This place is amazing-so flavorful and you definitely get your money's worth. I see folks complain about the wait time in person and on the phone. Oh man... this place is awesome! There's a few quirks, but once you get past them, you'll enjoy it! I have a lot of friends that don't come here because the food is not "authentic" enough for them. That's just not what this place is. Yeah, it's Mexican style food, but it has a different spin on it. I wouldn't call this authentic Mexican food, I would call this authentic Arcatan food. My only complaint is that it sometimes takes a while. But that's usually fine by me since I live just down the block. First time eating here.... love all the vegan vegetarian options since it's hard to find a place that serves vegan, my burrito was huge which was nice for the low price, really flavorful meat. I got the carna Asada. I heard the tofu is also very well, it's deep fried? A lot of options, black beans, pinto, a variety of sauces and salsa.... My problem, I'm allergic to Cilantro, the cashier was so focused on my my none vegetarian friend ordering a tofu burrito he completely ignored my cilantro allergy we discussed on several occasions since it's in Guacamole, the seasoning of my meat, so on. And reassured us it was cilantro free. A couple bits in and bam. Cilantro. Needless to say now I'm "sick" and won't be going back. *Edit* day two and I still living in my bathroom. I'm super disappointed with the service here recently. I used to love coming here because they have a great vegan menu and gluten free tortillas for burritos, which is rare to find (I have a lot of dietary restrictions), but the past 5 times I've gone, they have gotten my order wrong and this last time, the lady was reading back my order and I even double checked that she made my burrito gluten free, but when I got home I was very disappointed to find that it was wrapped in a flour tortilla (thank god I double checked because I would've been sick for multiple days otherwise) and they were closed so my dinner that I was super excited for is ruined. I always tip super well so even though they're going to refund me, they received an undeserved tip. read more

The food here is good, and the prices are decent. BUT it's never a good idea to stop by during busy hours unless you're okay with being somewhere you aren't wanted. I've walked in once and had the staff lament my presence...verbally...like complaining that I had walked in to do business with them right in front of me. Just a little offputting, and they followed it up by telling me my scratched debit card was declined for lack of funds. I told them I had a new one in the mail and they just have to type the number in. The staff insisted they were right until I was forced to use another card. Needless to say I checked my account and there was plenty in there. It also takes 30 minutes or more to get a single burrito if you're not their only customer at the time. Almost gave a one star, until I learned that it's under new management. Maybe I'll be back. This place used to be where I ate every day, and night, until I took a date there one time, a very attractive colored woman, and was short changed from a large bill, and only received the metal change, and was told I would get my change here in a few when he could get me some more change. After eating our awesome fish burritos I went to get my change, so we could go and leave a nice tip, the same guy says " I already gave you the change". Big ordeal, and knew that I had been taken, for the money, and I came back that evening just in case someone did make a mistake and would know after counting the till when shift change happens, and same guy claims the till was right on. I hope the company learns who, and who not to hire. Yes, this is not classic Mexican food, but it's good! It's Humboldt, it has the Northern California vibe and take on classics. Food came out fast, filling and tasty. I was a bit skeptical about this restaurant but I decided to give it a try. I ordered a super meat burrito and waited 15 min to get it. I get home and start eating it and they put black bean instead of pinto beans. Also making the super burrito full with rice and only a few pieces of meat, while also adding that the whole burrito had no flavor. Not worth the price and wait time. Feel like I'm back in college again :) Loud, in-your-face decor with obnoxious signs. Hubby got the supersized nacho burrito - a good size for a hungry football player - this one doesn't make good leftovers because the chips get mushy - but it's pretty good fresh. I got the fish tacos - wow - this would put the fish tacos in some of those crusty $$$ restaurants to shame! Large pieces of fish sauteed in lime juice and their special sauce and loaded with yummy fresh veggies - you've got to try this one! My son ordered the Super Nachos off the kid's menu - pretty average, but ridiculously large size. Caveat: So the guy preparing the food had a glove on one hand, but not on the other but touched the food with both. He washed his hands sometimes, but not on other occasions - once after touching raw meat. My reason for the low stars is that the pricing is inconsistent - it honestly seems like they charge based on how they're feeling at the moment. I typically order the same thing and I don't know that the total has ever been the same amount. The time that stands out the most in my mind, I was there a few months ago and ordered a kid-sized burrito with guacamole and a bottled Coke, and the total was around $10. I questioned it, because according to my quick calculations based on the menu prices, that was a few dollars more than it should have been.The person brushed me off, saying it was tax. I stopped here with three high school students I had driven up to visit HSU. One student was very used to authentic Mexican food, and didn't think this was great. The rest of us were pretty happy, though. I got the Super Burrito with sour cream, and it was very good. It could have used more flavor, but maybe I should have gotten the hot salsa instead of the medium. I give it a 4 because it was pretty tasty, very cheap, and very quick. Decent bang for your buck, but the style is a bit removed from traditional taquerias. This place caters more to the college crowd, and is likely a real haven for HSU undergrads. The options are more, to borrow slightly from another review, hippie-friendly. What lacks in quality is made up for in quantity and options. There's a bevy of different ingredients available for you to customize your burrito, and the largest size is truly pretty intimidating. A person of average weight and appetite would likely have to be pretty buzzed and/or stoned to finish the extra-large size in one sitting, and they will likely be burping up pieces of it well into the wee hours of the morning. The meats are ok. I prefer chicken, but unfortunately they only have shredded chicken and not the grilled kind. The salsas aren't all that notable, though for those of you who want to challenge yourself, the Death Paste is pretty hot. Unfortunately, heat is all it's got, and it doesn't add much in the way of flavor to the food. There's a lot of stuff on the menu that I haven't tried, and I'm sure there's something else I might like. It's not really a regular stop of mine though, and that probably won't change any time soon. Second time we've gone to Hey Juan's and both times have been awesome experiences. Went in today and there was one lady behind the counter/prep area who took our order, giving us tips and recommendations along the way, and one other guy who we found out was training. Multiple customers and TOGO orders came in at once so it took a few minutes longer than expected, but what can you do? We got part of our meal before the rest, so we know it didn't just sit there getting cold (big plus for us). We got the rest of our meal and somehow along the line my order got mixed up. I went up and told them right away and they were more than happy to fix it, apologizing profusely, hooking it up for me the second time around. Really an awesome place with great atmosphere, and tons to read/look at on the walls! 10/10 recommend. read more
