Few places do beef better than Nebraska so HF Crave burgers made with local meat are a treat! Go for their loaded patties and don't skip on the waffle fries. The dipping sauces are nothing to write home about but it's a great burger and has consistent local beer selections. read more

During my twice-daily unicycle rides down Holdredge Street, my mind would wander off into many different directions. Would birds enjoy David Mamet plays? Why don't we put on shirts legs first? Why don't wax museums double as shopping malls? Since they're basically mannequins anyway, just have them model clothes. You know, usual stuff. But whenever I would come to the location where Holdredge bisects 48th Street, an intersection if you will, the synapses of my brain would run haywire at the possibilities as to what businesses would be occupying the empty dining vessels. Then one day, barely a week into 2019 AD, a sign; not what some may consider a coincidence or a message from beyond, but an actual sign. A burger restaurant, HF Crave specifically. Crave doesn't have booths, so a table would have to do. Unfortunately, we were escorted to an uncleaned table. Few things will temper one's appetite as to watching the masticated remnants of the previous customer being swept onto the floor beside you. As for the staff, they don't have any sort of uniform or identifying marks to differentiate them from everyone else. It appears anyone could role-play waiter for the evening. I preparing to walk up to a random table and tell them the nightly specials, but a bearded fellow (quite the doppelgänger to Norville Rogers, in fact) approached our table and asked to take our drink order. After several moments where I insisted he take a blood oath to prove he was indeed an employee of Crave, my dining partner and I ordered water and sent him on his way. The menu, dear reader, is small. One would assume that's due to HF Crave being freshly open, and not from the latest millennial trend toward minimalism. There are no appetizers, no milkshakes and no desserts, an offense tantamount to high treason at any hamburger restaurant. The menu boasts a variety of burgers from Crave's namesake farm, with some standout names being the HF Han Seoulo (a Korean-inspired burger) and the HF Kicking Piggy with bacon, ham and bratwurst. At my request, our hirsute hosted suggested the HF PB&B which includes bacon, caramelized onions and peanut butter. I'm quite the peanut butter connoisseur, with kitchen cabinets littered with opened nut butter jars of varying brands, tastes and consistencies. My dining partner ordered the HF Crave Salad with lettuce, bacon, tomato, green onion, blue cheese and chicken. We split an order of sweet potato fries. Norville suggested I get a side of chipotle sauce for the burger too, which I did so as not to anger him any further. One peculiar anecdote, I was not asked to what degree of doneness, I'd like my burger to be. Would the chef decide to deliver me a patty that was barely touched by the heat of the flame, or one looking identical to a hockey puck? Upon delivery of the food, Crave's recent re-opening was once again apparent. The salad was served in a plastic bowl (sorry, am I at McDonald's?), with plastic containers (think what you'd get when you get food to-go) for the sauces. There was also no silverware. Upon notifying Norville, he scampered away returning with a metal fork and plastic knife. So this begs the question. HF Crave is not a new restaurant. They have recently moved from their location just several miles away in South Lincoln. Did the plates and utensils not make it aboard the moving truck? Did a disgruntled employee abscond with the stainless steel ramekins? The question still haunts me. Back to the food, and I was sawing through my burger with a plastic knife, what I expected to be like cutting down a redwood with a hacksaw was no trouble at all. I've had more trouble slicing through a cold stick of butter. And that's a problem. If you're dealing with a substantial burger, it shouldn't be easy to split it with a flimsy knife. All this would be forgivable if the taste were otherworldly. Alas, it is not. The meat was severely lacking in flavor. When dipping into the chipotle sauce (which was good, but no better than what one would find at Sonic) and the ketchup (not house ketchup; simply from the bottle) that was all that could be tasted. And the peanut butter? For shame. If a burger is supposed to have peanut butter on it, slather it on until I can no longer say Aaron Burr plainly into the telephone. And the bun? It was too soft, thin and untoasted, comparable to what would be served at a cookout. Juiciness in the burger was non-existent. The my dining partner's salad was unexceptional, and the chicken was dry. The fries were fine, but I also wouldn't be surprised if they came from a bag. The whole time the waiter never returned to check on our food, refill our water or give me a backrub. When he did returned with the bill, several special items that were included in the salad was not charged. I figure this was due to guilt, but probably, more likely, forgetfulness. First time here and am not totally impressed. While they do you high quality beef, cooking it into oblivion does it no justice. I asked for medium to medium week and received overly well. I ordered the Han Seoulo with Korean influences. While not a flavor bomb by any means it wasn't bad. The picketed veggies were nice as was the Kim Chi. A little slickness but that's about it. The hub was very good though. The waffle fries are a different story. Probably the best I've had in a long time. Not too thick and fried to perfection. I don't like sending food back so I ate the burger. Probably won't return though if they can't cook such nice quality beef correctly. read more

The burger was okay. They barely gave me fries. The fries were little bits of scraps. I got the garlic sauce and it was good (the only thing that was good). Recently remodeled to a more southwestern motif which frankly doesn't do anything for me but I really don't care. The burgers here are so flavorful and good that they could paint it Pepto-Bismol bottle pink and we'd still go. We don't do a lot of burgers anymore but when we're in the mood HF Crave is always where we end up. It really seems clear that the ingredients are higher-than average quality and we're trying to take better care of ourselves so that's also a factor. read more

I love gourmet burgers, and I really wanted to like this place. We ordered three burgers, two of the whiskey bacon burgers and a pb&b burger, along with the side sampler.The burgers were okay, but we all thought they were kind of disappointing. My husband remarked that they seemed more processed than other burgers joints in town. I wasn't terribly impressed with the flavor. My burger was over-cooked to well even though I specifically requested medium. The sides were nothing to write home about. I really wanted to like the cheese curds, but I found the sweet batter a bit off-putting, and all of the sides and burgers seemed to lack proper seasoning. HF Crave is a very nice addition to the Lincoln restaurant scene. I am a huge fan of Blanc Burgers in KC (and now in Omaha), and so I was excited to hear someone was doing something similar. This place is a gourmet burger place and uses mostly locally sourced meat, bread, veggies and cheeses. When someone starts a business like this I get very excited. It's wonderful to be able to go out to eat and have meat with produce coming from local farmers. With that comes higher prices, and I'm happy to pay them. You cannot expect a place that is serving local food products to have the same prices as a chain restaurant down the street. HF Crave did not disappoint me here. They have fresh, local ingredients, creative burgers and sides and very friendly service. I went with a big group of friends for a birthday. We all ordered burgers and split a trio appetizer. I ordered a burger with peanut butter on it, and oh my-this was good. The quality of beef was fantastic. I've purchased Hollenbeck beef before from a couple of the farmer's markets in town and it is some delicious stuff. The farm is outside of Elmwood, NE and everything is natural and grass fed. This delicious burger patty was perfectly cooked, the peanut butter was a fun touch, and the Le Quartier bun it sat in was also wonderful. The appetizer trio we had was also great. Sweet potato fries, waffle fries, and cheese curds. The cheese curds were very delicious, and Blanc in Omaha has the same on their menu. I have to say, I think I liked them a touch better here. They are made with Jisa's cheese (also Nebraska product) and dipped in a Lucky Bucket Beer batter (a brewery in Omaha). The fries were fantastic as well, and the trio came with 3 delicious, house made dipping sauces. Give HF Crave a try. It is a gourmet burger place, and therefore a bit more expensive. I took my fiance here for lunch last week after reading several reviews and hearing from a few friends to not miss this place. We generally aren't big burger eaters, my fiance grew up on a farm eating the best beef - so if we're not in her hometown, we generally stray towards other offerings. But, after we heard of they stay true to their local offerings, we decided to give it a go. I ordered the stuffed pepper jack burger (per the cashiers recommendation) and my fiance ordered a regular pepper jack cheese burger. We also ordered a side of sweet potato fries with creamy garlic dipping sauce. It took about 10-15 minutes for the burgers to get to the table. Presentation was great, the burgers looked thick and juicy, the fries didn't look overly greasy, and the condiments looked fresh and crisp. My burger was bursting with flavor and heat. The burger patty is actually stuffed with a jalapeno cream cheese that was messy, but totally worth it - the flavor was awesome. The sweet potato fries were excellent as well, and the dipping sauce was a perfect complement. My fiance's burger, however, didn't quite hit the taste buds the same way mine did - and we both agreed on that. The beef was great, but her burger lacked flavor that I've had on other burgers. Don't get it wrong, it was good, but we've had better. With that being said, I suggest opting for the flavor packed stuffed burgers or peanut butter burger (that I haven't tried, but I've heard it's killer). The staff was bright and cheery, very welcoming and helpful in answering our questions and fulfilling our requests for recommendations. The place was clean and sharp. The price ($20 for 2 burgers, 1 side, and 2 waters) was something I'm not too used to when I'm ordering burgers. It's tough for me to say that I got my $20 worth, the burgers aren't impressively massive or anything. I understand that you have to pay to keep it local and fresh, and maybe I'm a tightwad, but I felt like it was a little pricey. Overall, it was good. I almost never give a five-star rating, but Crave gets my vote without hesitation. I had the plain, no-frills Crave burger -- just a perfectly moist, juicy patty that had that wonderful grass-fed beef flavor, served up on a brioche bun from a local bakery. The lettuce was crisp, the tomato flavorful and juicy, the onions crisp but not too intense. Straight up: I loved it. I also had the sweet potato fries and they rocked as well. Crave gets its meat straight from a local farm, and that's a massive plus in my book. It really can't be compared to Five Guys or that kind of place, in terms of price, because they're not using the same quality ingredients. Crave isn't a fast food place. It's a burger joint that specializes in locally-sourced, naturally-raised ingredients. Yes, you order from a counter, but that's the only similarity. I didn't find it pricy at all: burgers for two and a shared order of sweet potato fries (plenty for two average-sized women) set us back only $15.00, tax included. That's as cheap as Super Taco, and a whole lot healthier! Where else in town can you get free-range, locally raised meat, locally sourced veggies, and locally baked buns for an affordable price? Flavor, quality, execution, reasonable pricing... Crave is the only place I'll get a burger in Lincoln, from now on. read more

The burgers had great beef flavor but were not 1/2 lb. The garlic dipping sauce was very good. I did not see or taste any brisket on mine. Son said cowboy was just ok. All in all, it's OK. I really wanted to go to Honest Abe's, but my fiancé wanted to give this place a shot. I ordered the brisket burger, I was a little disappointed there was no bacon or brisket on it, I asked the server and she said it's mixed in the cream cheese... well the cream cheese spread didn't have anything in it, no jalapeños either. It was spicier than I thought it would be but I should have paid closer attention to the ingredients. It has mango habanero chutney on it and I think that's why I didn't care for it much. The guy in charge came by to see how everything was, which I appreciate. I told him I didn't really like it and he was very willing to get me something else. It obviously isn't his fault I chose something my taste buds didn't like, so I told him not to worry about it. This place is a gourmet burger joint that is essentially ripping off Blanc in Kansas City and Omaha and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I am delighted that we have our own version here in town. Everything here is as locally sourced as possible. The food is delicious. You get a huge burger that is more than enough food. We made the mistake of ordering 2 of the trio appetizers to split amongst 8 people and ended up with way more food than we could possibly eat. The service was very friendly and quick. We went with a big group and they somehow lost my friends order. They were super apologetic, got the food to him quickly and gave him a free beverage. This is a great fast casual place for a premium burger! The story goes that the food is both farm fresh and all natural. Not only are the ingredients quality, they are good most importantly. They have many variations stacked up to meet just about any taste and even a hotdog basket for the kiddos at a great price. They also have great fries, sweet potatoe fries, and various other sides. I really enjoyed the spicy garlic and jalapeno ranch dipping sauces that come with the fries. The burgers are big which is make fresh taste even better. After learning about the story I though the premium burgers would cost a small fortune but they only charge about $10.50 for their signature burgers loaded with all sorts of goodies so big you may have trouble wrapping your mouth around it. Overall, if you want greasy dripping goodness on a bun, stop in here for a great burger at a great price and fell slightly less guilty the mean is fresh and natural. read more

This is one of the best burger joints I have ever been to. $11.00 for a burger, fries, and medium drink. The atmosphere is clean, casual, with a rustic garage-type theme; not to mention, the music choice touches on the 60's, 70's, and 80's, generations everyone can relate to. The employees care about how your meal is and the presentation is amazing. You can really tell there is a lot of effort put in to every bite. Price is affordable for what you get and the size of the meal doesn't leave you sick or still hungry. They have it down here. Definitely recommend to all people. Good for both lunch and dinner. Went to Crave after reading the review on the paper. It was the best Burger in town as described in the paper. I had a single Burger (1/3 pound of beef) topped with a Sunny side up (yes, a fried egg!) And my son had a double Burger (whopping 2/3 pounds of beef) with cheese, bacon, mushroom and onion. We also had fried sweet potatoes (me) and waffle potato (son). Everything was delicious! We paid $26 for both and waited 10 minutes to get food, so it is not a quick and cheap meal you expect from a fast-food joint, but it's worth the money and wait. The Burger was better than many family restaurants. I would definitely go back there again. read more

I stopped into crave with a hangover last sunday, usually food tastes better when I've had a long night of drinking so take that into account whilst reading my review. I didn't go to HF Crave on purpose, that is, I didn't leave my place with the intention of going to Crave, I left with the intention of going to Chipotle (see: hungover), however, I noticed the store front and thought it looked cool so I gave it a shot. Upon walking into this establishment one is immediately hit with the smell of cooking burgers, throw that in with the contemporary decor and it is certainly a "new" experience for the senses. They have menus located on the side of the ordering line to speed things up, there wasn't a line when I went in, so I didn't bother. The cashier was very friendly, I took a moment to peruse the menu located above the registers and decided on the #1, a stuffed burger with pepperjack cheese and a jalapeno cream cheese. I also ordered the "cheese bites" as something to try. The gal at the register told me that it would be about 12 minutes before my food was ready so I got my drink and took a seat at one of the tables. Approximately 20 minutes later (this didn't bother me as I wasn't in a hurry) I got my food and began to eat, I took a large bite of the burger first and was pleasantly surprised, it was maybe a tad bit overcooked, (they say their burgers are cooked to medium-well) this was real close to well done but I'm sure it's difficult to cook a stuffed burger to medium well without a few mishaps. All in all the burger was satisfactory, the jalapeno cream cheese they use and the brioche bun rounded out a very good burger. The Cheese Bites.....the cheese bites at HF Crave are unlike anything I've ever had, a guilty pleasure for sure, these things melt in your mouth and give you a profound sense of shame for eating such a thing (I mean that in a good way), the cheese bites over shadowed the burger by leaps and bounds...I immediately left after my meal and went to confession, that's how good the cheese bites are...seriously, try the cheese bites. I feel it's now time to mention the cheese bites. Just kidding, try Crave, well worth a visit just to see what's going on and enjoy the atmosphere. Next time I go in i'm gonna give the peanut butter and bacon burger a shot. Oh, and try the cheese bites. read more

Locally sourced ingredients. We have had Hollenbeck Farms burgers at local events and see them regularly at the downtown farmers' market. Fabulous flavor. Flavor was best in the burgers and fries. My husband and I each had a cheeseburger, with toppings of our choice. We went crazy and had the trio of sides: waffle fries, sweet potato fries and fried Jisa (local) white cheddar cheese. Appetizer trio came with three dipping sauces of our choice(garlic was my favorite). More than enough food. Enough that we took an entire carryout container home with us! Also, sustainable packaging. And a meat case right in the restaurant! I think that this may be my new favorite restaurant in Lincoln. read more

Its a burger place. What I like: Fresh Nebraska ingredients wherever possible, including the meat. Nothing frozen or pre-made here so that's an advantage. Mostly basic burgers and classic burgers here, but they have a few signature burgers and stuffed burgers which give them a little bit of flare. This is probably the 3rd or 4th best burger place in Lincoln, behind Honest Abes, Leadbelly, and perhaps tied with C Berrys smoked burgers or Nitro Burger. Most of this is in the eye of the beholder but I prefer a burger place that goes a little off the wall with their choices. On another plus, the cheese curds here are excellent, and make a nice side choice. I'm not much of a fries person, but the sweet potato fries were also pretty good. Nothing spectacular, but good. They have a few salad options too for anyone trying to limit calories. What I don't Like: Small place so if its full you have to wait a bit to get a table. They are not the quickest place so not great if your in a hurry. read more

Went here for a late lunch and I was impressed. We hadn't seen these guys at the Old Cheney farmers' market lately, and I guess this is why. My burger was hot, juicy, and perfectly cooked. No complaints about the patty or the toppings, but the bun was stale. Knowing it was from just next door made me all the more upset about this. What a way to save a buck. Other than that, most of the waffle fries I had were also perfect - hot and crispy. A few were mixed in from an old batch, though, I think - cold and soggy. Again, the chef needed to bite the bullet and throw away the old product. I am willing to forgive this based on the creamy garlic dipping sauce, which was phenomenal. Definitely homemade. This is my favorite burger in Lincoln. Every time I have been there, the staff has been nice and accommodating - they also cook my burger medium when I ask. The burgers are always juicy, especially the stuffed ones. The brioche buns are buttered and put on the griddle, so they are nice and butter-yummy, an their mushrooms are fantastic. My favorite side would be the cheese bites. They taste like magical cheesy donuts or something, and I love them! The place is decorated fast-casual, so it is not super comfortable, but that is okay - I get the point of the aesthetic. Hands down, this is where my boyfriend and I would take people visiting, and now that I have moved away from Lincoln, I hope it stays so I can eat there when I go back. read more
