This venue has turned from a delicious Japanese Omurice to a jazz bar at night. It's a lot more crowded with all the high tops. Food is still excellent and I very much enjoyed the rice tomato. They are expanding hours for the night for alcohol. More money perhaps?

It's a cute little spot and they have live jazz on Mon, Tues, and Sun. Service was kind of slow, but we did come during an off hour at like 3pm. We got the mentaiko pasta, which was solid, and the slightly grilled romaine salad. The salad had way too much dressing, making all of the lettuce soggy and kind of hard to eat. I'd come back to check out their dinner menu and for the live jazz.

I thought the food here was really solid. I really enjoyed the omurice and Brussels sprouts, and the katsu was good as well. The ambiance inside is very nice, comfortable, and authentically Japanese, and the service is good.

AMAZING!! I went on a whim off of google maps and I was so impressed. They had live jazz and I hear they're planning to continue that for the time being. The atmosphere was of course so cozy and welcoming, and the service definitely matched that. The food.. just wow. The omurice texture was PERFECT and the flavors were so well balanced. Great portion too.

This place is crazy busy and popular, with lots of seating. It feels a bit hectic inside but I didn't feel rushed for brunch. Their tamago sandwich is good and a fair price for the area. Their potatoes were nice and crispy too. They're also known for their teas and coffee, but I wasn't particularly impressed. I thought the tea was expensive, especially for the portion. I'm sure it's because it's high quality, but it didn't taste any better than other tea places I've been to that are a bit more affordable.

This place is lovely! We stopped by for a Sunday brunch and we were seated promptly even without a reservation. I can't say this is always the case though - would consider making a reservation next time! The hostess was so kind to offer putting our coffee drinks in the fridge, as outside food and drinks were not allowed. Upon entering, I noticed the warm ambience and inviting decor, including the water structure at the center of the restaurant. We ordered the omurice, which was my favorite. It was a fluffy egg on top of tomato flavored chicken rice. We also tried the tamagotchi sandwich and gachi hiyashi rice, both of which were flavorful and divine. Overall, I enjoyed this experience and will be back.

Firstly, I love the ambiance of this place, it's very cozy! My first visit was back in December 2023 and it was not as busy then as it is nowadays. I went with a friend for brunch and we ordered the napolitan spaghetti, omurice, fruit sandwich. The food was pretty good! In my opinion, it doesn't quite suit the atmosphere and vibes that the restaurant interior has but the food is fun and tasty. The service could be better, servers were not very attentive, and food took a while to come. I've never been here for the jazz nights but I definitely want to come check it out and try out their dinner menu!

A cozy little spot in the heart of east village. Serves Japanese comfort meals as well as some yummy omurice and even sweet pancakes. I got the omurice which was flavorful with every bite and service was so sweet and accommodating. Definitely check this spot out hanging with friends or for a nice chill date.

We were there for their drinks as a pitstop to our dinner in the east village. There are some fun drinks and the drinks are pretty good. We also got some small bites, and those were not bad as well. It was pretty expensive for what it was, but it is also in the east village I guess. It's a pretty small space and we have been turned around a couple of times when trying to go later in the night. I didn't find anything to be super impressionable or memorable. Wouldn't really go back unless someone else wanted to.

I remember Hi-Collar when they were just a tiny restaurant with a few seats at the bar and having to wait in line to get a seat. It was so nice seeing how the restaurant had flourished and grown since. I ordered the katsu sandwich which also had egg salad in it. It was truly delightful. My friend enjoyed her hayashi omurice!

Been here a handful of times and have tried a decent amount of items on the menu. Most recently, we went for lunch and asked for two omurices and a hot pancake for dessert after our meal. All the dishes landed on the table at the same time. Great, cold pancakes for dessert.. Also, both omurice dishes came out oddly fast and it was tepid and unappetizing. Almost seemed like it was pre-made considering the speed at which it came out. The egg was almost cold and both of us felt unwell after our meal. Had many great experiences in the past but my most recent experience was a bit subpar.

****STAFF ADDED ADDITIONAL $100 TIP ON TO MY BILL**** I visited on September 21st for my friends birthday! It was just the two of us and we got a great view near the band. We ordered the seafood platter, salad, and one other item. To note, we also ordered the stew style dish but it never came by the time they closed. However, that was no problem we weren't charged for the dish we didn't receive. My reason for the low stars is due to the additional tip added by the staff after I signed the receipt and left. I added photos of the merchant receipt I left in addition to what I see recorded in their electronic system. I have opened a dispute with my credit card company and am extremely disappointed.

Feels like stepping into Japan with comforting food and attentive service. Ambience (4/5): Cozy and authentic, feels just like being in Japan. Food (4/5): The omurice was rich and flavorful, while the pasta was solid but more average. Value (4/5): Portions were fair and pricing matched the quality. Service (5/5): Staff worked hard to seat me on a busy Saturday and kept me updated throughout.

Not surprising, then, that it was pretty packed by the time we finished dinner, at 10:30ish. Serptentine has a solid cocktail list, one that definitely reflects the West Village sensibility. The drinks are all clear variations of classics (ie., martini, negroni, espresso martini, margarita, old fashioned, etc.) but with some added intrigue. All well-executed and made efficiently, which is very impressive during weekend primetime. If you're not nearby I wouldn't make a trip to the area just for Serpentine, but it's a fantastic option if you live/work in the neighborhood and/or are getting a meal in the area and are looking for a bar to start or end at. As I mentioned, it was relatively busy when we arrived here. There weren't any open seats initially but the host said we could hang around the bar for a bit, as he expected a table to open soon. It was probably 10 minutes before we were sat which is basically like being sat immediately in New York time. And generally, the staff here were great -- very personable and accommodating, quick service, only praise in that area. The vibes here are cozy but lively, giving more of a friend hangout than a date (it's also relatively loud so not ideal for conversation if you're sitting across from someone at a table, versus standing and mingling or sitting on bar stools). If you're a dirty martini person you are in luck here, because the Serpentini (grey goose vodka, dry vermouth, olive brine, pepperocini liqueur) is unlike any other. And I get dirty martinis pretty much everywhere I go, so that's saying something. Why is it so unique, you may ask? Well, the pepperocini liqueur is a nice touch and props to whoever decided it was necessary to make such a thing. But the real game changer is the sidecar. You may be thinking -- how is a sidecar unique? Well, it's not just any sidecar...it is not filled with more martini but simply PURE FILTHY BRINE. I mean, if you're ordering a dirty martini, you probably would take a bath in olive brine, brush your teeth with olive brine -- hell, maybe even your contact solution is just olive brine. Want to make your martini dirtier as you drink it? Serpentine has you covered. It is so simple and obvious yet I've never experienced it before. And, because I've never met someone who loves dirty martinis who doesn't also drool over blue cheese-stuff olives, the Serpentini's got that too. Though less exciting and groundbreaking, Mezcal Negroni (ilegal mezcal, campari, averna amaro, lo-fi gentian amaro) is also solid. I love a mezcal negroni and this one is relatively straightforward, just a subtle variation with a few different amaros to add some complexity and herbal notes. A fun and versatile neighborhood spot. It's in prime location so I imagine to rent is absurd, so fingers crossed that it sticks around!
