice. Ordered the Rib Steak medium and am satisfied with how it's grilled. My friend made a mistake of ordering Prime Rib and it was a disappointment. The group that is sitting at our table(s) has been seated since 4ish ( it's now 7 which what our reservation was for and they are still seated with no signs of leaving) I've worked in the restaurant industry before things happen so we wait. It's now 730 the group is still seated and the host is like "I'm sorry the party at your table doesn't seem to want to leave and we may have to relocate you to a booth. Now at this time I'm good I only thought it was 3 of us but my wife on the other hand had other plans, now she talked to this guy before hand and let him know there was some surprise guests and this guy still dropped the ball 5x and ruined the surprise. Now I can only play dumb only so much before it's ridiculously obvious what's going on and well he hit that mark. Once he realized what he did ( he had that fear in a headlight look on his face) he just walks off. Fast forward to our meals, I find that since the sale of the keg the quality standards have been on a decline and it doesn't seem to be having any upswing momentum. This is definitely my least favourite Keg location. We just came back from dinner and wasn't wowed by the food nor the service. Foodwise - I felt the locations in downtown tasted 10 times better. Even the presentations are on point. Inside - Mostly booth seats and they blocked off some sections of the restaurant so not as comfy as I expected. Service - Our server was not warm at all. She catered to our needs but that was it. I mentioned that it's my son's birthday and asked if they can bring out the Billy Miner Pie with a candle on top. She said that was not allowed since it's covid (which is understandable). I thought she would at least say "Well happy birthday" but she didn't even bother. Massively disorganized. We made a reservation for 8pm, showed up at 7:55pm and there must have been 20 people all standing around the host stand and outside. They said it would be about 20 minutes and to just stand off to the side. About 30 mins later one of the hosts saw we were still waiting and asked our name, looked it up and said we were next. Then he went to go do something and another couple who arrived very shortly after us was told by the other host they would be next. The host we spoke to returned and finally sat us 55 minutes after arriving for our reservation, which was absolutely crazy and I have no idea why we actually waited that long. Once we sat, the guy from the party of two from just after us came around the corner to see where we sat which made us feel a bit uncomfortable because it felt confrontational. He seemed very mad at the host and we thought perhaps us if he perceived we somehow jumped the line in front of them. Service was very abrupt, not particularly friendly and by this time it's almost 9 so the restaurant has a ton of empty tables but nobody cleaning them so people at the front continued to wait. At one point someone said there was an issue with their reservation system (you think? ) but other than from the host, no apology. Our food was fine, but the experience was unacceptable. Would caution against going here. **Update, as requested I did provide the info to the restaurant for follow up over 2 weeks ago to zero response. Being in Richmond for almost all my life of course The Keg is not a new place that I have explored, but to be honest, because it's a place that you always visit you forget to review due to lack of excitement but they definitely is a good spot. In this review, I am going to focus on my visit post Covid. Let me start by saying all staff have their masks on properly which is great, I do not have a chance to see any table clean up so I cannot commend on sanitation which I assume is good :) Upon entering, it is still the same building and set up, no improvement or renovation done during the pandemic. I was greeted right away by friendly staff and lucky enough to be seated right away by the bar. We started by going to washroom to wash our hands and I say the washroom definitely needed attention, updating and cleaning both. Upon seated, we were greeted by server quickly, who also double duty as the bartender. He was friendly and attentive and the chairs were relatively comfortable, not as good as dinner chair but not bad ( cushion on the softer side). Since our server is also the bartender, he does get busy, but he have done an absolutely fantastic job at keeping up with his work and us. We order prime rib, sirloin with lobster and a kids sirloin, all middle rare. Prime Rib is a bit disappointing, although it is juicy, it is not tender, fat is not nicely marbled and you can see the tendon that is hard to chew. However, the double baked potato continue to shine with its texture and flavor but it is a little over baked as you can see in photo. Sirloin with lobster was good, not great. Steak is flavorful, again not tender but still juicy. Love the garlic potato, thick and chunky which I like. and roasted peppers was delicious with great balance of oil, salt and the sweetness from pepper itself. Lobster is alright, I say it's definitely lacking freshness or flavor which even butter can't save. Kids sirloin is in the same situation as above so nothing to note but it was served with fries, and they were rather generous with the side. Meanwhile, the kitchen must've made a mistake and brought a full sized ice cream order instead of kids size so that was a sweet surprise. Overall still a great place to eat, losing 1 star due to steak's texture and washroom cleanliness. read more

We came in during Dine Out a little later in the evening when the restaurant was full but not super busy. My mom was craving a prime rib, unfortunately it had already sold out. The rest of us opted for steaks from the regular menu and a couple appetizers to share. The tuna tartare was on point and tasty as usual. I'm not big on the chips (preference rather than anything wrong with them) served with the tuna tartare but my group enjoyed it. We also ordered the fried cauliflower - very very salty. Our steaks were cooked to the correct temperature, albeit extremely tough. We were either cutting into tendons or against the grains the entire time. We relayed this on to our server who immediately grabbed the manager for us. She was outstanding and offered multiple solutions for the poor dining experience. We forgot to catch her name but wanted to say "thank you" again for the way she handled everything. My group was very happy in particular commenting on how rare restaurants display this level of hospitality that used to be industry standard. The prime rib is the best entree to choose here. The cocktails like the Old Fashioned is standard. Same as their Manhattan. We enjoyed the deep fried calamari. Dessert was their chocolate cake. Just simply gave the beeper disc and took us to our table. Not even the standard your server will be right with you... The restaurant was packed and obviously way overbooked, because there were at least 30 people waiting to be seated. Luckily the wait wasn't too bad, so we were seated only 15 minutes of our 8:45pm reservation. Apparently they had over 500 people, on a night that's usually 300. Our server came by within 10 minutes and took our drink orders. She was great. It was very visible that she had had a very busy day but she was very friendly and attentive. We got our food in good time and our plates were already cleared right away. I got a mojito that was mostly soda. My boyfriend got a dark and stormy which was just alright. We both got the caesar salad starter, which was standard. Good portion. We both got the top sirloin cooked rare. Good portion at 12oz. My baked potato was good. Veggies were good. They were very accomodating with providing double portion of veggies for my boyfriend because he didn't want potato. I got the billy miner pie for dessert, which was huge. Not a filet but I knew that it was not the same cut. Twice baked potato was tasty and hot. I can't get enough of their ranch dressing and salad. The salad plates are chilled and the salad is nice and crisp. The Ranch dressing is house made I was told. Fresh dill and seasonings make it a great pallet prep for the steak. I like this location due to it's location from my work and home. Parking is never really a problem. But they get busy during the holidays. Here's my play of the day. I start with Calamari, Escargot, Tuna Tartare, and Lobster Tacos (Summer Lobsterfest). All really good. As for the protein, Keg Size Prime Rib (24 oz) with Garlic Mashed Potatoes. This is not on the menu, but you can request for it and they'd be happy to give you a nice, thick 24 oz cut. I always ask for as rare as they can give me (it's usually medium rare most of the time). It's juicy, melt in your mouth, tender deliciousness. My other protein fav is the Bone-In Rib Steak with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Veg (I usually ask for Onion Fritters with this meal). Cooked to Chicago style rare (black and blue). Nice charring on the outside, and juicy goodness inside. The seasoning is well balanced throughout. I usually switch between this and the Prime Rib. Doris and I ordered the 3 course meal at the Keg while Lolita and her son ordered a la carte. Their food came out cheaper because they didn't have the appetizer and dessert while Doris and I had them. The steaks in the Surf and Turf weren't tender steak though it was cooked medium rare. The steak was a little bit chewy. I was surprised that for a restaurant famous for their steaks was serving chewy and not tender steaks. It was disappointing. However, the lobster tail was so delicious and sweet. I told my friends I won't mind going back and order the double lobster tails. The Cheese Cake was too sweet but the ice cream cake was delicious. It's been a long time since any of us have been to this particular Keg. Great improvement from what we remembered. The service was quick and attentive. Escargot was steaming hot with a hint of curry in the sauce. Not what we prefer but still delicious with the brioche bun. My prime rib was cooked a little more than rare but that's what I expected so it was perfect for me. Well flavoured especially with the au jus and spicy fresh horseradish. Can't go wrong finishing with a loaded baked potato! The only bad item was the thin onion rings?? Not even sure if thats what they are called but they were soggy and tasted like oil. We didn't complain cause we didn't want them anyway but definitely a sign our food may have been left on the window for a touch too long. My sister's NewYork striploin was huge! You know what, I'm a bit disappointed. Not with the food - but with the service. We came in on a Friday night for my mom's 50th birthday and were a bit disappointed with how we were treated. We came in a bit earlier for our reservation and they were able to accommodate us, which was a great start. Once we were sat, it took about 20 minutes for someone to greet us or bring waters, even after we made eye contact with a few different waiters. Finally I reached out to a passing waiter and asked if we could have some water and he said "oh, of course let me grab your server" and I politely told him that we didn't know who our server was because they hadn't come by yet. Our server came by, apologized for keeping us waiting and took our drink orders. Sauvignon blanc for me, mojito for dad, mocktail for mom, and agua for my brother. We also ordered a few appetizers to start: baked brie board and calamari. Our server brought out the wrong wine for me, a red instead of a white. Wine is wine though and I'll happily drink any wine put in front of me, so I drank it anyway. On to our mains: my whole family got an assortment of steaks and since I don't eat red meat, I got the pistachio crusted salmon with a twice baked potato. Yum yum yum. One thing The Keg has always been consistent with is their food, and this experience was no different. We had told our server at the beginning of the dinner that it was my mom's birthday and usually they serve the Billy Miner Pie for birthdays. But after our server took our plates away, he immediately brought the check not even asking if we wanted dessert or offering the birthday treat. What made it awkward was that another table he was serving at the same time received their birthday Billy Miner Pie and they were singing happy birthday. My dad asked about the pie and our server responded in a very rude way, "Oh well jeez, with everything else you ordered, I didn't think you'd still want it!".... Um, what? 1) That's just rude to say. 2) I've worked in the restaurant industry for years and it's always common courtesy to ask. I was kind of taken aback by his answer and said no, we don't want it anymore. After we paid, our server didn't say a single word to us and even as we were leaving I said "Goodbye" to him and he just looked at me and didn't say anything back. Maybe we were unlucky and caught our server on a bad day. It was just unfortunate because what should've been a fun birthday dinner was dampened by poor customer service. I do love the Keg (again for their consistent food quality) but after this experience it makes me hesitant to go back to this location. i am a bonafide long time fan of the keg! ive tried at least 3 of their locations 2x in my life time....including the new one on alberni thats on the 2nd level with a nice water fountain to welcome you in, as well as the one in whistler. each and every time, ive always had an excellent experience. for my sons birthday, he said he wanted steak dinner from the keg! since there is one close by to us, i booked a reservation with the keg in richmond bc. we were promptly seated. parking was difficult as the lot was full. i already knew this night would be off when we met our server. she never introduced herself. just said.."im here to take your order! what stood out was her hair was so disheveled. it looked like it hadn't been washed in days and was oily. anyhow, we ordered sirloin oscar with shrimp. a kids sirloin , a teriyaki sirloin, and for the 1st time ever, the Keg Burger. all the steaks' sides were garlic mashed potato and the burger's was caesar salad. for appys, we had the calamari! first off the sirloin oscar...sauce was creamy and good. shrimps were plump and cooked perfectly. the steak however was chewy and not tender despite having it at medium. the plated roasted peppers and beans were good. but the main dish fell short. next up...the teriyaki sirloin. the teriyaki sauce was simmered too long in the sirloin that it killed the teriyaki flavour coz it dried up already. and again, the steak fell short. even at medium rare, it was still chewy and tough.. the kids sirloin was a bit better. at medium, my son had no complains. it was tender enough for him. the server even forgot to ask what drink he wanted and what dessert. i had to remind the server about the drink and dessert for the kids menu. that was when she said ..."oh yeah, it does come with that!" "duh!" its written across the kids menu! what a dud! the garlic mashed was a flop too. potato was bland and not seasoned well. still lumpy and had no hint of garlic at all. rough texture instead of a creamy one. not enough milk and butter as well as salt and pepper. i can make it better at home...for sure. the keg burger was the better meat of the night! smoky and juicy, it made my dinner a treat. the bun was not dry. it was soft and moist and heated up. the softness of the bun complimented the juicy angus very well. the caesar salad was fresh and mixed well. not drowned in too much dressing. the calamari appy was great. the squid was lightly battered and cooked just right. the sweet chili sauce and calamari sauce complimented the dish. the squid was tender and tasted fresh. lastly, the bread started was still good. freshly baked and served hot with whipped butter. crunchy crust but soft and melt in your mouth center. just like how it used to be. service was poor throughout the dining session. my water glass was always empty and i had to constantly call the server. ive never given 2 stars to the keg. this is the 1st time. i dnt knw if they were busy or had a new crew, but i left really disappointed! on my way out, i saw the 2 servers by the salad bar horsing around in front of the customers...totally unprofessional! honestly, i dont think i will be going to this location for anymore. i will try another location and see. hopefully others get a better experience than i did at this richmond location. cheers! happy eating! read more

After serving us our bread...my girlfriend was needing some water. Too bad we couldn't track down our waitress for a solid 15 minutes (although we did eventually flag down a hostess seating another party). Food came out, everything was ok...except the prime rib was undercooked (severely undercooked, and would not cut through with a steak knife with how rare it was). When we were finally able to track down the waitress, she asked me to pass her the prime rib...not the plate...the prime rib only...like it was a bloody basketball. So I proceeded to take my two forks and scoop the 10oz prime rib onto a saucer plate. It came back shortly after, but the accompanying sides that were left on the table were cold at that point. Waitress was friendly...but her service was horrible. She continuously asked the table behind us how their meal was going through the night, but funny enough never even bothered to ask us anything. Would recommend to travel out to the downtown Keg's for the pricepoint you're paying at. Don't spend 100+ here (plus their mandatory minimum 15% tip) if you can help it. ‍ read more
