Wife had the Carne Guisada, I had the Migas. Both were delicious and we agreed they came with the best tortillas we've ever had.

Chacho's was the only rival Hi-ho had in town, in my opinion. But, Chacho's shut down. I was staying on the other side of town and hadn't been here for awhile. Was going to Jalisco and Acapulco, Linda's and Tapatia. When I finally came back here, it was soooo much better than the others, I could barely contain myself. Ha. The chorizo, potato, and egg a la Mexicana is just so perfect. So many of the other places use fried potatoes, or they don't add enough chorizo to flavor the egg AND potato, so the whole thing comes out dry with diminished flavor. Also, Hi-ho used to have terrible salsa. It was like ketchup. They switched over to a good, solid green and it's so much better. The carne Guisada is amazing, too. Some places in town make it too red, if u know what I mean. Just wish it had a drive-thru and was open later. I'd be there everyday. lol. read more

If there ever were an institution that represents Corpus, it is Hi-Ho. What many don't know is that I have lived here previously (09' - 12') before relocating to the "big city". The first time I was here, everyone told me this was "the place" to go if you wanted to experience classic Corpus culture at its finest. Unfortunately, during that time around, I only came here once with a large group of work friends. Fast forward and I have now been living here again for going on six (6) years; fully assimilated to Corpus' vibrant "South Texas" culture. And with that, I can unequivocally say that the recommendations previously given to me with reason were well-grounded. Hi-Ho is one of those places you must visit to understand. I would not call it a taqueria (although one could argue it fits that bill); rather, I would call it "South Tex-Mex". If you lived here and noticed the blend between Tex-Mex and taqueria fare, that would make perfect sense. The food is good and reasonably priced. The service is great, IMO. But what really makes this place special is its atmosphere - let me elaborate. As you come in for weekend breakfast/brunch/lunch, you'll immediately notice it is packed with locals. And not just from the neighborhood, but from all over the city. It's full of mostly South Texas multi-generational families taking pride in patronage of their city's best kept (not so) secret. There is an air of community that is not that hard to "feel" when you are here. Also, its design and layout are comforting. Certainly not much has changed here for a very long time. Take special note of the lacquered table art and murals, and you'll see where they have memorialized decades of South Texas heritage. It is quite special. Lastly, I'll add that parking can be a bit tricky when they are busy. I do not say this as a deterrent; rather, as a precaution. There is plenty of parking on the street around the place if the parking lot happens to be full. If you are visiting here and want to experience something uniquely representative of the city, I highly recommend going out of your way to experience Hi-Ho. If you live here and want a refresher of what Corpus culture is grounded in, I also highly recommend giving this place a shot. read more

Delicious, down to earth, dining every single time! This is our fifth visit and we have loved it each time. It's an absolute down home delicious kind of place and a truly memorable experience if you're a Selena fan. The quick backstory to the Selena/Hi Ho connection is that Selena and her family often visited this restaurant during her lifetime. Her father is still seen often dining here and known to stop and take photos with fans. Posters and pictures of the beloved local adorn almost every inch of the walls. You can't help but feel the love for Selena and her family here. And once you have a chance to eat, you realize why she loved this place. Everything is classically prepared and presented. Nothing fancy. Nothing random or misplaced. It's all Texas/Mexican and all delicious! I went with the Fajita Lunch Plate for $9. It came with Rice, Charro Beans, Mashed Potatoes, and a hearty portion of the most flavorful flame broiled Beef Fajitas I've had in a while. I gotta say, their fresh tortillas were also phenomenal. Our table destroyed these pretty quickly. My wife loved her Machacado Plate as well. Solid breakfast choice for $6 and added bacon for $2. Her plate was huge! Don't sleep on the breakfast potatoes. Might not be want you'd expect but so good. My favorite thing here though is the people! The servers, patrons, everyone. You're in the middle of Corpus here and you feel it. I dang near RAN here after leaving the Selena Museum. It has a very mom & pop atmosphere. It's a seat-yourself setup and the sodas come in bottles. I got the Mexican plate and it was absolutely delicious! Our server, Mayra was quick, efficient, and really nice! I'll definitely be back! read more

I've heard a lot of good things about this restaurant but the service was rude. I walked in, there was no greeting by any of the employees. It was my first time so I wasn't sure if they seat customer or if customers seat themselves. I asked for a menu and decided what I wanted only to stand at the counter looking at the man and women talking who had already made eye contact with me. I give it five stars because time after time it delivers on its mission - great, simple, homemade Mexican food in good quantity with really nice and helpful wait staff. One thing I particularly enjoy is not food related. When you come in you'll see grubby construction workers sitting next to lawyers in $10,000 suits. Everyone is equal...and all there for great food in a casual environment. I moved away from Corpus several years ago, but today lunch was exactly what I expected and as great as always!!!! read more

We heard this was Selena's favorite place in CC, but I'm thinking things went downhill in the 26 years since her tragic death. CC is home to some of the best Mexican food we've ever eaten so the times we've driven by Hi-Ho and saw the parking lot consistently packed, we always had 'hi' hopes for great food! We arrived 11:40 on a Monday and it was already packed to where we got one of the last parking spots and tables. Service was good, but our waitress was overwhelmed because it seemed like she had the entire right side for herself to take care of. Unfortunate slow service due to food taking a long time to get out to us and the gentlemen cashier was extremely surly. Lots of better choices in CC, beginning with Yoli's, Jalisco on Staples, El Sol, Eddie's and even Linda's. My husbands cheese enchiladas tasted 10 times better than my dried jerky 'chicken fajitas' and even they weren't what anyone would define as 'great'. We used the salt shaker on everything, and it still didn't help. I will give props for the tortillas and the pinto beans weren't terrible. Over time, my opinion of Hi-Ho has dropped drastically. My boss likes to have them send over breakfast tacos fairly frequently and to be honest...they're terrible. Salty beyond belief and if there's meat in them, burnt or otherwise messed up with a funky flavor I can't pin down. NOT recommended at ALL. Just tried one of the bacon and egg tacos...can't finish it. Too much salt, the tortillas are awful and that funky flavor in the bacon... read more

If you are a Selena fan, you will notice the pictures of the late Tejano star surrounding the walls of the place. You can purchase DVDs of her last concert in Houston as well as others for $10 if that is of interest to you. The service wasn't the best. From the time that we picked a table to sit at and got our order taken, it must have taken about 40 to 45 mins for us to get our food delivered to us. Bear in mind the place was crowded, however, I don't think it should have taken that long. I found the food to be average. I imagine that if you were to go to any other Mexican restaurant in the city for breakfast, the food would have been a lot better. If you are going there for Selena, you might enjoy it, however if you are going for the food, there are better options. read more

It can eaisly be missed when passing by so gps it. Overall the food was great. My complaint was the ranchero salsa for the Huevos Rancheros it was tomato sauce with a few pieces of onions sprinkled in. You can literally taste the can it came out of. The tortillas were nice hot and fresh. The beans were nice thick and refried. They also serve spam and egg. Also I ordered coffee and asked if they offer splenda she said no then returns to throw the sugar and cream on the table (literally).
